4 Tips To Improve Self-Awareness

1

Most people claim that they’re eager and enthusiastic to meet a lot of people in their lives. And so, many people nowadays are fond of joining meet and greet groups, adding as many friends and followers as they can on social media, or create multiple accounts on friendship websites to hopefully know a lot of people and gain some friends. But have you ever thought about trying to get to know yourself first before you get out there and try to know everyone?

Some of you may assume that you have a healthy sense of self-awareness. In reality, self-awareness is a skill that you need to continuously improve by doing the right habits and exercises. Becoming self-aware isn’t an ability that you inherit from your family. Instead, it’s a complex skill that you can only achieve if you intend to do so.

Meditation

What Is Self-Awareness?

Self-awareness is the act of paying attention to your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. It means observing and understanding all your emotions and thoughts instead of trying to fix or avoid them.

Being self-aware also means honoring your wants and needs so you can use them to establish your personal goals, dreams, and boundaries. To simply put, self-awareness is the habit of paying attention to your inner self.

How To Improve Self-Awareness?

As simple as the definition may sound, many people are still striving to achieve or even understand the importance of self-awareness. The greater your self-awareness is, the more you’re in sync with your emotions and actions, leading to better self-belief, confidence, and overall wellbeing.

For your guide, here are 4 tips to help improve your self-awareness:

1. Practice Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is the practice of keeping your attention to your breathing while you put your mind and body at ease. This method will make it easier for you to stay in touch with the present moment and concentrate on your emotions and thoughts without losing your mind in the process. Perhaps in the past, you’ve experienced being so engrossed in your thoughts that you lose track of the present. With mindfulness meditation, it’ll be easier for you to return your attention to the point of focus.

Mindfulness meditation is believed to release stress, boost your ability to concentrate, and open your third eye, which are all helpful in increasing your self-awareness. An article about third eye opening explained that people may feel more highly conscious with their emotions and moods. This makes it easier for them to settle on healthier decisions and choices in life.

Overall, practicing mindfulness meditation regularly will keep you in control of your thoughts and emotions without being completely lost, affected, or attached to them.

2. Write Down Your Emotional Triggers

You probably know how writing or journaling is beneficial and soothing for your mental and emotional health. You can use this habit to identify your emotional triggers and understand them better.

For instance, you caught yourself feeling mad, frustrated, or annoyed after another driver beat you to a particular parking space. When you’re still in the moment, the feeling of anger and frustration will dominate your body and mind, leading you to feel anxious and be in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

As you get home, you can write down this experience in your journal and reflect on why or how that certain situation has triggered your anger or annoyance. As you write these down, you’ll realize that perhaps the reason you’re mad or annoyed is that you felt defeated or you felt that you deserve that parking space. And so, you end up blaming the other driver.

But if you listen to the other side of yourself, perhaps the reason you’re annoyed is that you’re driving too slow or you’re too distracted while driving, leading you to miss the parking space. In this case, you’re taking full responsibility for your feelings.

To simply put, writing down your feelings will help you become more aware of your emotions, especially to both sides of yourself. Then, you can use this self-awareness to change or improve yourself for the better.

3. Ask And Listen For Other People’s Feedback

One of the best techniques to enhance your self-awareness is by asking people’s feedback about you. It’s pretty simple to ask numerous people their criticisms or opinions about you. The only tricky part is how you’ll handle it and ensure that you take it well with an open mind.

To make this easier for you, remind yourself that these criticisms, opinions, and feedback will help you know yourself more and hopefully use them to improve and become a better version.

However, don’t mistake this as letting other people define who you are. Instead, understand that asking for feedback is just the same as allowing people to personally and professionally evaluate you, and it’s up to you on what you’ll do with the information.

Before you run around asking other people’s feedback, make sure you’re also asking the right people who can be honest with you. It can be your parents, children, siblings, partners, spouse, best friends, or your boss. As you ask them for feedback, anticipate that not all their answers will be wonderful. There may be instances wherein you’ll feel bad, and that’s normal. You can thank them for their cooperation and use the information to create your plans for self-improvement.

4. Try New Experiences

Trying new experiences, exploring new things, and going out of your comfort zone can help you improve your self-awareness. When you try to do something unfamiliar or anything you never did before, it’ll make you respond in ways you never thought you’d do.

For instance, traveling alone will motivate you to know more things about yourself. Since you’re alone, you have no one else to depend on other than yourself and your skills. So, you’ll be forced to be more self-aware as you try to adjust to the new environment.

Another way you can step out of your comfort zone is by learning a new skill. Trying to learn a new skill encourages you to think and act in unusual ways. Whether it’s speaking a new language, playing a new instrument, or practicing a new dance, trying out new learnings and experiences is a powerful exercise for self-awareness and better mental flexibility.

Bottom Line

Developing and improving your self-awareness won’t happen overnight, and there may be times where you’ll fail and get back to your old habits and behaviors. But it’s normal since self-awareness is a lifelong journey.

Acknowledging people’s feedback, writing down your thoughts and feelings, and being bold in trying new things, you can work towards having a better and more developed self-awareness. If you’re still struggling to enhance your self-awareness, you can always choose to work with a qualified coach to guide you in this transformational process.

Tips for learning a new language through reading (for children and adults)

Children’s Books

Learning to read can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be if you begin with the easiest reading material. Children’s books have shorter content, basic vocabulary, and simple sentences. No matter your age, these books are a perfect way to learn the basics.

Parallel texts

Find books that are written in dual language. You will find there are translations written right below the sentence you’re reading. No need to have a dictionary handy. It will additionally let you see how the grammar rules differ and you can note similarities and differences.

