Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Recipe

1

The best hot cocoa recipe is much more than getting the right ingredients together. It’s not about being overly complex or adding a lot of different flavours to the mix. Making a perfect cup of hot chocolate requires patience and commitment to getting the recipe just right. You can’t be satisfied after a couple of tries. You work at it each time making it better (or worse) until you come to the point where nothing more can be done to improve it. My best example of this is my cinnamon hot chocolate recipe, which is much simpler than my other hot chocolate recipes, but it has the best balance of all.

Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Balances Everything

Balance is crucial. You want everything to mix just right. If you go far out on one ingredient, you need more of another to restore balance. You can achieve a balance of flavour by stripping down ingredients or by adding more. Going too high or too low results in a lack of balance, so even the most complicated hot chocolate can still taste like they are missing something. Balance is important across the board with not only the flavour of hot chocolate, but also the mouthfeel, the body, the depth, and the temperature. It’s with these key factors in mind that I created this hot chocolate recipe with cinnamon. I use just enough ingredients to create balance and promote the fullness of just the right flavours.

Best cup of Hot chocolate

This easy cinnamon hot chocolate recipe offers creaminess, warmth, sweetness, and a hint of spice that lacks nothing. In my opinion, it’s the best cup of hot chocolate. Part of the key is the ratio of chocolate chips to cocoa. This recipe for hot chocolate serves four, which is perfect for sharing or indulging during a cold night in, with a warm fire and a book (or Netflix).

Is Disney’s Memory Maker Worth It? Tips and Tricks to Get the Most Value

0

Disney’s Memory Maker is a paid package that gives you access to all professional photos taken by PhotoPass cast members that happen during your Disney trip.

What is Disney’s Memory Maker?

For those of you not in the know, Memory Maker is an awesome way to chronicle your Walt Disney World vacation. Memory Maker is kind of like the dining plan for photos, except there is a lot more value to it. Wherever you go in Disney World there are photo ops. They have PhotoPass cast members all over the parks, resorts, and even a PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs. Iconic backdrops, character meet and greets, and ride photos are all available through PhotoPass for a price. But, is Memory Maker worth it?

You can choose to buy the Disney World Memory Maker for 1 day or for the duration of your stay. Memory Maker includes photos and videos linked to your Memory Maker Disney account. You also have 45 days from the date your photos and videos are taken to download them. After, they will expire and can no longer be purchased or downloaded. You can also download your Disney PhotoPass photos and videos for up to 25 members of your family and friends who share media with you.

Disney’s memory maker cost

The cost for Disney’s Memory Maker is $69 for one day, $169 with advanced purchased for 30 days from the date of activation, and $199 for the 30 day Memory Maker package, but any photos taken within 3 days of purchasing Memory Maker are not included and must be purchased separately.

Is Disney's Memory Maker Worth It?

Disney Memory Maker Tips and Tricks to Get the Most Value

Here are some ways you can get more from Memory Maker.

1. Buy Memory Maker in Advance

Just like buying tickets at the gate, you pay a premium for waiting too long to purchase Memory Maker. You also miss out on photos if your purchase is too close to your visit, because it requires 3 days to take effect.

2. Take Photos Everywhere

There is no limit on photos you can take with the Memory Maker package. The only limit is the number of days, which is 30. The longer your vacation the more you can stretch your Memory Maker dollars, but no matter what, make sure you take all the PhotoPass photos you can.

3. Disney Ride Photos

Ride photos are included with Memory Maker. Seek out Disney attractions that take your picture or record video and ride them often. Under normal circumstances you would be charged for these photos and with Memory Maker, they are included in the price.

4. PhotoPass Studio

Disney Springs has a studio for PhotoPass that you should take advantage of if you have the Memory Maker package. The PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs offers an array of customized professional shots that you can take with your family. They also use green screen technology to create virtual backgrounds that include Star Wars, Disney Junior and popular Disney Animation and Pixar movies.

5. Disney Character Dining

When you have Disney’s Memory Maker, the best way to get more for your money is to seek out every photo opportunity you can get. That includes Character Dining, which can be a very fun experience, especially for little ones, that you will want to remember. Walt Disney World has a lot of character dining restaurants that include Mickey Mouse and his friends, as well as popular princesses. Check Disney resorts and theme parks for options, or consider resort hopping for a special dinner or breakfast.

The Bon Voyage breakfast at Trattoria Al Forno on the Boardwalk features a creative menu inspired by the characters you meet there: Rapunzel, Flynn, Ariel, and Eric. Artist Point offers Snow White inspired Storybook Dining at Wilderness Lodge. There you can meet Dopey, Snow White, and the Evil Queen.

The Value of Memory Maker

When you have to pay for each photo, you may be discouraged from some opportunities for great memories. When you think about how much you are likely to pay for souvenirs, Memory Maker at Disney World is an increasingly good value, because you end up with so many pictures to remind you of the great time you had. Plus you don’t have to take any of the pictures yourself!

20 Valentine’s Day Decor Ideas

3

When it comes to Valentine’s Day decor ideas, the options are pretty basic: hearts, flowers, candy, pink, red and white. The elegant mix of the colours is what really separates the tacky from the well done.

Ideas for valentine’s day decorations

Here are 20 Valentine’s Day decoration ideas to get you started!

1. Paper Hearts

Yes, the old construction paper hearts are always fair game. In case you are heart making impaired, as I tend to be, use an old cookie cutter as your pattern. Instead of construction paper, use the foam paper, to cut out a variety of hearts. Use a hole puncher to place a hole the top and tie a ribbon or string through the opening. You now have a collection of hearts, or whatever Valentine’s cookie cutters at your disposal, eager to hang from vases or ceilings or doorknobs.

2. Paper Chains

Valentine’s Day paper chains are always cool. Simply cut construction paper into long strips. Once you have an assortment of strips, start by making one circle by fastening the edges together either with glue or staples. The next piece gets looped through to form the chain, and so on and so on.

3. Valentine’s Pillow Case

Break out the paint and markers it is time to get messy! Have the kids decorate a sheet of paper however they want. Anything is fair game here! Once that paper is dry, it is time for Mom and Dad to step in. Make a scan of that paper and print it out on a t-shirt transfer. Take the transfer and iron it onto a pillow case. Once you have completed the manufacturers specifications of the transfer, the kids have their very own Valentine’s pillow case.

4. Valentines Box

Making a Valentine’s Day box craft is always a fun task. But what about making several different boxes to lay around the house? These little pink or red packages can be decorated from boxes of any shape and size, and the kids will have a ball getting to make a number of easy Valentine’s Day boxes instead of the usual one. Be sure to gather enough paper and ribbons to keep everyone busy, and to keep all the boxes different.

