Reasons For Toddler Vomiting

0

It’s not nice when a young child is being sick. Toddler vomiting can be very distressing for both parents and child alike. Let’s have a look at some of the reasons your toddler is vomiting as well as the causes and some remedies to help with throwing up.

What are the causes of throwing up

Vomiting happens when the stomach forces something out of it. The substance then travels up the gullet to the mouth and out. Normally the cause of the vomiting is nothing serious and is most probably caused by a common cold, the flu, or a stomach virus, and if this is the case, then it should be over within 12 to 24 hours.

Infections and allergies can sometimes make a child throw up. There may be an infection in the ears, urinary tract or even the respiratory tract. Migraines quite often cause sickness in children, and being upset or having a tantrum can be another trigger.

Reasons for toddler vomiting

Why would a toddler vomit frequently

Very rarely, if a toddler keeps vomiting frequently and repeatedly, this can be a sign of something more serious. In some cases, the toddler may have an obstruction inside the intestines, kidney failure, or an increased pressure inside the brain or skull. Some more serious illnesses that cause throwing up are Meningitis, Pneumonia, Appendicitis, Coeliac Disease, and even rarer Reye’s Syndrome. Accidental swallowing of a drug, poison, or a toxic substance will make a toddler vomit, and so can digestion of any contaminated water or food.

Toddler vomiting after eating

A young child may have a condition called Acid Reflux. This is quite common actually, and can make them sick frequently. If this is a suspected reason for the vomiting, the toddler should see a doctor, especially if the sickness occurs after food has been eaten. The little one will not be getting sufficient nutrients or energy from food if they are bringing the food back up again after eating, and this itself can make a child ill.

Toddler Vomiting Phlegm

If your child vomits persistently, has bright green phlegm, or the toddler is vomiting blood in the sick, then it is best to get a doctors’ advice.

Remedies for Toddler Vomiting

If the sickness goes on for longer than 12 to 24 hours, it is important to find out the cause, and whatever the reason it should be treated in the appropriate way.

Dehydration should try to be avoided by regular sips of water or ice chips to suck on. Build up to 1 oz an hour, then 2 oz an hour until your toddler is able to drink normally. What actually works best for my children was to dilute apple juice with water and have them sip it.

Pedialyte for Toddler Vomiting

Your pediatrician may recommend a commercial rehydration solution like Pedialyte to help your toddler rehydrate after vomiting. This product will help with replacing lost sodium and potassium.

Intravenous Rehydration

Your child may not want to eat, this is ok for a little while, but if this goes on for a long time and well over 24 hours, then an intravenous drip may be prescribed at hospital to administer fluids. If you suspect hydration, please contact your family doctor or pediatrician.

Symptoms of dehydration include:

  • reduced urine output
  • dry lips and tongue
  • dry wrinkled skin
  • rapid breathing
  • dry eyes
  • cool and blotchy feet and hands

When To Seek Medical Help

Also, if the little child has any of the following: fever, rash, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, is dehydrated, has sunken eyes, and does not pass urine for more than six hours, please bring your child to seek immediate medical attention.

Sangria Ice Pops: White Wine and Strawberry Freezies

2

These sangria ice pops are made with white wine and strawberries for a delicious summer freezies recipe!

It’s no secret. I love a good frozen treat. I’ll freeze anything liquid and I’ll do it using all sorts of molds from spheres to traditional popsicle trays. Sometimes, two great things can come together. That’s frozen treats and amazing cocktails. If you enjoy sangria on a summer afternoon, just think how much more refreshing it is as a freezie! When I decided to make sangria freezies recently, I felt like I made the discovery of the century!

Sangria freezies

Grown-Up Freezies

Frozen cocktails are nothing new. Usually, you can drink them blended; however, they typically don’t freeze well in the sense that you can make popsicles out of them. That’s where the freezies with alcohol comes in. If you don’t know, a freezie is a sugary frozen treat made by freezing juice in a plastic tube or sleeve. You enjoy it by pushing the flavoured ice out of the tube.

A popular version of the freezie is the Mr. Freeze. Like Band-Aid, Kleenex, or Coke, Otter Pops are the most highly recognized brand among these tubes of icy, almost snow-like refreshments. But what you may not know is you can make homemade sangria ice pops by using the ingredients and supplies in your own house. To start, you just need sleeves or tubes for freezing your strawberry sangria ice pops.

Sangria Ice Pops: White Wine and Strawberry Freezies

Where do I get Popsicle Sleeves?

Okay, so not everybody has a popsicle sleeve just hanging out in their kitchen cabinets to make sangria ice pops. But they are easy to find! Get some now so you can get plenty of use from them all summer long. The popsicle sleeves I use are from Amazon. They include a silicon funnel to make it easier to pour your mixture of strawberry and white wine into the sleeves. All you have to do to make these frozen sangria pops work is blend it into a smooth mixture, pour it, and wait for it to freeze!

Orange Creamsicle Drink Recipe

89

How do you make an orange creamsicle drink? This orange creamsicle drink non alcoholic version is a basic combination of only 3 ingredients: orange juice, orange ice cream, and water.

Orange Creamsicle Drink Recipe

Going all the way back to my earliest childhood memories I recall the flavour of an orange creamsicle. It’s something a lot of us have in common. There is something about that blend of citrus and vanilla that we can’t get enough of. Partly, I think that’s because we all get a similar nostalgic feeling when we taste it; however, it’s also one of those classic combinations that just tastes amazing, no matter what the flavour reminds you of. No matter how you have experienced and enjoyed this winning combination in the past, this orange creamsicle drink recipe is going to delight and refresh you during hot summer days. Also, it couldn’t be easier to make.

Conjure Up A Memory

Making an orange creamsicle mocktail may seem like a complicated task, but it’s actually one of the simplest concoctions you can create at home. If you love to frequently indulge in the sweet and tangy blend of orange and vanilla cream, this
virgin creamsicle drink will be only natural. If you haven’t experienced this combination in ages, but would love to encounter them again for old times sake, then here is all you need to do.

Orange Creamsicle Drink

What’s In A Creamsicle Drink?

Though simple, the recipe is interesting. You can’t simply melt the orange ice cream and drink it. The drink requires actual orange juice; however, orange juice alone is too overpowering and you lose the cream flavour. You need to balance it. Surprisingly, you don’t need more cream or any vanilla flavouring. All you need is ordinary water. It mellows out the orange juice just enough that when you add the slightly melted ice cream, it’s perfect. Try this non alcoholic dessert drink for yourself and you will see that this frothy beverage hits all the right notes for getting that unique creamsicle taste.

How to Make an Orange Creamsicle drink

Step 1: Measure out ice cream and let melt a bit, if you find that your ice cream is quite hard. Some freezers really freeze ice cream and it can be very hard and difficult to blend into the drink to get it nice and frothy. If your freezer doesn’t tend to freeze ice cream solid, you should be able to just pop the ice cream into the glass and go. You want the ice cream to be a bit firmer than soft serve. In warmer climates, this may only take a couple minutes for the ice cream to soften a bit.

Step 2: Mix water and orange juice in a jug.

Step 3: Add in ice cream and mix well. The mixture will be come a bit frothy.

How To Explain To A Child About Death

0

Death is a natural part of the life cycle, but how does a parent explain that to a child? Here are some ways on how to explain a death to a child.

The cycle of life is such that there is a beginning, birth and an ending, death. Each comes with its own difficulties when it comes to explaining these phases to a child. Death holds a more solemn and unpleasant connotation, as the person that just passed will no longer be with the living. However, how do you explain to a child about death? It’s a difficult subject to be sure, but one that parents need to discuss freely with their children.

How To Explain To A Child About Death

Children Are Aware Of Death

By talking with their children about death, parents will find out what they already know and what they have been misinformed on. At some level, children are aware of death because they see it in everyday life, whether it be on the television screen, seeing a dead bird or bug on the sidewalk, or hearing it read to them in a fairy tale at school. However, by being open with children about death, a parent can prepare a child for when a crisis occurs.

Parents also need to keep an open line of communication on the subject of death in the event the child wants to discuss the issue further, particularly if the parents can maintain open and honest feelings of their own on the subject. Children are great observers and will know when a parent is holding something back based simply on body language.

Be Specific

It is important that when a parent explains a death of a loved one, they use terminology that the children will understand. If the children are younger, it is best to not say, Grandpa went to sleep because children go to sleep too, so therefore the children may think they will go to sleep and not wake up either. It’s best to be specific. Tell the organ or illness that caused the loved one to pass away.

