Travel Tips When You’re Driving Far to Get to Disney World

23

Each vacation you take is full of memories to last a lifetime. From the car ride itself, to the actual destination and fun activities you have planned, you are sure to have plenty to reminisce about. A trip to Disney will certainly be a vacation to put down in the books, however a long, daunting car ride may have you thinking twice about experiencing Disney. Don’t let a long road trip put a halt on the magic of Disney. Here are some great travel tips to follow when you’re driving far to get to Disney World!

Travel Tips When You're Driving Far to Get to Disney World

Car Travel Tips to Get to Disney World

1. Pack the Right Snacks

It is a no brainer that you are going to need snacks on any road trip, however there are right and wrong foods to bring. While you may be thinking about snacks that are going to make the smallest messes, you also want to make sure that you are packing healthy, protein filled snacks, not just candy bars, energy drinks and bags of chips.

2. Pre Trip Car Maintenance

One of the most important tips, before you embark on your road trip to Disney, is to take your car in to the shop for a little maintenance. Get your oil changed, if it is due for one, have your fluids and windshield wipers checked, and topped off, and check the pressure in your tires. There is nothing worse than getting stuck on the side of the road, miles and miles from home, and miles and miles away from your destination.

3. Frozen Water Bottles

While we are on the snacking topic, let’s talk about ice. Save yourself some space in your coolers by freezing bottles or jugs of water to replace bags of ice. You will not have to deal with dumping melted ice during your trip, and as the water thaws, you will have extra drinking water handy.

4. Save Electronics as Last Resorts

The only thing kids love about long car rides is the extra time they will have playing electronics. But eventually they will tire of them and end up whining a little sooner. Instead of handing over the electronics as soon as you get in the car, wait an hour or two. The kids can keep themselves busy with other toys or books they have brought, and afterward bury themselves into the electronics, because honestly, who would want to go from playing games to drawing and colouring?

5. Have a Disney Playlist

After hours of being in the car everyone is bound to feel a little drained, and ready to be at Disney already. At this point it is a good idea to pull out your Disney playlist. Hearing your favourite Disney songs is sure to put everyone into an upbeat mood again, in eager anticipation of walking through those magical gates.

7 tips to help you plan ahead and make Canadian turkey your Back-To-School go-to protein

Are you not sure how to begin planning ahead to make your family’s meals packed with protein power? Here are seven tips that can help you get started with ease!

  1. Scale Up– Turkey is a great option when planning to double or triple your favourite recipes. Scale your recipes so you can cook once and then freeze extras portions to have on hand when you need dinner or lunch in a hurry
  2. Foolproff Favourites– Develop a series of go-to recipes that you know are easy to prepare and that your family will love. The Canadian Turkey website is packed with kitchen-tested recipes that are both healthy and tasty too. Turkey is so versatile and comes in so many cuts that you can find something for everyone’s taste and preference.
  3. Plan Ahead– Try to cook with recipes where you can do some prep work ahead of time or plan to pre-cook some or all of the ingredients. Meal planning up to a week in advance is a great way to save time during busy weeknights.
  4. Lean but Juicy– It’s hard to believe but with turkey, both white and dark meat is lean. That means you can enjoy any cut you prefer and feel good knowing you are choosing a healthy protein without compromising on flavour, tenderness or juiciness.
  5. Change It Up– Turkey adapts well to all of your favourite flavour profiles and spice combinations. No matter what your family likes to enjoy, you can easily swapturkey into most recipes. Try cooking with turkey for your favourite meal of the day. You can serve it hot or cold, and it tastes great the next day, too!
  6. So Much to Choose From– Turkey is a versatile protein, with so many different cuts of both dark and white meat to choose from, including ground meat, legs, drumsticks, thighs, breast steaks, breast rolls, breast roasts, drummettes, wings, sausages, and burgers. With such a wide selection, you can enjoy turkey at breakfast, lunch or dinner, with leftovers that taste delicious the next day.
  7. Perfect for Penny Pinchers– Turkeys are generally larger than other poultry options and deliver a lot of meat for the price. Whole turkeys can be roasted for pennies per pound, and are a perfect choice for batch cooking meals or freezing leftover meat that can come in handy as everyday meal starters. Cuts like drums, breasts and thighs are larger, so you need fewer to feed the family or plan for leftovers.

