Why Are Resumes so Important for Getting a Job?

0

Everyone dreams about having the perfect job, but how to actually get it is a whole other story entirely. Thankfully, a well-crafted resume can be a good trick to bag the job you want. Yet, just about any resume won’t work—it has to stand out from the rest. For that, you have to say to yourself, “I want to build my resume in the best way possible”—and then actually do it!

Why Are Resumes so Important for Getting a Job?

If you’ve already been looking for a job for some time now, then you already know the competition that you’re up against when applying to places. A resume is the perfect way to show that you are different and more capable than the crowd. Let’s go over some important reasons why you need the perfect resume and how it can help you get that dream job.

The Overall Importance Of Resumes

A good resume shows what you are good at and what you have learned, and it tells the employer if you have what it takes for the job. After all, a resume is the only acceptable place to shamelessly brag about yourself, so it’s wise to take advantage of that and leverage it to your benefit.

Every recruiter wants a candidate who pays attention to the details—so if you want to be that candidate, you have to submit a mistake- and typo-free resume. It tells the employer that you are very careful and actually care about the job. A lot of candidates out there just apply for a job just for the sake of it, and you don’t want to be that person—so do your best to avoid grammar mistakes

How Resumes Can Help You Get Jobs

In the modern employment market, prospective employers often look you up online before they hire you. Of course, nobody will hire you unless they are sure that you are right for the job. Your online presence is often checked by recruiters, and a resume is a gateway to do just that. When you put your LinkedIn information on the resume, a recruiter can cross-check it.

Helps with Meeting New People

A good resume does more than just help you find a job, you can also share it when you meet new people in your field. After all, networking is the name of the game, people! It helps them see what you can do, and who knows, they might even help you find a job.

Proves You’re a Serious Candidate

When you have a well-written resume, it shows that you’re not here to play around—you’re serious want to find a job. Plus, it shows that you’re ready and willing to put in the effort that’s needed for the position—what else can a recruiter want? Well, actually plenty as it turns out, but having a resume is a good start. After all, you don’t want to waste your or the recruiter’s time.

Makes You Stand Out Better

Lots of people apply for the same job—but when you have a good resume, your chances are a little higher to get noticed. Of course, you still have to put in the effort, since a resume can’t do everything for you.

Connects with Your Cover Letter

Your resume and cover letter go hand in hand with each other, and it wouldn’t make sense to have one without the other. Also, when well-crafted, both are a great way to show that you are a great fit for the job. A resume can show off your skills and experiences, and a cover letter can talk about your story while adding a personal touch.

Staying Organized To Secure That Position

Unless you’re extremely lucky, you probably won’t get the first job you apply for. The truth is that you typically have to apply for plenty of jobs, which can quickly become confusing or unorganized if you’re unprepared.

For example, you might lose track of all of the applications you send in and interviews you have to undertake—but thankfully, having a solid resume helps keep things organized. You can quickly refer to it before an interview to remind yourself of all your qualifications. Plus, personalization in the resume also helps to repeat why you are good for the particular company you’re interviewing for.

Crafting the perfect resume is nerve-wracking, isn’t it? Well don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it as you go along. But, no matter what job you’re applying for, having a solid resume to send in is a must. It’s more than something you have to do, it’s a way to make employers take notice of you and help you get that job.

Essential Parenting Skills You Can Learn Before Your Baby Arrives

0

Nobody is born knowing exactly how to be a parent. We might have some instincts we can follow and things we can learn along the way, but every new parent has a pretty steep learning curve ahead of them. Even if you have previous experience with babies and children, whether at work or in your personal life, actually being a full-time parent is different. But don’t worry if you’re concerned about getting it right when your baby arrives. There’s time to brush up on some basic skills and knowledge so you feel more prepared. And remember that every parent gets it a little wrong sometimes too.

Feeding

When your baby arrives, they won’t do much but eat, sleep, pee, and poop. They might be adorable, but they have some pretty basic needs in the beginning. One of the most important things is obviously feeding your baby, something that you’re going to be doing every few hours. Whether you breastfeed or bottle feed, learning how to do it safely and efficiently will obviously help you a lot. And although you can’t practice for real until your baby arrives, there are resources and even classes that can help you out. Get some tips from other parents and from experts to help you prepare.

Essential Parenting Skills You Can Learn Before Your Baby Arrives

Changing Diapers

It’s definitely not the most pleasant bit of being a parent, but babies need to be changed regularly. You need to know how often to change a diaper, how to clean your baby up properly, how to prevent diaper rash, and how to secure a new diaper. It’s also important to make sure you change diapers safely, especially if you’re planning to use a changing table. And if you’re planning to use cloth diapers, that adds a couple more things you need to learn too. You can try practicing these things on a doll, unless you have a baby you can borrow from a friend or family member. But even if you don’t get a chance to give it a go, just knowing the theory can be helpful.

Dressing Your Baby

Getting a baby dressed might seem like it would be simple. But babies are wriggly and trying to get their head, arms, and legs inside their clothes can be harder than you think. You also need to know what to dress them in to ensure they’re safe and comfortable. Your baby needs to be warm but not too warm. The rule is generally that they should have one more layer than you. You can watch videos on how to dress your baby gently and safely. Make sure you’re guiding their arms and legs, not pulling on them, and ensure they’re safe when using a changing table.

Dressing your baby for the weather can be tricky. In hot weather, it’s crucial to prevent your baby from overheating. If you’re going outside, you should also make sure your baby stays in the shade as much as possible. A sun hat will keep the sun off their face, and it’s also important to remember sunscreen. When it’s cold, your baby needs enough layers to keep them warm both inside and outside. How much you need to dress them up will depend on just how cold it is.

Putting Your Baby to Bed

Safe sleeping practices are essential to learn about before your baby arrives. They help to reduce the risk of SIDS, but they’re also there to help you and your baby get a good night’s sleep. Learning how to practice safe sleep early will help you to remember the rules even when you’re at your most tired.

Some of the things to remember include:

  • Place your baby to sleep on their back – babies should only sleep on their front when they are able to roll over both ways
  • Your baby should sleep on a firm mattress, with their feet at the end
  • Don’t share a bed with your baby or sleep with them on a chair or couch
  • Keep your baby’s head uncovered – blankets should be tucked in and no higher than their shoulders
  • Keep any toys or other objects out of the crib
  • Your baby should sleep in the same room as you for the first six months

How to Give Baby a Bath

Bath time can be a lovely experience with your baby. It’s a good time for bonding, and it’s a nice way to wind down before bedtime. But knowing how to give your baby a bath safely is important if you want it to be a good experience. Your baby doesn’t need to have a bath every day. In fact, sometimes it might not be recommended to do so, especially for babies with dry skin conditions or very sensitive skin. Instead, you can wipe their face, neck, hands, and bottom.