Another good explanation is telling the child that when people get old they often die. It’s best to share specific causes with the child, so that he doesn’t fantasize that he had something to do with the death of the person that passed. It is also important during the discussion to not cause a fear of death, a learned behaviour, but rather that it is a natural part of life.

How To Help Grieving Child

Every child will grieve in his own way. Child grieving needs space, understanding, and patience as they work through the loss of the loved one. It is important to remember that a child grieving process might not be in the same manner as an adult. A child might become hyperactive, act out, or may not cry. Whatever reaction a child has, it’s a process and one that the parents should not take personally.

Parents need to keep an eye on their children’s behaviour. If a normally happy child that gets good grades suddenly becomes withdrawn, seek the help of a professional. Doctors, school counselors, and mental health specialists might be able to provide the help a child needs and the parents with resources needed to help their child manage their grief at home.

How To Explain Death To A Child

Explain Death To Kids

While death is an unpleasant subject to discuss, it is important that, through the lines of open communication, parents explain what death is to children. It is also important that children learn to not fear death, but to come to understand it as a part of the circle of life.

Chocolate And Coffee Ice Cream Recipe

2

This homemade chocolate and coffee ice cream recipe is both simple and unique. It has a subtle taste of coffee without being overpowering and the delicious chocolate flavour is made with store bought or homemade chocolate sauce. This is the best recipe for homemade ice cream!

Chocolate Coffee Ice Cream made with an ice cream maker

Of all the things to go out and buy, I recommend finally getting that ice cream maker you’ve always fantasized about. If you daydream about making your own homemade ice cream on a yearly basis, now is the time to finally seize the moment and purchase that elusive doohickey and begin your summer of small-batch, exclusive, one-of-a-kind ice cream that you can call your very own. You don’t have to get crazy with the flavours, but you can. Having your own ice cream maker opens opportunities for newfound creativity and potentially a brand new favourite ice cream maker recipes; however, don’t worry about having to be too unique. My chocolate and coffee ice cream is the perfect way to break in your new ice cream maker!

Freedom To Create New Flavours Of Homemade Ice Cream

You can make your classic flavours too with any degree of spin you like. My chocolate ice cream with coffee is just the recipe to start you on the right track. And, hopefully, get you comfortable making more traditional ice cream flavours, while at the same time giving you a little bit of room to be different.

For me, one of the setbacks I experience when I start using a new “maker” is my own expectation to be novel in my approach to the recipes I make. Don’t let that get in the way of enjoying your own homemade creamy frozen sweets. It doesn’t matter if you just want plain vanilla, or if you want to try it with some pretzels and peanut butter thrown in.

Custom Ice Cream Flavours

You will have lots of opportunities to customize your homemade ice cream. If your aim is to experiment, I recommend starting out with a blend like chocolate ice cream with coffee to set the tone for variety, while still sticking to relatively standard flavours.

Step 1: Freeze ice cream barrel the night before overnight.

Step 2: Prep the strong coffee, I suggest that you let it cool, but you may add it warm (not hot to the ice cream barrel, which may add additional churn time). To make strong coffee, just simply add 1 tbsp of instant coffee to 1/4 cup of water. Mix well. If you prefer cold brew coffee you can leave 2 tbsp of coffee overnight with ¼ cup of water. You can also use the same quantities for hot brew coffee and just let it cool.

Step 3: Add all ingredients to the ice cream maker for 20 minutes. At the 20 minute mark, you should have a soft serve ice cream. If you want it firmer, you should scoop it out and place it in a container to freeze for 4-6 hours.

How To Save Money Easily

0

You know that it is important to save money. Financial security is something that most adults strive for but many never fully achieve. Many people live on tight budgets that make it difficult to save. Others are distracted by their careers or life in general. As long as they have what they need and the bills are getting paid, they don’t have time to think about saving for the future. Let’s have a look at ways to save money easily for a vacation, buying a home, house renovations, or retirement.

How to Save Money Easily

How Much Money Do You Need to Save?

Saving money should however, be at the top of your priority list whether you’re single or have a family. How much you need to save is different for everyone. It depends on what you’re saving for, your income and your expenses. Still, there are a few basic guidelines available to help you determine how much money to save. One of the most popular methods to use is the 50/20/30 financial rule of thumb.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Spend 50 percent of your income on necessities. This includes your home, utilities, groceries, vehicle maintenance along with anything else you consider an essential to survive.
  2. 20 percent of your income should go into savings. This money should be sent directly to your savings account so you never even see it.
  3. 30 percent of your income should go on personal things. This could be anything from dining out once a week to taking the kids to the Amusement Park.

Keep in mind this is just a guideline. You may not need to spend 30 percent of your income on personal things. In which case, you can save more than 20 percent. Therefore, use the 50/20/30 financial rule of thumb as a guide to help determine how much to save and then adjust it to your lifestyle. Now that you know how much money to save each payday, it’s time to get started on that budget to help make it happen.

Easy Ways to Save Money on a Tight Budget

If you’re already living on a tight budget, saving easily might sound impossible. How are you supposed to save extra money when you barely make enough as it is? Millions of people are in the exact same boat. You know how important it is to your future, but it might seem very difficult to save when you just don’t have enough to begin with. Let’s look at how to save more money each month and a few ways you can make this happen.

Here are 3 ways to save money on a tight budget:

1. Always hold off on purchases – For any non-essential purchases, wait at least 24 hours before you make them. This lets you see when and where you can cut back and it reduces impulse spending.

2. Take advantage of employer savings matching – If your employer has a fund to match your savings, be sure to take full advantage of this. In many of them, if you contribute 5% of your pay, they will match it with 5%. You’re getting double the savings.

3. Automate your savings – Set up automatic transfers to move a certain part of each paycheck over to your savings before you ever see it. This ensures you have your savings (no matter how small) before anything else is spent.

Saving money on a tight budget isn’t easy. It’s hard to make something out of nothing, but if you follow these money saving tips and stick with it, it can happen. You’ll then have some savings that will help you get through tough times in the future, should any emergencies occur. Way to go!

Tips to Save More Money

Are you looking for ways to save more money this year? Maybe you’re saving for a big purchase, a vacation, to pay off a loan, or just to build up your nest egg. Whatever your reason for saving, here are some tips on how to save more money easily and do it smartly.

Here are 4 sensible ways to save more money:

1. Pay yourself first

Set up automatic withdrawals to take money directly from your paycheck to send to your savings account. If you don’t get paid this way, pay yourself first manually, before any of the money is spent on anything else. This might seem difficult if you don’t have a lot of money to work with as is, but it’s important that you save, even when you can’t really afford to.

2. Avoid any new debt

It sounds obvious, but this one is an important one. You need to do everything you can to avoid any new debt while you’re trying to save.

3. Creative Ways To Save Money

It’s not always easy to cut back on your spending, especially if you’re already living on a tight budget; however, if you dig deep, you can probably find some creative ways you can reduce your spending, or cut back on the bills you currently have. It all adds up.

4. Set reasonable goals

Make sure your savings goals are realistic and also that you set a timeframe for them. When there is no time limit, there is less motivation for reaching your goal. Make your timeframe reasonable and then stick to it.

Now that you have all these ideas for saving money easily, you can begin saving. If you stick with it, you’ll reach your goals and you’ll see that saving doesn’t have to be that difficult after all.

Most Popular Attractions In Canada For Tourists

1

Canada is a travel destination for tourist of many nations. Canada has so much to offer to the world. It has vast wilderness areas, many lakes and rivers, plenty of coastline, and great and exciting cities. Some of the most popular attractions in Canada for tourists are very well known and they deserve to be!

How Many Tourists Visit Canada

According to Statistics Canada, 2019 was the best year for Canadian tourism, with arrivals reaching 22.1 million from both the United States and overseas. The number of tourists from overseas countries rose to 7.1 million arrivals, while the number of US tourists to Canada rose to 15.0 million. Let’s take a close look at what are Canada’s tourist spots!

Toronto

Canadian Cities Worth Visiting

Canada tourists have many exciting cities to visit in each province that offer many fun activities and attractions for the family. These are just a few to mention!

Toronto, Ontario

Toronto is Canada’s largest city. It is also the cultural entertainment capital, although Montreal doesn’t think so. Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario is a vibrant, clean, and bustling city. Just ask the taxi drivers, they would like it less bustling, especially during the rush hour. Toronto is so bustling, that the rest of Canada (ROC) disparagingly say that Torontonians “can’t wait for Monday morning”.