It’s all About Quantity!

If you’re learning a new language, it’s all about quantity. The idea is to expose yourself to as much material as you can. You probably won’t take everything in a first and that’s ok just keep going. It’s more about practicing your contextualizing abilities and guessing what you’re reading about. Try to understand what’s actually happening overall. The more you know the quicker you will learn.

Read with intent

Just as you should try reading extensively, you should also try the technique of intensive reading. This means being actively involved with what you’re reading and absorbing everything before moving on. If you don’t understand something – underlining the words, dog-ear pages, or writing your visions to help.

Read from the Heart

When you love something, you want to know all about it. Whether it be music, cooking, or even gardening, there are a variety of multilingual books so no matter what your heart desires you will probably find books to help out.

Find and read the books in the language you are learning. This will help ensure you don’t get bored, as it’s not easy learning a new language and you might be tempted to give up. Keep going, it will get easier.

How To Explain Sex To Kids

0

Nervous, grossed out, embarrassed, remember when your parents had that sex talk with you? Well now it’s your turn…batter up! Let’s have a closer look at how to explain sex to your kids.

‘The birds and the bees’

When discussing ‘the birds and the bees’ make sure you are open and honest when you explain sex. And more importantly, gearing your language appropriately for the child. If they don’t know what you’re talking about, you are just wasting your breath. An eight year-old may not understand the same way a twelve year-old does. Also consider you may not be the best person for the job, for numerous reasons. Maybe your child relates better with an uncle or family friend. Just make sure you trust this person to get the job done.

"the birds and the bees"

How do I explain sex to my child?

Another factor to consider is what sort of details they need to know. My theory is your child should be comfortable enough with you, the parent, to ask questions about sex. You need to make sure they understand no question is stupid and that you are proud of them for asking because you see how ‘weird’ it can be.

Misinformation about sex often causes unnecessary anxieties and can lead to real trouble. You know your child, if their demeanor is shy in general, you may want to make a question box for them or have them e-mail you their queries. Especially initially, you don’t have to make them talk. Write down the answers for them and let them get used to the idea first. I cringe when I think back to all the misinformation my friends had about sex because their parents didn’t bother to explain sex or to communicate with them period. Yes, it can be embarrassing and ‘weird,’ but the more you talk the easier it is.

What age is appropriate to explain sex?

So what age is ‘appropriate’ to explain sex to kids? Each child has a different level of maturity and circumstance. Sally may be 9 years old, she’s home schooled, and underdeveloped physically. Her mom may not start talking to her about sex for another year. Whereas Maggy is 9 years old and already has her period, her dad has already brushed the subject with her. In general, you’d like to start the talk about ‘sex’ sooner, not later. For girls around the age of 10 is good, because they mature faster than boys. A year later would be just fine for the boys. By all means, if you child starts asking questions before that, make sure you let them know you are open for business. And whatever you do, don’t make a big deal about it. Be casual and to the point. Trust me on this one, your child will appreciate it.

I remember when me and my dad were in the car on the way to ringette practice and started talking ‘sex 101.’ By the end of the drive, I had plastered myself up against the door just praying we would get ‘beamed’ to the arena. But after that first ‘I wanna die’ moment, I started to relax. He was just talking matter-of-fact and not making a big deal about it. It eventually rubbed off on me and I realized it really wasn’t such a big deal. I even got to the point where I asked him a few questions.

How To Explain Sex To Kids

So when you’ve pinpointed that special day you are going to talk with your child about sex, mark it on your calendar and make sure you rehearse what you are going to say. Stay with the basics, be casual about it, and let your child know that it’s normal to be embarrassed and uncomfortable discussing it. But it’s very important they get the facts straight and you are willing to help them with that. It’s so true, the first step is always the hardest one.

Here is a compilation of some of the most common plumbing problems you will likely encounter in your basement.

Leaky Pipes

Leaky pipes can result in significant problems. They can cause damage to your home, ceiling, walls, furniture, and more and you will have to plan a home renovation even if you didn’t think about it. It also results in wastage of water and thus more water bill on your table. It might be challenging to identify the problematic pipe; however, by knowing the causes of leaky pipes, you can quickly call in a licensed plumber to help you resolve the issue.

What Causes Leaky Pipes?

There are several reasons why your pipe is leaking;

  • Seals are vital in keeping water flow in check as they are around all water connectors in your home. Broken or faulty seals give openings for water to leak out.
  • The improper installation of pipes because of the materials used or methods, hence leaking pipes.
  • Cracks in a fixture.
  • Temperature fluctuations cause pipes to contract and relax. When these changes occur rapidly, they can cause cracks on your line resulting in leaks.
  • Shifting pipes due to erosion, flooding, or any other event may shift plumbing connections causing a leak.
  • Damage on pipe joints.
  • Excess water pressure may cause undue stress on pipes, thus damaging them. In some cases, if the water pressure is extreme, then pipes might burst.
  • Unattended clogs may cause pressure build-up, which damages pipes.
  • Corroded pipes may also contribute to leaks. Corrosion takes place mostly with age. With pipes that are more than thirty years, you run the risk of having leaks. Replacement is crucial, especially if you see signs of corrosion on your pipes like rust.

How Can Leaky Pipes be Diagnosed?

When you see the following, then know that your basement is leaking;

  • Cracked and damp floors
  • Water bugs
  • Stained carpet
  • Stained or warped wood
  • Rust stains on pipes
  • Persistent mold and mildew smell.
  • Efflorescence; white chalky mineral deposits might appear on your wall.
  • Dampness or brown stain on walls and ceilings.

