How to Choose the Best Cabin on a Cruise Ship

0

There are many choices when it comes to choosing a cabin on a cruise ship. Do you know how to choose the best cabin on a cruise ship?

How to choose a cabin on a cruise ship

Cruising is now becoming more popular than anyone could have anticipated twenty years ago. To cruise to far away places is now a real possibility for many people. Once it was just the rich and the famous that cruised the seven seas in their ball gowns and their tuxedos, now cruising is open to everyone and at a price that we can all afford.

How to Choose the Best Cabin on a Cruise Ship

Choosing the best cabin for your cruise is entirely up to your budget and your needs:

1. The cheapest cabins are the ones that have no windows. They are called inside cabins. The next cabins will be window cabins and they will have a window. Some will be small windows, while others will have a larger window.

2. The next cabin will be a cabin with a balcony with sliding doors that will let you enter your own small private balcony.

3. Then we now start to go up in price, with owner’s suites and penthouses. Most of these will be out of our price budget, unless we have saved our hard earned pennies and treated ourselves to a one off luxury cruise.

4. There is a cabin that could spoil your cruise, and that is the cabin on the promenade deck. This deck is where the lifeboats are decked and you will have a window in your cabin, but who wants to open their curtains to a view of a lifeboat? Not only would you see lifeboats, but also this is the deck that passengers can walk or jog during the day or the night. Who wants to keep their curtains closed all day to get that little bit of privacy.

5. Remember also that the cabins that are near the top of the ship are prone to noise from the passengers that are enjoying the amenities on the top outside deck. Far better to go down a few decks where the noise is far less.

6. Do not pay for a cabin near the bottom of the cruise ship there will be the constant noise from the engines running as well as the noise of the anchor dropping when going into port.

The video below talks about the best and worst cruise ship cabins.

Caribbean Cruise Cabin

On a cruise, most people like to be pampered, and that’s not to say that you should pay for the most expensive cabin on the ship. On any cruise you will find that the staff pamper not only you but your better half as well, and you do not have to stay in an expensive stateroom to get that treatment. What you can do is pick your cruise and then choose the cabin to suits the cruise.

I like the sunny Caribbean. To me there is nothing like the warm sunshine of the Caribbean, but why do you need a balcony for on a cruise in the Caribbean? After all, all you doing is sailing from one small island to another with the Caribbean sea in between. There is nothing to see as you sail, just the sea, so why pay for a balcony when all you have to do is go onto the top deck and sit and watch the sea go by? On a Caribbean cruise just pay for either a window cabin or an inside cabin.

Scenic cruise cabin

Now it is different on a cruise that takes on scenery. A balcony cabin is necessary; to sit on your balcony and watch the wonderful scenery of an Alaskan cruise is one of life’s little luxuries. To sit sipping your first cup of tea or coffee on a warm summer morning all quiet and still with only the sound of the pacific waves splashing the side of the ship is divine. Moreover, you can do that when you pay that little bit more for a balcony. It is the same as you cruise through the Panama Canal. Both the Panama Canal and an Alaskan cruise are full of interesting scenery.

Around the world cruise Cabin

If you are lucky enough to take an around the world cruise, then you must plan your budget with military precision, after all, since you will be cruising for at least three months. In those three months, your cabin will be your home, just like your house, the place that you can retire to. And if you have not chosen your cabin wisely, it can become your prison. On a world cruise, I would choose very wisely indeed. Pay for the best cabin that you can afford, and try to avoid the inside cabins, since they all have is artificial lighting and to spend three months in a cabin like this could be horrible. A cabin with a window could make all the difference between a good world cruise and a great world cruise.

How to Choose the Best Cabin on a Cruise Ship

Choose your cabin wisely on every cruise that you go on, and remember the best cabin will make your cruise that little bit better. It’s better to pay that little bit more for the right cabin than to pay less thinking that you are saving yourself money. While saving money you could be spoiling your cruise. Hope these cruise tips on choosing the best cabin will come in handy!

How To Teach A Child To Ride A Bike

1

Teaching a child to ride a bicycle can be a challenging process. Coordination varies from child to child. Some children may be able to ride a bike unattended from as early as 2 years of age, others may not until they are around 6 or 7 years old. Let’s have a closer look at some tips on how to teach a child to ride a bike.

Teaching a Child to Ride a Bike

Be patient. It will take a lots of practice, and a few tumbles to teach a child to ride is bike. If the child falls off, it is a good idea to get them back on immediately to prevent them from becoming frightened. Be persistent and they will be pedalling around in no time.

How do balance bikes work?

Balance bikes teach children to learn to balance while moving without relying on training wheels or stabilizers, therefore the transition to a pedal bike is often much quicker. You can even get balance bikes for toddlers.

First, you teach your child to stride along on the balance bike. Once they understand this, they will start to lift their feet and glide. As you child gets stronger, the gliding will be longer and faster. It can take a few months to a year for your child to learn how to do it. Your next step is now to buy a bicycle with pedals.

Tricycle

Purchasing a trike or three wheeled bicycle while a child is learning to walk is the first step. Tricycles teach youngsters to steer and use pedals. In the beginning, the child will probably shuffle along holding the handle bars or use his feet to push the trike along. With practice children will begin to steer and pedal.

How to teach a child to ride a bike with training wheels

Once the child has mastered pedalling and steering and the parent feels he is ready, move them to a small bike with training wheels. Make sure that the child is using the correct bicycle for his height. It is usually easier for the child to learn on a bike that is undersized. This will make it easier for them to reach the pedals and handle bars.

Start with two training wheels on the bicycle. As the child becomes more confident riding their bike, the training wheels will eventually raise off the ground. Parents will eventually notice over time, the training wheels are no longer on the ground when the child is riding and means they are no longer needed. Another option is to remove one side of the training wheels until the child feels 100 percent confident. Then remove the second one.

On another note, some children’s bike’s can be purchased with a steering device for parents. This is a long handle on the rear of the bike that allows an adult to steer and brake.

Once the training wheels are off

A popular method to teach a child to ride a bike includes the parent running with the child, holding them until they are balanced, and then letting go. The parents should ensure they are holding the child, not the bicycle. Holding onto the bicycle will make it unbalanced.

This video below will help you to teach your child to ride their bike.

Bike Safety for Children

Bicycle safety should begin early. Encouraging a child to wear a helmet while riding their trike will ensure that when they begin riding a bicycle it will be routine for them to wear one. Knee and elbow pads may also be considered when the child is learning to ride.

Bike Camp

If you are looking for additional help in teaching your child to ride a bike, you can also enrol him/her in a bike camp such as the one in Ottawa called Pedalheads. It’s an instructional bike camp that focuses on teaching kids how to use and ride a bike, proper safety techniques, and gaining the confidence to ride without fear.

How To Teach A Child To Ride A Bike

Children should learn to ride at their own pace. Like most things, if children are pushed to do something, the chances are they won’t enjoy it. Riding a bike is not only a fun family activity, but it is also great exercise for a child. Hope these tips on teaching a child to ride a bike will come in handy!

