What is an Iced Matcha?

An iced matcha tea latte recipe may seem complicated, but a hand full of ingredients are needed to create this chilly treat. Matcha is a finely powdered green tea from the leaves of the matcha plant. An iced matcha is simply sweetened matcha blended with milk.

Benefits of Matcha Tea

Did you know there are many benefits to savouring a glass of an iced matcha tea latte? Nutrients are held in all parts of the Matcha leaf.

Here are some of the health benefits matcha provides:

  • Matcha contains a high amount of catechins, a type of natural antioxidants, which help to protect cells from becoming damaged from harmful atoms that invade our bodies that can cause chronic diseases.
  • Brains could get a boost from ingesting matcha! This fine powder can improve memory and reaction time. Matcha also contains L-theanine, a compound which alters the effects of caffeine that helps to prevent quick drops in energy levels people feel after consuming caffeine.
  • Matcha contains many health-promoting compounds that have been linked to preventing numerous types of cancer.

Highest quality matcha powder

Not all matcha are made equal! You should purchase a high quality matcha that has a smooth, silky, and fine feel when you rub it between your fingers. It’s almost like the powder of an eyeshadow. If you really want to put a matcha to the test, put a small quantity onto a piece of paper and then smear it. High quality matcha will leave a clean and long line with hardly any or no breaks.

The highest quality matcha powder will have a bright green colour in comparison to a low quality matcha that will be a light green or yellowish colour.

Sipology

Last year, I discovered matcha when I became a Sipologist with Sipology by Steeped tea. I never really enjoyed the taste of matcha until I tried the ones from Sipology. I realized that the matcha I tasted before was not high quality matcha compared to the ones from Sipology. They’re also part of the Ethical Tea Partnership, maintain organic compliant facilities and only use real, whole ingredients tested for the highest standards (NO artificial flavours or colours, NO harmful preservatives or MSG, NO irradiated ingredients, NO added sugar unless stated).

We offer premium matcha, sweet matcha sticks as well as fizzy matcha sours and have over 25 different matcha flavours. Sipology Premium Matcha was used to make this Iced Matcha Tea Latte, but you can also add any flavoured matcha or sweet matcha to make this recipe. Simply omit the sugar if you will use sweet matcha.