How to Fix Leaky Pipes

While you might get into the temptation of fixing the leaky pipe personally, it may work to your disadvantage since you may fail to recognize the root of the problem. Therefore, you should call professional plumbers near you to help you handle the matter.

Sump Pump Failure

A sump pump is crucial in draining off excess water from your basement; however, its failure can be a messy affair since it serves to keep your home safe from dampness and flooding. Therefore, monitoring your sump pump regularly is necessary, especially if you live in flood-prone areas.

What Causes Sump Pump Failure?

Several issues can contribute to the failure of your sump pump.

  • Electrical power outage.
  • Improper sump pump installation.
  • Overwhelmed pump.
  • Switch problems.
  • Lack of maintenance.
  • Frozen or clogged discharge lines.
  • Wear and tear of the pump coming with age.

How Can Sump Pump Failure be Diagnosed?

The first thing you will notice as an indication that there is a problem is a watery basement. More specific signs to direct you into checking your sump pump include;

  • Strange noise from the pump.
  • Excess vibration when the pump is running.
  • Irregular pump usage makes it more susceptible to wear and tear.
  • A pump that runs at all times.
  • Irregular sump pump cycling.
  • Visible rust.
  • Sticking motor or motor failure.
  •  Frequent power blackouts.
  • If your sump pump has lasted for seven years or more, then it is time to replace it.

How to Fix Sump Pump Failure

Some are related to the installation process when you consider the causes of a sump pump failure, while others appear technical. For a lasting solution, you need to reach out to professionals who will determine the precise cause of the problem. They will therefore work towards correcting it.

Flooding

Flooding is any homeowner’s nightmare. Flooding can cause a lot of damage in your basement, and it can also be hazardous. Pipes can burst and leak into your home, and flooding can cause mold and mildew to grow. Furthermore, it will cost you quite a good amount of money to fix the problem.

What Causes Flooding in the Basement?

There can be several causes of floods in your basement. They include;

  • Broken sump pump. Sump pumps are used to remove water from the basement in the event of heavy rain or flooding. If a power outage occurs, for instance, during a heavy rainstorm or flooding event, the sump pump won’t function properly. That can cause significant damage to your home.
  • Broken water pipe. Often, when a pipe breaks, other pipes in the home can be affected as well. Sometimes a broken pipe will cause water to leak through the walls and damage the drywall and insulation, but sometimes it can cause water to seep up through the flooring and into the basement.
  • Blocked drain. Drains are an essential part of the plumbing system in your house. They allow water to leave your home and take any waste with it. If you have a blocked drain, then it can cause water to back up and flood your basement.

How to Diagnose Flooding in the Basement

  • Inspect the walls and surfaces in the basement. If you see signs of flooding in your basement, the first thing you should do is locate the source of the flood. Look for watermarks on walls and other surfaces to see where the water is coming from. You can also use a flashlight to look for water coming out from behind walls.
  •  Watch out for sounds. If you start to hear water pouring into your basement even though you didn’t turn on the tap, it’s a good sign that your basement is being flooded.

How to Fix Flooding in the Basement

As soon as you notice that water is flooding your basement, call a plumber near you. It may cost you an average of $500 to $2800, depending on the extent of damage and the size of your basement.

Conclusion

A well-functioning basement is an asset as a homeowner. It is necessary to conduct frequent checks to ensure that everything, especially your plumbing system, is not faulty. If you notice any sign that could spell some damage, do not hesitate to reach out to a licensed plumber near you. After ascertaining the cause of the problem, they will fix it, saving you from more damage and expenses.

Activities For Toddlers To Do With Parents

0

Toddlers can wear parents out quicker than sprinting around the block. Parents need to build a repertoire of fun, everyday activities for toddlers to do and keep everyone happy and sane. Parents can plan activities for toddlers to do that will fill a day smoothly to make mom or dad and baby happy. Use these tips for parents to fully enjoy the magic of raising a toddler!

toddler at the library

Outings With Toddlers

There are only a few activities for toddlers to do more fun than going to the park. There are many benefits of outdoor play for toddlers. Toddlers have an innate need to run and climb. Find a local park with safe, appropriate activities for toddlers. Jungle gym type playgrounds with high, open areas are not for toddlers. Look for play areas dedicated to activities for toddlers. Most parks will have the intended age group of each play area posted.

Toddler Time at Library

Library storytimes make fun and educational activities for toddlers to do. Children love the books and many story times feature songs with steps and finger play for toddlers to do with mom. Look for a library that offers story times specifically for toddlers.

Toddler Playgroups

Toddlers benefit greatly from outings with other small children. Socializing with other small people from an early age is crucial, to learn the importance of social skills with peers and satisfy the need that all children have to visit with others close to their age and form friendships. Look for toddler playgroups.

Local playgroups can be found through newspapers, online, churches and other public gathering places such as libraries. One of the great things about becoming involved with playgroups is the combining of ideas for activities with toddlers from many parents. What one mom or dad doesn’t know about, another parent will. Also, sharing of child raising tips for parents is very helpful.

Just as a toddler needs to hone social skills and form friendships, so do parents. A mom or dad who stays home with a toddler all day can benefit beyond measure by creating a supportive network of mom or dad friends through playgroups. Activities for toddlers are exponentially more fun for everyone when shared.

Rainy Days Activities for Toddlers

Games, puzzles, dancing, playing instruments, and crafts can be fun activities to do with toddlers on a rainy day. These simple activities for toddlers to do at home will fill your days with love and laughter.