How to Avoid Getting Sick While Flying

0

It’s day 2 of your dream vacation, and you wake up to the sun streaming in the window, a day full of fun activities planned, and a rotten cold. You pull the blankets back over your head and moan, “Why Me?” The reason this situation occurs all too often is because of the large number of people who are seated together in a confined space on a plane. Let’s have a closer look at how to avoid getting sick while flying.

How to Avoid Getting Sick While Flying

How to avoid getting sick while flying

Commercial airliners are not routinely disinfected between each flight. About 40-50% of the air you breathe has been re-circulated and filters are not fool-proof. The air is extremely low in humidity and the dryness can cause nasal and respiratory irritation, making travellers more susceptible to airborne diseases.

There are 13 steps you can take on your next flight to reduce your chances of getting sick on a plane:

  1. Get a good night’s sleep before you travel and arrive at the airport early to reduce the stress of traveling on your body.
  2. Ask your physician to recommend some immunity boosting supplements that you can take before your trip.
  3. Drink plenty of water before and during your flight to avoid dehydration.
  4. Use a saline spray before and during a long flight to moisten nasal passages. This will reduce irritation that can be caused by dry air.
  5. Bring a small package of antibacterial wipes and use one to wipe down your armrests, tray table, and seat belt latch when you take your seat.
  6. Bring a hand sanitizer bottle for a fast and easy cleaning of your hands.
  7. If you must use the lavatory, make sure you wash your hands and use a towel or an antibacterial wipe to unlatch the door. The last visitor may not have washed their hands.
  8. Do not use the provided blankets or pillows. Some airlines do not laundered pillowcases and blankets between flights; however, if pillows and blankets are wrapped in plastic, this usually means that they have been cleaned. I do recommend bringing your own instead.
  9. Bring your own reading material. If you choose to read the material provided in the seat-back keep in mind that it has been handled by many others before you.
  10. At a minimum, wash your hands well with soap and water before boarding, after using the lavatory, and before eating.
  11. Avoid touching your face, nose, or mouth. It may be hard to resist the impulse to lick your finger to turn the page of the book you are reading, but try to be conscious of it.
  12. If the person sitting next to you is obviously ill and there is another seat available, move as soon as you can. Most flight attendants will be happy to assist you if you explain the situation discretely.
  13. Due to Covid, in Canada, passengers must wear a mask throughout their entire plane travel journey except for brief periods while eating, drinking, or taking oral medication, or unless otherwise exempt. If the airline or country you are travelling into does not require to wear a mask and you have a compromised immune system, it would be best to wear a face mask. You may feel uncomfortable for a few hours, but that is far better than winding up in the hospital.

5 Best Places to Visit in Massachusetts

2

Massachusetts is the state of New England coastal resorts and beaches, the big city culture and excitement of Boston, and the historical richness of the colonial and Revolutionary War eras. Keep reading to find the 5 best places to visit in Massachusetts!

Best places to see in Massachusetts

Some of the prime examples of sites worth seeing and experiencing if you visit Massachusetts include:

5 Best Places to Visit in Massachusetts

1. The Freedom Trail, Boston

There are few cities as important as Boston in American history. The Freedom Trail is a self-guided walking tour of historically significant sites, two and a half miles if you walk the whole route, starting at the oldest public park in the country Boston Common, and ending in neighbouring Charlestown at the Bunker Hill Monument and USS Constitution.

The Trail includes a total of sixteen marked stops, including the centuries old Granary Burial Ground where Paul Revere is interred, the original 1635 site of the Boston Latin School which was the first public school in America, the Old South Meetinghouse where the Boston Tea Party was planned, and the Old State House built in 1713.

John Havard Statue

2. Harvard University, Cambridge

Ask the typical American what is the greatest university in the country, and aside from their own alma mater, the most common answer is likely to be Harvard. In fact, it would get more than its share of votes as the greatest university in the world.

Founded in 1638, Harvard University is by a wide margin the oldest academic institution of higher learning in the Americas.

In addition to the usual college tours for potential incoming undergraduate and graduate students, Harvard University offers free guided historical walking tours of its campus for visitors.

3. Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard is definitely one of the best places to visit in Massachusetts! Since the 1800s Martha’s Vineyard has had the reputation as the summer retreat for the “beautiful people” (or rich people anyway) of New England. Located to the south of Cape Cod, it is the largest island on the East Coast that is not connected to the mainland by tunnel or bridge. (Access is by ferry or plane.) With a year-round population of 15,000, and a summer population that can reach five times that, Martha’s Vineyard truly is a seasonal destination.

Enjoy wine tasting, biking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, and more during your time on the island.

With a cost of living 60% higher than the national average, and housing costs close to double the national average, to some extent it lives up to its reputation as a playground for the rich. But it is not impossible to enjoy Martha’s Vineyard without spending a fortune. Lodging ranges from the sky high to the tolerable. The same is true of restaurants. And certainly one can enjoy swimming, relaxing in the sun on one of its picturesque New England beaches, or strolling through its quaint towns window shopping and people watching, and spend little or nothing.

Marthas Vineyard Massachusetts

4. Sam Adams Brewery, Boston

The name Sam Adams is nowadays probably associated more with beer than with the Founding Father and brother of our second President.

Located in the Jamaica Plain neighbourhood of Boston, the Sam Adams Brewery offers Tour Experiences from Thursday to Monday, taking you behind the scenes of the brewmaking process, and, yes, there are plenty of samples. There is an admission charge, so please check their website for more information.

Also in Boston, if you want to make it an all-alcoholic themed day, why not stop by the former Bull & Finch Pub in the Beacon Hill District, now renamed “Cheers” after the television show it inspired?

5. Worcester Art Museum, Worcester

At the outskirts of the Boston metropolitan area, about forty miles west of downtown Boston, Worcester is roughly tied with Providence, Rhode Island for the second most populous city in the New England states.

One of the main attractions in Worcester is the Worcester Art Museum, which houses over 35,000 works of art. Among the many highlights, the Museum’s exhibits include works by Cezanne, Gauguin, El Greco, Monet, Picasso, Rembrandt, Renoir, and Van Gogh, as well as Asian and Greco-Roman art from the ancient world. The Museum also puts on classes for both adults and children.

The Worcester Art Museum is closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and major holidays. There is a special FREE admission to all visitors on the first Sunday of each month from 10am to 4pm.

5 Most Unusual Places in the World

47

The world boasts some fascinating places with many weird and wonderful sights that are so different, so strange, so unexpected that they could almost be from outer space. Many of the strangest sights are tucked away in remote places. These are 5 most unusual places in the World!

Most Unusual Places in the World- Rotorua

Rotorua, New Zealand

The town of Rotorua in New Zealand is known for its geothermal activity, which turns an ordinary city into something very weird. Around the town itself steam can be found rising from the ground creating a very eerie sense, while a little further afield in the geothermal parks boiling mud pools take the visitor back into per-historic times of another world. Steam rises from yellow lakes of sulphur with the smell occasionally overpowering visitors to the geothermal spa bathing waters. Geysers spurt their superheated steam into the scene from another world and strange red and orange deposits crust on the edges of lakes punctuated by fumaroles releasing trapped gases.