5. Valentine’s Sign

Purchase a foam display board, and the world can be yours. Take the time to decorate the board with photos, and even a small collage or two. Have the kids put their special touches on the board too. One of the best parts of this type of cheap Valentine’s decoration is it can be saved from year to year. As the collection grows so will the memories you have of making them, it can even transform into a tradition.

One year you might have a Valentine’s Day party, and another year you might not (thanks to COVID). But you don’t have to be throwing a party to serve heart or other theme goodies for the occasion. Whether you host a party, or you just want to make special treats for your kids, simply go to the produce aisle of your nearest grocery store to get some delicious strawberries!

Stuffed strawberries with chocolate mousse

Recipe for stuffed strawberries

Look for delicious strawberries and turn them into desserts that are filled with more desserts. What could be more yummy than that? Stuffed strawberries can be made in dozens of ways and each one is a decadent dessert. You can also add these stuffed strawberries with cream cheese to your charcuterie board for some sweet treats.

Ingredients

  • Strawberries
  • Strawberry stuffing such as: whip cream, ice cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese, mousse, pudding, gelatin, or yogurt
  • Toppings: Melted chocolate, graham cracker crumbs, coconut, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, or crushed peanuts

How to make stuffed strawberries

Stuffed strawberries are made the way that you want them. That is, there are many different things that you can use for the stuffing. But for now, find and prepare the largest strawberries that are available. Big strawberries allow you enough room for actually stuffing them. Cut the greenery off of each strawberry and then cut a small sliver off of the bottom. The piece removed from the bottom will allow it to stand on its own.

Take a sharp knife, cut a circle in the centre of the strawberry, and then remove the entire middle. You can also scoop out some of the inside with a small measuring spoon or melon baller to make room for the filling. Leave a piece of the strawberry at the bottom so that when you add the stuffing it won’t fall out.

Strawberry stuffing

Just about anything that goes well with strawberries can be used as the stuffing. One thing that is delicious as the strawberry stuffing is whip cream. Use the traditional type, chocolate whip cream, or another flavour. You can also create your own flavour by adding flavouring to whip cream. Rather than whip cream, ice cream is also yummy in a strawberry. You could fill the strawberries with yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and even gelatin.

Don’t limit the strawberry stuffing to things that are found in the dairy aisle at the grocery store. Melt chocolate chips and spoon them into the strawberries, or use white chocolate chips. Pudding is another option for creating decadent desserts by stuffing strawberries.

How To Get Your Teenager To Respect You

1

Just as there are all kinds of adults, there are all kinds of teenagers. Some are trustworthy and respectful to their peers and to adults, but some are not. Dealing with a disrespectful teenager can be difficult, especially for the parents or other guardians. But, with patience and time, handling a teen who shows lack of respect is possible with these tips.

How To Get Your Teenager To Respect You

Boundaries for teenagers

To many teens, boundaries and limits are bad. They want to be able to do what they want on their own time; however, not all boundaries should be bad. Overprotective parents can set boundaries that are just going to increase the teen’s sense of rebellion. In general, teens are not disrespectful because they are teenagers. They might feel like they are trapped by the boundaries set on them so they answer ill-manneredly. Instead of making the teenager feel increasingly trapped, the parents or guardians could instead give limitations that appear to give them more freedom. For example, instead of giving immediate answers to requests (such as going to parties), the parents could talk about the request with the teen. That way, the teen feels like he or she has some control in the situation.

Consequences for disrespectful teenager

A disrespectful teen is only slightly different from a rambunctious toddler, except that most teenagers should know the difference between right and wrong, respectful and disrespectful. Teenagers should know how to treat other people correctly, and that must include their parents or guardians. If you set consequences for the teen’s negative actions and follow through on those repercussions, then he or she will know that you are serious. If you give a consequence but you don’t enforce it, then the teen will continue to act out. Similarly, you must also follow through on the rewards that you set for good behaviour. This ties in to setting sensible boundaries, because loosening some of those limitations could be a doable reward.

Aggressive Teenager

Some situations require extreme consequences. If your teen is disrespectful to the point that he or she becomes physically violent (either to others or to him or herself), then the repercussion should match the deed. If the action does not require intervention from authorities, then you can set consequences yourself.

Communicate and teach communication

Teens who show lack of respect for everybody, especially for adults, should learn how to communicate their feelings so that they could handle them in other ways. Sometimes, being disrespectful is a result of another problem or conflict. It could just be a by-product, and the cause might be a deep emotional problem. So, take the time to talk with your teen. If he or she does not want to talk about his or her problems, then you might ask the teen to write them down or talk to a therapist. Keep in mind that not all disrespectful teens need therapy, but it could help for severe situations. Teach your teen the value of communication and the positive results they could reap from it.

How To Get Your Teenager To Respect You

The best way to get your teenager to respect you is to try to find out why the teenager has lack of respect in the first place. To whom does he or she show disrespect? Is it to everybody, or just to authority figures? Teen rebellion is common, but teenagers should also know what their boundaries are, and how they must deal with them.

What You Should Know Before Purchasing a Mattress for Your Kid

5

Did you suddenly notice that your child is getting too big for their crib? Are you looking for a mattress that can accommodate your kid and improve their sleep? We’re here to help with that. We made a list of what you should know before purchasing a mattress for your kid so that you can choose the best product for your child.

Girl sleeping on a mattress

Sleep deprivation can seriously affect your child’s mental development and put them at a higher risk for health problems. You can do a lot to alleviate your child’s sleep quality, and choosing the right mattress for them is the first step. The right mattress should be comfortable and provide proper spinal alignment, which leads to quality sleep and lesser aches upon awakening.

Factors to Consider Before Purchasing a Mattress

Choosing the right mattress is the first step in helping your kid get the best sleep they can. The following are all factors you should consider before making your choice:

Mattress Size

Size is the first thing you need to consider while looking at mattresses. After all, there is absolutely no reason for your child to have a king-sized mattress. Instead, you can opt for a crib mattress or a big kid mattress, depending on your child’s age.

If you opt for a big kid mattress, a twin mattress should be good for you. However, it would help if you considered your child’s height. If your child is on the taller side, an extra few inches can do wonders. Also, it would be best if you considered your child’s age and whether or not they have gone through a growth spurt. After all, you don’t want a mattress that your kid will grow out of in a single summer. You can read more about Canadian mattress sizes to find the best match.

Mattress Type

After you settle on the size of the mattress, you need to start thinking about the type of mattress you want to get. Getting an innerspring mattress will be a huge mistake if your kids are still very young. Kids are prone to jumping on beds, and you’ll have to replace the mattress if the springs break.