Skills You Can Learn Before Your Baby Arrives

But when you do give your baby a bath, make sure you start with warm water that’s not too hot or too cold. You can just use plain water in the first month, but you might choose to use baby soap and shampoo later. Support your baby in the water, keeping their head clear, and gently move the water over their body. You might want to wash their face and hair before this, holding your baby on your knee to make it a little easier. You can bathe with your baby too, but it’s helpful to have someone else to hold them while you get in and out.

How to Work Various Baby Equipment

You can get by without too much stuff when you have a newborn, but you can also find that you quickly accumulate a lot of stuff. Some of the baby items you use can take some practice to use, so it’s definitely worth spending some time figuring out how they work. This can include things like your car seat, stroller, or baby carrier, or gadgets like bottle sterilizers and warmers. Giving these things a couple of test runs is really helpful if you want to be able to use them for real later on. Knowing how to fold and unfold your stroller or work your baby monitor will really help you out. And if anything doesn’t work, it’s best to know now rather than when you really need it.

Calming a Crying Baby

Of course, newborns have one main way of communicating with you, and that’s crying. When you’re dealing with the shock of being a new parent and lacking sleep, your baby crying can sometimes feel like the worst thing in the world. And knowing how to get them to stop isn’t always easy. Babies may cry for lots of reasons, but they’re ultimately telling you they’re not happy. There are a few things you will want to check off when your baby cries to work out what might be wrong.

  • Is your baby hungry or thirsty?
  • Does your baby’s diaper need changing?
  • Is your baby too hot or too cold?
  • Is your baby windy?
  • Does your baby want some attention?
  • Is your baby feeling unwell?
Parenting Skills You Can Learn Before Your Baby Arrives

If you’ve checked all of these things and your baby is still crying, you could try a couple of things to help. A baby massage, a cuddle, singing a song, or maybe going for a walk could all help both you and your baby calm down. If you’ve checked that your baby is safe and healthy, there’s no harm in putting them down and stepping away for a few minutes if you’re finding it overwhelming. It’s better to take some time to collect yourself with some deep breaths than to risk losing your temper or getting too upset.

How to Bond with Your Baby

Your baby might not do much when they’ve just been born, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spend time bonding. In fact, it might be the best time because your baby is right there with you at all times. There are lots of ways you can bond with your baby and form that connection between you. Skin-to-skin contact is a great way to bond, helping your baby to get used to your touch and smell. Talking and singing to your baby is a good way to connect too. You can simply narrate what you’re doing if you’re not sure what to say, or it’s never too early to read to your baby.

How to Safely Leave Your Baby Alone

Even, or maybe especially, new parents need time to themselves. At some point, you have to go to the bathroom, take a shower, or just take a moment on your own. When you leave your baby alone, you just have to make sure you do it safely. Check that they can’t fall off anything when you leave them. Make sure that siblings or pets can’t accidentally hurt them either. Once your baby has started to move around, you’ll also need to check that you’ve baby-proofed your home to prevent any accidents from occurring.

You can’t become a super parent before your baby arrives, and there’ll be a lot to learn along the way. But you can learn some basic skills so you feel a little more prepared.

How To Strengthen Your Relationship As Parents

0

When you become a parent, your priorities are often focused on your children. However, when it comes to the relationship with your significant other, it’s important not to forget about them and their needs. Not only that but your needs are also something that need to be considered.

It’s easy to drop the ball when it comes to strengthening and maintaining the relationship you have with your other half when you become parents. With that being said, here are some helpful relationship advice tips to help strengthen your relationship as parents this year.

Stay calm in an argument

First and foremost, try to stay calm when it comes to arguments. There’s nothing worse than getting hot-headed and therefore saying something in the heat of the moment. Whether you meant it or not, it still came out of your mouth!

Try to remain level-headed when it comes to an argument with your partner. Understand where some of the venting or frustrations might be coming from and take the time to listen to your partner. Hopefully, they’ll give you the same attention and approach back.

Avoid stonewalling conversations

What is stonewalling and how to get rid of it? Stonewalling is where one partner gives up on the argument and checks out. They don’t listen to anything the other partner is saying and it often feels like they’re talking to a stone wall as a result.

This isn’t the best outcome to have in an argument because it can leave things feeling tense and even more strained. Avoid stonewalling conversations and instead, end the conversation to take some time apart. It’s better than simply switching off and becoming unresponsive to your loved one.

Dedicate time together just the two of you

Time together – just the two of you – is a rarity that you want to enforce. It’s something that you want to be mindful of and make time for whenever you can. Of course, time and free time in general is somewhat of a fleeting occurrence when it comes to being parents.

However, there are always opportunities that can be made into time for just the two of you. Whether it’s late at night when the kids have gone to bed, or leaving the grandparents with the children while you go away for the weekend.

Work as a team

Teamwork makes the dream work as the saying goes and that couldn’t be more truthful when it comes to parenthood. It’s important that you’re communicating actively and that you’re managing your time so that each individual is contributing equally to the family unit.

Check-in with your partner, see what percentage they’re operating at, and help pick up the remaining energy so that your partner feels seen and supported.

Accept your partner’s flaws

Your partner’s flaws are something that you might not be able to fix. Everyone has flaws and while some are acceptable, some may be something that you simply have to accept and live with.

Strengthening your relationship as parents is important for the sake of your children. Use these tips to make sure that’s the case for your relationship.

Creating The Ultimate Dream Home Is Easy

1

Have you recently purchased a new house? If so, you may be wanting to create the home you have always dreamed of living in. You might think that creating your dream home takes a lot of time and effort but this isn’t always the case. Take a look at the article below for more ideas.

creating your dream home

Declutter

One of the first things you will need to do when you are creating your dream home is declutter and clear out some of your old belongings. This is to make room for the new items you might be buying and it will also keep your home tidy for longer. A lot of people dread when the time comes to declutter, but there is a super effective way of getting it done. Head to each individual room and sort your items into four different piles. These consist of items you want to keep, throw away, donate, and sell.

Furniture

Next up, what furniture are you going to put inside your home? If you are trying to create a contemporary feel to your home then you will want to keep things light and airy, this includes your furniture. You could opt for lighter coloured sofas and chairs, topped off with a lovely rug in the middle of the room. Have a look online for some inspiration and ideas on how you can fill your home. If you have a room on the smaller side, it is essential you don’t overfill it. This will make it seem much smaller and more cramped which may mean you won’t enjoy being in there.

Curb Appeal

Another thing that you need to think of when creating your dream home is how you want it to look from the outside. It is all well and good having a gorgeous home inside, but the first thing you and others will see is the exterior of your property. Depending on how your home is set up, you may have steps leading up to it or even a driveway. If you are on the hunt for some new, sophisticated steps then take a look at natural stone steps. This will keep your exterior classy while staying practical.