Games for Toddlers

Games for toddlers are easy, as they usually require few or no materials and can be played anywhere. Blowing bubbles for a toddler is a fantastic way to enjoy a nice rainy indoors. Encourage the toddler to see how many bubbles he or she can catch. This is usually an activity that mom tires of before the toddler! Puzzles make great activities for toddlers. Choose easy, chunky puzzles with few pieces to avoid frustration.

Toddler Music and Movement

Dancing is always a fun activity for toddlers to do with mom or dad. Recorded music can be used or toddlers and parents can sing and clap together to make their own music. Toddlers also adore musical instruments made for small children. Shakers, tambourines and small drums are terrific to have on hand.

Children enjoy listening to the varied sounds of different instruments. The toddler years are the perfect time to begin instilling an appreciation for music in a child. While the child shakes a tambourine or listens to music, encourage him or her to jump, roll, squat and twist along with the rhythm. This is as much fun for mom to watch as it is for the toddler to do.

Activities For Toddlers To Do

Toddler Arts and Crafts

Other great activities for toddlers to do are arts and crafts. Yes, this is messy, so be sure there is plenty of time to complete the activity plus the clean-up. However, art is important for toddler development. Art activities for toddlers help nurture self-esteem, develop fine motor skills and are just plain fun for children of any age.

Finger painting and handprints with edible materials is super fun for a toddler. Peanut butter, pudding, yogurt and coloured applesauce (like blueberry or strawberry) can be used. Be creative. Look in the pantry and fridge to find all kinds of things that can be used for this purpose. Mom and dad can paint, too!

Art activities for toddlers can also include bathtub crayons, tub paints, and foam soap, and supervised crayoning on paper (loose crayon pieces are a choking hazard).

Reading Books to Toddlers

Besides parental love, there is absolutely nothing more beneficial for a parent to give a child than a love of reading. Read a variety of books with your toddler every day. Toddlers love books with flaps they can lift and textured surfaces to feel. Try to branch out of baby board books as well and include picture books for preschoolers.

The best activities for toddlers to do with parents include to join toddler playgroups, play games, and read books to toddlers to make every day a good day. Among the best of tips for parents is to simply relax and enjoy watching a toddler develop and grow. This precious parent and toddler time fades all too quickly.

How To Prevent Bringing Bed Bugs Home From Vacation

1

Bed bugs are not the type of souvenir travelers would like to bring home from vacation. There is an increasing risk of bringing bed bugs home unintentionally from a vacation, as these insects have experienced a population explosion in the recent months. You will find below tips on how to prevent bringing bed bugs home from vacation.

How To Prevent Bringing Bed Bugs Home From Vacation

Where are Bed Bugs Found

Bed bugs are non-flying insects that live in cracks and crevices and especially love mattresses and bedding. They feed on human or animal blood. Bed bugs can be transferred in luggage, clothing, purses, and anything that has a small dark crevice for them to hide. Fortunately, there are preventative measures that travelers can take to minimize the chances of bringing home these unwelcome pests.

Check out Bedbugregistry.com

Before embarking on a trip, travellers can consult bedbugregistry.com to view hotel guest reports of where bed bugs were spotted in hotels across the country. This is an extremely valuable tool because it will give hotel guests a heads up so they can take preventative measures before arriving. If the destined hotel happens to be listed, call and see what preventative measures the hotel is taking to combat these insects.

Pack with Ziploc Bags

When packing for a vacation to an area that has had problematic bed bug infestations, Ziploc bags are a traveler’s best friend. Absolutely everything should be packed into Ziploc bags and kept sealed tightly in the bags for the whole vacation. One of the worst mistakes a traveler can make is to unpack their suitcases and stow their clothing away in the dresser drawers of the hotel without first being protected by tightly sealed Ziploc bags. Several places sell extra large Ziploc bags that will accommodate clothing.

Bed Bugs in Luggage

Hard-sided luggage with latches versus zippers is the recommended style of luggage to use to help in the prevention of transporting bed bugs. Soft-sided luggage is easily accessed by bed bugs and is not advised to use if traveling in an infested area. Light coloured luggage is better then dark coloured luggage and makes it easier to spot a bed bug if one happens to attempt to crawl in. Upon arriving at the hotel, leave all luggage outside of the room preferably in the car, or with concierge services until a bed bug check has been conducted.

Bed Bugs on Bedding

Checking the bedding when arriving at a hotel may or may not reveal evidence of a bed bug infestation, as they are nocturnal and are very good at secreting themselves away from searching eyes in minuscule cracks and crevices. Using a LED flashlight can be very helpful in checking for these tiny bugs. Pay attention in particular to the seams along the edges of the mattresses and the box springs, and check for tell-tale signs of bug casings and dried blood specks.

Can Bed Bugs Climb Tape?

One way to get rid of bed bugs is to use double sided tape. Bring a roll of light coloured tape when traveling and tape the legs of the bed with the sticky side of the tape facing out. The tape serves a two-fold purpose. The bed bugs can crawl up the legs of the bed, and this will help prevent them from being a bed mate. The tape also can trap the bed bugs on the sticky side, so there will be definitive evidence of an infestation in the room, and can be shown to management. Keep all sheets and blankets up and off the floor to prevent bed bugs crawling up the linens and invading the bed.

How To Prevent Bed Bugs When Travelling

Keep your personal possessions from the floor, sleeping areas and sofas or chairs. Hang jackets or dress clothing and stow suitcases on a luggage rack, taking care to wrap the legs of the luggage rack in tape, sticky side out. Another useful way to prevent bringing bed bugs home from vacation is to launder the clothes used on vacation in hot water and dry on high heat before repacking immediately into the tightly sealed Ziploc bags. High heat or intense cooling will kill bed bugs.