7 Effective Ways to Motivate your Kid

7 Effective Ways to Motivate your Kid

Whether it comes to personal progress or performance at school, motivation is the key that drives your little one to do better. So here’s a little help for you with just that! Here are 7 super effective ways to motivate your kid to give his best in whatever it is you’ve both aspired for!

7 Effective Ways to Motivate your Kid
A woman looking at a boy

1. Set Goals

You can never be too early to help your kid set goals for himself. Setting small goals helps your kid get a sense of direction and purpose, and will get him motivated in no time! Start with short-term goals and work your way up.

2. Bring in the Rewards

There’s nothing better than sneaking in a little reward to encourage your kid to perform best. It can be something as simple as a movie trip or a treat of his favourite ice-cream, but these little rewards work best and can help motivate your kid.

3. Appreciate & Encourage

Whatever the task is, appreciate your kid’s effort and encourage him to go for it, even if he fails. As a parent, your support is what will keep him going more than anything else. Encouragement is a kind of positive reinforcement that can help you connect with your kid on an even deeper level.

4. Bring in Some Competition

What could be better than spicing things up by introducing your kid to some healthy competition? Don’t let it go overboard though, and no matter what, never compare your kid to anyone else.

5. Embrace the Flaws

Remember that just like you, your kid has flaws too. Teach him to embrace and accept those flaws, and try to use it in a positive way that works for him and helps him achieve his goals. Setting unrealistic expectations from him and pushing him to become an all-rounder will only de-motivate him when he’s unable to hit those goals.

6. Encourage Progress

Your child is obviously not going to excel at everything he does, and during his moments of failure, all you need to do is to encourage him to continue trying and instill the values of persistence and patience. Teach him how to never give up.

7. Inspire & Plan Wisely

From watching motivational videos to reading positive books, you can do a lot to help your kid feel more driven towards his goals. Chalk out an action plan with him and stay interested and keep asking him about his progress. It will motivate him in ways you can’t imagine.

Grandma’s Old Fashioned Macaroni Salad

35

There is never a bad time to serve macaroni salad… summertime… holiday time… you name it! Macaroni salad is kind of like meatloaf, when it comes to preparation. Everyone has their own recipe. And, if you ask nicely most people are willing to share their secret ingredients to their old fashioned macaroni salad!

I don’t know about you but this particular version of macaroni salad is one I truly consider to be “old-fashioned.” There’s just basic ingredients that go really well together and remind you of childhood picnics, camping trips or holidays at grandma’s house.

Grandma's Old Fashioned Macaroni Salad

Easy macaroni salad recipe

Pasta salad is something that’s really easy to make and tweak to your liking. I suggest chopping the celery and onions into extremely small pieces. It’s the best way I know of to allow the flavour to permeate through the whole bowl. It’s also easier to get picky kids to eat it!

If you don’t normally buy olive oil, no worries. Your favourite variety of oil will work just as well. Olive oil seems to give this old fashioned creamy macaroni salad a little extra boost of flavour and it’s better for you, health-wise. I’m not too sure about using coconut oil. But, if you’re feeling brave, why not give it a shot?

Making this recipe for old fashioned macaroni salad definitely isn’t rocket science. You may have to alter the macaroni salad with eggs recipe a bit, the first couple of times, to finally get the taste to where you want it to be. Once to accomplish that, it’s a great “bring a dish to pass” option that almost everyone loves.

How to easily peel boiled eggs

To ensure your boiled eggs peel as easily as possible, try this. Add salt to the water. When the eggs are finished boiling (around the 12 minute mark) run cold water over them until they’re cold. Next, crack each one on the counter a couple of times and put it back into the cold water for about 10 minutes. This typically makes the peeling process super easy!

Search engine optimization, or SEO for short, is something that every blogger needs to be aware of. However, in learning SEO, it can be overwhelming and become a headache. Here’s some SEO tips to start you off.

5 SEO Tips for Bloggers

5 SEO Tips for Bloggers

1. Write a persuasive title for your article.

Just like shopping for a book, a lot of people look at the cover, and also surf for catchy titles. Your article title needs to grab attention. Adding catchy adjectives can literally make the difference between someone clicking and reading your article, or keeping surfing. Your article title is what will be seen on search engine results and on social networks, so make it count!

As a bonus, if you’re having problems coming up with a great title for your blog post, you can use the Blog Title Generator tool to help.

