The list below includes a number of homemade salves that will help heal your body inside and out. The Lavender Salve alone has many wonderful purposes. Not only does it smooth and soften the skin, but the scent is calming and can help relieve headaches and muscle tension.

Salve Meaning

Chances are you have heard the term salve, but what does it mean? A salve is a basically a lotion that is used to provide protection or healing to your skin or even your muscles. People often use salves to repair dry skin, sooth aching muscles, or soften and smooth the skin. If you’ve purchased lotions and other skin products in your local store, you may be adding more chemicals to your body rather than providing healing with a DIY salve.

Homemade salves are preferred because you know what’s in them. Many salves include oils (almond, olive, coconut, etc.) and beeswax pastilles. These are the ingredients that help the salve absorb into your skin. Salves also often include herbs and essential oils that are used for their healing properties.