Montreal, Quebec

Montreal is also a great city to visit when in Canada. This is one of the largest French-speaking communities in the world. Set on a hilly island, it’s laced with stunning architecture ranging from historical gems like Notre Dame de Montreal to ultra-modern wonders like Habitat 67, and filled with charming parks and quaint streets. An urban park covers most of Mount Royal, right above downtown. Montreal is a gorgeous place to visit in fall, when the leaves change. It has Old Montreal, the old world city within a city. Montreal is the city of festivals, such as the Jazz Festival, the Just for Laughs, and dozens and dozens more. Montreal is a fun city with lots of great restaurants. It is also very affordable for a city of its stature.

Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver is the gem of the Canadian Pacific. It is also bustling with new development and heady optimism. It has the great Stanley Park so close to the city center. Vancouver has mountains within easy access and the vibrant harbour. It has many charming streets and busy commerce. In under two hours from Vancouver, you can drive and visit beautiful scenic Whistler!

Vancouver is an intriguing modern city, but the attraction everyone goes on about is the Capiliano Suspension bridge. Take the Seabus, the cross-harbour ferry, to the north shore to visit it, or drive via Lion’s Gate.

This pedestrian bridge is scary, but in a good way. It sways slightly as you cross it, above a river canyon that sinks more than 230 feet below you. Reassuringly, the sturdy railing is shoulder high. Around you are the tall Douglas Firs and fragrant Cedars of a temperate Rain Forest. The air is soft and moist. All of this is minutes from town. When you get to the other side of the 450 foot long bridge, you are rewarded with a network of walkways among the crowns of trees. You get a true birds-eye-view of the forest. The attraction also features totem poles and other artifacts, and performances by descendants of the first inhabitants of British Columbia.

Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta

Calgary is in the foothills of the Rockies. Edmonton is loath to be mentioned in the same breath as Calgary but the location and the boom of Alberta is centred in Calgary although Edmonton is closer to the geographic tar-sands boom.

Churchill, Manitoba

A Canadian city you can visit by train is Churchill, and it is also possible to fly there, but no road goes to Churchill yet. Churchill is where polar bears gather on the shore. The best months to see the bears are October and November, while they wait on Churchill’s peninsula for thick ice to form on Hudson Bay so that they can hunt. In summer, there is whale-watching in Churchill’s estuary, and in early spring through summer tourists come for bird watching.

Winter brings the Aurora Borealis if nights are clear. Several established companies help eco-tourists enjoy the wildlife in comfort and safety. Churchill is also a working port, exporting Canada’s grain to Europe through its only major arctic port. The world is changing fast, and anyone who wants to visit Churchill should plan to visit fairly soon.

Canada National And Provincial Parks

Canada has great national and provincial parks. There is Jasper National Park and the great Banff National Park in Alberta. There is the Lake Louise, the Waterton National Park, the Kougibouguac National Park in New Brunswick. You can also visit the Gatineau Provincial Park in Western Quebec. These parks are accessible for day or overnight camping. Some of them even offer lodging in prestigious hotels.

Canada Natural Wonders

In addition, tourists to Canada have numerous natural wonders to visit such as Niagara Falls and the Great Canadian Rockies. Niagara Falls which boarders the US is also a great destination. The better view of the falls is on the Canadian side. There is also the expansive prairies and the Canadian Badlands. Then there is the rough and pristine Canadian Arctic. Canada has lots of forests, rivers, and lakes.

Canada Tourist Attractions

Ever hear of Anne of Green Gables? She is a legend in Japan. Red haired Anne is a vibrant, school girl in Prince Edward Island written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The house of Lucy Maud is one of the major Canada attractions in PEI.

Can I Substitute Fresh Peaches For A Can Of Diced Peaches?

This mojito non alcoholic drink is perfect for when an unexpected guest drops by and you need a refreshment, fast. I like to use fresh peaches with this drink, but if you are pressed for time, or don’t have fresh fruit, feel free to substitute a can of diced peaches. I would recommend rinsing them first, as the heavy syrup in fresh peaches will overpower the other flavours of the drink.

Double The Recipe

This delicious mojito virgin recipe will make two glasses from one bottle of Sparkling ice water, so if you are serving a crowd, you will want to double the recipe.

7 Summer Crafts Ideas For Kids

2

Particularly fun summer craft ideas for kids to do over the summer vacation are ones that all ages can contribute to, and that produces something that is genuinely useful and beautiful. Summer crafts can be rewarding for older children and adults where young children can also play an essential part in.

Summer Project For The Family

With a few materials and some good ideas, summer will fly by, and your kids will learn new things that will help them do well when they heads back to school.

Build and Decorate A Garden Den

A fun summer project is building a garden den to play in. It takes a couple of weeks, and should last for years. You can make a den outside with wood. Once the children have grown up, it can be turned into a useful garden shed or summerhouse. A treehouse is a possibility, but an equally good hideout begins effectively with a hut.

The outdoor den construction stage needs most input from older family members, but everybody can help in little ways. Sanding wood and hammering nails in are not all that difficult and very young children can help by passing up tools, screws, and nails.

Once the structure is complete, you move onto painting and decorating, which is fun for all ages. The outside of the den needs painted, the inside needs pictures, furniture, rugs, and decorations and these provide the opportunity for countless more crafts.

Summer Crafts With Toddlers To Kindergarten

These easy summer craft ideas are always popular choices for toddlers and young children!

Leaf Printing Craft

Leaf prints art are easy to make as a summer craft idea. Collect leaves of all different kinds, and brush them lightly with washable ink or paint. Press the wet side down carefully on a piece of paper and go over the back with a roller to be sure all the tiny details transfer. These prints are often gorgeous enough to frame, and can also be used for making greeting cards and decorative papers. Label the print with the common and scientific name of the plant for added educational value.

Popsicle Sticks Crafts

When rain prevents going outdoors, it’s time to use up all those Popsicle sticks you’ve been saving and make one of these 100 Popsicle stick crafts. Make a log cabin to show how the early settlers lived. Your kids can make Popsicle stick picture frames to hold your vacation photos. Make puppet crafts such as Three Little Pigs Story Puppets Craft With Printable Template and Goldilocks And The Three Bears Puppet. Craft books and web sites give instructions for making popsicle stick airplane and many other items out of Popsicle sticks.

Summer Crafts For Tweens

These 2 summer crafts DIY will keep your tween busy for hours!

Balloon Bowls

Balloon bowls are so much fun to make! This is something to do with balloons after a party and definitely a fun summer craft idea for the kids. You might want to tie the knots extra tight so they don’t go down too quickly. Then you layer on small pieces of newspaper soaked in light glue (such as wallpaper paste), not completely covering the balloon. You want to leave a gap towards the top to create a bowl/vase shape. Leave each layer to dry, which won’t take long in the hot summer sun.

Once a few layers of have dried to create a solid structure you pop the balloon, leaving behind a paper mache bowl. Decorate these any way you like, with paint, beads, glitter, etc., and finish with a coat of varnish. The older the children the more elaborate the decorations can be. When finished, these bowls are handy for keeping small toys, pencils, screws, lego blocks, and any other small, fiddly odds and ends in.

A Family Book

You can combine paintings, photographs, small essays, poetry, drawing, collages, and a range of art projects in a family book. There are two ways to do this summer craft. You can carefully stick the artwork into a scrapbook and write directly into it. Or you can scan or photograph all your paintings and projects and print them off and bind into a very professional looking book.

Everybody in the family, from toddlers to teenagers, can contribute something. Your kids can keep adding to the book every month or create one just for that summer. If you decided to print it, then copies could be made for grandparents as very personal gifts. A family book preserves ephemeral artwork and is a lovely record of part of a family’s life.

Summer Crafts Ideas For Kids

Summer Crafts For Teens

Summer is also a fantastic time to study nature, and to gather natural materials for craft projects. Shells, rocks, twigs, leaves, and other natural materials make beautiful and educational projects.

Night Sky Map Craft

After a long day of play, making a night sky map can be both enjoyable and an informative craft. Provide dark blue or black posterboard, and light chalk or fluorescent paint markers. Spread a blanket on the ground on a clear night, and draw the star formations you see. Back indoors, use books to identify the major stars and constellations. Read some of the Greek and Roman myths that inspired the names of your constellations.

One very useful book is “365 Starry Nights” by Chet Raymo. It contains maps of the sky at various times of the year, is full of information about the stars, and tells the stories associated with the constellations. Use sequins in different sizes to highlight the stars, and label the major stars and constellations. Your finished creation will make a beautiful display

Turning An Aquarium Into A Vivarium

Another fun summer project your children will absolutely love is making a vivarium. Gather a 5 or 10 gallon aquarium, rocks, soil, and small mosses and plants. For a more permanent installation, substitute light potting soil and terrarium plants for the natural materials. Add an upside down jar lid filled with water, and conceal the edges for a natural look. Landscape the setting, using rocks to bank the soil.

