Caramel Apple with M&M Recipe

Just in time for apple season! You can pick you own apples at any of Ottawa’s orchards and make the Caramel Apples with M&M recipe with your family when you get back home. They also make a delicious treat for Halloween. Your kids will love them! This recipe will require a candy thermometer. Enjoy!

Caramel Apple with M&M Recipe

Apple preparation

To remove the wax coating from store purchased apples you can dip them in boiling water mixed with a splash of vinegar for a few seconds remove and dry. Allow to cool. Push the round stick into the bottom of each apple.

How To Make Caramel Apples

Caramel Ingredients

  • Pink Lady apples
  • 1 cup of margarine
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cup of green M&Ms
  • 2 cup of orange M&Ms

Material Needed

  • Candy Thermometer
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Double Boiler
  • Wooden Sticks

Caramel Instructions

  1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Using a double boiler, pour water into the bottom half just slightly lower than when the top pot sits in the bottom half. bring water to a boil.
  3. Using a double boiler, put the margarine, brown sugar, corn syrup and condensed milk int the top pot bringing the heat to a med-high. Raise the temp to a boil, constantly stirring then reduce heat to med. Cook for 25-30 minutes or until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees or when a teaspoon of the caramel is dropped into a glass of cold water it forms a firm ball.
  4. When this happens remove the pot from the heat stirring in the vanilla.
  5. Dip each apple into the caramel coating the apple and part of the wooden stick.
  6. Allow the apples to partially dry on the parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
  7. When the apples are cool enough to touch begin placing the orange M&Ms on the bottom of the apple.  When done with the orange M&Ms begin placing the green M&Ms on the top half of the apple.
  8. Allow the apple to completely cool.

When my grandson seen this last week he has been talking about it ever since… there is just no rest so finally last night we made these,we only had 3 apples so we just made 3 and i was surprised,fairly simple limited mess which i liked.Well he ate it and had his fix…..tell he says Nanny that was so easy we can make then at Halloween …………boys

  2. This candy apple has the good with the bad or in my view the good with the better and even better because the apple is good for you but the caramel and M&M’s are both better!