2. Try to make sure all of your articles are over 300 words.

If you really want your article to be seen better by Google, even Google recommends keeping your articles no less than 300 words. Google wants to see long form content, and the longer your article, the better.

Blogging expert Neil Patel, actually says the sweet spot for articles are between 750 words to 1500 words, with above 1500 word blog posts being the sweetest.

Those links allow Google to find and crawl other content on your website, as well as entices your visitors to click and read those articles. If you want people to stay on your website longer, you have to link to other related content that could persuade them to view more pages.

4. Write naturally, uniquely, and research your topics.

Well written, and unique content is what Google loves to see, and also what people are looking for. There are so many websites that may have content similar to you, but if you have information that no other person has, that can make a difference in how your article is ranked, as well as how many people will want to read it. Your blog content and keywords should represent your business. If you are using WordPress then you can get help from a WordPress SEO service I think.

How to Get the Best Seating in Disney Theatre Attractions

So how can you get the best seating in Disney theatre attractions? Here are some tips:

1. Arrive early.

Sure, there may be long lines but if you want excellent seating, you will want to arrive early.

2. Be early but don’t be the first group in a row.

Cast Members will ask for guests to move all the way to the end of the row. Being first one in will actually put you on the far side rather than in the middle.

3. Don’t be the family that sits in the middle forcing everyone to walk over them.

4. Plan ahead.

Have a target row in mind so the group can follow you as you make your way to your coveted seats. TIP: Middle of the row about 5 or 6 rows from the stage is usually a good area.

5. Front row is awesome, except when there’s a smoke effect.

A few of the live stage shows have a smoke effect that often invades the first couple of rows. Front rows are often reserved for wheelchairs and their families.

6. There isn’t a bad seat in the house.

As long as the children can see past the Mickey ears the person in front of them is wearing, the best seat is the one your family get to enjoy the wonderful show from.

Ropot Review: Enjoy Quick and Easy Dinners

242

The kids are back to school! With this change comes a busier schedule for our family. We have after school activities and playdates to work our family meals around. There are nights when, as parents, we relent to a junk night, but we want to try to have as many healthier dinners together. Ropot, a machine that quickly prepares meals, understands the need for busy families to be able to enjoy a home-cooked meal together. They asked our family to try making a family favourite dish in one of their machines to see how quick and easy it could be. I could not wait to test it out.

The Ropot was created to make cooking quicker and easier for you family. The built-in paddle stirs the ingredients and to continually at the right speed. The upper and lower elements help to cook your meal thoroughly. Once the meal has cooked completely, the Ropot will shut itself off to prevent over cooking. Finally, an aspect your kitchen will love, is that it has a seal-tight lid that keeps splatter inside of the unit, preventing a mucky mess to clean up after dinner is done.

The inner pot is a 4-inch deep by 10-inch in diameter, triple-layer, non-stick pot. This allows for a good-sized meal to be cooked at one time. Dish duty is simpler with only one pot to wash.

How easy is it to cook in a Ropot?

All you have to do is prep your ingredients, place them in the Ropot, close the lid, select a cooking mode, and let the Ropot take over.

Not sure how you can cook with a Ropot: Here are the many different ways you can prep your meals:

  • Stir fry
  • Braise/Steam
  • Stew
  • Pan fry
  • Sauté
  • Roast
  • Manual
  • Toss (when certain dishes need extra seasoning near the end of cooking).

Time to get cooking!

One of my favourite meals to enjoy, is beef stew. It is such a warm and hearty meal to sit down to with a family. The only issue with I have with making beef stew is the amount of time it takes to cook. A good beef stew on the stove takes at least two hours to complete. The only days we would want to make this dish is on the weekend. Our hectic schedules make it hard to make this meal during the week.

I could not wait to try out the stew function on the Ropot with my beef stew recipe. Putting it together took the same amount of time, but there was a drastic amount of difference in time when I used the Ropot.

After I braised my beef and prepped the rest of my ingredients, I put them all into the Ropot, put the lid down, set the unit to the Stew function, and let the Ropot cook. You can also put raw meat in the Ropot.

Enjoy Quick and Easy Dinners with Ropot

The Stew function is programmed to run for 20 minutes. Once the cycle was complete, I gave things a taste, and decided to let it go for another cycle.