How To Prevent Bringing Bed Bugs Home From Vacation

How to avoid bringing bed bugs home from vacation? Most good hotels regularly conduct bug checks in their rooms and utilize local pest control services when needed. Unfortunately, bed bugs are difficult to eradicate in a hotel situation, due to the constant flow of guests from all over, who may unknowingly re-infest a location. By taking a few preventative measures, travelers can greatly reduce the risk of bringing bed bugs home from vacation.

7 Planning Tips to Implement Before Starting Home Renovation

1

Usually, home renovations are massive and expensive projects that require a lot of time and effort. That’s why so many people tend to postpone them to the last moment – until home maintenance issues start interfering with their everyday lives. Fortunately, you can avoid this scenario if you approach planning and organizing carefully and thoughtfully.

7 Planning Tips to Implement Before Starting Home Renovation

In this article, you will find seven planning tips you should implement before you start any home renovation project. They range from determining the budget, building a timeline, and hiring reliable contractors to creating layouts and obtaining necessary permits, among other things. Read on and make sure your house remodel runs smoothly!

Define Your Budget

The first step of any home renovation project is a careful cost analysis. The main goal here is to define how much you can afford to spend on the project and how much it will cost to complete. The best way to do this is to create a detailed timeline, which will help you determine how much money you need to invest at every stage of the project.

It’s worth mentioning that it’s also crucial to estimate unexpected expenses. For example, if you plan to add another bathroom or kitchenette, you should definitely include the costs of hiring an electrician, plumbing, and a plumber in your home renovation budget. You never know what kind of issues you might run into during the renovation process – so make sure you’re as prepared as possible.

Get Necessary Permits

Home renovations often involve work with electrical wiring, plumbing, etc., which means you will need to obtain necessary permits. However, it’s not enough just to get a permit – you must also notify your local inspector about planned construction.

This is especially important when you plan on doing major home renovations – for example, changing the structure of your house entirely or converting a big garage (standard double garage door size range between 10 to 16ft wide) into an additional living room. In this case, you should consult with a structural engineer who will tell you if your plans are compliant with building codes and regulations.

Build a Schedule and Stick to It

Building a schedule is crucial when it comes to home renovations. The timeline will help you estimate when and how long each part of the project will take, and it will keep you on track throughout the entire renovation process. It’s also important to consider other factors, such as holidays, weekends, etc. Besides, you should never forget that even minor home repairs can take more time than they initially seemed to take.

Now that you have a well-planned schedule in place, you must follow it until your reno is finished. That’s why it’s crucial to stick to the timeline and not give up on the project even when things get rough.

For example, if your contractor cannot finish the job on time, contact them immediately and find out what went wrong. If they fail to provide satisfactory answers, don’t hesitate to look for another contractor.

Hire Professionals

One of the most critical aspects of planning a successful home renovation project is hiring reliable contractors. You should choose contractors carefully based on their previous experience, reviews from previous clients, etc.

Ensure that you hire only those who have experience with similar projects and are familiar with all the latest building codes and regulations. Also, check whether they have a license for working in your state – it could save you a lot of trouble later on.

Create Layouts

Creating layouts before starting any home renovation project is extremely important if you want to complete it successfully and on time. To create layouts for your house remodel, you must first decide how you want your home to look like after the renovation is finished.

Then, use measuring tools, such as tape measures and extension rods to create floor plans and layouts for each room involved in the remodel. You can also use your computer or an actual blueprinting program or an interior design app to draw up layouts for each room and then print them out for future reference. This will help you keep track of all the changes made to your house during the renovation process and avoid making costly mistakes.

Create a Checklist

When it comes to home renovations, a well-organized checklist can be a life-saver. That’s why you should create a list of essential tasks to perform before starting any major home renovation project. This will help you stay focused and avoid missing necessary steps.

You can also create a detailed checklist for every room involved in the project, which will tell you exactly what to do and when to do it. Of course, it’s essential to follow the checklist carefully and not miss any steps. Otherwise, you might end up in a worse situation than you’ve begun with.

Ensure That You Have All the Tools and Materials Required

This tip applies mainly to minor home repairs – but it can also be helpful when planning major home renovations. Make sure you have prepared everything you need – tools and materials – before starting a repair project since it will save you a lot of time and effort in the process. You don’t want to interrupt the repair work because you ran out of tools or supplies – that’s why it’s essential to get everything prepared in advance.

For example, if you plan on installing new cabinets, make sure you already have all the tools necessary for the installation. This way, you won’t have to interrupt the project because you don’t have a specific tool – and that will save you a lot of time.

How To Plan A House Renovation Project

Final Thoughts

Planning and organizing are essential if you want to complete any home renovation project effectively. It will save you a lot of time and effort in the future and help you avoid mistakes that can cost you extra money.

The list of tips above contains everything you need to know in order to plan and organize a home renovation project before starting it. You should follow these tips to ensure that your project will be implemented successfully and in a timely manner.

How to Help an Introvert Child Survive in an Extrovert World

0

We live in the age of extroverts where everyone seems to be living the life of their dreams and being open about it on social media. And in such a fast paced environment, bringing up a child that’s an introvert may seem like an intimidating and concerning task. You will find below helpful tips to help and introvert child.

How to Help an Introvert Child

Introvert Versus Extrovert

What is Introvert? An introvert person is someone that is more comfortable focussing on his internal feelings, thoughts, and ideas. The introvert kid is more reserved, thoughtful, and a quiet individual. The child prefers spending time with 1 or 2 friends instead of with a large group of friends, and also limits social engagements.