Getting a soft mattress won’t be any good either because they pose a suffocation risk for small children. It would be best to opt for mattresses that are a bit firm so that the body remains supported and perfectly aligned.

hand on a duvet

Sleeping Position

When getting a mattress for your kid, you also need to consider your child’s sleeping position. You can find just the right mattress to support them in doing so. Back and stomach sleepers should be good with a medium-firm mattress. On the other hand, side sleepers are better off with a softer mattress.

Allergies

You need to pay close attention to the mattress’s make, especially if your child has allergies. If your child has allergies, it is best to stick to mattresses made from organic materials. Additionally, you can opt for mattresses that are advertised as hypoallergenic. These mattresses are made from specialized materials resistant to common allergens like dust, mites, and more.

Temperature

For this bit, you need to consider the climate of where you live. If your place gets hot in the summer, you’ll want a mattress to dissipate body heat rather than store it. Some manufacturers even employ cooling technology in their mattresses.

On the other hand, if the area of your residence experiences frigid winter nights, you might want a mattress that can absorb body heat. In this case, a foam mattress will work wonders.

Durability

You are purchasing the mattress for a kid. Thus, expecting them to be nice to their mattress is madness. The poor mattress is sure to see some serious wear-and-tear. That is why you need a mattress that can take heavy usage and some spills. Getting a reversible mattress is a good idea in these cases. That way, even if one side gets too soft or uncomfortable, you can just flip the mattress. If you keep flipping the mattress periodically, you can slow down the wear and tear on the mattress.

What You Should Know Before Purchasing a Mattress for Your Kid

Childproof Design

We all know how good kids are at putting stuff in their mouths. If something can fit into their mouth, you can be sure they’ll try putting it in there. Considering that, you might want to get a childproof mattress. Your mattress should not have zippers or beads that can easily come loose and pose a choking hazard for kids. Instead, opt for mattresses that come with invisible zippers.

Warranty

Your mattress should come with a warranty. Not only can the warranties come in handy, but they are also an indication of the brand’s confidence in their product. Most mattresses come with a ten-year warranty, and some brands can take the figure up to 12 years. However, a few brands out there offer a lifetime warranty as well. Some brands also allow exchanges if you think the mattress is losing its firmness.

Mattress Maintenance

Getting a new mattress is an investment from your side, and you need a mattress that is easy to maintain and will last you some time. There are several things you can do to preserve your mattress.

  • You can get a dark-colored mattress, as this will help hide stains.
  • Opt for mattresses with removable covers.
  • Get a mattress protector. A waterproof protector can seriously enhance your mattress’s life. Make sure the cover is dark and machine washable.
hypoallergenic mattress cover

Conclusion

Once you’ve considered all of the above, you are all set to buy a mattress for your kid. Simply make sure to consider all the above-mentioned factors before you make a decision. If you plan to purchase the mattress in person, you can even try it out in the store. Better yet, make it a family activity and take your kid with you while buying the mattress. However, if you are looking for a way to get your child to sleep better, this great article will help you.

1

Valentine’s Day is the official love day. It is a perfect time to spread a little love and happiness to everyone, not just a significant other. Everyone wants to feel cared about. What better time to spread love around and make others feel good than on the officially designated love day. How can you spread love on Valentine’s Day?

rose and chocolates for Valentine's Day

How to surprise someone on valentine’s day

Maybe a coworker or a close friend is unattached and feeling slighted in the midst of others who might potentially be receiving flowers and candy. Send him/her flowers, or leave a heart-shaped box of candy on her/his desk with a note signed, “your secret admirer”. Send a gaily-decorated Valentine card through the mail to a neighbour who lives alone and sign it “Anonymous”. There are myriad ways to lighten another’s heart and brighten their life on Valentine’s Day.

Spread some love

Invite someone who has recently ended a relationship and is going to be spending the day alone to join you for dinner, a movie, or simply to chat. Make or buy or mini boxes of chocolates and pass them out to the people who provide a service; the mailman, hairdresser, carry out person at the supermarket, etc.. Spreading love that way will fill your own heart with loving feelings.

Spread Love On Valentine's Day

Words of love on valentine’s day

If someone has inspired you and made a difference in your life, write a note of appreciation on a Valentine card. Teachers, mentors, spiritual leaders, parents, and grandparents all fall into this category and are sometimes taken for granted. Use Valentine’s Day as the perfect opportunity to put into words the deeply felt gratitude not always expressed. You can also write love poems for Valentine’s Day!

Be crafty

Get in touch with your inner child and make lavish homemade valentines for everyone close to you. Stock up on lace trim, candy hearts, glitter and glue, and have you child help you and then take him/her out for a treat.

Give of yourself

Volunteer at a nursing home, soup kitchen, food bank, or some other venue where you can share loving feelings and make a difference. There are so many people in the world that have no one to lavish love on them on Valentine’s Day or any other time of the year. Make a commitment to extend the love beyond the day and sign up as an ongoing, regular volunteer.

Be verbal

Don’t hesitate to say the three powerful little words, I love you, to the people closest to you, and back up your words with loving behaviour. Valentines’ Day truly is the ideal time to wear your heart on your sleeve. And don’t forget to show self-love on Valentine’s day!

Spread Love On Valentine's Day

Love is contagious; while you are busy sending love on Valentine’s Day, you are apt to experience the pleasure of loving feelings welling up in your own heart too!

Good Carbs Versus Bad Carbs

2

What are good carbs vs bad carbs? Although carbohydrates play an important role in the diet, not all carbs act the same when it comes to blood sugar. According to the authors of Magic Foods, certain carbs wreak havoc on blood sugar, which then cause blood sugar levels to rapidly rise and fall.

Good Carbs Versus Bad Carbs

When this blood glucose roller coaster effect happens on an everyday basis, there can be serious health consequences such as:

  1. Increased risk of type 2 diabetes
  2. Memory loss
  3. Low energy
  4. Hunger
  5. Weight gain
  6. Fatigue
  7. Mood swings
  8. Increased risk of a heart attack
  9. Increased risk of certain types of cancer
  10. Insulin resistance
  11. Metabolic Syndrome
  12. Diabetes

Fast-Acting Carbs Vs. Slow-Acting Carbs

Fast-Acting Carbs

All carbs raise blood sugar, but some carbohydrate-containing foods raise blood sugar higher and faster than others since these types of carbs are easy for the body to convert into glucose rather quickly. These foods are known as fast-acting carbs. Fast-acting carbs cause the body to counteract this great rush of blood sugar by pumping out too much insulin, which then brings blood sugar levels back down rapidly. Often, this causes blood sugar to drop too low and headaches, fatigue, and hunger can occur.