Interior

Finally, when it comes to your dream home you will want to put your own personal stamp on it. This gives you a house that you actively want to come home to at the end of the day. The colour throughout your home is vital, you will have to think of colour psychology here and make sure you choose the right options for you and your family. If you are unsure of which colour  schemes to use then you could take a look online for different options or speak to an expert in store.

We hope you found this article helpful and that it gave you some helpful ideas on how to create the ultimate dream home that you can be proud of. There are endless options for houses these days and it is all about finding the right colours and decor for you.

Finding The Medical Care You Need

1

When you are in need of some medical help, you obviously want to make sure that you can get it as soon as possible. But it is one thing knowing that, and quite another actually managing to find it. Depending on where you are, there are a lot of potential things that might get in the way. In this post, we are going to discuss this unfortunate situation, and find out what you can do to get hold of the medical care you really need more effectively and easily. Let’s take a look at what might be involved here.

Go By Reputation

Where you do have the choice of which medical team to go to, it’s obviously a good idea to go by the reputation of those teams, as that is always going to be a powerful way to find the best available team for your particular needs. You might know someone personally who benefited from some medical care from a particular team, or there might be one that has a good reputation generally in your local area. In either case, it’s something you should pay close attention to as it can often lead you to the best available care.

Getting Referred

Very often, you will be able to get the help you need by getting referred. It is obviously not always possible to do this, but it’s also something that you can sometimes be sure will happen, especially with a certain specific ailment which might befall you. If you think you might need to be referred to a specialist, bear in mind that there is nothing wrong with specifically asking for that from your doctor, as sometimes that’s all that’s required in order to make it a reality. It’s something to think about, in any case.

Being Open To Travel

Unfortunately, it is very often the case that you need to go further afield in order to get the essential treatment that you need. While this is far from ideal, it’s a situation that an increasing number of people find themselves in. You might find that you need to go traveling to a different country just to get the help you need. If so, make sure that you make use of medical tourism specialists. They will help you to plan your trip and put together your plan and itinerary in the way that is best for you, making the whole process less stressful and time-consuming.

medical care

Asking For A Second Opinion

This is a right that you have as a patient at all times, and it’s something that you should bear in mind for sure. While it won’t often be the case that you’ll get a different answer, just asking for a second opinion can help you to really appreciate the truth of what you are being told – and often that can result in a much better chance of actually being able to get the help you need. So never be afraid to ask for a second opinion.

As long as you keep those in mind, you should find you can get the medical care you need, when you need it – and therefore look after your health and wellbeing so much more effectively.

You must have a checking account to take out a personal loan. The lender will require your checking account number and routing number.

Understand the Loan Term and Monthly Payments

The lender will give you the terms of the loan before the application process is complete. Ensure you understand how to make the monthly payments, when the repayment begins, and how many months it lasts.

Typically, you must pay a personal loan a few weeks after you get approved by the lender. Make sure you have the financial means to pay the monthly payments.

Know the Interest Rate

It is a must that you consider the interest rate of a personal loan before applying for it. The interest determines how much you will pay in total. The more expensive the loan if it has a higher interest rate. A specific market may have a standard rate, but your interest rate will vary by lender or your credit score.

Additional Fees

Talk to the lender about any extra fees that may affect the overall costs of your personal loan. Do not be surprised if your personal loan comes with origination, prepayment, or late payment fees because some lenders charge them on their personal loan products. Knowing you have to pay such fees can help you make a wise decision on a particular loan and how you must budget your monthly payments.

Secured vs. Unsecured Personal Loans

  • Secured Personal Loans. There are personal loans that require the borrower to put collateral or security against the money he will borrow. The collateral should have similar value to the loan. Your car, pieces of jewelry, or any valuable property can serve as collateral.
  • Unsecured Personal Loans. This type of personal loan does not require you to provide collateral. Instead, the lender will simply consider your capability to pay back the loan, such as your source of income or credit score. If you have stable monthly income and a high credit score, you will easily get approved for a personal loan.

Takeaway

If you find yourself in a financial situation where you need to borrow money to cover emergency expenses, consider taking out a personal loan. This loan type offers flexible spending, which means you can use the money you borrow for various purposes. Moreover, there are also lenders who can provide personal loans with reasonable and lower interest rates. This is a big win for you as a borrower.

Parental Prep: Readying Ourselves for Our Child’s First Day of School

0

If you speak to any other person that has not got children, one of the hardest things to describe is what their first day of school is actually like. It’s something that comes with mixed emotions, not just from the child’s side but from the parent’s side. Preparing ourselves for the first day of our child’s school involves mental preparation on our part. We went through the school system ourselves, but it’s a completely different concept entirely, so what should we do to prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally?

Preparing ourselves for the first day of our child's school

Acknowledge How We Feel

We can easily bury our heads in the sand and think that we are just overreacting. But anything can set us off. Acknowledging the wide range of emotions, whether it’s pride and joy or worry and sadness, will help us to process this, and this is when we can start to incorporate a practice into our lives that will help us feel more in control of our emotions. Something like night time prayers will ensure we feel like we can go back to something that helps us check in with how we feel and actively process these feelings.

Learn About the School

Our children are not necessarily going into the big wide world, but it can feel like that. What we can do when we are feeling fearful is to learn about the school. We can easily become overprotective parents and think that the school is not going to look after our precious baby. But what we need to do at this point is to develop trust with the school. Learn about the routines the school has in place for younger kids, and you can start to mirror those at home, for example having lunch and encouraging playtime around the same time as the school.

If possible, you can visit the school and get a better understanding of the environment. Most schools provide some form of open day, and if you have additional concerns, for example, if your child has extra needs due to anxiety, it is worth communicating this with the school in advance and visiting the school with your child to get them familiar with the environment so it can be less daunting but also ensure that you are feeling more at ease with the entire process.

Prioritize the Positive

It is easy enough to feel that sense of overwhelm because of a number of unknown factors, but one of the most emotional aspects of this situation is that we feel our children are growing up way too fast. Because we can feel like life is going way too quickly, this is why it’s the perfect opportunity to focus on the positive parts of this phase of our child’s life as well as ours. Think about what school will do for them.

If you’ve been a stay-at-home parent and you haven’t taken them to daycare or put them in any form of childcare, and now they are going straight to school, this will naturally be a shock to the system for both of you. This is where they will do their real learning in life, and we have to learn to make peace with this, because if not, we can end up being more controlling over certain aspects of their lives than we realize, and becoming a helicopter parent is never too far behind!

Prepare a Morning Routine

In the weeks leading up to your child’s first day, it’s essential to build a morning routine that prepares your child for the day ahead but also gives you enough time to get ready. A very common part of getting our children ready for anything is that military operation that invariably makes us feel more stressed than is necessary.