Be sure to add some hiding places. Now add small animals to turn your terrarium into a vivarium. Preying mantises are fascinating to watch and small lizards like anoles make good inhabitants. A toad may enjoy your accommodations, and a caterpillar will often form a cocoon or chrysalis in captivity if provided with the right leaves for food. Pet store finds can be used for more permanent inhabitants. Help your children research the diet and habits of your chosen creature. Those animals that don’t do well in captivity should be returned to the wild within a few days.

Getting the whole family involved in a summer craft project can be a real bonding experience. You just need to find something satisfying and challenging enough for older children, yet that allows the youngest to play their part. Also, don’t forget to pick one that will produce something the family actually wants or needs. The process is fun, but the result is important too.

5 Tips For More Energy Throughout The Day

1

Being a mom is tiring, no matter what the age of your kids. Even after the days of breastfeeding and sleepless nights are over, so many moms still struggle with exhaustion.

Mother and Son Having Fun

With all the things on our to-do lists, often checking off each box with kids in tow, it’s not surprising that many of us feel sluggish throughout the day. Prolonged periods of stress and exhaustion are not good for our immune systems and health.

If we don’t take care of ourselves, how can we take care of the ones we love?

Running on fumes does not have to be the new normal. Before you reach for that 3rd or 4th cup of coffee, consider these tips for increasing your energy levels throughout the day.

Drink Enough Water

Your body needs water. Up to 60% of the human body is made up of water. Making sure you are properly hydrated is an easy and inexpensive way to increase your energy levels throughout the day.

Although everyone’s needs are different, a good rule of thumb is 8 X 8-ounce glasses of water per day (a minimum of 64 ounces of water every day).

You need more water if you are physically active and during the warmer summer months. If you want to get technical, you can calculate your exact needs by multiplying 30 ml by your body weight in kilograms.

Keep water with you at all times, and drink it consistently throughout the day. Add lemon, limes, oranges, or other fruits for flavor variety.

Avoid convenience store vitamin waters and sports drinks as they add unnecessary calories and sugar.

5 Tips For More Energy Throughout The Day

Get Moving

Exercise has many health benefits, including increased energy. Exercise increases your body’s physical fitness as well as your mood, both of which contribute to overall health and well-being.

Any exercise or physical activity that gets your heart going and the blood flowing releases endorphins and raises your energy level.

Feeling sluggish in the afternoon? Go outside for a brisk walk. Strap the baby in the stroller and get some steps in. If your kids are older, try taking them to the park and walking the perimeter while they play.

Eat More Protein

Not getting enough protein throughout the day can be a big culprit of fatigue. If you’re skipping breakfast, or not including any protein in your first meal, this could be making you feel fatigued.

Foods that are high in protein provide the body with energy to repair and build tissues. Protein takes longer than carbohydrates to break down in the body, therefore it provides a longer-lasting energy source.

Consuming adequate protein can make you feel more energized and help keep you feeling full for longer. You can find protein in many foods such as poultry, fish, lean red meat, nuts, milk, yogurt, eggs, yogurt, cheese, and tofu.

If you’re like a lot of moms, your mornings are very busy and you are constantly on the go. There isn’t a lot of time to cook a well-balanced meal. This often leads to skipping breakfast, which doesn’t get you off to a good start for your day.

Naked Shake

A protein shake is a quick and easy way to make sure you start your day off on the right foot. This peanut butter blueberry shake from Naked Nutrition is the tastiest way to increase your daily protein intake on a busy schedule.

The shake provides you 20 grams of plant-based protein and only 5 grams of sugar. Providing proper fuel for your body, Naked Shake will leave you feeling energized and ready to take on your day.

Get Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep is pretty high on the list of why moms feel tired and need an energy boost. When our children are smaller, they wake up frequently throughout the night, and when our children get older, they don’t want to go to sleep.

Making sure your children get to sleep can leave you feeling exhausted.

If you stay up too late, try going to bed 15-20 minutes earlier than you normally do. Each week, add another 15-20 minutes until you’re getting that 7-8 hours of restful sleep. When you’re getting enough sleep, you usually wake up without an alarm feeling rested and awake.

Get Your Micronutrients

If you find yourself feeling dragging throughout the day, you may not be getting enough of the right vitamins and minerals.

Although all foods provide the body with energy, certain foods contain high levels of micronutrients that can provide your body and mind with an energy boost. B vitamins are some of those important micronutrients.

Most B vitamins work as coenzymes, triggering important chemical reactions that are needed for energy production. If your diet is low in B vitamins, you may find yourself feeling tired before your day is done.

B vitamins are found in multiple food sources, such as whole grains, meat, and dairy products, eggs, nuts and seeds, legumes, and dark leafy green vegetables.

Make sure you are eating a variety of foods from different food groups to ensure you are getting enough B vitamins and other micronutrients.

Remember These Tips For More Energy

If you find yourself feeling tired and in need of an energy boost throughout the day, remember these 5 tips before reaching for another dose of caffeine.

Make sure you’re drinking enough water, exercising regularly, getting enough protein, getting adequate rest, and eating a diet rich in micronutrients. Incorporating these behaviors into your daily lifestyle can help you feel more energetic and ready to conquer your days.

Remember, if you don’t take care of yourself first, it’s difficult to take care of everyone else in your family.

9 Ways You Can Help Your Teen Organize Their Bedroom

There are several easy and simple steps that you can take to help your teen organize their bedroom and keep it that way. You will find below tips on how to organize a teenage bedroom.

How to organize a teenage bedroom

While every teen is different, our teenage years aren’t usually known for being organized. Many parents wonder if there is anything that they can do to encourage their teens to stay on top of organizing and keeping their room tidy, while most teens are more concerned with having fun and enjoying these great years of their young lives.

By making organization easy, your teen won’t have to feel like they are spending a lot of time tidying, and they can enjoy a nice environment whether they’re doing homework, have friends over, or are relaxing with a TV show.

teen bedroom

1. Under-Bed Storage

Under-bed storage is a great option for a teen’s room, especially if the space is quite small. Queen size bed dimensions are quite large and if there’s no under-bed storage, you lose quite a lot of floor space. This type of storage enables you to take advantage of the space in the entire room, giving your teen the ideal place to put anything that they don’t need to use every day.

Divan bed bases can have storage drawers as an option. Choose from two drawers or four drawers in a double bed or larger. These can be used for storing clothes not used very often, bedding, towels, and anything else your teen wants to stash away out of sight.

Ottoman bed storage gives you the entire space under the bed and you can use storage boxes to divide it into neat categories. When the mattress is down, anything stored beneath it is hidden.

Traditional frame beds have space beneath them, but it’s important to be aware that this is typically where dust bunnies and dirt accumulate. Buy your teen some plastic storage trays with wheels, so they can put shoes, books, and other miscellaneous items out of the way, in a dust-free box.

2. Built-In Wardrobes

A spacious built-in wardrobe can make all the difference to your teen’s room. If you have a teen who is interested in fashion and is often buying the latest trends to keep up with the season’s looks, an overflowing wardrobe could be a serious bone of contention in your home. Built-in wardrobes utilize the space in the room to provide maximum storage space for all their outfits without cluttering the room any further.

Chimney breast alcoves are a convenient place to build a wardrobe, but any long stretch of wall will do. DIY wardrobes are not difficult to construct if you have good DIY skills and a selection of power tools at your disposal. You can purchase kits that include a range of doors and all the necessary tracks and frameworks needed. However, if the space is tricky or you want a more luxurious look, complete with storage solutions and bespoke doors, it’s worth paying extra for a fitted wardrobe.

3. Wall-Mounted Desk

Most teens like to have a desk in their room so that they have got somewhere quiet they can go to study and complete homework, play video games, and more. A wall-mounted desk helps to save space in their room by providing somewhere to work that takes up less room compared to a free-standing desk. You can nearly fit a chair underneath it. For a small room, a ladder desk is an ideal choice since it utilizes the height rather than the width of the room to provide more desk and storage space without getting in the way.

4. Floor To Ceiling Shelves

Shelves are always handy for books, schoolwork, CDs, DVDs, and other small items, but most people only bother installing two or three. If your teen has a passion for reading and has piles of books stacked up around their bed, fit some more shelves, this time utilizing the full height of the wall to maximize space.