What is Extrovert? Someone that is an extrovert is a person that is outgoing, expressive, and loves to talk. They are usually the life of the party. This person can be primarily concerned with the physical and social environment they live in.

6+ Tips to Help an Introvert Child

What if my child is an introvert? If you too, are a parent of an introvert, here’s a little help your way. Keep reading to discover some of the most effective and actionable tips and tricks on how to deal with an introvert child and help him survive in an extrovert world.

1. Understand the Biology Behind an Introvert Kid

Studies suggest that the brains of introverts are wired differently from that of extroverts, and that simply means that some of your child’s qualities are innate, although you, as a parent, do have a major role in influencing his temperament.

2. Cultivate His Passion

Children who are introverts tend to have a very strong passion for their own interests and ideas, and encouraging them to pursue those interests is a good way to go. Not only does it help them channel their creative energies, but also boosts their self confidence and helps them open up with other people who have similar interests.

3. Respect His Preferences

If you want to help an introvert child, make it a point to identify and respect your child’s preferences and not push him into doing things he doesn’t want to do. If you kid is comfortable with his two close friends, don’t push him into trying to expand and be a part of a different, bigger circle of friends.

4. Accept & Support the Introvert Kid

Feeling ashamed and denying that your child is an introvert will only make things worse. Instead, as a parent, accept it and help your child outgrow it, but in a gentle way, making sure not to force him in the process. Be your child’s support.

5. Be Gradual With Your Efforts

You may want to introduce your introvert child to new people and may encourage him to make friends and socialize with people of his age, but make sure you do it slowly and gradually. Doing it too fast is the simplest way to make things backfire- never force your kid to meet or talk to anyone.

6. Praise After a Social Risk

One way to help an introvert child is to praise after a social risk. One of the best ways to encourage your child to be more social and open up more is to praise him when he makes an attempt to do so, even if he turned out to be unsuccessful. Positive reinforcement, especially from a parent, can work wonders and help your child regulate his feelings better.

How to Help an Introvert Child Survive in an Extrovert World

7. Make Him Feel Heard

One of the most basic things you can do as a parent for your child, regardless of whether your child is an introvert or not, is to make him feel heard. Ask questions and make it a point to listen to what your child has to say. A lot of introverts tend to internalize their problems, which is why, helping them speak up is the best way to make them understand that their voice is important.

Bitten By The Travel Bug

0

There are those that watch and those that do any required action you can care to think of. From armchair quarter backs to in this case budding adventurers. People to some extent are born with a desire to see more than the square field around them. That is not to say though there is a specific age with which to uptake a more exploratory existence. It is never too late to get your feet wet with international travel and, in such case, to be bitten by the travel bug.

When it comes to planning your next adventure, you may wonder which is the best country to book flights while ensuring your online privacy and security. Utilizing a reliable VPN can be a smart choice to protect your personal information and access the best deals without any worries.

Bitten By The Travel Bug

What Is the Travel Bug

The travel bug figuratively means a strong addiction and desire to travel.

How To Get The Travel Bug

To get to travel bug is simple thing to obtain, but keeping it, however, can be more tricky. The period when you get back from a vacation is wonderful. Your head is full of beautiful images and experiences. For weeks and even months after it stays with you never far from thought. You think about all the other places you wish to see and visit. But then as it does to nearly all of us, life gets in the way. The daily grind has a nasty habit of eating up a lot of time. Before you know it, years have passed since your last vacation.

From this point, it is easy to just except that you had a great holiday and carry on with normality. To avoid and never settle for monotony again, make sure you book a trip if not once a year then once every eighteen months or so. That easy option feeling of staying at home will not take a hold of you in the same way before. Instead, you will have the best of both worlds. Appreciation of what you have and a hunger to explore the unknown. To be bitten by the travel bug for most is one fatal bite, the only known antidote is an injection of small town syndrome. And let’s be honest, everyone could live without that.

The first and best piece of advice regarding how to get the travel bug is simply to go. It gets no more complicated than that. Choose when you have available time and book a holiday to a destination that excites you. Do some research as to what to see and where to go when you arrive in the country of your choice. There is nothing worse than getting somewhere and taking on the characteristics of a headless chicken. Your time will be better spent seeing the sites you wish to and not getting bogged down in confusion. You have worked hard for your money, so put the same effort into knowing useful bits of information before you go.

Sampling Authentic Cuisine

Another good tip to follow, if you are brave enough is to immerse yourself more fully into the countries culture, is by sampling authentic cuisine. To know and taste what a region eats and likes is understand that much more of its people. Do not be one of the millions who search out one of the nearest fast food establishments upon arrival. It is a crude and uneducated way of conducting oneself. Be brave and try the foods on offer. No one says you have to love everything, but never trying is to rob yourself of an experience.

couple bitten by the travel bug

Bit By The Travel Bug

If you can take that first step to actually visit a new land, then the travel bug will bite you hard and fast. The sense of wonder that greets you at every opportunity when your senses see and hear new things is hard to ignore. The soul is enriched by these things, stagnation is the only thing you will experience if you stay inside your comfort zone. Even daily routines are enlivened as a result of a trip away from home. Not only do you appreciate where you have been, but also where you are from. It has a twofold effect. Familiarity really does breed contempt in this case.

Apple cider donuts have a delicious history that begins with a Russian immigrant who opened a chain of bakeries in New York. Glaze for Apple Cider Donuts

If you like a good finger licking glaze on your donuts, don’t worry! You can use this glaze recipe with the fall apple cider donuts and it tastes like a perfect match. I think you will agree that this recipe makes the best apple cider donuts!

HOW to STORE CIDER DONUTS?