So instead, get yourself into the swing of things, and if you are in a country where your child has to wear a school uniform for their first day, get them used to wearing this uniform, because if you save it until the very last second before school starts, you will have a major mountain to climb.

Keep Yourself Busy on the First Day

The moment we drop them off at the school gates is hands down one of the most difficult we will ever experience as a parent. Many parents talk about being in floods of tears or in fact being more emotional than the child themselves, and this can somehow make us feel worse. The best thing you can do is to keep your mind occupied and distract yourself from any anxious thoughts.

We have to remember this is an essential part of life, and as parents, we can go through stages of anxiety because our children are growing up, and we have to sever aspects of our bond with them as a developing little person. This is doubly true when your children progress to high school, so it is essential to start readying your mindset.

Who Created S’mores

The exact origin of S’mores is not attributed to a specific individual, as it is a dessert that has evolved over time and become a beloved treat enjoyed by many. However, the concept of combining toasted marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers can be traced back to the early 20th century in the United States.

The first known written recipe for a similar dessert appeared in a 1927 publication called “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.” The recipe, titled “Some More,” described the process of toasting marshmallows over a campfire and sandwiching them with a piece of chocolate between two graham crackers. This early recipe closely resembles what we know today as S’mores.

S’mores Dessert Bars

S’mores Dessert Bars take the beloved combination of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers and transform them into a delightful dessert that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere.

The base of S’mores bars typically consists of a buttery graham cracker crust. Crushed graham crackers are mixed with melted butter and sometimes a touch of sugar to create a flavourful and crumbly base that mimics the texture of traditional S’mores.

On top of the graham cracker crust, layers of marshmallows and chocolate are added to replicate the gooey and melty components of S’mores. Mini marshmallows are commonly used, but you can also use regular marshmallows that are cut into smaller pieces. The chocolate layer can be made with chocolate chips, chocolate bars, or even a combination of both. The chocolate melts and melds with the marshmallows, creating a heavenly and indulgent layer.

S’mores Bars can be baked in the oven until the marshmallows are toasty and the chocolate is melted. The result is a delightful combination of textures, with the crunchy graham cracker crust providing a satisfying base for the gooey marshmallows and melted chocolate.

Unravelling the Importance of Dried Fruits for Growing Children

5

Did you know that dried fruits have many benefits for children? They are rich in healthy fats, fibre, vitamins, and antioxidant minerals and provide essential energy intake. They are an ideal snack for their health and school performance. Surprisingly, you will find that they hardly consume it. It may be time to increase their presence in their diet.

dried fruits: dried apricots

First, keep in mind that until the age of 3, the child feeds on mashed or blended foods to avoid choking. These foods are best enjoyed raw or cooked, with no added salt or sugar, and not fried.

Benefits of Dried Fruits in Children

Now let’s see the benefits of consuming a handful of dried fruits and nuts (15-20 grams) daily on children’s metabolic, cardiovascular and brain health.

Reduction of Cardiovascular Risks

Did you know that diseases related to the heart are the ones that cause the most deaths? However, their prevention goes through food. This is where nuts and dried fruits are essential because of their richness in mono and polyunsaturated acids.

Thanks to phenolic compounds, which function as antioxidants and omega-three fatty acids, these two fats reduce LDL cholesterol levels, triglycerides, and the oxidation of lipids and produce HDL cholesterol. In children who were overweight or obese, an improvement was observed after replacing unhealthy snacks with dried fruits. They help reduce the carotid artery’s thickness, are a reliable indicator of early vascular damage, and lower blood pressure.

Diabetes, Obesity and Nut Consumption in Children

Dried fruits help reduce insulin resistance and blood sugar values. In other words, they minimize the risk of developing diabetes. You keep a balanced general diet, low in added sugars and trans fats. Another benefit of dried fruits, although very energetic, is that they do not cause weight gain or abdominal buoyancy. Indeed, they contain 160 to 180 kilocalories per 100 grams but are only partially absorbed due to the expense of metabolizing them.

In addition, these fruits are very satiating thanks to their high fibre content. The children are thus stalled for several hours—finally, nothing better than a handful of oilseeds to reduce constipation and the risk of colorectal cancer.

Improved School Performance and Immune System

Dried fruit consumption is linked to improved brain function, as the brain comprises 60% fat. It is, therefore, essential to include foods high in fat, such as dry fruits and nuts, in your daily routine to reduce cognitive decline in adulthood. Also, they are great for increasing memory, learning, and speed of cognitive tasks.

Regarding the immune system, dried fruits are rich in vitamin E, selenium, and magnesium. Therefore, they help fight against infections caused by viruses, bacteria, and external aggressions such as the cold.

You should also know that bacteria in the intestine ferment fibres and polyphenols. Therefore, they act as prebiotics that increase the diversity of the microbiota and maintain the integrity of the digestive mucosa. In addition, they are anti-inflammatory, which would explain their protection against obesity and other metabolic pathologies.

Dried Fruits for The Snack of The Little Ones

Unravelling the Importance of Dried Fruits for Growing Children

Many children enjoy sweet organic dried fruit as a snack. Pairing a small handful of raisins with a dairy product and cereal can create a balanced snack for after school or a quick option for when on the go. To save time:

  1. Prepare healthy snacks with dried fruit in advance. Your children will appreciate it, and you may even enjoy a snack.
  2. For those who prefer traditional snacks, consider making almond and chocolate muffins, cranberry and pecan nut cookies, or an apple, walnut, and hazelnut turnover. If you’re limited on time, cocoa toast with mashed banana and cashew nuts can be prepared quickly without cooking.
  3. Try making a simple pecan nut brownie for a comforting treat after a tough day.

Dried Fruit Creams or Butter For The Children: When Should They Be Included In Their Diet?

Feeding children, especially children under 5, is one of the main concerns of parents. And even though dried fruits are mainly present in our daily lives as snacks and ingredients in the preparation of savoury or sweet dishes, many parents have doubts about when they can make their children consume them.

Dried fruit creams are an excellent option for including these foods safely in the diet of the little ones. Although they are recognized as allergens, according to the study “Don’t delay, Feed today! from McMaster University in Canada, children who eat dried fruits before the age of 1 are less likely to develop allergies than those who only discover them later. It has been shown that the later the first dried fruits are consumed, the greater the risk of the onset of allergies.

Many brands on the internet offer different types of creams produced only from dried fruits, without added sugars or additives such as Almond butter, Hazelnut butter, Cashew butter, Crunchy peanut butter, Smooth Peanut Butter.

These creams are perfectly adapted to the diet of little ones from 6 months old, mixed, for example, with their little pots or yogurts. They will thus be able to safely benefit from all their benefits: proteins, healthy fats, minerals, and vitamins.

Dried fruits are very healthy foods to include in breakfasts and snacks as a supplement. Dry fruit is also an important component in some Mexican breakfast dishes.  As you have seen, they are a great help for their concentration and their memory. They also serve to reduce the occurrence of the most common diseases today. Furthermore, they help prevent the progressive neuronal deterioration that occurs with age.