5. Built-in Cupboard

Out of sight, out of mind is always the best way. Alcoves can be converted into walk-in cupboards, with shelves, where sports kits, games, shoes, and anything else cluttering up your teen’s bedroom can be stored.

6. Labeled Drawers and Storage Boxes

Keeping their room organized will be a breeze for your teen if there is a good system in place, and labeling drawers and storage boxes is an ideal way to do this easily. You can get a label maker and add labels to drawers for anything from clothes and underwear to makeup and toiletries, school items, and more.

7. Storage Cubes

Storage cube shelving systems are a great way to keep books, tech items, and miscellaneous junk off the floor and organized. Storage cubes act as a shelving unit or you can purchase soft cubes to fill each opening. Fill them with smaller items to minimize clutter.

8. Large Laundry Basket

If one of the main issues that you are having is clothing piling up in your teen’s room, a large divided laundry basket might be the answer. You can get nicely designed baskets that will fit into the décor of the room easily and are divided into sections for whites, colors, and darks to make sure that your teen’s laundry is always out of the way and ready to wash. Place it close to where they get changed, so that it’s easy to throw items in the basket instead of straight onto the floor.

Ways You Can Help Your Teen Organize Their Bedroom

9. Instill Good Habits

Teens are often guilty of taking cups, plates, and glasses up to their room before abandoning them for days at a time. It’s not pleasant discovering crusty plates and moldy mugs when vacuuming under the bed, so encourage your teen to bring used plates and cups down to the kitchen once a day. It typically takes a great deal of repetition for something to become a habit, so you may need to tell them multiple times before it sinks in.

Organizing their bedroom might be the last thing that your teen wants to do, but keep these tips in mind to help them keep their space tidy.

Homemade Strawberry Liqueur Recipe

1

If you love diving into a huge piece of strawberry shortcake, this strawberry liqueur recipe is just for you… seriously!

Homemade liqueur infused strawberries is really easy to make. So, there’s no reason not to mix up a batch or two. Not only that, it’s something fun to give as a gift at Christmas time, on Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or “just because”.

Homemade Strawberry Liqueur Recipe

What Is Strawberry Liqueur Made Of?

Strawberry liqueur is made with fresh strawberries, vodka, and simple syrup. Our recipe is more flavourful since we added cupcake and marshmallow syrups to resemble the tase of a strawberry shortcake.

Simple Syrup

The only required cooking step for the strawberry alcohol liqueur is making the simple syrup recipe. The rest is just dicing, pouring, and shaking. The syrup, a combination of sugar dissolved and cooked down and water, is actually something you can make more of and store in the refrigerator for several weeks. When you start to see mold, throw it out.

Homemade Fresh Strawberry Liqueur

Tips To Make The Strawberry Liqueur

To make this strawberry infused vodka liqueur, wash the strawberries, and remove the stems and any white or soft spots. Dice up the fruit and distribute it evenly in each of the four jars. Next, add all of the syrups to each one as well.

Screw lids on tightly and shake until everything is mixed together completely. Store the jars in a dark place at room temperature. Shake each one every couple of days. This helps with the flavour infusion process.

After one month, the strawberry liqueur should be ready to use. Strain it through cheesecloth and pour back into the jars, sealing tightly. Refrigerate for up to 30 days.

How To Serve The Strawberry Liqueur

Your homemade strawberry liqueur can be used for lots of things. Pour it over strawberry shortcake or ice cream, use it as a “poke cake” ingredient, add it to fruity mixed drinks, or service on the rocks. The choice is up to you!

15 Summer Boredom Busters For Kids

3

Kids jump for joy when school ends, but are usually bored after the first week of summer vacation. This list of summer boredom busters for kids can help ward off the summer blues.

What To Do When Kids Are Bored In The Summer

By planning ahead and being prepared, parents can keep their kids out of trouble and out of their hair during summer vacation. Don’t make a big deal about it or they may reject the parent’s summer boredom ideas. Instead, pull up websites and leave brochures and clippings around for them to discover. Make plans early to avoid summer holiday boredom. Once boredom sets in, it’s harder to shake. How do you beat summer boredom? Keep reading to find out!

Free Local Activities

Many communities have a pool where kids can swim and hang out safely for free or for a small fee. Community concerts, sporting events, festivals, and fairs are great places for teens and tweens to meet up with friends for an afternoon or evening. Some community centers have special events for kids, such as movies or dances.

Libraries often have summer programs for kids. Make a habit of stopping at the library once a week to foster a love for reading. But don’t stop with books. Kids can also borrow music, videos, and games from many libraries or through online apps. Be sure to check out all that the local library offers.

15 Summer Boredom Busters For Kids

Summer Jobs

A job at a local business teaches responsibility and puts some extra money in kids pockets. When getting a real job isn’t possible because of age or other circumstances, have kids look for other opportunities, such as babysitting and mowing lawns. Or make a list of odd jobs around the house that need to be done.

No matter what the job, working helps kids feel a sense of worth for their contribution. It also helps them value the work that their parents and other adults do. It keeps them busy and beat summer boredom, which was the original point of it all. And they have some money to spend to entertain themselves when they aren’t working!

Summer Boredom Busters For Tweens and Teens

Keep tweens and teens busy by engaging them in volunteer activities. There are plenty of organizations that would appreciate help. Have the kids take charge of identifying places where they might volunteer, such as the Red Cross, food banks, soup kitchens, nursing homes, or hospitals. Some churches have lists of shut-ins who would enjoy a visit from a young person. Helping others helps kids appreciate a world beyond MTV and Facebook.

Kids Creative Activities for Summer Vacation

The idle days of summer are a great time to learn to do something new. Ask kids to think of something they’d like to learn, and then have them research and plan how to do it. Look for art or woodworking classes, karate schools, or fly fishing workshops. Let their imagination roll, but be sure to talk about budget first!

Kids who like to work with arts and crafts can make gifts to put away for friends and family as occasions arise. On rainy summer days, you can have fun printables for kids ready for them to make at home, the cottage, or while camping. Some craft shops and fabric stores schedule how-to activities for customers at the store or online. These are beneficial on several counts: the kids spend time learning to do something new; after the workshop, they can spend time practicing at home; then they spend time using their new skill to create things.

15 Summer Boredom Busters

Summer vacation allows for time to get into projects, like redecorating a bedroom or tearing apart an old car. Again, it’s important for parents to set boundaries on how much of their time and money they will invest. Challenging kids to work on their own with a limited budget forces them to be resourceful and gives them a sense of accomplishment. And it keeps them busy!

15 Summer Boredom Busters For Kids

1. Cactus Painted Rocks

Spend an afternoon with your kids creating a beautiful cactus-painted rock garden together. With the warm weather and summer approaching, you and your family are probably enjoying the outdoors more, so why not pick up some rocks along your travels. Rock painting is really popular right now and the possibilities are endless.

2. Lego Fidget Spinner

Rather than buying fidget spinners and risking buying a fidget spinner with lead contamination, make your own at home with LEGOS!

3. Egg Carton Rainbows

This fun and colorful rainbow craft cloud makes cool art to display or share. Made from a recycled egg carton, it’s a perfect spring craft to make together with your kids.

How Can Online Learning Help Your Career Progression?

0

Feeling disillusioned with work is an issue many people face on a daily basis. It can be an incredibly testing time, complete with all the stress and anxiety that might arises due to becoming trapped in a motionless career. Thankfully, online learning opportunities have made it possible for determined workers to craft their own path, thus creating new chances to regain a passion for their vocation.

If you have begun to feel like your current career is hindering your true creativity and dulling your skillset, it might be worth turning your attention to the digital world for support.

online learning

A Positive New Direction

It can be difficult to find a new direction when it seems like there is nowhere to turn to, be it through lack of contacts or a missing qualification.

Studying a degree online may be the answer you were looking for to start moving your career along a positive new trajectory.

This is partly down to the many resources that learning institutions will have at their disposal and the plethora of interesting, like-minded individuals you will likely meet throughout the duration of your time spend studying, even if that is in a virtual capacity.

Catered For Your Circumstances

The flexibility aspect of online learning is indeed an enticing concept for many, but you may also acquire the chance to choose the perfect degree for your current circumstances.

For example, if you never got the opportunity to finally study for a master’s degree or an MBA the online alternative may be able to fit alongside your specific working requirements and even use them to help boost the quality of your education.

You may find it beneficial to compare different programs to understand their requirements and their benefits to you. For example, this is a great blog about the differences between MBAs and engineering management master’s degrees.