Store cider donuts at room temperature in an airtight plastic or glass container, or in a ziplock bag. The donuts will keep fresh for about 2 days, afterwards, they will taste less fresh.

Can you Freeze Cider Donuts?

If you want to make them in advance, you can freeze them and pop out a few, as desired, for breakfast or just an awesome fall snack. It is best to freeze them without the cinnamon sugar because, when the donuts thaw, the sugar coating will be absorbed by the donut. Make sure they are fully thaw before tossing them in the cinnamon sugar. Store in a sealed plastic or glass container, or ziplock bag in the freezer for up to 2 months.

How to Reheat Apple Cider Donuts

You can put the homemade donuts in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds to soften them up. The cinnamon sugar might get absorbed, so you will need to coat them again.

How to Deal with Child Anxiety

0

Anxiety and stress seem to have become an inseparable part of our lives today, and what’s worse is the fact that it is affecting so many of the younger generation too. If you’re a mom of an anxious child who can relate to this, here are ways on how to deal with child anxiety.

How to Deal with Child Anxiety

1. Encourage Positive Thinking

A child with anxiety tend to get mentally stuck in the worst case scenarios that their minds have crafted. Help your little one get out of it by shifting their thinking patterns towards the more positive side, and by getting them to look at the silver lining of everything that may seem wrong at face value.

2. Try to Cope

How to cope with a child with anxiety? One of the most common mistakes that most parents tend to make is that they try to get rid of their kid’s anxiety desperately and do everything that they can, which only aggravates the problem and makes the kid feel bad about themselves. Instead, trying to help the child cope with anxiety and increase the tolerance can bring about a more positive change.

3. Help your Child Take Charge To Deal With Anxiety

How to deal with an anxious child? A lot of anxious kids respond well when they are allowed to take charge over some little things in their life. It helps them give that feeling of establishing control over their life, which can help them escape the victim mentality in a much easier way.

4. Don’t Avoid the Triggers

This may seem counterintuitive, but it actually works. Avoiding the triggers can only worsen the anxiety problem, and may have only short term benefits. Whenever your child has anxiety or feels anxious due to a particular situation, be there for them, but don’t remove them from the situation. Help your child develop their own coping mechanism.

5. Set Realistic Expectations to Help Your Child Deal with Anxiety

During an anxiety phase, you may be tempted to have your child unrealistic positive expectations. You may want to assure your kid that he won’t fall during their ice skating practise, but these false hopes may not last long. Instead, the next time your child is anxious, tell them that you won’t ask them to do something that they can’t handle.

6. Get your Child to Climb the Ladder

If your child is intimidated by a huge goal, help them break it down and process it in much better way by this technique called laddering. Simply have them break down the big thing into sizeable chunks, and give them a pat on the back for the step that they took to boost their confidence.

7. Stop Reassuring

During a phase of anxiousness, you may want to reassure your child, but make sure you don’t overdo it. Help them understand and evaluate his emotions, where they stem from, and encourage them to develop the quality of ‘letting go.’

How to Deal with Child Anxiety

I hope you enjoyed these ways on how to deal with child anxiety and some of the most effective tips and tricks to manage anxiety and stress in your child that will also help with toddler tantrums, and teach them to become more calm and relaxed.

Lemon Orange Ice Cream Recipe

1

During the heat of summer, even on a pleasantly mild afternoon, I love a chilled treat. Sometimes a creamy frozen concoction hits the spot. Often a burst of citrus does the trick. But on a special day, what I really love is combining the two. That’s what this lemon orange ice cream is all about. It’s not a sorbet and it’s not a sherbet. This is real genuine soft serve ice cream with a citrus base that is going to drive you wild.

Lemon Orange Ice Cream Recipe

Sherbet or Ice Cream?

Typically ice cream-related items made with fruit come as sherbets or sorbets. Sherbets of course being the ones that include milk. These are great but they are more fruit-focused and not as creamy as real ice cream. Ice cream only needs 10% milk fat to be labeled as such. Missing that mark it becomes classified as sherbet. Sorbet, on the other hand, contains no dairy. This delicious lemon orange ice cream contains much more cream, making it distinct among other citrus-based desserts. I enjoy the enhanced creaminess that contributes to the bright and tangy elements of the citrus juice. Since it’s made in an ice cream maker and churned during the freezing process, it’s distinctively different from sherbet; however, you may choose to freeze this lemon and orange ice cream for a longer period of time. If you do, the citrus may still crystallize and affect the otherwise creamy texture.

Sweet Secret

The trick to making delicious lemon orange ice cream is neither citrus nor cream. It’s the liquid sweetener. Personally, my choice is to use real maple syrup. The syrup adds depth of flavour and a thickness to the mixture that balances out the citric acid from the orange juice. maple syrup adds yet another layer of flavour and contributes to setting this ice cream apart from other fruit-based creams. It not only makes it different, it makes the flavour stand out as one of my all-time favourite combinations. It reminds me of a sweet breakfast bun with a tangy orange glaze. You might even scoop some onto your French toast or Belgian waffle.

Travelling With the Family – How to Plan the Best Vacation

0

Vacations are for relaxing, escaping the boredom of everyday life and spending time with family and friends. They can also be a chance to see new places, make new friends, and create memories that get us through the rest of the year. Ironically enough, that applies to the whole family, children as well as parents! Check out these family travel tips below for travelling with the family including travelling around the world!

Travelling With the Family Around the world

How to survive a family vacation? For a family vacation to be successful, everybody needs to get involved, and involved as soon as possible. The parents may need to set limits on time and money, but the kids can come up with ideas and try to locate places to go. Done properly, it becomes an adventure or quest, a game in real life, and with the Internet it has never been easier to do.