Although the best way to consume them is whole, we find spreads without added sugar in the supermarket today. They are superb on bread with a few slices of banana, apple, pear, and cinnamon. And even as a filling in yogurts can make your day! Would you like to try it?

Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch Review

371

My two older children are at an age where they are becoming more independent, yet they are not quite ready to be going everywhere on their own. I want them to grow more confident in being able to move around our community without me. Lil Tracker understands this situation and has created devices like the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch to provide parents and kids with a sense of safety when they are apart. They asked our family if we were like to review one of their 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watches to help my kids feel safe and confident when we are not together.

Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch Review

Having the safety of your child in mind, Lil Tracker offers fun and durable devices for kids so parents can keep in touch with their kids when they are apart. Their colourful 4G GPS Tracker Watch is designed for kids to have fun while wearing it. Once it is synced to your smartphone, you can locate your child on their “in-app” map and connect with them either via text or a phone call.

We received a pink Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch and the use of a SIM card for a year to conduct this review. The SIM card is necessary for the communication and tracking features to function. We could not wait to set it up and try it out!

Setting up my Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Watch was simple. I found the instructional video for setting up the watch and the app on my smartphone easy to follow. Learning the functions of this tracker were fun for both my daughter and I to find out about.

Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch Review

Staying Connected in Three Different Ways

Keeping in touch with my daughter was great when she uses the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch. I like that there are so many ways to communicate with her when we are apart.

The Call feature was simple to use. Since I programmed my phone number into the Contacts tab on the app, it is easy for my daughter to call out to me. This feature is a great way to quickly connect with each other.

Texting is my daughter’s jam! If she could, she would text all the time if we were not in the same room. The Chat feature is her go-to method of communicating with me. Her favourite part of this feature is leaving voice chats. She talks and her voice is recorded and sent as a voice message. I think this option is a fabulous idea for kids to use as they are spending less time typing and can communicate with people in a snap!

Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch in pink

My daughter is a HUGE fan of connecting via video for longer conversations. The Video Call feature is a simple way to stay in touch while seeing each other. She loves chatting and seeing her friends and family in real time. I feel that this feature is great to use because you can see your child when the two of you are apart. It is also helpful when you want to start to give your child some independence by having them begin to learn how to be around their neighbourhood on their own.

Extra Ways to Stay Connected with the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch

The Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch provides many other features for parents to stay connected to their kids while they are apart. One of the best ways to keep an eye on your child when they are not with you is with the tracking features available with this watch.

Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch connecting via video

When my daughter was late coming home from school, I was able to go to the Tracking tool on this watch to see how far away she was from home. The GPS+LBS+WIFI positioning allows for parents to see where their child is in real time on a map. The Tracking tool also keeps an hour-long tracking history. In an emergency, parents can see where their child travelled to get a better idea of where their child was to help find them.

The SOS One Key Calling feature is also handy to have on hand. By holding this button for five seconds, kids can quickly make a voice call to their parents for help.

We both found the Camera feature a fun tool to use. We can take photos from both the watch and remotely from the app on my smartphone.

girl being in video with the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch

I also like that there is a Remote Monitoring system built into this watch. There is a high-sensitivity mic that allows parents to hear what is happening around their child during an emergency should their child not be able to use their watch for help.

Some Issues We Found with the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch

Even though we love using our Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch, there are some issues we found when using it.

  1. One thing we would change would be how often the Tracking Tool updates. Parents are given options as to how frequently they can have the Tracking Tool update to learn your child’s location. The most frequent updating option is 10 minutes. I would have liked for the ability to have this information constantly refreshing so I could locate them in an instant.
  2. Another issue we found with the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch was how this device is charged. The way the charging cable attaches to the watch is a bit awkward. The part of the charging cable that connects with the watch is at the back of the phone. You are not able to see how far along you are with charging your watch unless you turn it over. It would be great if future versions of this device could be charged in a different place on the device.

A High Recommendation for the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch

My daughter and I would highly recommend the Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watch. It is a small device that holds A LOT of helpful features for parents and kids to stay in contact with each other. The various ways of communication and monitoring are simple to use and keep me connected to my child. This watch allows for me to feel more secure about my daughter moving around our community. It also provides confidence for my kid to be outside without me physically being by her side. We are so happy to have this device to help our kids feel confident and safe as they grow!

Lil Tracker 4G GPS Tracker Pro Watches

I learned more about Lil Tracker by following their Facebook and Instagram channels.

4

Kilimanjaro hiking is an awe-inspiring journey that does exactly that, and so much more. We’ll introduce you to the majestic mountain itself, explore some popular routes, and reveal what you can expect on this unforgettable quest. So lace up those trusty hiking boots, and let’s begin our ascent!

Kilimanjaro Hiking

A Brief Introduction: Mount Kilimanjaro, the Crown Jewel of Tanzania

Rising majestically from the plains of Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro reigns supreme as the highest peak in Africa, standing tall at an impressive 19,341 feet (5,895 meters) above sea level. As the focal point of the Kilimanjaro National Park, this breathtaking mountain draws thousands of hikers every year, lured by its snow-capped summit, diverse ecosystem, and the challenge of conquering one of the world’s Seven Summits. Kilimanjaro hiking presents you with a unique opportunity to experience unrivaled natural beauty while testing your physical and mental prowess.

Charting Your Course: Choosing the Perfect Kilimanjaro Hiking Route for Your Adventure

When it comes to Kilimanjaro hiking, there is no “one size fits all” approach. With several established routes available, it’s essential to find one that best suits your unique needs, preferences, and experience level. And fear not, for we have you covered with an overview of some of the most popular routes that have captivated the hearts of adventurers from around the globe:

1. Marangu Route: Known affectionately as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the oldest and most traversed route for Kilimanjaro hiking. Its well-trodden path, gentle ascent, and comfortable hut accommodations make it popular among first-time climbers and those seeking a less strenuous experience. However, the shorter duration of this route may limit acclimatization opportunities, potentially reducing your chances of summit success.

2. Machame Route: Fondly referred to as the “Whiskey Route,” Machame is a more challenging and scenically captivating alternative to the Marangu Route. Its acclimatization-friendly course and awe-inspiring landscapes make it a favorite among experienced hikers and those seeking the perfect balance of visual splendor and adrenaline-fueled challenge during their Kilimanjaro hiking adventure.

3. Lemosho Route: This lesser-traveled, yet highly scenic route starts in the lush rainforests on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. The Lemosho Route offers superior acclimatization opportunities, jaw-dropping panoramas, and a slower-paced, more intimate encounter with the natural world on your journey to the summit.