Top 10 carbs to avoid

Examples of fast-acting carbs are:

  1. Potatoes
  2. Pretzels
  3. White rice
  4. Pasta
  5. White bread
  6. Cornflakes
  7. Soda
  8. Candy
  9. Instant oatmeal
  10. Sports beverages
What are Good Carbs Versus Bad Carbs

Slow-Acting Carbs

Are there any good carbs? Foods that contain slow carbs do not cause significant spike in blood sugar levels and are easier on the body. Slow-acting carbs take a lot more for the body to break down. So while blood sugar raises slightly, it doesn’t spike quickly.

Eating slow-acting carbs has many health benefits including:

  1. Controlled blood sugar levels
  2. Weight loss
  3. Increased energy
  4. Improved memory
  5. Decreased risk of heart disease
  6. Reduced cholesterol levels

Slow-acting carbs list

Some foods that contain slow-acting carbs are:

  1. Grains: wheat and corn tortillas, rolled or steel-cut oatmeal, bulgar, quinoa, oat bran, barley, stone-ground wheat bread, sourdough, spelt bread, and All-Bran™ Cereal.
  2. Beans and pulse: baked beans, black-eyed peas, chickpeas, black beans, chickpeas, lentils, soybeans, kidney beans, and navy beans.
  3. Dairy: cheese, low-fat and full-fat milk, cottage cheese, yogurt.
  4. Vegetables: Most vegetables are slow-acting carbs such a green salads, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, mushrooms, etc. You can view this list of Low Glycemic vegetables.
  5. Fresh Fruits: peach, grapefruit, plum, cherry, apple and more! You can view this list of low Glycemic fruits.
  6. Peanut butter and nut butter made from low GI nuts.
  7. Nuts: hazelnuts, peanuts, almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios,
  8. Seeds: sesame, squash, sprouted seeds, amaranth, and sunflower
  9. Popcorn

Ranking Foods as Fast-Acting or Slow-Acting

The effect a food has on blood glucose levels is measured by the Glycemic Index (GI) and is based on a certain amount of carbohydrates. If foods cause blood sugar to raise quickly, those foods are considered high on the GI; however, foods such as watermelon and strawberries rank high on the GI and these types of foods would be restricted on a GI diet even though they do not cause blood sugar to spike.

A GI number of 55 or less is considered low, 55 to 69 is medium, and 70 or above is high. A GI of 70 or above definitely identifies a fast carb.

Glycemic Load (GL), on the other hand, measures not only the type of carbohydrate in a food, but also the amount of carbohydrates that would be eaten in a standard serving, which is often less than 50 grams per serving. Those foods in which a single serving raises and lowers blood sugar quickly are ranked as high-GL foods.

While eating foods low on either the GI or the GL has many health benefits, the GL can be a better measurement in regards to good foods to eat since fruits and vegetables and other low-calorie, healthy foods are not ranked as high-GL foods and are included in a GL diet.

foods with low glycemic index

Diabetes Canada has put together a Glycemic Index Food Guide that ranks carbohydrate-containing food and drink. This guide on Low Gylcemic Meal planning is also very helpful.

Choosing foods that are slow-acting carbs is definitely a better health option. By eating a balanced diet, and avoiding foods that are fast-acting carbs, you can better control your blood sugar and avoid the blood glucose roller coaster effect.

Valentines Day Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Pretzels dipped in chocolate

Dipping your pretzels in chocolate may sound easy, but it can be a bit messy if you over-dip them. Once you have melted your chocolate, you will want to use tongs, a fork, or your fingers to dip the pretzels in the chocolate. You don’t have to cover the entire pretzel in chocolate; however, you do want to make sure that one side is completely covered. Make sure to have your candy hearts and sprinkles ready to put on the top of your white chocolate dipped pretzels hearts before the chocolate dries. Once they have been chilled, you are ready to serve this Valentine’s Day snack or package them to deliver as a gift.

Should i store chocolate covered pretzels in the fridge?

No, do not store the chocolate covered pretzels in the refrigerator in order to avoid condensation. These Valentine’s Day treats will last up to 2 weeks if they are stored in an air tight container at room temperature. If your home is warm, just make sure to keep the container in a cool place.

Disney PhotoPass Service – Yes or No

1

When you visit Walt Disney World, you make memories that last a lifetime. No matter your age, or how many times you’ve been, it’s always a special experience. Have you tried Disney PhotoPass service to capture your trip’s memories? Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of using Disney PhotoPass.

Disney Photographer-PhotoPass

What is PhotoPass?

PhotoPass is a complimentary service where Disney photographers take your picture and give you a PhotoPass card, or scan your MagicBand to attach the pictures to your account. You can create an account at Disney and view all of the photos taken of you and your family.

You can see the different products they offer and choose items that you want to purchase to remember your trip. If you know you’re going to want a lot of photos, you might consider the enhancement called Memory Maker.

Some photographers at Disney will use the two terms interchangeably, so keep in mind that PhotoPass and Memory Maker are essentially the same thing. If you’re going to use the service, you can save a bit of money by choosing to do it before you go and planning it all out. If you hear about it first at the park, you don’t get the same advantage.

Disney Star Wars Land PhotoPass Location

Difference between Disney PhotoPass and Memory Maker

PhotoPass is the name of the service and your individual photos. With PhotoPass Service, you can purchase several products with your photos printed on them like calendars, mugs, phones cases, and buy individual photos.

Memory Maker is the name of the photo package that contains your PhotoPass pictures and videos. You can choose to buy the Disney World Memory Maker for 1 day or for the duration of your stay. This includes all photos and videos taken for the day or your stay. You need to download all your Disney PhotoPass photos and videos before they expire (45 days from the date they’re taken). Once they expire, they can no longer be purchased or downloaded.

Knowing that distinction, you’re ready to decide if it’s right for you!

Disney PhotoPass Service Yes or No

Disney PhotoPass Service: Pros and Cons

You know that you’re going to have your camera and probably smartphones with you at Disney and you can take your own photos, so is Disney PhotoPass worth it and why would you need Disney PhotoPass service?