The end results…

When the machine buzzed for the last time, I gave this beef stew another taste, and oh, it was ever ready! The beef and the veggies were tender. I found the broth to be thick and rich. There was also a lot of stew in the pot, so I was happy that there would be enough for my family to enjoy.

And the taste? It was really good! I was so happy it came out this well. My other half was a bit skeptical about how well this stew was going to turn out. He was impressed by the tenderness and the taste of this beef stew!

One thing to consider

There is one thing I have to share about the Ropot that I feel may improve the experience for users. It is great to have so many functions to choose from on this expedient machine. I believe it would become even more valuable if there was a keep warm function. We made our stew, but we were not ready to eat it at the time it finished. It would be amazing if this function was on this unit to keep a meal warm for longer, it would make cooking dishes in it so much better!

More quick and easy dishes to come!

Overall, I was really happy with our Ropot! It was simple to use, I was able to easily adapt a favourite family meal to be made in a fraction of the time in this machine, and it lessened the amount of clean-up after dinner. Though there were a few features that I wished were different about this unit, my family and I were happy with the results we experienced. We cannot wait to try out more of our family’s favourite recipes in our Ropot!

Ottawa Laurier House National Historic Site Review

4

Nestled in the vibrant neighbourhood of Sandy Hill is the Laurier House National Historic Site. It was home to two of Canada’s Prime Ministers and contemporaries Sir Wilfred Laurier and William Lyon Mackenzie King. What makes this site a must-visit is that it is the one in Canada where visitors can experience a residence while sitting in office. I was asked by Parks Canada if I would like to step back in time by taking a tour of this great home. The history buff in me could not pass up this opportunity!

Step Back in Time at Laurier House Historic Site #ParksCanada

Laurier House National Historic Site

Laurier House was originally built in 1879 and is an example of the Second Empire Style. It was purchased in 1898 by friends and supporters of the Liberal Party for their newly elected Prime Minister, Wilfred Laurier. He and his wife, Zoe, lived there until each of them died (Wilfred Laurier in 1919 and Zoe in 1921). Zoe left the home to fellow William Lyon Mackenzie King in her will and he took over the residence until his death in 1950.

Welcome home!

Stepping into this home was like stepping back into history. Once we passed the foyer, I noticed these two fluffy friends on a table in the hallway. Miranda, our guide around Laurier House informed us that Parka the Beaver and Pat the Irish Terrier were on hand to make younger visitors feel less anxious while touring this site. Their fuzzy faces made me feel more at home when I saw them.

More personal rooms to explore at the Laurier House

One of the rooms that spoke to me was the Master Bedroom. Both Laurier and King used this space as their bedrooms while they inhabited this residence. We were careful to not disturb any of the artifacts while in this room. The furniture, the artwork, and the collection of canes in the room put into perspective what these men were like away from their roles as leaders of Canada.

Sunny. Bright. Homey. These are three ways to describe how I felt when we visited the Breakfast Room. While King used this room to start a day of leading a nation, the Lauriers had used this space as the housekeeper’s room. I could see why King loved being in this room to start his day. It feels like a peaceful area to take your first meal of the day.

A more hands-on experience at the Laurier House

The Kitchen is the one room that could not be put together in the same style as it was when Laurier and King lived at Laurier House. Instead, it serves as a Canadian home front kitchen that would have existed during World War II. A housewife welcomes visitors to this part of the house and shares what life was like for women during this era in Canada.

I really enjoyed this part of Laurier House National Historic Site as it is one of the most interactive spaces throughout the site. Visitors learn about topics such as rationing, recycling, working outside of the home, and how they volunteered to do their part to contribute to the war effort. The refrigerator was a fun feature in this space. Visitors are able to sneak a peek inside to see how Canadians traditionally would have stocked this appliance. It was so interesting to see the differences and the similarities between a kitchen during this era and the ones that we have in our homes.

It’s tea time!

The last spot we visited was the L-shaped veranda of the Laurier House National Historic Site. It was a perfect spot for visitors to sit and hide from the heat of the day. Comfy chairs and tables make it easy to enjoy this area of the house.

An added bonus to the tour I had to Laurier House was the Sweet Picnic Tea on the Veranda Experience this site offers visitors for an extra charge. This service happens during July and August from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. A selection of self-service tea accompanies each basket to fully enjoy a warm summer afternoon.