Most Unusual Places in the World- The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles, Western Australia

The Pinnacles in Western Australia are located in the Nambung National Park some 250 kilometres from Perth. Rising from the sandy desert floor these fascinating limestone formations poke up in different shapes, both in isolation and in clusters, covering a relatively small patch of desert that can be viewed in a 4KM drive or shorter loop walk. The existence of the rocks has puzzled geologists who cannot agree upon the exact method of formation, nor explain why they appear where they do. At sunset, the area is particularly transformed into something from another world as the light captures the shapes of the rocks turning them into one of the weirdest places on earth.

Most Unusual Places in the World

White Cliffs Opal Fields, New South Wales, Australia

The opal mining town of White Cliffs in New South Wales boasts some of the best “moonscape” scenery on the planet, where rolling white mounds of Mullock heaps from the opal mining process stretch for miles into the outback. It is definitely one of the unusual beautiful places in the world! Also, One of the few “other world” places not created by natural processes, the White Cliffs opal fields blends perfectly with the flat arid outback to create remote lifeless void of another planet. Many moonscape and Martian movies have been shot in the wastelands of the outback.

Most Unusual Places in the World - Pamukkale

Pamukkale, Turkey

Pamukkale in Turkey’s Inner Agean region is one of the crazy beautiful places in the world with its unique white rock terrace formation some 2.7Km long, 600m wide, and 160m high made from hot springs depositing calcium carbonate material. The brilliance of the rock is amazing creating a stunning spectacle of terraces holding 17 hot water pools attracting visitors from all over the world for bathing and sightseeing. With the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis, there is plenty to discover about this place from another world.

Most Unusual Places in the World

Hell’s Door, Turkmenistan

Hell’s Door, also known as the “Gate” or “Derweze”, is one of the most extraordinary places in the world! It is located in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan an area with huge natural gas deposits. Hell’s Door is a vast crater surrounded by desert. It is some 70m in diameter made by a mining company in the 1970s when a drilling rig collapsed. The crater is no ordinary one, but is alight with brilliantly burning gas first ignited in the 1970s to burn off poisonous gas released from the mining accident. Due to the vastness of the gas deposit it is still burning today with fire orange and red hues that make this a place from another world.

These natural and human-made sights are just some of the most unique places in the world that look like they don’t belong here. Find other intriguing sights at UnusualPlaces.org for some of the most unique travel destinations in the world.

When I was little we didn’t have VCRs, DVDs, Disney+, or an abundance of Disney movies. We waited until they came on Walt Disney World on a Sunday or when one was available to see in the theatres. I remember having a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs record and I would play it on my record player, one side was the songs and the other side was the story. Snow White has always been my favourite next to Tinkerbell.

Peeps S’mores Recipe

Make Easter more extraordinary with s’mores made with peeps marshmallows. This recipe for Peeps S’mores is easy to make and you won’t even have to be outside by the fire pit to make this cute Easter dessert.

Peeps S'mores recipe

I know many who are not big fans of Peeps because they are really sweet; however, there are enough people out there buying them that they will always be around during Easter time. For most when it comes to Easter treats it is usually all about the chocolate, but adding in Peeps S’mores makes it so much more fun and colourful.

Easy Easter desserts

The first time I ever used peeps in my desserts was when my daughter was little. I made a cake and just put the peeps all around the sides of it.

Peeps S'mores

Peeps come in either bunnies or baby chicks and are very bright in colours of pink, yellow, purple, and blue, which can make some fun themed spring and Easter desserts.

If you love Peeps and are looking for ideas for using them to bake with, here is a list of 11 easy Easter desserts using Peeps:

  1. Colourful Peeps Rice Krispie squares
  2. Peeps Cake pops
  3. Easter Dirt Cake
  4. Peeps Pudding cups
  5. Peeps Popcorn balls
  6. Easter Peeps Cupcakes
  7. Peeps Sunflower cake
  8. Birds nest with Peeps
  9. Peeps Milkshakes
  10. Layered peeps dessert
  11. Skillet Peeps S’mores

Lastly, if you decide you want another easter treat idea, all you have to do is melt some chocolate in a fondue pot and dip in the peeps to have chocolate covered Easter peeps. Add some sprinkles or other candies to make it a fun Easter dessert.

Melting Peeps

Making desserts with peeps is pretty easy and melting them is the same as regular marshmallows. The only difference will be the texture since Easter Peeps have a colourful coating of sugar but the same gooey goodness inside.

No matter what Easter dessert idea you use, it will be a fun family Easter full of peeps.

7 Tips and Tricks When Designing Your Toddler’s Room

Taking care of a toddler is one of the most challenging stages of motherhood. It is the time when our little ones start to walk and explore the world around them. However, their curiosity can sometimes put them at risk, which is why as a mother, we must look after them and keep them safe at all times.

There is no room for error. Even the slightest mistake can cause a huge problem. Therefore you better be cautious and vigilant when it comes to taking care of a toddler, including designing their room and making it toddler-proof.

Here are some design tips suitable for toddlers that’ll put your mind at ease.

7 Tips and Tricks When Designing Your Toddler’s Room

1. Separate a Place for Learning

Toddlerhood is where your kids start learning things taught at their preschool. They become interested in colouring, doodling, and even completing puzzles. Hence, you must create a small separate space where your toddler gets to learn and do academic stuff in one place.

Place a kids table and chair set in that area to give your toddler added comfort while learning. They will still be able to use the table and chairs you set up when they officially join the school.

2. Child-Proof the Entire Room

Since it is your toddler’s room, you must ensure that no matter what your toddler is doing inside it, they will be safe. So, it would be best if you never forgot to childproof the entire room and your entire home as well. Use door knob covers to protect your little one’s head from bumping into it.

You should also install soft floor tiles to provide a soft landing spot for your overactive toddler. This way, you can rest assured that your child will land on a soft floor when they fall.

Moreover, ensure that your toddler is safe and protected against electrical dangers. That is why you should also make sure that you keep electronic products away from your child’s reach. Do this by placing them high enough so that your toddler cannot easily grab them.

Install a shelf to keep some items away for your kids or hide them inside a drawer that your children could not open by themselves.

3. Keep the Design Simple

When it comes to a toddler’s room, always remember that the simpler, the better. Keep the decors simple and add furniture at a minimum.

This way, the room will have more space for your toddler to play, crawl, roll and walk around. Simplicity will also create a neutral canvas that you can update once your child grows.

You have to keep in mind that toddlers need a vast space to let them wander around and feed their curiosity. Having a lot of furniture inside your toddler’s room will only put them at risk of bumps and scratches.

4. Choose Vibrant Colours

When designing a toddler’s room, you should use a vibrant colour scheme to ensure that it will capture your little one’s attention. Toddlers love colourful things, which is why making their room colourful will give them a sense of comfort.

You must use your child’s favourite colour to make them more interested in staying in their room. Choose at least three colours to combine in the room. You can incorporate the colour on the bed sheet, rug, wall paint, accessories, and even the floor.

Consider using colourful wallpapers for your little one’s room. It has also been reported that bright colours stimulate your child’s brain. It is why choosing a vibrant colour palette for your child’s personal space should be one of your design priorities.