4. Rongai Route: The Rongai Route begins on Kilimanjaro’s northern side and approaches the summit from the east. This lesser-known trail is perfect for those seeking solitude and an “off-the-beaten-path” compass for their Kilimanjaro hiking experience. This route is notably less crowded, boasts a more gradual incline, offers excellent acclimatization opportunities, and provides a front-row seat to the mountain’s rich wildlife.

5. Umbwe Route: For hikers who thrive on steep climbs and demanding challenges, the Umbwe Route offers a thrilling and arduous path to the summit. This lesser-explored trail is perfect for experienced, highly fit individuals with a penchant for adrenaline-pumping adventures. However, keep in mind that it’s steep inclines and rapid ascent make proper acclimatization a crucial issue to address.”

Gearing Up for Success: What to Pack for Your Kilimanjaro Adventure

An important consideration before embarking on your Kilimanjaro hiking journey is ensuring that you pack the right gear to keep you comfortable, safe, and prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. Here’s a checklist of essential items to equip you for success in your ascent:

1. Clothing Essentials: Pack versatile layers that can easily be added or removed as you navigate the mountain’s diverse climate zones. Items should include moisture-wicking base layers, a fleece jacket or down-insulated mid-layers, a waterproof and breathable outer-shell jacket, hiking pants, thermal underwear, and a warm hat and gloves.

2. Footwear: Select a pair of well-fitting, broken-in, high-quality hiking boots that provide ample ankle support and a non-slip grip. Additionally, pack several pairs of moisture-wicking hiking socks to keep your feet dry and blister-free.

3. Backpack: Choose a comfortable, spacious, yet lightweight backpack to hold all of your essentials. Look for ergonomically designed backpacks with padded shoulder straps, hip belts, and back panels to minimize strain and discomfort during your hike.

4. Trekking Poles: Opt for adjustable trekking poles to provide stability, reduce stress on your joints, and increase your endurance.

5. Hydration: Bring a hydration bladder or durable water bottles to ensure you stay adequately hydrated throughout your hike, with a daily target of at least 3-4 liters of water consumption.

6. Health and Safety: Prepare a basic first aid kit and bring important medications, sunscreen, insect repellent, and altitude sickness remedies such as Diamox or Acetazolamide.

2. Strength Training: Develop a well-rounded strength training regimen that targets your core, legs, and upper body. Supplement your cardiovascular workouts with exercises such as lunges, squats, step-ups, leg presses, and deadlifts to target key muscle groups that are employed while hiking.

3. Altitude Preparation: If possible, spend time hiking or training at high altitudes to help your body acclimate. Gradually increase the elevation of your hikes to simulate the conditions you’ll encounter during your Kilimanjaro hike.

4. Mental Conditioning: Cultivate a positive mindset and mental fortitude by envisioning your successful ascent, setting achievable training goals, and challenging yourself to build resilience.

Pro Tips: Making the Most of Your Kilimanjaro Adventure

Common Potty Training Problems

3

Potty training can take a toll on your little one, who has been relieving himself in his diaper since birth and is now being expected to use a strange new device. If you have problems with potty training your child, these tips will come in handy.

Common Potty Training Problems

Regression

Potty training issues can be cause be Stress. Stress can cause your child to have trouble with potty training. Stressful factors take many forms including moving from a crib to a toddler bed, the death of a loved one, the birth of a sibling and moving to a new house. Your child can even regress back to using diapers when he’s sick. It’s a good idea to put the potty training on hold until the stress has passed or when it has lessened considerably.

Fear

Some kids are afraid of the loud noise as the toilet flushes and an object quickly disappears as it is sucked away. The child may fear being sucked into the toilet when it is flushed. Even some potty chairs can be intimidating since some have loud music or sounds and bright, flashing lights. Purchase a seat or chair that is comfortable and stable as well as one that is appealing to your child. Your son will feel like the potty chair is his own property if he is allowed to pick out the chair. He can also personalize it with your help by applying stickers and his name.

A splashguard is a handy feature to help boys control messes, but some splashguards may make your son feel crowded on the seat or can bump or scrape his penis and if he associates the seat with pain it will make him fear the toilet more. Encourage him to sit on the toilet with his clothes on so he can get comfortable with this new device.

Let your child flush bits of torn toilet tissue or coloured paper so he gets used to the sound and is able to see objects being flushed. Although not necessary, it may be helpful if he sees you or a same-sex person use the toilet. Show him how the urine or feces is flushed away and let him know that is what is supposed to happen.

Bowel Movement Refusal

Some children will urinate in the potty chair or toilet, but refuse to have a bowel movement in either one. There are different reasons for this potty training problem including the fear of making a mess, constipation, fear of the bowel movement causing pain or he may feel that the stool is a part of him that shouldn’t be put in the toilet. To avoid constipation, make sure your little one is drinking enough fluids daily to stay hydrated as well as eating enough fiber-rich foods like whole-grain breads, fruits, vegetables and cereal. If your little one flat-out refuses to go in the toilet, instruct him to ask for a diaper when he is about to have a bowel movement.

Accidents

Accidents can happen in the day or at night. Daytime potty training is usually achieved before nighttime or naptime potty training, which can, according to the Nemours Foundation, take additional months or years to master. Stress can cause your little one to have an accident.

If he does have an accident, it is important to avoid making him feel bad by punishing or scolding him. According to the Mayo Clinic when it comes to potty training, the parent should stay calm and say “Uh-oh. There was an accident. Let’s change you. Pretty soon you’ll remember to use the potty chair every time you have to go.”

While some kids are potty trained without a hitch, others run into a few snags here and there. Some problems require a short pause in potty training, while others are resolved with some intervention on the part of the parent.

Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse Review

5

Encouraging kids to want to get outside to play is becoming a difficult task with the convenience of screens at their fingertips. Backyard Discovery wants to help give kids another option to choose for playtime with their collection of play structures. Backyard Discovery asked my family to review and see if their Sweetwater Playhouse would help bring fun and imagination to outdoor play at our home. We could not wait to see how much fun our little guy would have playing in his new “home.”

Backyard Discovery logo

Who is Backyard Discovery?

Backyard Discovery provides a variety of ready-to-assemble outdoor play and patio structures for people to enjoy. Their “Play” section offers swing sets, playhouses, and elevated play sets and slides to make playing outside a more imaginative experience.

What is the Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse?

Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse

The Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse is made for kids young (and some older at heart, too) to explore and imagine while being outdoors. It is constructed out of cedar wood that is panelized to make putting it together easy. The front of this structure features a half-door and flowerpot holders you can put an array of objects in to make this house feel more like a home. The snack window allows for kids to imaginatively whip up and serve snacks to friends during playtime. Other fun features are the play sink, stove, and cordless phone to expand your child’s playtime fun. It is recommended for children ages 2-10 years-old.

Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse Review

Even before we had the Sweetwater Playhouse assembled, our little guy wanted to begin his adventures in his new play home.