Visitors indulging in this experience will each receive the following treats in your picnic basket:

  • 2 Delicate Shortbread Cookies with Brown Butter Glaze
  • 2 Spiced-Vanilla-Coco Cookies
  • 1 Chamomile Biscuit Roll.

More reasons to visit the Laurier House National Historic Site

Whiskey Tasting

Laurier House offers other experiences for visitors to enjoy. They have a Whiskey Tasting to host a premium whiskey and food pairing evening on September 7thfrom 7:00 pm  –  9:00 PM. An event like this goes well with this historic site because it goes along with the character and culture heritage of this site. It also compliments the era in which whiskey was popularized. Local and imported cheeses, hand crafted chocolate, and locally baked goods will also be served.

The cost of this experience is $125 (plus tax) per person, and only happens once a year.

Fact or Fiction Evening

Do you think you know a lot of Prime Ministers Laurier and King? Attending a Fact or Fiction Evening is a must! Attendees must compete against each other to figure out which of the stories presented by the host of the night. Players can test their knowledge about these Prime Minister’s lives. Light refreshments are served during this event.

The cost of this experience $14.70 per person, and reservations are required. Dates for the 2019 season of this event will be available soon. Reservations for this event can be made by calling Laurier House at 613-992-8142 or on their website.

A historic site to visit again and again

There are so many things for visitors to enjoy at the Laurier House National Historic Site. Touring the various house that two Prime Ministers called home makes you feel as though you are stepping back into time. The rooms Take visitors back in time to when these two Prime Ministers lived. Exploring the interactive kitchen is a fun learning experience. The Sweet Tea Picnic on the VerandaExperience was a delicious affair. I could go back again and again to this historic site to take in more of it. There really is A LOT to learn about this home that housed two of Canada’s leaders. I cannot wait to visit again!

4 Tips To Help Keep Your Home Cleaner This Winter

9

Winter in many places across North America is a time of family celebrations and beautiful pristine views. It can also be one of the messiest times of the year, where moisture and cold make it very difficult to keep your home cleaner and free of dirt and slush.

With popular outdoor activities like skiing, snowmobiling and skating going in full swing, it’s likely that your floors and carpets will be put through the wringer during the winter. Wet boots, shoes and socks are constant in the season of cold and snow and it can be a tough job keeping up with the mess.

Tips From The Pros To Help Keep Your Home Cleaner This Winter

We have put together some quick and easy tips from the professionals at the Filthy Cleaning company to help you get ready for the winter. Follow these low cost and low-maintenance guidelines to help fight the dirt and snow all winter long.

Tips To Help Keep Your Home Cleaner This Winter

1.Put Out The Boot Trays

If you have a protected area like a mudroom or a garage entrance this is the perfect place to set out a boot tray. Available in many stores and online, boot trays can keep a large amount of dirt, salt and melted snow from ever making it to your floors. Made from a variety of materials like rigid plastics to decorative metals, boot trays allow your footwear to drain while keeping the mess all in one place. If you are in a pinch, you can even use a cookie sheet for a quick solution for those unexpected storms.

Tips From The Pros To Help Keep Your Home Cleaner This Winter

2. Double Up On The Doormats

We cannot stress the importance of having plenty of doormats placed at each entrance to your home. The best idea is to have mats on both sides of the door. One on the exterior to allow for the banging and scraping of the larger messes and one on the inside to allow for a spot to remove your footwear.

Doormats don’t have to be expensive, but they are a valuable tools against the slush, sand and snow that can get tracked into your home. Have several mats overlapping in your entryways and along any main entrance hallways to help keep your floors in great shape all winter.

3. No Shoes Rule

The winter months is a great time to instill a “No Shoes” rule throughout your house. This can apply to not only your family but your guests as well. The less contact any footwear has with the interior floors of your home, the better they will be able to hold up during the season. For guests, you can have a basket by your entrance with soft and warm hand knitted slippers to help them keep their feet warm once they are indoors.

4. Daily Mopping & Vacuuming

Daily cleaning may seem like a lot of extra work but it will be worth the effort in the long run. Keep a wet mop or a Swiffer near your entrance for quick cleanups and make sure to give the whole area a wipe down at the end of the day.

For cleaning your doormats, give them all a good shake outdoors a few times a week to get rid of any dirt or salt that may be clinging to the fibres. Taking your vacuum across the extra mats a few times a will help keep them clean and prevent dirt from building up and making it on to your floors.