5. Use Smart Shelving

Open shelves are the best storage option for a toddler’s room. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but it will also keep things out of the reach of the child. You can store books and any decors on these open shelves.

Smart shelving is also cost-efficient compared to closed cabinets. Moreover, since open shelving is installed on the room wall, you can now have a bigger space for your kid to play.

Not only is smart shelving the new trend of storage this year, but it can also provide a great aesthetic value to your toddler’s room. But when choosing this type of storage space, you must constantly organize your child’s stuff since there will be no doors to cover any clutters.

6. Make it Playful

Toddlers love to play all the time. So, when you are designing your toddler’s bedroom, you must always keep that in mind. Allocate a space where all of the fun happens. Place the toys in that spot so that when your little ones want to play, they know where to go.

You can add a ball pit or a swing in this area to make it more enticing for kids. Or, you can give them colourful puzzles to stimulate their brain during play. The undeniable benefits of puzzles for toddlers will surely help your growing child while keeping them entertained in their room.

Aside from allocating a play area in your child’s bedroom, you should also consider making their bed look playful. You can use a whimsical bed frame and fill their bed with their favourite stuffed toys. Your little one will surely love their room if you follow this tip.

7. Careful Usage of Textures and Patterns

Both textures and patterns are vital elements in designing. A pattern allows you to add energy, interest, and contrast to your design, and when done correctly, patterns bring a room together and add depth to your space.

On the other hand, textures are a vital piece of interior design because it influences how a room appears at first glance.

So, your design will have more aesthetic value if you use patterns and textures. But make sure to incorporate them carefully into your design theme. By doing so, you can turn a dull room into something incredible that you and your toddler will surely love.

Conclusion

You can jumpstart your child’s independence by giving them their own space where they can be who they are and do what they want. With the tips above, you’ll have no trouble designing their space. Start designing their room now and see how they will enjoy it!

5 Productivity Hacks For Working Moms

0

Juggling home and work life isn’t easy, and if you’re one of those who live through it on a daily basis, here are some productivity tips for working moms to make things easier for you. Keep reading to discover 5 productivity hacks that help you, as a working mom, function better, hit your goals, and have a loving relationship with your little one!

Productivity Hacks For Working Moms

Best productivity hacks

These are the top productivity hacks that will help you the most as a working mom.

1. Find the Meaning in the Mindless

One of the best ways to be more productive is to make everyday chores a choice. Find the meaning in the small things that you do, and soon enough, you’ll actually do them without cribbing about it. Doing this also makes you feel more in control and motivated in general, which in turn, makes you more productive and happy.

2. Exercise

Wait what? Yes, you read that right! Exercising daily can actually make a huge difference in your energy levels and can super boost your productivity. Instead of making exercise a task, think of it as a reward for yourself for doing so much. If you wake up feeling exhausted, exercising for a short while can make you feel more active and ready to take on the day.

3. Define Productivity

No-productivity doesn’t mean spending every single second that you’re awake in rushing around, doing things to make the ‘best use’ of your time. Productivity is more of spending more time doing things that actually matter, and are on your priority list, and if you haven’t made one already, now’s the time to do it.

4. Visualize Before you Start

Studies have shown that one of the best ways to achieve your goals and stay motivated throughout the process is to make it a point to visualize your day the night before, thus winning and accomplishing everything that you have on your to-do list. Spending just 10 minutes doing it right before you hit the bed or even the first thing in the morning, can make a huge difference.

Imagine yourself having a wonderful day at work, gliding through it without any issues and coming back home with a smile on your face, spending some time with your little one, getting him ready for bed- you get the drill.

5. Set Smart Goals

Set smart goals, preferably smaller ones, so that you are able to get done with them quicker, and feel better about yourself too.

Yep, cross off those goals that make you feel bad about yourself. Ditch the ones that you know will interfere with your happiness and get in the way of your important ones. Goal setting should ideally make you feel more happy and charged, and if looking at them makes you feel anything less than what you actually are, cross them off your list.

Productivity Hacks For Working Moms

These 5 productivity hacks for working moms will help with being more productive during the day and enjoy your time better with your kids when you are home.

What to Pack in a Carry-on Bag

0

Just as planning a trip on an airliner takes time, so does organizing a carry-on bag. The more time spent in preparing a carry-on bag, the smoother the flight will be. Because flying can be stressful, it’s important to make a flight experience as pleasant and relaxing as possible. You will find tips below on what to pack in a carry-on bag.

What to Pack in a Carry-on Bag

What to pack in a carry-on bag

One way to have a more relaxing flight is to have an organized carry on bag. For example, a few dollar bills for tips should be in easy reach, along with identification items such as a passport or photo ID so you don’t have to search to the bottom of your bag when these items are needed.

The Functional Carry-on Bag

  1. Consider size: Although some carry-on bags have wheels and are easy to pull through an airport, they usually don’t fit underneath a passenger seat, as required upon takeoff and landing. Larger bags can be placed in an overhead bin; however, it’s much easier to pull out items from a bag underneath a seat than to stand up to pull out a bag to only to put it back when the plane is ready to land.
  2. Sturdy shoulder bag: bags are ideal carry-on; however, don’t select one that will place too much strain on your arm or shoulder.
  3. Bag lining: Select a carry-on bag with a light-coloured lining so it’s easier to see what’s inside while on the plane.

What Not to Pack in a Carry-on Bag

Check the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) or the TSA in the US to be sure not to have any items in your carry-on bag that aren’t allowed. Also, don’t pack newspapers and magazines you probably won’t even read. Just one newspaper or magazine can be heavy and take up too much room in a carry-on bag. Therefore, it’s a good idea to cut out only those articles you plan to read on the plane.

Toiletries to bring in a Carry on Bag

Taking Medicines and Toiletries in a Carry-on Bag

Often people who fly experience sinus headaches or nausea, so it’s wise to pack medications. When on an overnight flight, don’t forget basic items you use upon awakening. For example, pack a small travel tube of toothpaste and toothbrush. Baby wipes are good for refreshing your skin. Women can include a small Ziplock bag of makeup.

Packing Food for a Flight

Because most domestic airlines don’t serve meals, it’s a good idea to carry some food items in your carry-on on a flight. Protein bars are excellent choices, as they’re small yet provide energy. Also, carry an empty water bottle; although passengers aren’t allowed liquids at the security screening, they can bring an empty water bottle to fill with water after passing through security.

clothes rolled in a carry-on

Clothes to Pack in a Carry-on Bag

Because planes are usually cold, include a pair of wool socks that are easy to slip on while in flight. Changing into a lightweight shirt or blouse helps refresh passengers on overnight flights. Also, sometimes extra tops are essential in the rare occasions when getting sick from eating too late at night. How to pack all your clothes in a carry-on? Roll your clothes in your carry-on as this will actually help to pack more clothes and with not having wrinkled clothes.

Taking Crafts on a Flight

Crafts such as needlework and knitting are pastimes for calming down nerves, but thought should go into how to pack them. For example, take smaller knitting projects such as a small ball of yarn and pattern for knitting socks. Coloured pencil artists can draw on board a plane, but need a colouring book or a piece of paper and a pencil bag for the pencils which will take more room in your carry-on suitcase.