Here are some Disney PhotoPass benefits:

  1. Disney Magic Shots – This is a PhotoPass exclusive and the professional photographer will post you as needed and then digitally add a character, balloons or other items to the pictures. It’s an enhancement to your Memory Maker package. Basically a “Photoshop” experience, but fun.
  2. When you use PhotoPass, you can get everyone in the photo, rather than someone needing to take the photo of your group.
  3. The photos are professional so the quality might be better, especially if you’re not that skilled at taking photos.
  4. You can get a photo quickly when you walk through an area or pass a PhotoPass photographer.
  5. You can get photos of your family on rides.
  6. When you purchase the Memory Maker in advance, you can get a discount.
  7. You can review all of your photos and borders, etc. at home to see the ones you want.
  8. You can download your Disney PhotoPass photos for up to 25 members of your Family & Friends who share media with you.
Disney Magic Shots - Disney PhotoPass

Some Disney World PhotoPass cons:

  1. The package is pricey and not everyone will be able to budget it after springing for a Disney vacation, too.
  2. The online photo editing tools are limited.
  3. There are not PhotoPass photographers with all of the characters (but with most of them).
  4. There is a chance that photos can be lost. It’s rare, but with so many photos taken of so many people around the parks all day long, there are chances some can be lost. If you get back home and don’t see a shot of your favourite character in your package, there’s a possibility that nothing you can be done about it unless you’re going back. Having said this, you can contact Disney PhotoPass customer service to see if they can find your photo.

Every time I have been to Walt Disney World, I used the Disney PhotoPass service and purchased in advance the Disney Memory Maker for the duration of our stay. You can’t beat the magical photos the Disney photographers take of your family members!

6 Good Habits for Kids

4

It’s important to create good habits in our kids for them to become responsible adults. You will find below good habits to do everyday with your children.

When children are present, parents must be cognizant of what they say and do, since children mirror and mime them. For example, think about children who are disrespectful and rude, which hurts themselves as much as others. Such behaviours and bad habits push people away from them perhaps at a time in their lives when they need positive adult attention the most. Therefore, when their child is first born, parents should begin to develop daily good habits that they wish to have the child soak into his or her being and copy.

Good habits kids can learn from parents

Let’s examine this list of good habits and see what some of them should include!

1. Respect for Self and Others

Speak in a manner that is pleasant, kind, and complimentary to others. Listen when someone is speaking and don’t interrupt. Re-phrase what you heard when you are uncertain as to whether or not you correctly comprehended the message.

2. Honesty and Integrity

One way to be making good habits is to own up to mistakes you make. Even if you do something wrong deliberately, don’t lie about it. Lies only dig deeper holes. They leave you working overtime to remember what story you told last. People won’t trust a liar. Therefore, maintain an honest policy in all you say and do.

3. Self-Sufficiency

Children, who learn early how to dress and care for themselves, are more responsible individuals. They possess a self-esteem and confidence, both for what they are capable of doing and for the responses that adults project toward them.

4. Good habits of reading

Instead of sitting youngsters in front of the television, they would benefit much more by being read to on a daily basis. Such a habit is also reinforced as they are witness to their parents reading books, newspapers, and magazines. You know yourself that if you were brought up with parents who read the daily newspaper, for example, you do likewise. You developed the habit.

5. Budget

When children become aware of money, say through possessing a piggy bank or money jar, they should learn to put some aside for saving, as well as for donating, whether to church, an organization or a special cause. What’s left over is spending money to buy whatever they need or want. Learning to divide money into such categories becomes their automatic money management habit that they carry into adulthood. These are good habits to form at an early age.

6. Need or Want

Look around at kids today. Very often we see that everything is a “need.” Had they been asked at a young age, for example, if the toy car in the grocery store aisle was “needed” or “wanted,” they would have developed such a habit of evaluating purchases. Overspending and debt compilation could be avoided with learned proper spending habits.

Certainly these good habits in kids could be added according to the family lifestyles. These good habits to develop would appear to be those that would be considered essential for teaching kids to be productive, intelligent and responsible adults. They would be contributors to society in numerous ways. In addition, they will be adults passing on their learned and tried and true habits to the next generation.

Do You Need Fats In Your Diet?

2

For many people, fat is a three letter word, but it doesn’t have to be. Certain types of fat are good for us. Here’s what you need to know about dietary fats and why fats are important in our diet.

What are the major types of fat

The four main types of fat are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, saturated, and trans fats.

Why Fats Are Important

While too much fat of any type can lead to weight gain, fat is a necessary part of the diet. It helps the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, and E and makes you feel more satiated after you eat, which in turn means you’ll eat less.

Importance of unsaturated fats

What are polyunsaturated fats? Polyunsaturated fats can help lower your cholesterol. They are divided into two types: omega-6 and omega-3 fats, both of which play a crucial role in brain function. Omega-6 fats are found in safflower, sunflower and corn oils, as well as nuts and seeds. Omega-3 fats are in fish, canola oil, omega-3 eggs, walnuts, pecans, and pine nuts.

It is important to increase our intake of omega-3 fats and reduce our intake of omega-6 fats. For most of human history, our ratio of intake of omega-6 to omega-3 fats was about 2 to 1; now it is at least 10 to 1, and consuming this much omega-6 fat can lead to cardiovascular problems. To get the ratio back in line, consume more fish, nuts and seeds and consume fewer foods cooked in vegetable oil.

Is monounsaturated fat healthy? Monounsaturated fats are very healthy, having gained popularity with the rise of the Mediterranean diet. People who follow this diet eat a relatively large amount of monounsaturated fat, yet are not overweight and rarely have heart disease. The foods that are high in monounsaturated fats are olive oil, canola oil, avocados, nuts, and seeds. This type of fat can help lower your cholesterol and many of the sources of monounsaturated fat are also sources of vitamin E, which many Canadians need more of.

Saturated Fats and Trans Fats

Why is it important to limit trans fats and saturated fats?

Saturated fats are mainly found in animal foods such as beef, lamb, pork, dairy products, and poultry with the skin on. Saturated fat should be limited in the diet since it can raise your cholesterol level.

Trans fats are very bad for your health and should be avoided entirely. They are found in fried foods, baked goods, and any product with partially hydrogenated oil. They are a by-product of the hydrogenation process, and are worse for you than trans fats because they not only raise your LDL (low-density lipoprotein) or “bad” cholesterol, but also lower your HDL (high-density lipoproteins) or “good” cholesterol.

Saturated Fats and Trans Fats

How many grams of fat do you need a day?

Most people should get between 20 and 30 per cent of their calories from fat. So someone eating 1,800 calories per day would need about 70 grams of fat. Most of this should be polyunsaturated or monounsaturated.

Understanding the differences between the types of fat can help you consume the healthy fats in your diet and the ones that will improve your health (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated) and avoid the harmful fats (saturated and trans fats). Dietary fats have many health benefits, so if you want to get more healthy fats in your diet, enjoy that salad with an extra-virgin olive oil vinaigrette and you’ll please your taste buds and your heart.