Tips for Visiting Disney as a Multi-Generational Family

10

Disney World is a wonderful vacation destination for family members of ALL ages! If you’re searching a possibility that works well as a multi-generational option, this is it. Keep reading, for tips on how to get the most out of a trip of a lifetime everyone will enjoy. You will find below our tips on Visiting Disney as a Multi-Generational Family!

Visiting Disney as a Multi-Generational Family

Tips for Visiting Disney World with Grandparents

You’re never too old for Disney, and this includes Disney World park. Planning to visit Walt Disney World with a Multi-Generational Family, including grandparents, is a smart choice for many families. You may be able to get a discount when you book as a group, you’ll have more adults around to keep eyes on children and you can make memories together with the entire family.

Here are some tips for visiting Disney World with grandparents:

1. Plan for the Weather

You will spend a lot of time outdoors and young children and the elderly are more heavily impacted by the heat. There could also be summer thunder or rain storms in Florida, so you should have plans for if that happens as well.

2. Choose a Hotel Onsite

Whenever possible, you should try to stay on property when visiting Disney World with grandparents. There’s a lot of travel and walking involved as is, and if you are sleeping off-site, it will be even more difficult to get the grandparents here and there. If you stay on a Disney resort, you just get up and get going right in the park.

3. Make Dinner Reservations

Restaurants in the park fill up fast and young children and the elderly are too groups who don’t do as well with waiting to eat after a long day walking around the park. If you make dinner reservations, you can ensure a table will be waiting for you when you’re ready to sit down and eat.

4. Plan to Visit Attractions Suitable for all Ages

There are some rides and attractions that grandparents may not enjoy but the great thing about Disney is that there is something for everyone. Plan your attractions with the grandparents in mind. They may not want thrill rides as much, but there is plenty for them to do.

Tips for Visiting Disney as a Multi-Generational Family

With these tips, you can begin planning your visit to Walt Disney World a Multi-Generational Family. One of the most wonderful things about Disney parks is that they are designed with the whole family in mind. There are things to see and do for people of all ages – young and old. This is truly one place you CAN take the whole family to enjoy.

1. Let Someone Take Charge

It’s sometimes hard to plan an organized vacation when more than one person is trying to take charge. To remedy this, choose one person to make the final decision on things like hotel rooms and trip itinerary. Of course, this doesn’t mean the whole family can’t give their input during the planning process. In fact, in situations like this, the more input the better!

2. Plan Everything

Any trip ends up much more organized when you spend time planning beforehand. But, it’s totally crucial in regard to a Disney vacation. There’s SO much to explore in each of the parks, which makes it difficult to decide where to go first without being overwhelmed.

If you head into the park with an itinerary in hand, you use your time more efficiently. This, in turn, allows you to see as much as possible before it’s time to go. I created a Disney Park Planner printable that will allow you to enjoy the park and plan out the perfect vacation.

3. Get the Right Accommodations

Since you’re going to spend every night of your vacation in a hotel room (or rooms), make sure you book accommodations that are right for the whole group. If you’re traveling with kids, choose a Disney resort with kid-friendly activities such as a pool or play area. If there are elderly members in your party, it’s important to establish they have access to everything needed in order for a comfortable stay.

4. Visit Everyone’s Favourite Attractions

Before you set out on your trip, ask everyone to do a bit of research and write down one or two of their favourite Disney rides or attractions. Obviously, younger kids will probably need assistance with this. Next, compile a list to take with you. It’s the best way to ensure everybody gets to see what they want to see, even as part of a rather large group.

5. Take Turns Watching the Kids

Assigning one person to keep an eye on the younger set for the entire trip is a bad thing to do, especially for the designated individual. It’s a MUCH better idea to ask the adults in your group to take a turns with babysitting duties.  This way, everyone (including parents) get some downtime to just relax… if only for an hour or two.

Most Disney resorts offer child care services as well. Although you pay for the service, it’s another affordable way to treat yourself to “adult time” when visiting Mickey and his pals. You typically get the choice of in-room service or taking advantage of one of the child care centres. All babysitters are certified in first aid and child/infant CPR.

6. Be Prepared to Splurge

Traveling to Walt Disney World with kids can be expensive for many reasons. That being said, set aside a daily spending limit (if possible) to use for souvenirs, entertainment, etc. The last thing you want to do is spend the whole vacation saying no to fun requests and possibilities.