What to Pack in a Carry-on Bag

How to pack a carry-on bag

Finally, don’t wait until the day before the trip to pack your carry-on bag. It usually takes a few trial runs and making lists before knowing just what needs to be packed and left behind, as well as how items should be packed in a bag. The more organized you make your carry-on bag, the more enjoyable your flight will be.

These tips on what to pack in a carry-on bag should definitely be useful when travelling on your next trip!

Easter Food Traditions Worth Trying

1

Easter celebrations have traditionally been around our family dinner table. Food has a comforting way of bringing families together and a celebration of the Resurrection of Christ can be a great festival around the dinner table. So, the question then comes as to which food to serve at Easter? Lets have a look at some Easter food traditions!

a colourful and festive Easter table decoration

Easter food menu

In a traditional Jewish celebration of the Passover, lamb is the meal of choice. Symbolizing God’s promise to the chosen people, a lamb was cooked and eaten, and the blood of the lamb was spread over the doorway to keep the family safe. God promised to the Jewish people that if the blood was on the door posts, He would pass over them and keep their first born children safe.

Easter food traditions: Easter Dinner

Today, most people serve a ham as the traditional feast for the Easter dinner table. Ham is easy to prepare and has for many become the one and only food to serve at the dinner table for Easter Sunday. Add to that a potato dish from scalloped potatoes, Twice Baked Bacon Potatoes, or Homemade Creamy Mashed Potatoes, and you have the perfect main course for the Easter feast. Easter signals to us the beginning of springtime, so cooks typically add spring vegetables to the dinner ranging from asparagus to green beans. Because this is a celebration, we typically see rich foods accompanying the main course.

Other alternatives to Easter dinner can include crispy turkey with all the fixings, or a prime rib of roast beef. Both of these entrees can bring with them different side dishes ranging from pasta salads to green salads and a variety of vegetable choices including corn, beets, peas and carrots, as well as cauliflower with cheese sauce.

carrot cake coffee cake

Easter food traditions: Easter Desserts

Desserts too are very festive and signal the coming of the spring and summer seasons. I always thought that making coffee cake looked so difficult to do, but it is actually fairly easy to prepare and so tasteful! You can also add carrot to the coffee cake and your favourite nuts. We make this Carrot Coffee Cake Recipe every year for a traditional Easter food we serve our guests for dessert.

Fresh fruit typically fit into the pattern of Easter desserts with some form of chocolate and lots of whipped cream! Sponge cake or pound cake smothered in raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries, topped with whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate can be one form of dessert. Fruit pies topped with whipped cream or ice cream can be another option. Still, one can also see a warm pot of chocolate and strawberries, bananas, oranges, and more ready to be dipped and devoured.

Easter Eggs in Encanto

Did you know that throughout the movie there were hidden Easter eggs and why are they called eggs? While they are not exactly eggs, if you are looking for them, you will notice images and messages hidden throughout the movie. You may see Bruno hiding in the shadows, butterflies, or flowers that represent something in this movie, or a reference in a song about another Disney show.

Keep an eye out when you are watching the movie and see what eggs you can find. This will make a fun game with Easter eggs to play during the movie. Make sure to keep count of the ones you find and compare once the movie is over.

The free printables will get you started with your Easter decorations.

How to Make Dye for Easter Eggs

There are a couple of ways to dye your eggs. The first one uses natural food ingredients like beets, turmeric, grape juice, carrots, and anything that will stain the eggshells. All you need to do is boil the ingredients of your choice until the colour you want is achieved.

The other way to dye Easter eggs is using food colouring. There are many different colours available to use and they are easy to mix to make a new vibrant colour. Once you decide on the colours you want, just add a few drops to your water stir and you are ready to dip the eggs to dye.

Now that you have these fun egg decorating ideas, all you need to do is upload the SVG files into your design space and you are ready to decorate for Easter.

Materials needed for Cricut craft

Ingredients for dying easter eggs

  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • Food Gel Dyes – avocado green, violet, and sky blue, but you can used your favourite Easter colours.
  • 3 Mason jars
eggs boiling in a pot

How to dye eggs

Place eggs in a pot with water to cover. Bring to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes.

Turn off heat. Use the hot water from the eggs for dying eggs. Add two drops of each colour to a mason jar then one tablespoon vinegar and pour in the hot water to fill 3/4 of the Mason jar.

How to dye eggs

Run cold water over the eggs and let them cool for about 10 minutes. Place the eggs in the dye and rotate them with a spoon until eggs are desired colour. Set aside to dry.

How to make stickers with cricut

For these, I used a flower SVG and a SVG for “We don’t talk about Bruno”.

First, upload the bruno SVG to Cricut design space. Once it’s loaded, size it to 2″ and then cut on vinyl setting. Place the black Oracal vinyl onto the mat and cut.

Remove from mat and use reverse weeding for small lettering. You can find videos on youtube how to do this.

Place it on the egg and slowly remove the transfer tape making sure the design sticks.

Next, load the flower SVG into Cricut design space. Once it is loaded set it to cut on vinyl setting. I cut flowers on the yellow, pink, and red vinyl.

For these, do not use transfer tape. Simply use the weeding tool to lift the flower from the sticker backing and pressed it to the egg.

Instructions

    HOW TO DYE EGGS

    1. Place eggs in a pot with water to cover. Bring to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes.
    2. Turn off heat. Use the hot water from the eggs for dying eggs. Add two drops of each colour to a mason jar then one tablespoon vinegar and pour in the hot water to fill 3/4 of the Mason jar.
    3. Run cold water over the eggs and let them cool for about 10 minutes. Place the eggs in the dye and rotate them with a spoon until eggs are desired colour. Set aside to dry.

HOW TO MAKE STICKERS WITH CRICUT

    1. For these, I used a flower SVG and a SVG for “We don’t talk about Bruno”.
    2. First upload the bruno SVG to Cricut design space. Once it’s loaded, size it to 2″ and then cut on vinyl setting. Place the black Oracal vinyl onto the mat and cut.
    3. Remove from mat and use reverse weeding for small lettering. You can find videos on youtube how to do this.
    4. Place it on the egg and slowly remove the transfer tape making sure the design sticks.
    5. Next, load the flower SVG into Cricut design space. Once it is loaded set it to cut on vinyl setting. I cut flowers on the yellow, pink, and red vinyl.
    6. For these, do not use transfer tape. Simply use the weeding tool to lift the flower from the sticker backing and pressed it to the egg.
    7. Apply the flowers all over the Encanto Disney Easter eggs.

12 Easter Egg Hunt Ideas for the Family

    0

Looking for some fun, easy, and inexpensive ideas to make your Easter Egg Hunt the best one in town? Look no further!! So you’re in charge of the neighbourhood Easter Egg Hunt or just a family and friends Easter egg hunt? Here are some creative ideas for making it the best egg hunt around!

Whether you are religious or not, an Easter egg hunt can be fun for all ages, and a great addition to any family Easter get-together – whether little children are involved or not. With a little ingenuity, Easter egg hunts can be a lot of fun and made more challenging.