Snowflake Cupcakes Recipe

8

These super easy and fun winter snowflake cupcakes will take your baking skills to the next level. If you love decked out cupcakes either for their tastiness, or their eye appeal, you’re in luck on both counts. This easy blend of vanilla and peppermint takes you back to the heyday of cupcake competition shows and specialty bake shops.

Snowflake Cupcakes with York Peppermint patties

A Different Kind of Winter Cupcake

The use of French vanilla cake mix is the basis for creating a fuller and more robust flavoured cupcake that is at once more rewarding than anything you would typically buy at the store. On top of that, the mix itself gets sprinkles which makes for a great surprise within the cake as you take your first bite. With wintery details inside and outside of the cake, this treat stands out as more than just a pretty snack. This winter dessert also makes the perfect Disney’s Frozen snowflake cupcakes for a themed birthday party!

Applying a Winter Frost to Snowflake Cupcakes

The trickiest and most fun part of making an impressive photo-worthy cupcake is applying the frosting. There is a simple process to getting this just right that anybody can do. In the recipe directions for the vanilla frosting, I outline exactly how to get the perfect look on top of your vanilla peppermint cupcakes. All you need to do is use a pastry bag to pipe a ring around the top rim. Then, fill in the centre and top it with a simply decorated peppermint patty. A straightforward snowflake design on the chocolate peppermint disc goes a long way toward the winning presentation of this very unique and flavourful winter dessert.

Snowflake cupcakes recipe

These snowflake cupcakes are topped with peppermint patties and are far more flavourful and interesting than your typical cupcake. This is mainly because I use deeper, richer French vanilla cake mix to start. Unlike other types of vanilla named for the places where the vanilla beans grow, French vanilla is traditionally vanilla ice cream made with a custard base.

Indoor Activities For The Family

4

Keeping children entertained during the cold winter months can be a difficult task. Television viewing, computer time, and video games are all too often a staple of indoor activities. This article contains some fun and often educational alternatives for indoor activities for the families. What are some indoor activities? Let’s look at these fun indoor activities for the family below!

Family Museum Visit

Museums can be a wonderful place to educate and entertain children. Young children can often explore and admire, while older teens can investigate science, history, or art in further depth.

There are many different types of museums available for fun family outings. These include art museums, science museums, and natural history, or history-based museums. Additionally, there may be a local selection of very specific museums that focus on state or city history/historical figures.

Choose a museum based on family need. Consult museum websites or call the museum directly to learn about special family programs and exhibits. Make sure that the museum is appropriate for the child (or children) in the family. Consider museum subject matter and the child’s age, attention level, interests, or favourite subjects in school.

Performing Arts and Children

Another great indoor activity for families is a visit to a live performance. This includes the theatre, ballet, or a variety of musical performances. Search for a performing art that specifically interests the child or family. For example, if the child is beginning to take violin lessons, a symphony might be appropriate.

When selecting a performing arts activity for the family, remember to consider the subject matter and length of the performance in terms of the child’s age. Avoid subject matter that is considered mature in nature or may be frightening to a young child. It is also advisable to choose performance based on program length. A preschool-aged child may not be able to sit through the ballet with two-hour long acts but may be comfortable with a forty-five-minute long play.

In order to select an appropriate and enjoyable performance, consult the website for the performing arts organization offering production, look for reviews in local newspapers or magazines, or call the organization directly. Many performing arts organizations have an education or community engagement department that may be of help in answering questions. Box office or ticketing staff may be able to direct parents to the best seats for young children in terms of view and ease of entrance/exit.

Ottawa Theatres

  1. Ottawa Little Theatre
  2. National Arts Centre
  3. Shenkman Arts Centre
  4. Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe
  5. The Gladstone
  6. Bronson Centre Music Theatre
  7. Odyssey Theatre

Indoor Sports for Families

The winter cold does not mean that sports activities should be placed on hold until spring. There are many indoor sports for children to enjoy over the snowy months. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Tennis played in indoor clubs or tennis bubbles
  • Indoor soccer
  • Swimming in an indoor pool
  • Basketball
  • Badminton

Indoor fun for the family

There’s nothing that says you have to stay home for a family night. There are many different options available in most cities for entertaining family fun. Go bowling, go for a family walk, or take a nature hike. Make a list and have a winter scavenger hunt in your backyard. The options are endless. The important thing is who you’re with, not what you do.

Indoor Activity ideas For The Family

What are good family activities?

From the museum to the ballet to everyday art projects, the winter months can be filled with fun activities for children and families. Look for indoor activities that support the specific interests of each child, and try a variety over time. Make sure to consider the child’s age and attention level when selecting an indoor family activity.

Parenting Through Emotional Baggage: How To Stop It

3

Parenting through emotional baggage is much the same as swimming through mud. The harder you struggle, the deeper you sink.

While the single parent may face additional challenges, all parents struggling with emotional baggage face many of the same issues. You can play the part of the victim if you like. You can make all the excuses in the world. Even playing the blame game may divert you for a while; however, you have to reconcile the past and make changes for the future before you can truly move on.

Emotional baggage in relationships

In relationships, the deeper you attach to the other person, the more difficult it is to let go. The single mom may fantasize about the way it was before the divorce. The married mom may fantasize about the man she thought she was married to. Either way, children become unwilling victims in the process.

Dealing with emotional baggage

Living in a tunnel of negative emotions can leave you feeling helpless and hopeless. You have difficulty dealing with the current situation you are facing. Some people medicate, some abuse alcohol, and still other immerse themselves in mindless activates to avoid reality. This helps them to avoid facing the reality of the situation that is causing them so much pain. Any aversion or addiction will only make matters worse in the end.

Unfortunately, this does nothing in helping them face reality and make changes. Anyone struggling with parenting through emotional baggage first needs to recognize what it is that is not working for them in the right now. You cannot hide behind substance abuse or false realities without compounding the problem.

Are your kids overly withdrawn, belligerent, disrespectful, or acting out in other negative ways? Someone needs to assume a role of leadership and steer this particular ship back on course. Although that if often easier said than done, it is not an impossible feat.

Despite which partner is at fault, attention must be focused on the children. Kids in general are excellent at assimilating information and processing it in a way that makes them the proverbial bad guy. Whether it is mom and dad screaming at each other or single mom raging at the disappearance of dad, the end damage is the same.

Let go of emotional baggage

If you are floundering, your children will flounder. This is one reason airlines instruct you to put on your own oxygen mask before then assisting your children. In other words, you must take care of yourself first in order that to take care of your children effectively.

Too many excuses prolong the agony and suffering for all involved. No matter which party is at fault, the children should never be used as scapegoats. They should definitely never be casualties in a war between parents.