After enjoying a memorable family vacation, it’s not uncommon to experience the post-vacation blues upon returning to daily routines. The contrast between the excitement of travel and the regularity of life at home can be challenging to navigate. For insightful tips on how to manage these feelings and smoothly transition back into your job life, especially when balancing work and family responsibilities, take a look at this helpful article on Post-Vacation Blues. It offers effective strategies for workload upon return.

Set The Travelling Limits

The parent can start with “lets go somewhere, but it needs to be limited to within 500 miles (a one day drive) and we can be gone 8 days”. This allows 5 week days and then two weekends, with one day to rest after returning. The kids can then go onto Google Maps and look at everything within that radius.

How To Decide On A Family Travel Destination

Where to travel with family? Travelling with the family can be challenging especially choosing a family destination all members will agree on. Pick out places that are of interest to everyone. It may be a mountain retreat, a city with museums and restaurants, or a beach! Any where within 500 miles is fair game. Now each child has to find out about the place they think sounds most exciting, and things to do at that spot. Tell them that it needs something for each family member; shopping may be great for mom, and a museum day for the kids!

Now have a family meeting and each child presents their idea for vacation! Look all the ideas over and then vote on where to go! Usually each kid will vote for their own place, but then they may all either choose the same place or decide the other place sounds better. This is just choosing the place.

Vacation Day

Once the place is chosen, assign each child a day of the vacation as their day. It is the day when the family does what they want. You may need to put a monetary limit on it, but that should be okay. It could just be a day at the beach with a seafood dinner that evening. It might be a day at the park. Of course, Mom and Dad should have their day as well!

How To Decide When To Travel

Thanksgiving, summer vacation, spring break, or Mardi Gras? What if you don’t have a specific event to attend when travelling with ? How then do you decide when to travel with the family?

Selecting your vacation time is almost as important as selecting your vacation destination. Here are some tips to help you decide on the vacation location:

Recurring Location?

Barring any restrictions on work schedules and school calendars, your travel adventure can vary greatly on what season you travel in. Depending on your destination, the time of year you travel influences the experiences you have. For instance, if you visit Greece at the end of the summer travel season, you will notice uncrowded streets, lower hotel rates, and more intimate experience. But, what you will miss, warm days at the beach, seasonal activities (including frequent ferry crossings) and festivals abound.

Have you visited this location before, if so, would you benefit from a new experience at a different time of year? I hear that Vienna, one of my favourite cities, is breathtaking during the holiday season. I might consider my next trip in the winter and come away with a richer love of the city.

Cultural Experiences

Are you travelling with the family for an adventure by immersing yourself in the culture, learning the language, and spending time visiting with locals? Or, do you want a vacation with beautiful beaches, never-ending cocktails, and guided tours? In some cases, you can have both! But usually, traveling outside of high season gives you a richer sense of the country and its culture. This can be attributed to the locals simply having more time to visit with you and “show you around.”

Family Vacation Activities

What specific activities do you want available? For example, are there special attractions or museums that are a must? Some may be closed during certain months because of weather (this is especially important for the adventure junkies). Also consider renovations, restorations, and various other construction projects that may have one of your destinations limited or closed.

Family Vacation Budget

What’s your budget? Would traveling outside high season save you money on airfare and accommodations, possibly enhancing your family trip in other ways, such as added excursions? Traditionally, my family has traveled mid-season and think our experiences overall have been better.

Family Travelling The World

Traveling is the best option to unwind and catch up with your family and friends. Throughout the year, you were burying yourself into piles of work and now has come the perfect time to go on a vacation and travel the world. The world holds vast doors of opportunity for adventure-seekers as well as those who want something new and refreshing to do. When traveling with the family, you should be able to device a perfect plan from going to coming back home.

Smart traveling, when visiting far away, is not just about being wise about money, although this is one of the most important aspects, it must also include being able to minimize the hassle that comes along with traveling. With the use of modern technology as well as common sense, you can be a smart traveller and go around the world in a breeze.

Here are some tips for families travelling full-time around the world:

Plan your travel

Get the best deals online. Ask around for recommendations and search online for promotions and discounts that you and your group can avail of. Look for bundles in flight and hotel packages to be able to save more than if you would purchase just for yourself. Plot your itinerary and use a family travel planner with checklist to help you. This is the best way to fully enjoy your vacation and lessen the blunders. Make copies of all your travel documents and other important papers. You can also make use of public transportation vehicles as these are the most practical means to get you to your destinations.

Pack light

When travelling with the family, you need to have a packing checklist and get organized to make use of fewer bags as possible for the whole family. It will save you from paying for excess baggage. Most flights require you to pay, but others will let you leave your stuff in the airport. Depending on the duration of your stay, you should plan on packing just the right number of outfits. Use zip-lock bags for your toiletries and roll your clothes to save extra space for more items.

Travelling With the Family - How to Plan the Best Vacation

Be safe

Upon arrival, be sure to save all the necessary emergency or police hotlines as well as embassy local numbers that you can immediately call in case something comes up. Use a buddy system, consisting of 1 adult with children, or 1 teenager with a younger sibling at all times, whenever going out of the hotel to prevent any mishap. Always stay in contact with your family back home through the internet and update them of anything that is happening on your travel.

Travelling with the family may take weeks to plan, but it is weeks of anticipation and excitement that should add to the vacation rather than detract from it. Getting the kids involved will truly make it a family vacation.

These are only some handy and easy tips for travelling with the family. Now is the time to go on leave from your work and get ready for the best vacation that your family will ever experience!