Children having fun in park. Easter egg hunt.

    Unusual Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

Tired of the same old, same old Easter egg hunt? Here are quick ways to make it more unusual and interesting. It is a lot easier than you think!

There are as many ways to spice up an Easter egg hunt as there are people. If you don’t feel like planning it yourself – and you like the idea – you can give the task to kids who will be participating. You might just be surprised at what they can come up with! It may then just turn into a family tradition that they look forward to every year.

    1. Easter egg hunt invitations

Be creative! Have your kids help make Easter egg hunt invitations shaped like bunny ears by using white cardboard, pink paper (printed with info) for the centres, and white cotton balls around the edges. An egg-shaped invitation would be cute, too. No time? Order cute Easter invites online.

    2. Eggs-tra Special Fillings

What kinds of things can you use to fill Easter eggs? Chocolate foil eggs in different candy varieties are of course a must, but get expensive when filling many eggs. Make sure to have lots of bags of jelly beans and other more inexpensive unwrapped candy that fill lots of eggs. Other creative things to stuff Easter eggs: Easter stickers, sassy note, loose change (yes! now’s the time to get rid of all your spare change!) and cute tiny treasures work really well for filling lots of eggs. You can even buy them already filled! Get as creative as you’d like. You can even use notes to turn it into a true Easter scavenger hunt.

    3. Offer unique prizes!

Ok, most Easter egg hunts offer prizes; however, you can offer unique prizes such as movie passes, tickets to a local sporting event, or gift certificates to restaurants. By offering a variety of prizes that keep in mind the ages of all of the participants, you can make it fun for both young and old.

    4. Add a few real hard-boiled eggs for good measure

A few people would disagree with this (what happens if they aren’t found???), but including hardboiled eggs as well adds some variety to the hunt. They are also great snacks! Let’s face it; most people don’t eat a lot of hardboiled eggs any other time of year (no matter how good they may be). Just be sure to get a good count on the number of hardboiled eggs hidden and ensure all are found before the end of the hunt. You don’t want a rotten egg smell permeating your home or yard.

    5. Ready Get Set GO! Easter Egg Hunt

Children don’t necessarily need the traditional Easter basket, but you’ll need to give them something in which to collect their Easter goodies. Clear plastic treat bags work well, or you could simply set up a brown paper bag-decorating area with stickers, stamps, markers, etc., and Easter grass…. if you don’t mind vacuuming it up for the next few weeks! Kids should write their names on their bags so you can tell them apart later.

    6. Team up

If you have enough people at your Easter celebration, you can easily form teams for the Easter egg hunt instead of having everyone go solo. This tends to make it more competitive and more fun. Be sure to select your team members carefully! This certainly can add a strategic element to the game.

    New Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

Adults often seek out new Easter egg hunt ideas that will liven up the common event of hiding plastic candy filled eggs or hardboiled coloured eggs for children to find. There are many ideas that can add more excitement to the traditional Easter egg hunts.

    7. Themed easter egg hunt

In addition to everything listed above, you can incorporate a theme into your prizes, the Easter egg hunt itself (you can turn it into a scavenger hunt if people are interested, and that lends itself more easily to a theme), or you can make the object of the hunt to guess the overall theme. If you take a little time to plan it out, it can be easy to do.

Easter egg hunt theme ideas can include hardboiled and/or plastic eggs, or they can be completely omitted by just hiding items of a specific theme. These types of themed egg hunts can also be used for other children’s events such as birthday, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day parties.

Examples of themed Easter egg hunt ideas would include:

    • Sponge Bob Square Pants
    • Barbie and Friends
    • Disney characters
    • Unicorns
    • Animals
    • Sports
    • Colours
    • Shapes

    8. Christian easter egg hunt ideas

An Easter egg hunt is a perfect time to help teach children about the bible. Along with candy, plastic eggs can be filled with bible verses written on a piece of paper. Other items that could be hidden in these kinds of egg hunts include plastic animals symbolizing Noah’s arc, bible storybooks, and other related things.

Set of colourful painted Easter eggs

    9. Colour Easter Egg Hunt

Purchase equal amounts of different coloured plastic eggs and divide them into sets of colours. Divide the candy and tiny trinkets up equally for the amount of children who will attend the Easter egg hunt and fill the coloured eggs. Assign a colour of egg to each child so they all receive the same amount of candy and trinkets.

    10. Golden Egg Hunt

This is an egg hunt where there is one big prize. Fill plastic eggs with candy and add a note inside one egg that says “golden egg” and hide all the eggs. Give the child who finds the golden egg a prize.

    11. Treasure Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

Treasure egg hunts are thrilling for children that can read because they take kids on an adventure. Hide hints in numbered eggs that lead to a hidden treasure box full of prizes and goodies. The children search together in a group taking turns opening and reading the numbered Easter eggs that contain the clues.

    12. Easter Egg Hunt Game

Children love to hide the eggs themselves. This is a great game for a rainy day when the kids are stuck inside the house. Give the kids a basket, 12 eggs, and a package of candy. Let them take turns filling the eggs with candy and hiding them.

    Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

With just a little imagination, it really isn’t difficult to come up with numerous Easter egg hunt ideas that will add a twist to the original style of egg hunts. Most of all, it is all about getting together with friends and family to make sure the kids have a good time during an egg hunt.

You’re ready to host your Easter egg hunt now. Use these ideas and tips to customize the perfect Easter egg hunt for you, your kids, and your guests.

Don’t forget to bring the camera — you won’t want to miss the adorable pictures of smiling little kids in cute spring outfits in the green grass!! Have fun! You’re never too old for an Easter egg hunt.

Best April Fools’ Day Pranks To Play On Your Husband

    1

April Fools’ Day is a great time to inject a bit of fun and silliness into your marriage. What better way to show your husband your love than by playing innocent April Fools’ Day pranks on him?

11 Best harmless april fools’ day pranks to play on your husband

With a little creativity and a big sense of fun, you can play some good April Fools’ Day pranks on your hubby that will keep you both laughing all day long.

April Fools' Day Pranks To Play On Your Husband

April fools’ day pranks at home

    1. Put something yucky in his shoes. Good items for this prank are small Koosh balls (they feel yucky, but won’t make a mess in his shoes) or plastic party ice cubes (won’t melt and leave his shoes wet). Whatever you use, make sure that it’s easy to remove and won’t damage his shoes.

    2. Lace his shoes from the top down, so that the loose ends are closer to the toes of his shoes.

    3. Short-sheet the bed. This prank only works if he gets in bed before you do, of course.

    4. Pair all his socks with the wrong mates. Or alternatively, you could replace his socks with yours or the kids’.

    5. If he lays his clothes out the night before, use safety pins or tape to fasten the legs of his underwear together. You could take this a step further and do it to all of his clothes his pants, his shirt, and his jacket. If you’re handy with a needle and thread, you could even stitch his clothing shut with a loose whip-stitch to make it more difficult to get loose.