If you find yourself in a situation like this, do the right thing. Speak up, reach out, and get professional help in order to let go of the emotional baggage. Find a trusted family member, a pastor, or a therapist who can help you navigate your way back to emotional health.

There is no shame in admitting you need help or in asking for help. What is a shame, however, is the damage being done to the children. This long lasting negative experience becomes the emotional baggage your kids will carry into the future.

Parenting Through Emotional Baggage: How To Stop It

This is how the cycle perpetuates itself from generation to generation. Be the one to stop this vicious cycle in your family by parenting your kids without emotional baggage. Be the hero in the rest of your story and a write a happy ending for all.

10 Foods to Avoid if You Want to Lose Weight

7

The best laid plans to adhere to a weight loss diet can be scuppered when one succumbs to the temptation of an array of unhealthy and nutritionally lacking foods. Fatty, sugary, processed, and fried foods are the primary downfall of dieters – and many are tempted by a combination of all four. Let’s have a closer look at foods to avoid if you want to lose weight.

Adhering to a diet may be stressful and frustrating. A far better way in which to tackle weight loss is to cut out the foods most likely to contribute to weight gain and learn to appreciate healthy foods, which are not laden with artificial flavours. Eliminating processed foods is an excellent starting point.

Foods to Avoid if You Want to Lose Weight

These are the top 10 foods to avoid, when trying to lose weight, that will ruin your diet:

1. Sodas

Sodas lack any nutritional value and are packed with sugar. Even diet sodas contribute to weight gain as the inclusion of artificial sugars lead to cravings for sweet things. Sugar, aspartame, and high-fructose corn syrup are unnecessary additions to the daily diet, which have become habit forming. Simply cutting out the daily soda will reduce bloating and put one on the first step to weight loss, not to mention improving dental health.

2. Processed meat

Hot dog sausages, pre-packaged meats, bacon, and salami, are all packed with the carcinogenic ingredient sodium nitrate, and loaded with salt, chemicals, preservatives, and sugar. Much of the processed meat on offer bears little resemblance to actual meat, having been constructed from mechanically deboned meat, fat, and blood. Not only does it represent a ticking time-bomb health-wise, it adds to the calorie count.

3. Pizza

Pizza may contain hundreds of calories a slice. Whether store bought or purchased from a pizza joint the average pizza is packed with salt, fatty cheeses, processed meat toppings, and a high calorie dough base. If pizza is too much of a temptation to ignore then switch to homemade pizza dough topped with fresh vegetables and herbs.

4. French fries

A fast food French fry has little in common with an actual potato. The processed potato offering is most likely fried in Tran’s fat or hydrogenated fats. A far healthier and more diet friendly alternative are oven roasted potato slices, complete with skin, drizzled in olive oil.

5. Fast food

One of the worst foods to eat for weight loss is fast food. Fries are not the only diet busting item available from fast food restaurants. Whether the choice is Burger King, McDonald’s, KFC, or any of the other grease laden outlets, most of the food on offer is not diet friendly. From white processed bread rolls to processed cheese slices, the fare from these restaurants is best avoided.

fast food

6. Snack foods

Chips, pretzels, and salted peanuts typify the packets of high calorie processed snacks which fill the gap between meals. Laden with salt, sugar, chemicals, and preservatives they don’t do dieters any favours.

7. Processed salad dressings

Many salads have been ruined by the addition of store bought salad dressing. The high calorie sweetened dressings available can thwart the good intentions of those that turn to salads as a healthy option. Bin the bottles in favour of an oil and vinegar salad dressing using extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, and freshly squeezed lemon juice.

8. Candy

Sweets and candy can be tempting but can ruin a diet. Ditch the candy in favour of an occasional slab of antioxidant rich dark chocolate.

9. Hidden sugars

Dieters often begin by forgoing sugar in tea and coffee, but hidden sugars and artificial sweeteners lurk in the most unlikely of foods. Always check on the packaging to determine just how much unnecessary sugar is added to what would otherwise be healthy food choices, such as yogurt and fruit juice.

10. Doughnuts

Not only packed with sugar these tempting cakes have the added distinction of being deep fried in fat. Too many doughnuts can lead to a doughnut styled gut which every dieter is trying to avoid.

Foods to Avoid if You Want to Lose Weight

Each of these foods to avoid in order to lose weight listed above will ruin a diet! They all share the common feature of being processed rather than fresh. They share in common the addition of sugar, salt, and chemicals that are designed to tempt the taste buds; however, once these items are eliminated from the diet it allows the taste buds time to develop and appreciate the real taste of food not contaminated by artificial additions.

Pull Apart Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe

11

The thing I love most about this three-ingredient pull apart cheesy garlic bread is how little you need to get the job done. Garlic spread and cheese are the only two things you need to enhance an ordinary loaf of bread. The result is mind-blowing.

Once you start doing this you will want to make it a regular pre-meal snack. If you don’t know, pull apart bread is exactly like it sounds. You serve it up whole and everybody at the table picks at it by pulling it apart and taking a piece. The gooey melted cheese that holds the pieces together makes the pull apart bread with cheese effect even better.

Pulling Apart Your Cheesy Garlic Bread

As you do the pull-apart motion, you get this really satisfying stretchy melted cheese that makes it look as incredible as it tastes. It’s a lot like pulling apart a halved grilled cheese sandwich, but even better! The key is great ingredients and a little bit of technique which I will share with you here before you make this recipe. There are only a few simple steps to follow to make this easy pull apart garlic cheese bread, which you can buy at the bakery section of your local grocery store. It’s very easy to do and doesn’t take much time, so add this to your weekly rotation whenever you want a cheesy appetizer or a high-calorie snack.

The Secret to Great pull apart cheese and garlic bread

The only tricky element here is your knife work. You need to score the bread which means you must make a grid in the loaf by cutting into it with your knife. You can’t slice all the way through, but your cuts can’t be too shallow either. It isn’t complicated or difficult. You just have to be careful. If you like to be methodical about your garlic spread application, try this: Slice one way and then spread in the garlic in one smear across each cut. Then slice the other direction and apply the rest. This way you will have less to cover after the squares are made.

Cheese For Garlic Bread

Use any cheese you like, but think about how you like your grilled cheese. Shredded cheese that comes in larger weightier slivers is better for getting in the cracks. Otherwise, you will need to poke the cheese in. Slices of cheese wedged between gaps in the bread are also an easy way to get coverage more quickly. This is such a good pull apart bread with cheese!