These are just a few things to think about when traveling to any Disney park location as a multi-generational family. For most, it’s a beyond magical adventure… not soon to be forgotten!

Have a magical trip!

Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer – Review

238

It’s that time of the year again! Families are getting ready to go back to school and there are so many supplies needed to be ready. One item a family relies on, especially if they have a computer, is an Epson printer. A great printer would be able to print, copy, and scan to make, not only to get work done, but to give a hand with crafts and activities. Epson knows how important having a printer that can handle many different jobs. They asked my family if we would like to see if their Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer would help make work and play easier in our home. We were really excited to out it through its paces.

Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer – Review

Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer - Review
Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer on a table.

What makes this Epson printer so great?

The Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer makes it easy to work and play at home. It functions as a printer, a scanner, and copier to get tough office and crafting jobs done. The ET-2750 also makes printing a snap by offering wireless printing from tablets, smartphones, plus Wi-Fi Direct and 2-sided printing.

One of the beauties of this all-in-one printer is that it does not rely on the use of cartridges. Instead, it is equipped with an easy-to-fill, supersized tanks. These tanks are able to hold up to two years of ink. That is the same as printing 6 500 black or 5 200 colour pages or using about 30 ink cartridge sets.

Epson Expression ET-2750 Eco-Tank Wireless All-In-One Printer ink
Bottles of printer ink on a table.

Are you thinking of the potential mess the ink bottles can create? Well, each ink bottle has an auto-stop function to prevent this from happening. All you have to do is put the bottle on its corresponding tank and let the ink pour in.

Setup is as simple as 1-2-3

I am not the most tech savvy person, so I was a bit worried about making sure this printer was setup properly. The instructions were easy to follow, and the ET-2750 ready to use in minutes.

Printing fun in a flash

Being able to print wherever we are in our home a convenience. The ET-2750’s wireless printing feature allows me to find and print what I need anywhere in my home without having to be connected to my printer.

I connected the printer to our Wi-Fi and downloading the suite to my computer and smartphone, then I print what I want. I can print off certain items, like contracts, that need to be signed by hand. My kids can then pick up what they want from the tray and write or colour to their heart’s content.

Copying made easy

When my kids needed more sheets to practice their writing skills or do crafts, it was easy to do with the ET-2750. I switched the printer mode and copy what I needed. The copies came out as well as what we originally printed. My kids are happy to know they do the learning sheets and their favourite crafts whenever they want without having to constantly search for it on the computer.

Scanning in a snap

As a blogger, you have to keep track of certain documents in order to be successful. Having copies of contracts, receipts and other documents is made easier to reference if electronic versions are easy to have on hand. The ET-2750 helps to create and store these documents in a snap. All had to do is follow these quick steps to make the copies on my computer I would need to read later:

  • Switch the settings on the printer to the scan mode
  • Place the document I need to scan on the screen to be scanned
  • Hit the OK button to begin scanning
  • Put the electronic copy in a file to view later.

This would also come in handy for my eldest when she has an assignment and wants to have a copy of a book she has to return to school on a laptop to reference while doing an assignment. I can also use this function to scan photos I took before smartphones became a popular place to save special photos.

Crisp photo quality

Printing, scanning, and copying from normal paper is one thing, but printing on photo paper is a bit different than its counterpart. The paper we used in this printer (not included) was a premium semi-gloss photo paper. We also had to make sure to pick up the photo out of the printer gingerly from the edges, so we did not disturb the ink as it dried.

Crafting?

Having a printer to help out with parts of a craft makes getting a project easier to put together. The functions of the ET-2750 gave me an assist in creating a photo craft for our furry family member, Boots (He is the handsome cat in the photo collage above).

I used the Wi-Fi function of this printer to print a photo from my smartphone of our fur friend. I then found some lettering in a word document application on my laptop to find fun font to personalize this project. With some cute craft paper, handmade embellishments, and a touch of glitter (he loves sparkly objects), this craft is complete. I love the convenience this printer provided. I did not have to leave home to have a photo printed.

