10 Family-Friendly Activities To Do On A Trip To Whistler

Some people think of visiting Whistler, British Columbia, only during the winter season, but this is a misconception. Whistler offers just as much fun for families in other seasons as it does in the winter. It’s a famous destination offering amenities for everyone all year round.

There are many family-friendly lodging options, a variety of diverse cuisine restaurants, and an exciting assortment of attractions and activities available to enjoy in this place. Whistler also offers plenty of fun activities for kids to keep them entertained.

Whistler Escapades

There’s nothing better than making memories with your family. Whistler is a family-friendly paradise, offering almost any exciting activity you can imagine. To make the most out of your trip to Whistler, it’s crucial to choose the best transportation service that’ll allow you to explore numerous destinations in Whistler. Ideally, taking a Vancouver to Whistler bus is an excellent option to reach amazing places that are otherwise inaccessible by foot, car, or train.

If you make the trip up for your relaxation, here are some of the best things to do for your holiday adventure at Whistler:

1. Zipline Between Rainforests

Start planning your itinerary and begin with this exhilarating encounter. Experience the thrill of racing through the rainforest hundreds of feet above Fitzsimmons Creek with the zipline activities offered by ZipTrek Ecotours. They have more than ten ziplines running among old-growth forests between Whistler and Blackcomb, connected by treetop bridges. There’s a minimum age requirement of 6 years old and a maximum weight limit of 65 pounds for kids.

You can experience the excitement of flying through the jungle canopy and over a canyon. Children can choose from various tour options, though Sasquatch (Canada’s longest zip line) requires children to be ten or older. Those with young children can enjoy the Tree Trek canopy walk, which is suitable for all ages.

2. Bike Around Whistler Mountain

Whistler Bike Park offers a challenging mountain bike ride. However, this activity is still perfect for the entire family as bikers of every skill level can find something to their liking in this area. This activity can be enjoyed at your own pace. The sight of local families and children as young as five dressed in bike armour and zooming down the hill is a refreshing view enough to encourage you to try it for yourself.

3. Sleigh Riding

Whistler sleigh rides are a relaxing way to take in the scenery. Warm-up with a cup of hot chocolate halfway through while riding a horse-drawn sleigh. This activity is available from December until March, depending on snow conditions.

This adventure is one for the books! It’s an excellent choice for many families going to Whistler during winter, so it’s better to reserve tickets in advance.

4. Lake Day Trip

Families love Lakeside Park because it encompasses areas perfect for lounging, picnic, and even swimming. A large grass lawn, picnic tables, playground, and concession stands are available at this park. There are also two swimming docks.

Alta Vista’s Lakeside Park Gondola Peak 2 Peak is about 2 kilometres from the village of Hillcrest Drive, accessible by car or by bike via the Valley Trail.

5. Enjoy Hiking At Cheakamus Lake Trail

It takes about four to six hours to hike to the mountain-lined lake, but the views are worth it. Due to its flatness, you don’t have to be physically fit to finish it. It’s less than 3 kilometres from the trailhead to the lake, so you can hike as long as you like, which is excellent for children who aren’t up for the entire adventure. It’s even great for your elderly loved ones too. Prepare for a postcard-perfect Whistler panorama when you reach the elevated areas.

6. Have A Black Bear Tour

In Whistler Village, visitors see many signs indicating bears are roaming in the area. A black bear population of about 70 lives in the resort area. The Whistler Gondola offers a good view of them since they’re active in the mountains. If you want to get an up-close look, book a guided tour where you can stay safely in a 4×4 vehicle.

As you prepare your road trip packing checklist, ensure to bring your camera and binoculars!

7. Ride A Gondola From Peak To Peak

You can ride the Gondola Peak 2 Peak with the whole family. The Whistler Blackcomb Gondola lift hangs 436 metres above the ground between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. In addition to transporting skiers up the hill, the ride also gives you a better view from above. Whistler’s Winter Wonderland can be seen from up above in your seat.

8. Practice Your Axe-Throwing Skills

The Forged Axe Throwing activity at Function Junction lets you get in touch with your lumberjack side. For axe throwing lessons, adults and children ten years old and older can use small hatchets or full-sized axes.

This is a great activity to enjoy with your family or a group for an hour or so. After a fun practice of targeting the bullseye, you can all pause for a break at the Whistler Brewing Company nearby. This place is also children-friendly, so it’s great for the entire family.

9. Try Dog Sledding

Dog sledding is another winter must-do in Whistler. Take advantage of this unique fun activity with your loved ones. Experience the cold air as dogs run through the fresh snow while you ride on a sled. You can even teach your kids all about the animals and have them practice the commands mushers use to lead the dogs through the snowy surfaces.

10. Explore Whistler Through Your Palate

What can bring a family together more than food? You can’t skip your visit to Whistler without getting a taste of their food assortments–from fine dining to après-ski recipes, satisfying every palate and budget.

One of the most renowned dining places is situated in the heart of Whistler Village, the Araxi Restaurant and Oyster Bar, which is loved by both locals and out-of-country travelers because of their amazing cuisine and wine collection. Bringing your family into this place is the best opportunity to introduce your children to seafood.

For an awesome dining experience on a budget, the 21 Steps Kitchen and Bar, also located in Whistler Village, will satisfy your full-course cravings. For a night out with your spouse, you can enjoy homemade charcuterie, cheese, shared plates they call raciones, a wide array of cocktails, and more.