    6. If he works from home, replace his computer monitor with one made out of cardboard.

April Fools' Day Pranks To Play On Your Husband

April fools’ day pranks at work

    7. If he carries a briefcase to work, put something silly on top of his papers so that he will see it when he opens it. The grosser, the better – just make sure it won’t ruin his important paperwork! Try the old standby plastic dog poop or a rubber rat. If he doesn’t carry a briefcase, put it in his jacket pocket, or on the driver’s seat of the car.

    8. Before your husband leaves for work, change his computer, laptop, or cell phone background to a silly picture. Choose something that he would never in a million years choose for himself. If he’s a man’s man, go for fairies and unicorns or lots of pink. If he’s a serious kind of guy, your best bet is a silly animal photo or a funny comic. Look for something that’s the exact opposite of his personality. Your husband will be super surprise by this prank when he gets to work!

    9. As he is leaving for work, hug him and gently apply to his back a Post-it or a paper shaped as a fish with a tape that you have written “Kick Me” or “April Fool’s Day” on it.

April fools’ day pranks with food

    10. Replace the sugar he uses for his coffee with salt. (If he’s like many of us and needs coffee to start his day, make sure to have an extra cup of coffee handy with real sugar so he can get his caffeine fix. We want these tricks to be funny, not cruel!)

    11. Prepare his lunch and make April Fools’ Day tea party sandwiches by using store bought pound cake or angel food cake for the bread. Your husband will be fooled and pleasantly surprised by these sweet miniature layered cakes. You can also serve him a burger made with a cupcake, donut, coconut, and icing for condiments. This burger cupcake will make a fun April Fool’s dessert.

    Funny april fools’ day pranks

Remember that the most important thing on April Fools’ Day is to have fun and to keep your husband’s personality in mind. You want to “get him”, but you don’t want to upset him or ruin his day.

Make it a fun yearly tradition. But be prepared – payback can be rough! Have fun!

12 Travel Safety Tips for Travelling Abroad

    1

Exploring the world might have gotten you bitten by the travel bug! Travelling, whether solo, as a couple, or in a group, is a wonderful thing to do. Travelling abroad is a great way to meet new people, soak in the ambience of a new culture, and understand more about the world. It is also a great way to relax and get away from the stresses of the everyday world; however, when travelling there are times when you need to be on your guard and use your common sense. These are 12 travel safety tips for travelling abroad!

12 Travel Safety Tips for Travelling Abroad

Safety travel tips to keep in mind

When travelling abroad, these below travel safety tips will help keep you and your loved ones safe during your vacation.

    1. Money

Without money, you are not going to get far and if you lose it you are going to run into difficulty. Keep your money safe by using the split the risk rule and place your money in different locations. Keep some in a safe deposit box in your hotel, a portion in your purse or wallet, and in a fanny bag/purse which you can keep hidden under your clothes.

    2. Luggage

Losing your luggage is a nightmare. How do you survive without a fresh pair of underwear and your toiletries? The trick is not to take anything you cannot live or afford to lose. Keep your valuables in your handbag or carry-on bag. Why not buy your toiletries at your destination? This way you don’t carry extra baggage and you don’t have to worry about it getting lost or stolen.

    3. Food and Drink

Check out to see if there are things you should avoid consuming in the country you are planning on visiting. For example, in China tourists are advised not to drink tap water (even the Chinese people do not drink it), so make sure you get bottled water and undo the cap yourself first. Make sure to take a small First Aid kit with you as they are incredibly valuable if you get sick.

    4. Hostels

Hostels are a cheap alternative to hotels, but are hostels safe? Colourful, sociable and enjoyable, they can be a great place for thieves. Generally, you share a room with several people with nowhere safe to put your luggage. Things can go missing when your back is turned, through both guests and staff. If staying in a hostel, remember not to bring anything you can’t afford to lose or replace. Ask the hostel if there is a safety deposit box to store your valuables.

    5. Jewellery

Don’t wear a lot of jewellery on a vacation, it’s just asking for trouble. Wear simple and subtle items as too much will attract thieves.

    6. Pickpockets

Pickpockets can occur throughout the world. Ladies, keep your handbag in front of you and hold onto it. Never put it down on your ground or turn your back on it. Do not keep expensive valuables in it, nor your passport or flights home.

    7. Scams

Scams are a complete hassle and con artists can get you for amounts small and large. Transit scams go along the lines of this: you get into a taxi and tell the driver the name of your hotel. He tells you that it has closed down but can take you to another one for free or a low price. They then drive you to somewhere else, usually much further away, but charge you double the price. The hotels they take you to are usually grungy and pay a commission to the taxi drivers.

Whether it is transit, lodging theft, fraud or cards, you are likely to walk away although your wallets will be significantly lighter. If something sounds too good to be true, it’s not true. Be on the cautious side.

    8. Women travelling solo

If you are a woman travelling on your own, you are sure to enjoy yourself; however, it is best to be cautious. Some women will wear a wedding ring even if they are not married! Make sure to call home everyday to let people know where you are going and dress a little more conservatively. Do not wear flashy jewellery and make sure you stay safe.

    woman travelling solo

    9. Drugging

It doesn’t happen all that much, but whether you are a man or women, please be wary of friendly strangers offering to buy you a drink or dinner. There have been reports where victims have woken up a few hours later with all their valuables missing, and for women, being raped. Use street smarts here.

    10. Drugs

Drugs are something no traveller wants to get involved with, but they are found all over the world. Be wary of individuals, both native and foreign, asking you to hold or carry an item or piece of luggage onto the plane or other vehicle. This is a great way for them to smuggle drugs out of the country and if caught, it is you who has to deal with the consequences. Some countries, such as China and Thailand, have the death penalty when dealing with drugs.

    11. Insurgent Activities

At times there are ethnic, religious, or other types of conflicts going on in foreign countries that we wish to visit. Before you get onto purchasing the plane tickets, it is best to log onto the country’s embassy website to check if there are any restrictions or travel warnings you should be aware of.

    12. Health

It is always advisable to see your family doctor before going on holiday to see if you need any particular vaccinations.

12 Travel Safety Tips for Travelling Abroad

Holidays are generally a great way to get away from the dreariness of the everyday world, but to have a great time make sure you use your common sense, follow travel safety tips, and keep the above mentioned things in mind while travelling.

How to Reduce Dust Allergies in Your Home

People with house dust allergy recognize the symptoms, which range from mile to severe. Dust can cause itchy eyes, stuffy nose, and wheezing. As temperatures turn cold, people spend more time indoors, where they might be exposed to household dust mites, which can cause allergic symptoms. Although it is difficult to dust proof a house, specific housecleaning methods do help to reduce the allergens. You will find below tips on how to reduce dust allergies in your home.

Dust allergies: symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatments

Common dust allergy symptoms include a runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, and sneezing. The allergy can aggravate asthma, which is an inflammation of the airways and lungs. According the Mayo Clinic website, symptoms of asthma include wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and tightness of the chest.

    See an Allergist

People with allergies should see a doctor to pinpoint the cause of symptoms, and to get professional advice. Once allergy triggers have been identified, the Allergist may recommend avoiding environmental triggers to reduce exposure to the culprits. The doctor may recommend prescription or over the counter medication to control symptoms. An allergist may recommend allergen immunotherapy, which is a treatment that may take several months to be effective.