Upskilling

Striving to complete an online degree course as you go about your everyday work is, in some sense, working towards upskilling yourself.

Upskilling can be an important part of navigating the requirements of a sustainable career, as learning new techniques to complete familiar undertakings is a great way to optimize your working day.

As the world of work continues to evolve, so too must your professional skillset if you aim to be a forward-thinking and highly competent worker.

How Can Online Learning Help Your Career Progression?

Applying Your New Knowledge

The chance to actively apply your new knowledge as soon as you learn it from the course is a wonderful way to support theory through practice.

This can be a huge advantage in the workplace, as you will be able to cement the course’s teachings in your mind, hopefully, to a tremendously positive effect. For example, you may be supplied with the theory and knowledge to back-up your decision-making, hone your problem-solving and even guide your colleagues throughout their working day.

If there was a problem that you could not yet see an answer to at work or did not know how to begin tackling it in the first place, your online course could provide quick answers to long-standing problems.

Shortening The Skill Divide

If your access to promising career opportunities has been compromised by a lack of knowledge, training, or experience, you will likely have found yourself in many frustrating situations.

The step up to the next level can be a steep one, particularly if there is a skill divide between you and a managerial position that you were holding out for.

Completing a degree online can drastically shorten that skill divide, potentially giving you a greater chance at finally taking receiving a promotion. Even if you know you are the perfect person for the job, simply stating this is the case is usually not enough.

A degree represents the evidence that can help your claim, and they are often highly respected qualifications that are recognized by employers everywhere.

Affordability

Aside from the everyday essentials that students often need to spend a great deal of their money on, such as rent and commuting costs, many online degrees also offer a cheaper alternative to the education itself.

Unfortunately, financial barriers are a prominent reason why many people do not get the chance to go to college in their youth, a factor that can be countered by the inherent affordability of the online alternative.

This can be a superb way to help save your wallet yet still help you open doors through which you can progress your career.

It Can Help Your Time-Management Skills

Working alongside studying is not only possible, but it is also immensely popular, and it can work well provided you possess the right time management skills.

By scheduling both work and study commitments into your new routine, you might be able to expect your organizational prowess reaches new heights in relatively little time.

It Shows You Are Committed To Professional Development

One of the best additions to a resume is possibly an entry that can highlight your staying power and ability to commit to a cause. A degree can be a wonderful example of this, particularly when you have dedicated yourself to obtaining one alongside a regular day job.

Many employers are on the lookout for candidates willing to constantly strive to develop themselves professionally, as it shows a great level of tenacity, drive, and reliability.

Proving to your would-be employers that you have the desire to keep learning will no doubt put you in good standings the next time you go for a new role.

Personal Development Opportunities

The realm of education is not only a superb place to develop your professional skills but your personal ones as well.

Interacting with people from a multitude of different cultures and backgrounds can nurture your perspective on life, inform a positive worldview, and help your interpersonal skills flourish.

These are all pertinent factors to the progression of a career, as they translate well into the working environment.

Making Lasting Friendships

Whether it is with your fellow students or the tutors themselves, the opportunities to make lasting friendships and important connections can carry over into the working world when you least expect it.

Conclusion

Online learning is a fantastic new resource that has grown leaps and bounds in recent years to become a legitimate way of learning and obtaining critical information. As this article has detailed, there are countless courses that you can enrol in that when completed can aid in your further development and give you the skills required to land that dream role. With you being able to study them in your free time, and with them being cheaper too, it’s no surprise that these course will grow to be even more popular and viable.

Super Easy Chocolate Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich

2

Every once in a while, I try something out just for fun or for a change of pace and it turns out to be an addiction for me. I just started making this chocolate stuffed cookie ice cream sandwich recipe and I don’t know when I will ever be able to stop!

Ice Cream Sandwich

Easy Dessert Limited Only By Freezer Space

The kicker for me is how easily I can make a whole lot of these cookie ice cream sandwiches at once. They are easy to store in the freezer and there is little to no prep I have to do in the kitchen. The hardest thing is letting the ice cream refreeze, but I promise you, you will get through this. Making these intoxicatingly decadent ice cream sandwiches requires you to spread softened ice cream across a baking sheet. Then when it’s frozen again, you simply cut it with a cookie-cutter and sandwich the little ice cream circles between two too-good-to-be-true chocolate stuffed chocolate cookies.

What Are Chocolate Stuffed Cookies?

Chocolate stuffed cookies are thicker cookies stuffed with gooey chocolate inside. They’re like the lava cake of cookies. Think about the difference between a scoop of ice cream and a scoop of ice cream topped with fudge and sprinkles. Chocolate stuffed cookies are an essential part of this recipe, but you can use other cookies to make the ice cream sandwich. Chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich is a a very popular choice.

Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich

The most important thing is more the size of the cookie in relation to the cookie cutter you use for the ice cream; however, chocolate stuffed cookies add an extra richness to this homemade ice cream sandwich recipe that makes it more enjoyable. You can buy chocolate stuffed cookies at the store, or you can make them at home. The benefit of homemade chocolate stuffed cookies is that you can size them with the same cookie cutter.

This recipe is great because it lets you make several cookie ice cream sandwiches at once with hardly any trouble at all; however, you may not have the right size cookie cutter for the job and you may be reluctant to buy a new one. If this is the case, you can still use all the ingredients here to make individual chocolate stuffed cookie ice cream sandwiches. Simply spread the desired amount of softened ice cream onto one cookie and add another one to the top.

Nail Polish Dipped Marbled Seashell Decor

10

My absolute favourite craft is the kind that makes your home look fancier with little cost and little additional effort. Such is the case with my seashell decor which is made with nail polish.

Nail Polish Dipped Marbled Seashell Decor

Seashell Decor that Breaks Free from Coastal Theming

Seashells make great decor if you are going for a certain look or a theme. Themed rooms are a lot of fun to make, but you might prefer to leave your indoor environments a little more open-ended. Altering your seashell decor can open up your room to more possibilities by breaking free of a rigid seashore theme. Repurposing elements found in nature and turning them into art is a beautiful way to add accents and create focal points that can add character to a room without taking anything away.

Seashell Decor with Marbled Effect Using Nail Polish Dip

An Extravagant Look for Seashell Decor

I like to create a marbled look on seashells that feels more like something you might buy at an expensive home goods store. It’s a look that adds pop and flare, but it is easy to make and not nearly as expensive as it might look. You can use this approach to marble similar items as well, not only seashells; however, the marbled look that the nail polish dip provides works exceptionally well with the surface texture of the shells.

Seashell Decor with Marbled Effect Using Nail Polish Dip

Nail Polish Dipped Marbled Seashell Decor

Materials Needed

  • Medium bowl of lukewarm water
  • Seashells in all shapes and sizes
  • Tweezers (I used a large plastic pair from the Dollar Tree, but any tweezers could be used, or even a pair of tongs)
  • 6-8 cotton swab sticks
  • 4-6 toothpicks
  • Paper towels
  • Scrap piece of foam board, or plate covered in wax paper
  • Nail polish in varying colours

How To Make the Seashell Decor Using Nail Polish Dip

Make sure you are working in a very well ventilated area. The nail polish has a very strong scent, so it’s best to do this project outside, or with the windows open.

Step 1: Start by filling a medium bowl with lukewarm water. If the water is too cold, the nail polish won’t spread easily.

Nail Polish Dipped Marbled Seashell in process Decor

Step 2: Open the lid to each nail polish you will be using. The nail polish dries on the surface of the water very quickly, so it’s important to work as fast as possible, and having the nail polish open helps speed up the process.

Seashell Decor Using Nail Polish Dip in process

Step 3: Starting with your first bottle of nail polish, hold the brush as close to the water as possible, and shake gently until the nail polish drips on the surface. If you drop the polish from too far above, it will sink to the bottom. Add additional colours to the water, and then using a toothpick, lightly swirl the colours together.

Step 4: Remember the nail polish will dry rather quickly, so as soon as you finish swirling, hold the seashell with tweezers, dip into the water, then remove and place on the foam board to dry.

Step 5: I was able to dip 1-2 seashells at a time before the nail polish dried on the surface of the water. Once you have dipped the seashells, use a toothpick or cotton swab stick to swirl the remaining nail polish off the surface, and discard on a paper towel.

Seashell Decor Using Nail Polish Dip in process

Step 6: Repeat the process of dripping nail polish on the surface of the water, and dipping each seashell. You will also have to repeat the process of cleaning the excess off the surface with a toothpick or cotton swab stick.

