From flowers of spring to the robust colours of autumn leaves, it’s always lovely to decorate with seasonally inspired crafts. This DIY fall paper leaf garland is the perfect way to brighten your surroundings with the very best part of autumn. This fall craft with leaves also comes with a free leaves printable template.
Depending on where you are, Fall may come upon you early. We all have the same calendar, but August marks a peculiar threshold. For some, it becomes a rally to savour the last bits of summer. Others impatiently wait for the return of Pumpkin Spice to all of their best pumpkin treats. Some interesting changes happen between the peak of summer hype and the impending onslaught of Autumn. We get peculiar mixes of climate as the season transitions; however, no fall element, even pumpkin spice, is equivalent to the iconic scene of stunningly brilliant autumn leaves.
My Favorite Transition
Whether you love full summer or full fall, there is something magical about these delicate transitional changes. I love to look forward to new things, but savouring the temporary gifts of the fluctuating seasons is what makes me the happiest. Everything is changing and it’s good to embrace change; however, it’s the metamorphic process that I like best. The time between summer and fall is a great negotiation I always love to take part in from summer shade to the brisk walks through colourful leaf-littered paths.
Autumn Colours in Paper Leaf Garland
Paper leaf garland is one of the best go-to ways to festoon any space with eye-catching decor. Whereas some decorations create a focal point for a scene within your surroundings, garland helps to transform an entire space and it becomes the connecting tissue for your decorated environment that holds the image together. The best thing about DIY fall paper leaf garland is, of course, the gorgeous fall colours that imitate the reds, oranges, and yellows of fiery and colourful autumn leaves. Easy craft paper makes for the best medium to display as elaborate a portrait as you wish with the right mix of these instantly recognizable shades.

How to make fall leaf garland
Step 1:
Print out the free leaves printable template and cut out the leaf patterns. Select fall coloured craft papers for the leaves and trace the leaf patterns on the selected craft papers.
Step 2:
Select same coloured sharpie for each paper cutting leaf design and trace the vein patterns on them.
Step 3:
You can use a black sharpie to trace the veins, but using the same but darker shade of sharpie to trace veins on each paper cutting leaf design looks really nice.
Step 4:
Cut out a piece of string or yarn or thin rope. We’re using a twine rope. Keep extra 4 inches to 5 inches (or more) of the strand extra on both sides and attach the leaves between the extra lengths.
Step 5:
Take a leaf cutout and turn in to its wrong side. Apply glue on the stem part and place the strand between the leaf base and the stem.
Step 6:
Overlap the strand with the glued strand and attach it with the leaf base. Press against the glued part to make sure that the leaf is attached to the strand nicely.
Step 7:
Similarly, attach the rest of the paper leaf cutouts.
Step 8:
Turn the garland to the other side (the right side). Use the 2 open sides of the strand to tie a knotted loop so that you can hang them on a wall through the loops.

I think that it would be a fun family tradition to have each family member contribute a leaf to the garland. They can write a word or short phrase for something they are thankful for.
That is such a great idea! I love it!
I would love to make this craft with my grandchildren as fall it is my favorite time of year. I think this would be an easy and fun craft for all ages. I would definitely be using the garland in my house as fall decor which would thrill them.
They make such a fun home decor!
I’ll have to make this with the kids next year. It’s simple but the result is cute.
I would like to make the Fall Paper Leaf Garland with my kids, because this is a craft that they can hang around their bedrooms.
I would love to make these because they are easy enough to involve everyone–all ages and abilities. They refer back to nature and can be adapted to the situation. We can write names on them, or things for which we are thankful. We could turn them into nature lessons by writing tree names or the words of things we hear or see on our nature walks. So many ideas! What a fun craft!
Great ideas! Thank you for sharing!