Simple Assembly and Set-up of the Sweetwater Playhouse

My husband kindly took on the task of assembling the Sweetwater Playhouse.

assembling the Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse

We liked that were virtual instructions (through the Built app) and a booklet option of the instruction manual to view to accomplish this task. My guy chose to use the physical manual to tackle this build. The instructions for putting this playhouse together were simple and straightforward. Each step laid out which pieces and tools needed be used.

instructions manual

From start to finish, my husband took under three hours to build this playhouse. The instructions recommend that two people should help to construct this structure. For the most part, my husband was able to handle this job on his own.

Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse review

Once his new playhouse was completed, my son loved the sound of the doorbell, and thought it was funny every time it was rung. He even enjoys locking and unlocking the front door.

Backyard Discovery Playhouse door bell

The kitchen is my little guy’s favourite place to play when he is in this playhouse. To add to the imaginative play of this structure, a set of pots, a spatula, and a cooking spoon come along with the kitchen. While at this part of the playhouse, my son loves twisting the switches on the stove, and “washing” (really, it was smashing) the pots in the kitchen’s sink.

Backyard Discovery Playhouse

The playhouse’s portable phone is another favourite thing to play with! My little guy has fun taking the phone out of its cradle then pretending to have a conversation while at home.

The added touches around this playhouse are the features I really loved. Backyard Discovery were thoughtful enough to add windowless panes to some of the windows and to have spots for flowerpots. These little things really make the Sweetwater Playhouse more of a home.

If there is one issue we had with the Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse, it would be that we wished there were more play areas within the structure. It would have added to the feel of the playhouse to see a living room area as a part of the walls in the front part of the house so more fun could be had when the door is closed.

A High Recommendation for the Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse

Overall, our family is happy to have our Backyard Discovery Sweetwater Playhouse as a part of our backyard. It was simple for my husband to assemble, and once it was completed, my son loves playing and “living in his mini home away from home. This play structure will now give him a new reason to want to go outside to play for a longer period of time this summer.

I learned more about Backyard Discovery and the many other structures they have to offer by following their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedInInstagram, and YouTube channels.

How to Potty Train a Girl

2

You’ll know when your daughter is ready to start potty training. This stage differs for each child, so there is no magic age at which a toddler should be made to become toilet trained. Some toddler girls may evidence readiness at the age two years or so, while another may be three years old or older before she is able to completely able to master this chore. You will find below tips and ideas that will help you on how to potty train a girl.

how to potty train a girl

How to Potty Train a Girl

A child might pull at her diaper or say it’s uncomfortable, mimic a parent’s behaviour in attempting to sit on the bathroom toilet, or start repeating key words that she’s been taught, such as “pee-pee” or “poo-poo.”

When you sense it’s time to begin, keep potty training suggestions and ideas like these in mind:

1. Get a potty chair and set it in the bathroom

You may as well get her used to going to the right location for toileting as opposed to keeping the potty chair in her play area or bedroom. Make sure the chair is kept clean and odour-free. If possible, let your daughter choose one with a favourite colour or design. The better she likes her new apparatus, the more likely she is to use it. You may want to set the chair facing the adult toilet so a parent can go through the actions with her or at least have a place to sit while waiting for the little girl to finish.

2. Be patient

Kids may start to show interest in potty training, then back off for awhile. This is especially true if you have a younger child in the family, which may tempt your daughter to “regress” to semi-infantile behaviour for a closer share of Mom and Dad’s attention. Toddlers don’t always hit the potty bowl when using the bathroom; sometimes they miss. Or they may act like they need to go potty and then change their minds after sitting a few moments. Never scold or punish a child for soiling a diaper or using the potty too frequently. Parents need to be patient in order to survive potty training. It takes time for both parent and child to get used to the new practice.

3. Set up a potty training schedule

Take your little girl to her potty chair after meals, before getting in the car, and when going to bed or getting up in the morning. She will soon learn to wait for those times when she has to go. Of course she may need to go more or less frequently, so help her develop a potty training schedule that both of you are comfortable with. Don’t try forcing her to hold it longer than she is able. Nor should you try to make her go when she doesn’t have to. Never use the potty as a punishment for time-out.

4. Adopt a flexible potty training schedule

During potty training, which can last several weeks or months, it is important to provide time for impromptu bathroom breaks for your child. She is still learning how to hold her urine or bowel movements, and sometimes she may feel a sudden rush to use the potty. Or she may feel proud of her new skill and be eager to practice all the more to “get it right” or earn your praise.

5. Keep it matter of fact

While potty training is a big deal and should be applauded each time your daughter is successful, don’t treat success or failure as out of the ordinary events. Help your child experience this transitional stage as part of her daily schedule and as a learning phase.

6. Spare Diapers

Take extra clothing and a spare diaper or two on outings during this stage. Even when your child has mastered the basics of potty training, there will be times when she has an accident, often when she is excited or busy at play. Help her to the bathroom for another try at the toilet and then assist with changing her clothes along with an encouraging word or two.

Simple Tips for Potty Training a Girl

Potty training for girls involves some unique considerations for parents. Girls are better equipped to say goodbye to their diapers when parents follow these simple rules for potty training girls.

1. What Girls Should Wear When Potty Training

Girls should not wear dresses or skirts when toilet training. Parents might be tempted to believe that not having to pull down pants might make training easier, but in reality they are very difficult to gather up and hold in the front and in the back.

Skirts are very likely to droop in the potty and get wet, causing a lot of frustration and confusion for a toddler who went to the potty correctly but still got her clothes wet. Tights and leggings should also be avoided when toilet training a girl since they are difficult to pull down.

2. Teach Correct Posture When Potty Training

When people think of children spraying urine during potty training, they undoubtedly think of boys. However, girls often have this problem, too. It is usually because she is sitting on the potty with her pelvis tilted forward. Teach girls to sit up straight with their bottoms tucked underneath them and their knees together.

If this doesn’t seem to correct the problem, or if parents suspect that there are other issues at play, they should have their daughter examined by her pediatrician.

3. Help Toddlers Girls Detect Urination

Sometimes little girls will sit on the potty for a while, then get up thinking that they have urinated when they actually haven’t. Girls are at the disadvantage of not being able to “see” it like boys can. This is especially true if they are using the toilet instead of a potty training chair, when there is already liquid in the bowl.

Parents can help girls to “see” when they have urinated by using a potty chair and placing a sheet of toilet paper at the bottom of the bowl. If it is wet, it will be easier for girls to tell that they have gone.

4. Girl Potty Training and UTI Risks

Toddler girls are especially susceptible to urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are often caused by improper wiping after a bowl movement. During potty training, one of the first lessons parents teach should be how to wipe from front to back.