    How common are dust mites?

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, dust mites are the most common cause of allergy from house dust. House dust content may vary from house to house, but the most common triggers in dust include dust mites, cockroaches, mold and animals.

    What are dust mites?

Dust mites are microscopic creatures that belong to the family called arachnids, which is a class that also contains spiders, chiggers and ticks. Hardy dust mites multiply easily in warm, humid places with temperatures at, or above, 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Dust mites are not usually found in dry climates.

House Cleaning Tips to Reduce Dust Allergies

ACAAI recommends having the allergic person leave the house while it is being cleaned and for at least two hours after cleaning. If the house is being cleaned by an allergic person, a dust mask should be worn.

    Cleaning tips for dust allergies

    1. Remove carpeting, which can provide a haven for dust mites. Hard surfaces, such as hard wood or tile are easy to clean.
    2. Damp mop wood or linoleum flooring weekly.
    3. Encase bedding and pillows in mite proof covering.
    4. Vacuum regularly with a high performance vacuum with a HEPA filter or a central vacuum. Normal vacuums can throw dust back into the air. Vacuum the floor, furniture, and bedding.
    5. Clean all surfaces with a damp cloth. Remember to clean tops of doors, picture frames, windowsills and window frames.
    6. Wear a dust mask while cleaning.

how to reduce dust and allergens in your home

    1. No smoking. Do not allow smoking anywhere in the house, as it can aggravate allergies.
    2. Install a high efficiency filter on the furnace and air conditioning unit.
    3. Change the furnace and air conditioner as recommended. Change the filter a minimum of every three months.
    4. Leave the furnace or air conditioning fan on to create a whole house air filter that removes particulates.
    5. Keep the indoor humidity below 55 percent. Do not use vaporizers or humidifiers.
    6. A dehumidifier may be used to pull the humidity out of the air, reducing dust mites.
How to Reduce Dust Allergies in Your Home

Dust allergy is not necessarily a sign of a dirty house. In fact, the act of housekeeping itself can stir up the dust that causes allergic symptoms. Many of the substances in dust cannot be removed by normal cleaning methods. Even a very clean house can contain enough dust to cause symptoms in highly allergic people.

    Planning the Ultimate Disney Party

There are so many things you need to do to prepare for a party. You will need invitations, food, and, of course, decorations to go with your theme. With an Encanto theme, you will want to have a karaoke machine handy to sing some songs.

Make sure to print a couple of the Encanto banners to cover all areas that will be used for the party. One for where the main activities and food will be and one for where the movie will be viewed.

If it’s a birthday, have the Encanto movie playing so that the kids can take a break from activities to watch it for a bit throughout the party. I am sure most have already viewed it so they won’t have to watch it in its entirety during the party.

If it is a sleepover party, then the movie will be the last thing to be watched before the kids fall asleep. Set up an area with sleeping bags and pillows so that it is comfy for the night.

Make sure to have a snack station or two in the area where the movie will be seen.

    Why Moms Need Alone Time

    0

If you want to take care of your children, moms need to take care of themselves first. Moms need some time alone to rejuvenate, not think about parenting, and to avoid a parenting burnout.

    Why Moms Need Alone Time

Many moms feel a sense of relief, of calm, or even of gratitude when their children aren’t around. But there is another emotion that some of us feel as well and that is a sense of guilt. Some moms feel guilty when they feel such a sense of relief when their children start school in the fall, visit the grand-parents, or go off to camp. But as parents, we shouldn’t feel guilty. Being a parent is hard work and we all need a break every now and then.

Being a parent today is harder than ever before. Society is changing so fast and we constantly have to be worried about societal dangers waiting to face our children. Some children are also involved in more extracurricular activities than when we were growing up. Add children’s activities to parents’ busy work schedules and you undoubtedly have stressed out parents. What really matters is how we treat our children when they are with us!

    Successful parenting

Some parents fail to realize that successful parenting is about the quality time we spend with our children and not the quantity of time. Instead of moms feeling guilty for being relieved as soon as their children walk out the door, they should enjoy their time alone and use it as rejuvenation time. By getting that much needed break from parental responsibility, we are able to become refreshed and that will have a positive effect on quality time we spend with our children we then return home to us.

Why moms should take time for themselves

Moms also need to realize that their children will benefit from this time apart as well. Our children don’t need to be with us to learn and explore their world around them. They can learn and laugh and have fun when they are away from us just as well as when they are with us. Time apart from parents often increases children’s senses of independence and greatly improves their behaviour upon returning home, because they too need a break from us just as we need our break from them.

    Why Moms Need Alone Time

Children will take up as much time as a parent will give them, so it’s vital that a parent sets aside time to recharge and unwind to be the best parent one can be.

Being a single mom can be hard, and it can be even harder to get time to oneself. But, as the parent, it’s important to set some time aside that is free of children, not only for sanity’s sake, but to role model for one’s children that a healthy lifestyle means taking some “me” time. Here are some tips for making alone time a regular part of a parent’s life.

    Have Set Alone Time Everyday

When a baby is taking a nap is a good time to take time out for oneself, although in the early stages, a parent may be sleeping as well! As a child gets older and loses his naps, a parent can use that time as quiet time where the child can read or play in his room for a half hour to an hour depending on his age and temperament. The earlier a mom starts “alone time” and makes it part of the daily routine, the easier it will be for a child to accept it. It also teaches a child an important skill, which is learning how to play and fill his time on his own.

Explain the Importance of Alone Time

If the idea of “alone time” is new, talk to the child about how it’s important for the child to learn to “use his creative juices” to fill his free time. Make it sound exciting by explaining he gets to do whatever he wants (within reason of course!) with his time and he has the power to decide what games or toys he wants to play with. Talk about how it’s important for a parent to have time alone to think and do things that are needed for the parent to be a happy and functioning person. Explain how everyone wins when the parent is in a good and happy space.

Take Time to Do Something for Oneself

It can be tempting for a mom to use free time to do laundry, the dishes or other chores around the house. Resist the urge! Let the laundry sit and the dishes will be fine for a little while longer. A parent should spend the time on enjoyable and recharging activities. It can be simple things like watching a favourite TV program, reading a book, knitting, painting or listening to relaxing music. A mom could do something more active like a workout or yoga video, gardening or even dancing to one’s favourite dance tunes. Whatever brings a little joy to a parent’s life that is a healthy and fun thing to do, so make sure to make time for it on a daily basis.

A mom needs some “me” time everyday for at least a half an hour. Make it an established part of the family routine, and if it is a new idea, take time to explain to the children why it is important to have alone time. Chores will always be ready and waiting, so resist the temptation to use free time to clean up. Do something that is enjoyable, fun and/or relaxing and just go with it!

So go ahead and enjoy time to yourself when the opportunity arises and don’t feel guilty about it. Your children don’t feel guilty about being away from you. Take this much needed time to indulge in your favourite hobby, to go on a mom’s night out, or enjoy time with your spouse. Upon returning home, most likely your children will notice that you seem different; more relaxed and happier. And that will strengthen the bond between you and your children so much so that you will relish time alone in the future without the tremendous feeling of guilt.