How to make pull apart garlic cheese bread

Winter Safety: 5 Tips for Parents

3

For adults, winter means clogged traffic, icy streets, snowed-in driveways and other seasonal troubles. For kids, winter is a fun time. The older ones can glory in the morning TV and radio message: no school today due to the heavy snowfall. For the littlest ones, there is playing in the new white stuff, making snow angels and discovering many other wonderful things to do. Some basic tips about winter safety may help reduce or eliminate those cold-weather dangers.

Tips for Winter Safety

1. Before sending your kids out to play in the snow, be sure to dess them in layers that will keep body heat in while not allowing the cold to invade. Wool hats that cover the ears or ear muffs will prevent frost bite. If the temperature is extra low, dress them with a wool ski mask head cover, with just holes for eyes and a slit for mouth. Complete the winter dress-up with heavy gloves or mittens with strings that attach to sleeves.

2. Whenever your kids go out into snow-covered areas away from your house, always be sure the buddy system is in effect. The best match-up would be an older one to watch a younger one. This is necessary when there are large groups of kids skating, sledding, and ski-boarding in the same area, such as the local park. Kids must keep their individual buddies in sight at all times.

3. If you live in an urban area, the buddy system is critical when there’s heavy traffic, icy streets, early darkness, and other potential safety hazards. If your kids are very young, it is best that each is always accompanied by a parent or other adult if there is any street, sidewalk, or other danger due to winter weather.

4. For all kids, limit their play outside on severe winter days to just an hour or two at a time. Require frequent rests at home to warm up and dry off. Give them nutritious snacks, along with hot beverages.

5. When the kids come in from playing in the snow, check immediately for any indications of illness. Uncontrolled shivering or high temperatures may indicate the beginnings of colds or flu. Check their hands and feet for possible frostbite. If any symptoms may worsen, that should be the end of playing in the snow that day.

Winter activities for kids who play outside in cold weather and snow is a constant concern for responsible parents. They must allow all the fun without neglecting the safety responsibilities.

Wellness Tips: How To Stay Healthy During The Winter

6

It has always been a challenge to stay healthy during the winter season. But now, with the appearance of Covid-19, this task has become crucial. We need to double our efforts and learn how to stay healthy and take care of the people we love. In this article, we have collected time-tested and effective ways to remain healthy and happy even during the most turbulent season. Don’t forget to note them down and put them into practice!

How To Stay Healthy During The Winter

Stay hydrated

On average, the human body is 65% water. It is essential for every process, and the lack of water may lead to dehydration, chronic fatigue, oxidation of cells, and other negative effects. During the cold weather, we might not be as thirsty as in summer, and the risk of dehydration increases. According to the CDC, every day, women should have around 11.5 cups of fluids and men – 15.5 cups. To drink more water, try adding lemon, mint, or berries and placing the glass near your workplace.

Dress according to the weather

The next way to stay healthy in winter is dressing based on the weather. It may change rapidly, so you should follow weather forecasts and look outside to decide what to wear. Here are a few simple measures:

  • Wrap up warm
  • Wear several layers to trap air and stay warm
  • Wear gloves, scarf, and hat
  • Choose water-resistant shoes with warm lining

These precautions not only help to remain healthy, but also prevent chilblains that are difficult to get rid of. If you have heart or breathing problems, it is better to stay inside during the coldest days.

Give up bad habits

Don’t consider us boring for reminding you how bad smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are. They drain your energy and can cause irreversible changes. By quitting smoking and reducing alcohol consumption, you can:

  • Prolong your life
  • Look better
  • Decrease risks of such diseases as lung cancer, emphysema, high blood pressure, reflux, kidney disease, sexual dysfunction, and others
  • Reduce the chances that your children will get sick from secondhand smoking
  • Feel healthy and proud of yourself
  • Improve the sense of smell

If you can’t cope with the problem on your own and online tutorials or lectures don’t help, try joining a local support group or contacting centers that know how to deal with addictions.

Have quality sleep

Sleeping at least 8-9 hours at night without interruptions is one of the best presents you can give yourself. Quality sleep eliminates stress levels, boosts the immune system, burns calories, improves memory, strengthens the heart, and helps to remain positive and happy.

After a good sleep, you will feel well-rested, productive, and ready for the day. This will not only help you to fight winter colds but build stronger relationships and even get a promotion. It is wise to invest in blackout curtains, an orthopedic mattress, and a convenient pillow.

Do sports regularly

There is probably no need to enumerate the benefits of physical activity; however, the lockdown has complicated the process because many of us don’t have access to gyms and swimming pools, or don’t want to expose themselves to viruses. Luckily, you can do sports from home, as there are lots of online tutorials and even live sessions with professional coaches.

To track progress, use an online video camera and record your workouts. Thus, you can improve the technique or even create a lifestyle blog.

Control vitamin D levels

In winter, most of us experience a lack of sunlight. The days are shorter, and we don’t spend as much time outdoors as in summer. The vitamin D levels decrease, which results in a seasonal affective disorder, bad mood, and troubled sleep. This vitamin is one of the building blocks of our immune system, so if you want to be healthy, soak in the sun, add vitamin D supplements, and regularly check its levels by blood tests.

You can also add eggs, meat, oily fish, and dairy to your nutrition plan. They are the best sources of vitamin D, as well as other irreplaceable micro and macroelements.

Eat quality food

Wellness tips always include healthy and diverse nutrition. To avoid cold and flu, you should eat foods that support the immune system. For example, garlic, herbs, probiotics, spices, apples, and mushrooms. Add bananas and berries to natural yogurt, and you will get a great source of probiotics and vitamins.

Having well-balanced nutrition with whole grains, fish, vegetables, and fibre makes you healthier and maintains the right number of vitamins and minerals in the body. Luckily, there are many online tutorials, blogs, and even academic courses that can teach you how to eat healthily, plan meals, and adapt dishes to different seasons. Conscious eating is the key to a healthy life without diseases and medications.

Pay attention to mental health

It is great if you eat healthily, work out at home, and stay hydrated. But there is one thing that can whittle away these achievements. Yes, we are talking about mental health. During the colder months, you can be moody, emotionally unstable, anxious, or even depressed. Which, in turn, may reduce the body’s ability to defend itself.

To take care of your mental health, dedicate enough time to rest, do what you love, connect with others, and avoid scolding yourself. If you notice that the situation is out of control, it is better to contact a professional and get qualified help.

Conclusion

We know that it may be time-consuming to prepare healthy meals, work out at home, and track sun exposure. However, building positive habits pays back, and in a while, you will feel more energetic and optimistic. You will be ready for new challenges and achievements and won’t leave a single chance for cold or flu. If you have other viable tips, don’t hesitate to share them with us!