5. Potty Training for Girls With Brothers

When they start using the adult toilet instead of a training potty, little girls should also be taught to routinely check that the seat is in the “down” position before using the bathroom. This is especially important if there are older brothers at home, who might forget to put the seat down every time. Nothing can be more traumatic to a newly-trained toddler than inexplicably falling in when she thought she was doing it right.

Girls and toilet training are a difficult mix. Children can catch on quickly, but it helps if parents have the right strategies for teaching essential skills. Each gender has their own set of potty training needs, so parents should give special attention to these matters before starting to potty train their daughter.

Potty training is not for the faint-hearted! But it is a terrific way to bond with your daughter while helping her achieve mastery over this basic body function.

Understanding Domestic Violence Assault

3

Domestic Violence affects men and women of any age, gender, ethnic or cultural background, income level or religion.

Abuse comes in many forms – it may involve physical violence, but also includes emotional or financial abuse as well as pattern of intimidating behaviours like stalking. Here we explore these various forms of abuse.

Understanding Domestic Violence Assault

What is Domestic Violence?

Unfortunately, many victims of physical assaults do not seek help for fear that their abuser will retaliate, or do not believe the violence exists in the first place. Reporting might further harm relationships and worry them further as authorities may not believe their accounts.

Domestic violence must be understood so that you can take steps to keep yourself and your family safe. Abuse can happen to anyone of any age, economic status and ethnic background – from gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals all the way down to children who witness domestic abuse and believe it’s normal behavior. Recognizing the signs of bipolar rage and verbal abuse is crucial in breaking the cycle of violence and seeking help.

Domestic violence is treated more seriously under the law than other types of assault, and often classified as a “special” crime in separate courts with separate penalties than regular assault cases. Some of the most serious offenses may be heard on domestic violence dockets such as first degree assault (a felony offense) and threats of killing; misdemeanor offenses include reckless endangerment and simple assault charges.

Domestic abuse comes in five forms, which a perpetrator can employ to gain power and control over survivors. Physical assault is the most evident type of domestic abuse; but emotional, sexual and financial forms also play a part. A perpetrator might sabotage efforts of victims to work or spend money; this form of coercive control; restrict access to family and friends via isolation; or make threats of harm against the survivor, their children or other family members.

Physical Abuse

Physical abuse refers to any action which causes or could potentially cause physical harm, including but not limited to hitting, slapping, kicking, throwing objects at someone or pinching, scratching and choking. Physical abuse can also include the misuse of drugs or restraints.

Physical violence may seem minor at first glance; after all, it could just be the result of frustration or anger. Unfortunately this is not true – physical abuse should never be accepted as part of any relationship and is never acceptable behaviour. Physical assault occurs regardless of age, gender or relationship status and affects all types of individuals including children, elders and pets – although unfortunately women are particularly prone to physical assault in intimate relationships.

Physical abuse is often the first indicator of an abusive relationship. It may start as minor pushes or slaps, but soon escalates to more serious behaviours that create fear, such as bruises and marks on skin – any act which threatens or makes victims feel unsafe can be considered abuse.

After an incident occurs, it’s not unusual for abusers to deny any wrongdoing. They might blame alcohol or drugs, make excuses about feeling stressed or frustrated, and/or try convincing their partner they truly apologize – all tactics which make it more difficult for victims to escape abusive relationships.

Some survivors may be fearful to reach out for assistance due to fear that their abuser will find out and get in trouble for calling for assistance, but doing so may be the safest solution. When making their call, survivors should assess whether their abuser has access to any devices such as their phone or laptop and consider whether there may be spyware installed on those devices by considering whether their abuser could access these items via remote access or otherwise.

Emotional Abuse

People tend to associate domestic violence with physical contact between family members that leads to visible injuries. However, domestic violence encompasses much more than this and includes all manner of emotional and psychological harm to its victims; though difficult to detect as easily, its long-term damage could still be devastating.

Emotional abuse occurs when someone manipulates another to reduce their self-esteem or sense of control, typically within romantic or familial relationships, but also among friends or family members. Recognizing emotional abuse may be difficult due to its subtlety; proof may not always be easy to provide.

One of the hallmarks of emotional abuse is when an abusive person restricts a victim from making decisions for themselves, including where and what to go out, wear, or spend their money. They might lecture them about “their shortcomings”, make public outbursts against them or simply lie about them.

Emotional abuse occurs when one party attempts to isolate the victim from family and friends, convincing them they do not have support systems in place. Financially abusive relationships typically include not allowing someone to work, refusing to share income and threatening consequences if they do not obey. Other tactics employed may involve mind games where an abusive person accuses the victim of cheating or flirting with other individuals before going through their phone, reading their diary or cutting off social connections altogether.

emotional abuse

Financial Abuse

Financial abuse may not be well understood, yet it can be just as crippling to survivors of domestic violence. According to studies, 9 out of every 10 domestic violence cases include some form of financial abuse. Abusers use control over money as leverage against victims of physical or emotional abuse in abusive relationships – this makes leaving impossible when survivors fear they won’t have enough income after leaving an abusive partner’s income behind.

Abusers may bar their partners from accessing accounts, force them to write bad checks or file fraudulent tax returns, run up debt on joint accounts and even steal identity or inheritance of their victim. Abusers can even interfere with job opportunities by stalking at work or interfering with attendance at interviews and training events.

Before leaving their partner, survivors should try to gather as many documents as possible – this includes copies of all credit reports, bank statements, PIN codes and passwords as well as any other access details they can find. They could even consider freezing their credit to make it harder for an abuser to apply for loans or open new credit accounts using their name.

Survivors should research what resources are available in their area for themselves and their children, which can help determine what forms of compensation may be available. For instance, if you share a lease agreement with an abuser you may want to look into reading “Breaking a Lease Without Breaking the Bank.” Additionally, there are resources that can help identify possible compensation awards that you might be eligible for.

Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is an epidemic within domestic violence and often goes unreported. Sexual abuse occurs when one’s intimate partner uses physical force or threats against their victim during sexual situations, including forced sexual activity, penetrating against will, taking pornographic photos of children without consent, forcing sex on them against their will or simply touching inappropriately. Over 21 percent of women and 2.6 percent of men will experience rape at some point during their lifetimes – some victims experiencing it more than once.

Sexual assault and coercion is another form of domestic violence and its consequences can be serious. Most perpetrators are intimate partners; thus known as spousal or marital rape; yet many remain silent due to fear over how their partner might react, fear of labeling as sexual predator, or losing family ties.

In criminal domestic violence cases, the decision to prosecute is made by the prosecutor. Accusers have no control over this decision and should not attempt to make this type of decision. Doing so could put them at risk of prosecution themselves.

Understand that each victim/survivor will react and heal in their own unique manner, so being an excellent listener and allowing them to share when ready are key parts of responding effectively. If unsure how best to react, contact an advocate at a domestic violence hotline who can guide you in understanding your options.