Step 7: Once all seashells have been dipped in the nail polish, leave them on the foam board until they are completely dry. Once dry, they are ready to be enjoyed as decoration.

Why Should You Further Your Education?

2

There are many benefits to furthering your education, undertaking extra qualifications and embarking on more training opportunities. You may feel, however, that they are not necessary as you already have a job or a degree. However, with the increasing competitiveness in many fields and industries, having more qualifications can help to set your application apart from the rest. If you are looking to change career and need to retrain or are wanting to further your passion and interest in your job, then undertaking the different kinds of further education options could help you achieve your aims.

What are the options?

When it comes to progressing your education beyond your current level, there are many different options to choose from. Some roles, such as medicine, require you to hold a specific level of qualification, while others allow you to learn on the job. One popular option is a master’s degree, which is typically completed after you have done your bachelor’s degree. However, there are different kinds of master’s degrees, depending on the subject you are studying.

For example, when thinking about Public Safety degrees, there are four different types of master’s courses that you could study. These are:

  • MBA- this is a Master of Business Administration, and it is popular with those who wish to hold management or leadership roles. MBAs are concerned with topics such as business ethics, organizational behaviour and management. Graduates work in a range of settings such as financial or healthcare organizations.
  • MPA- this is a Master of Public Administration and is concerned with different areas of government and leadership. When studying an MPA you will learn about the development, management and implementation of policy, and can work in settings including nonprofits as directors, or in management consulting. The main difference between the MBA and the MPA is the focus toward the area in which you would like to gain the leadership skills to allow you to apply for jobs in those fields. In the former, the focus is on business and management and in the latter, public and nonprofit sectors.
  • Master of Arts in Police Studies- this course is for police officers, in which students learn about social justice, crime and forensics.
  • MPS- this is a Master of Public Safety, and this degree combines the best of the previous three. It is for those who want to work in high-ranking public safety roles, as it combines crime reduction, leadership skills and policy analysis, preparing you to work in a role that aligns with one of the four pillars of Public Safety Canada. These are emergency management, countering crime, border strategies and national security.

These are only a few of the further education and qualification options available within a specific industry or field, and you will need to research the levels of experience and qualification that your dream job requires you to hold.

Who is it for?

Anyone can further their education, for personal or professional reasons, or a combination of both. If you are looking to change careers, master’s degrees or online programs can be a great way to do this, as you can choose a course that is flexible and works around your existing commitments. Furthermore, you can bring you prior experiences to your new studies, which can offer new perspectives and the chance to build upon skills you already have. Some jobs require specific qualifications, and therefore you will need to plan out your educational journey towards achieving these career goals. It is important to plan ahead, but keep an open mind, as you may find that your aims or goals change, and you may become interested in different subjects or areas.

What are the benefits?

There are plenty of benefits to furthering your education and training, and these can be personal and professional. If you are considering taking a master’s degree, or other type of educational course, it could provide you with great experiences and opportunities, as well as the chance to grow as a person and meet others who are interested in the same fields as you.

Courses

When it comes to further education after school or college, there are so many different courses to choose from and you will be able to find your perfect fit. It is very common to study completely or partially online as this makes the courses more accessible and flexible, but this will of course depend on the subject you are studying. In addition to the different subjects and courses, there is the chance to choose from a range of styles of learning and levels of qualification, so that you can pursue the exact qualification that you need. In general, higher levels of education can provide you with more freedom, helping you make your learning experience as flexible and tailored as you require, with online courses, short courses, part-time learning and full-time learning all common options.

Opportunities

Another one of the benefits of furthering your education is the huge range of opportunities that may become available to you when you are studying at an educational institution. As well as the increased job opportunities, you will also have more chances to interact with fellow students and industry professionals. You may not have access to these kinds of events or people outside of an academic environment, and opportunities may also be more frequent.

Career Outcomes

In general, with a higher level of qualifications comes higher level jobs, and they often have higher salaries. In this way, further education may be a worthy investment. There are also certain jobs and professions that require specific qualifications, so it important to look at the educational requirements of roles and jobs that you want to work in, to make sure you can plan accordingly so that you are actually qualified to apply for these roles. With a master’s level degree, you could be earning around 40-47% more than your undergraduate counterparts.

Skills

In many professions, you need to be willing to constantly learn and adapt, and having a master’s degree shows employers that you are able to learn and are passionate about taking on new information. The medical and technological industries are good examples of this, as technology and ideas are always changing and advancing. Those working in these fields need to be willing to learn constantly and be able to take on new information efficiently. This keeps them at the forefront of the industry. If you are interested in career progression, then a master’s degree could be a stepping-stone on your journey to reaching your ultimate career or educational goal.

Why Should You Further Your Education?

How should you study?

With so many courses to choose from, there are also many different ways to study. One of the most flexible and popular options is to take an online course. Depending on the subject and institution, you may be able to study completely online, or the course may use blended learning. This is a combination of online study and in-person learning. Online courses are beneficial for many different reasons. They can help to lower the costs of education, making it more affordable for many people.

When it comes to studying, there are plenty of costs that accompany it, such as tuition, rent, travel and living costs. With online courses, many of these costs can be reduced or even completely removed, and you may also have the option to study alongside your job, which means that you can continue to earn money while you learn. The tuition fees for some online courses may also be cheaper, and you could still be eligible for financial support and student discounts.

Furthermore, online learning gives you the opportunity to develop important personal skills. On top of the technical skills you will learn on your course, there are a set of personal, transferrable skills called soft skills, that can also be developed. These include traits such as communication, teamwork, self-motivation and conflict resolution, and help you thrive in the workplace. For example, organization and time management are soft skills that you will be using throughout your online studies, especially if you are working alongside your course. You will need to be focused and motivated, and be able to schedule your time in order to complete you course and any other tasks you have. This will provide you with practical examples of times when you have used these skills that you can give to employers in an interview.

There are plenty of benefits to furthering your education, and it can be a worthy investment. You will have the chance to develop both personally and professionally, as well as have access to opportunities and resources that you may not have had access to outside of an educational environment. It can help to plan ahead if you are sure of your career goals, so that you understand the path you need to take. However, you can also choose to pursue an area of study just for the enjoyment, or because you are passionate about the subject. Furthering your education gives you the chance to delve deeper into a subject and broaden your knowledge and skillset.

5. Enjoy Hiking At Cheakamus Lake Trail

It takes about four to six hours to hike to the mountain-lined lake, but the views are worth it. Due to its flatness, you don’t have to be physically fit to finish it. It’s less than 3 kilometres from the trailhead to the lake, so you can hike as long as you like, which is excellent for children who aren’t up for the entire adventure. It’s even great for your elderly loved ones too. Prepare for a postcard-perfect Whistler panorama when you reach the elevated areas.

6. Have A Black Bear Tour

In Whistler Village, visitors see many signs indicating bears are roaming in the area. A black bear population of about 70 lives in the resort area. The Whistler Gondola offers a good view of them since they’re active in the mountains. If you want to get an up-close look, book a guided tour where you can stay safely in a 4×4 vehicle.

As you prepare your road trip packing checklist, ensure to bring your camera and binoculars!

7. Ride A Gondola From Peak To Peak

You can ride the Gondola Peak 2 Peak with the whole family. The Whistler Blackcomb Gondola lift hangs 436 metres above the ground between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. In addition to transporting skiers up the hill, the ride also gives you a better view from above. Whistler’s Winter Wonderland can be seen from up above in your seat.

8. Practice Your Axe-Throwing Skills

The Forged Axe Throwing activity at Function Junction lets you get in touch with your lumberjack side. For axe throwing lessons, adults and children ten years old and older can use small hatchets or full-sized axes.

This is a great activity to enjoy with your family or a group for an hour or so. After a fun practice of targeting the bullseye, you can all pause for a break at the Whistler Brewing Company nearby. This place is also children-friendly, so it’s great for the entire family.

9. Try Dog Sledding

Dog sledding is another winter must-do in Whistler. Take advantage of this unique fun activity with your loved ones. Experience the cold air as dogs run through the fresh snow while you ride on a sled. You can even teach your kids all about the animals and have them practice the commands mushers use to lead the dogs through the snowy surfaces.

Mars Bars Popsicles Recipe

3

For those who know what a Mars bar is, you understand the pleasure of diving into a frozen treat like Mars Bars Popsicles. Mars bars aren’t everywhere, so if this Milky Way cousin is a favourite of yours, you may find yourself questing for this sweet treat at convenience stores wherever you go.

Mars Bars Popsicles

Mars Bar VS Milky Way

The Mars bar ingredients are similar to a Milky Way. Chocolate, Nougat, and Caramel (or the resemblance thereof) make up each of these bars; however, one enjoys more popularity in Canada, while the other reigns supreme in the UK.

Mars Bars are unique to the United Kingdom, although sometimes they pop up in specialty shops here and there. If you ask most people, they’ll tell you that Mars bars are the same thing as a Milky Way. In one way they are almost right; however, these similar-looking treats are more different than they let on. When you look at the two side by side, it’s obvious that they are not identical. There is something that causes their overall look to change even though they appear to have the same ingredients and the same composition. As mentioned above, Mars bars crumble more easily and have a softer chocolate coating.

Why Mars Bars Popsicles?

Mars bars crumble easily and have a soft chocolate coating. This makes them more ideal for freezing and using them in a popsicle recipe.

Mars Bars Popsicles

A Very Brief History

The history of the Mars Bar is that Mars bars started out with the Milky Way recipe. It was merely altered with comparable ingredients. The Mars bar was created by Forrest Mars, the son of Frank C. Mars, the inventor of the Milky Way. The ingredients differ throughout the bars’ composition, but it’s true that the basic components (chocolate, caramel, nougat) are essentially the same. So, you can substitute a Milky Way for a similar tasting treat. I still don’t know why this family feud began or why Mars was made in England. Milky Way is from Minnesota.

25 Camping Pancake Recipe Ideas

3

The pancakes you cook over your camp stove, grill, or campfire will be just as good as the pancakes you make at home and everyone will love them! These 25 camping pancake recipe ideas are so easy to prepare at a campground.

25 Camping Pancake Recipe Ideas

Picture the setting: You are sitting at a campground overlooking a beautiful little lake as birds and other wildlife awaken from their slumber. Nearby, the campfire is crackling. In your hands, you hold a steaming cup of hot coffee, and in your lap is a plate with delicately cooked pancakes, dripping in syrup. All the elements are there for a splendid camping breakfast experience.

Camping Cooking Tips

Making good pancakes in camp, is much like making them at home, though cooking over a camp stove or campfire can be a challenge if you aren’t used to cooking over flames. The pancakes are mixed in the same way, either from scratch or by using pancake mix. You can even make your own pancake mix before leaving home, by combining the dry ingredients and putting these in a container that can be sealed.

Don’t Over Mix The Pancake Batter

The first tip is to not over mix the pancake batter once the ingredients are combined. This is true at home as well as in camp. Over mixing can cause the pancakes to be rubbery once they are cooked. This mistake is commonly made. Also, opt for slightly thicker batter rather than thin batter. Thin batter cooks to fast.

Cooking Surface

Another commonly made mistake is cooking the pancake in a pan or griddle that is too hot, or conversely, too cold. Again, this is true at home and in camp, but many people find it a little more difficult in camp because the campfire and camp stove tend to heat things so quickly. It takes some practice to learn to make sure the cooking surface isn’t too hot or cold. Oil or grease should not be so hot that they smoke, however. It does take a bit more time to cook the pancake in a cooler pan, but it is worth it.

25 Camping Pancake Recipe Ideas

How To Make Good Pancakes For Camping

When you are camping, don’t overcook the pancakes. If you do, they will be more suited for playing Frisbee than for eating.

When you ladle the batter into the pan or griddle, you should see small bubbles forming as the pancake begins to cook. When the bubbles have popped to about 1/2 inch from the edge, turn the pancake with a spatula and cook the other side slightly less time. This should give you pancakes that are light golden brown.

Use only enough oil, butter, or grease to lubricate the pan or skillet. Remember that you aren’t trying to deep fat fry the pancakes, you just want to prevent them from sticking.

pancakes on plates

Adding Wild Berries

The part that makes pancakes while camping superior to those made at home is that you can add wild berries you might find while camping, to the pancake batter, prior to cooking. Wild blueberries, huckleberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and thimbleberries are all appropriate, and they all give extra flavour to the pancakes. They can also be mixed together.

Beer Pancakes

Another great touch is to substitute an equal amount of beer for half the water in the batter. It makes no difference if the beer is flat. This will give the pancakes a yeasty flavour not unlike sourdough pancakes. Take care, however, because the yeast in the beer will also cause the pancakes to rise. It’s best is you use a light lager.

Maple Syrup

Don’t for forget to bring a bottle of maple syrup to pour over the delicious camping pancakes. For a special treat, make your own maple syrup. It isn’t hard to do, and it enhances the flavour while naturally going with the setting of camp.

A little practice is usually necessary for camping recipes; however it isn’t tremendously difficult to make good pancakes for your family while at camp. Give it a try, and you may find that you will find yourself plugged in to the opening scene.

Childproofing Your Kid’s Playroom In 4 Easy Steps

Becoming a parent and taking care of a child is a full-time job. You’ll need to make adjustments in your life and your home. It’s normal for kids to trip or wobble when they start learning how to walk. They’ll also grow curious about their surroundings and try to roam around the house as they get older. There’ll be times when they’ll fall on the floor and accidentally acquire things that may hurt them. Hence, you need to ensure that there aren’t any safety hazards inside your house that could harm your child when you’re not watching them.

Childproofing Your Kid’s Playroom In 4 Easy Steps

If you don’t know where to start childproofing, you can begin with your kid’s playroom. After all, this is where they’ll spend most of their time. Here are some steps you can follow to modify their room.

1. Pick The Right Flooring

One significant change you need to prioritize in your child’s playroom is the flooring. The materials you’ll use for the floor will play a part in keeping them safe and free from accidents. You’ll also need to think about the cost, longevity, and maintenance of the materials. For instance, tile flooring may be more expensive than adding mats to the room. They can also be more slippery, which may cause your child to slip or fall.

You can consider some options for your child’s playroom like domestic and exotic hardwood flooring, laminated flooring, or large play mats. These types of materials are long-lasting and easy to clean. This means you won’t have a hard time cleaning the area after your child finishes playing. They’re also resistant to moisture, so you won’t need to worry about your child accidentally falling on the floor if they ever spill something.

2. Pick The Right Toys

Providing various toys to your child may be beneficial to their development. It can help them learn different skills and also keep them occupied most of the day. However, you need to be meticulous when selecting which toys to give to your kid since there may be items that won’t suit their age.

Before you allow your kid to play with new stuff, you should check if they’re not too small or contain harmful chemicals first. Your child may put their toys inside their mouths when you’re not looking. They can choke if their playthings are too small and fit their mouths easily. Some things may also contain foreign substances that can make them sick once it enters their system.

You should check the label or read reviews about the toys you want to purchase to ensure that they’re safe for kids. It would be best if you’ll also put a place to store all the toys when they’re not in use. They can cause your child to slip in the playroom if they’re left scattered on the floor. Hence, you need to find ways to store toys properly to prevent any accidents.

outlet cover

3. Keep Electrical Wiring And Outlets Out Of Reach

If you’ll convert a room into a playroom that already has built-in outlets, you don’t have a lot of options to keep them out of your child’s reach. There are many households with outlets installed close to the floor, which a kid can easily access. The wires of your appliances can also become safety concerns if they aren’t secured properly.

One way to ensure that your child will be safe in the playroom is by covering all the outlets and wiring. You can purchase or make outlet covers and install them on all the reachable wall plugs inside the room. You can then secure the wires by tying them together or securing them on the wall high enough to keep them isolated from your child. This way, they won’t hang loose and pose a threat to your toddler’s safety.

You may also block the outlets and wirings with furniture like a cabinet or a chair to divert your child’s attention away from them.

soft gel cover for furniture

4. Cover Or Remove Anything Sharp

Another vital step you need to remember when childproofing the playroom is covering and removing anything sharp. Before you allow your kid to roam freely in the room, you should check if there aren’t any exposed edges or pointy objects present first.

The corners of the furniture can hurt your child if they bump into them. Likewise, sharp items can poke on their skin and cause cuts or wounds. Thus, it’s essential to remove or cover them up to protect your child from accidents.

You can purchase soft gel or foam pipe covers for the edges of all the tables or cabinets inside the playroom. If you have a tight budget, you may utilize DIY covers like pool noodles to childproof your furniture.

Refrain from giving your child objects like pencils or sticks if they’re too young to use those items properly. Instead, pick stout and thick things that are easy to hold to prevent them from hurting themselves.

Final Thoughts

Childproofing your kid’s playroom will take some work. You’ll need to check every corner and ensure that there aren’t any materials that will potentially turn into a safety hazard. But, once you successfully turn the room into a safe space, you’ll feel more at ease knowing that your child will be free from harm.