5 Gardening Tips For Avoiding Back Pain

13

People tend to mistakenly think of gardening as a soft, serene activity. And, yes, while many find it relaxing, it can also be quite a punishing workout, especially in the hotter months (when most people do their gardening). All that bending over, digging, pulling weeds – it’s not only exhausting, but it can be a source of excruciating back pain. If you are prone to back pain, yet still want to maintain your garden personally, follow these few tips to avoid discomfort.

5 Gardening Tips For Avoiding Back Pain

1.Warm Up With Some Stretching

You were probably taught to stretch before a workout, and the same ought to apply for gardening – it is, after all, quite the workout. Stretching is thought to increase your flexibility and extend your range of motion, in this case allowing you to bend and twist (within reason) without overextending yourself. Stretching alone can’t save you from back pain, but it’s certainly a good start, and should be part of any gardener’s routine.

2. Avoid Twisting Motions & Be Careful When Lifting

There is no amount of stretching that can save you from a bad twist, which can put stress on your spine’s discs and cause some serious back pain. Sudden, jerky twisting, as well as prolonged flexion can cause pain, so make sure you are careful with your movements and listen to your body for when it has had enough bending. Also, when you are lifting those planters or pots, practice safe lifting – standing close to the object, squatting, and lifting with your knees, not your back.

3. Take A Few Water Breaks

Water breaks are just great for your overall wellbeing, but in regards to back pain they serve two functions. One is to simply get you to stop and take a break, thereby ensuring you do not extend yourself for too long. The other reason you should take water breaks is because a hydrated body is less likely to suffer problems. Those flowers aren’t the only things that need a bit of water every once in a while!

4. See A Chiropractor

If you are experiencing back pain, or know that you are prone to it, do yourself a favour and start looking for the best chiropractor in your area; they will not only help by offering spinal adjustments, but they will also offer you usable tips for avoiding back pain in the future. Not sure what stretches to do? Ask a chiropractor. Not sure what motions you should and should not be making when you garden? Ask a chiropractor. You get the idea!

5. Make Use Of Your Gardening Tools

Gardening tools are made to be of service, so use them. They even make garden tools especially for people suffering from back pain, including a garden kneeler and an extendable weed remover. These ergonomically designed tools are a godsend for the person who loves gardening but hates feeling pain the next day.

In the same way you tend to your garden, you must also tend to your body, making sure it gets the sustenance it needs and avoids being pulled around too much. Here’s to gardening pain-free!

Enhance Memories with CanvasChamp Canada Review

Memories. We like to capture them in photos on our smartphones and share them over our social media channels or put them in frames. Both of these methods are great, but there is nothing that makes these moments in time pop. CanvasChamp likes making memories special by transferring your favourite photos onto canvas. This can help to bring special moments to life and make a specific spot in your home more of your own. They asked if they could take a special image of mine to help enhance this memory by creating a canvas print. I was curious to see how it would turn out!

Decisions, decisions!

I thought that the process of putting an image onto to canvas was going to be difficult. With CanvasChamp, it was simpler than I thought. The first thing I had to do was go through all of my images to find one I wanted to put onto a canvas. I love photography and nature. I wanted to do something special with one of my first shots I took that came out well. This was the perfect opportunity to do it.

Easy steps to follow with CanvasChamp

Once I found the photo I wanted to use, CanvasChamp took over. Here are the steps to get custom canvas prints with CanvasChamp:

  1. Import image (you can grab them from your Facebook, or Instagram)
  2. Choose the size of your canvas print
  3. Choose the border around the print (it could mirror, wrap around the border or have a border colour).
  4. Optional colour finishing (this is an extra fee to help protect the image from fading due to light exposure.

There are also other refinishing options to help enhance look of your canvas print such as:

  • Lamination
  • Mirror photo retouching
  • Proof request (so you can see what your canvas print will look like before you receive it).

What I really enjoyed while ordering my custom canvas pint was how simple it was to go back and make changes to my order before paying for it. It only took a few seconds to return to the page I needed to edit to make the changes I needed.

There is also a free option for customers to have a follow-up with your order. It is CanvasChamp’s way of making sure customers are satisfied with their orders. This is a great feature because it allows for customers to ask questions or voice their concerns about their order.

From the computer to the wall

When my canvas print arrived at my door I could not wait to see what it looked like. I was impressed with how it was packaged. There were three layers of packing plastic, secured with tape around the edges to help secure it and protect it from damaging weather. Once the box is opened, there is more protective film around the canvas print to further protect it from harm.

Here is the finished product.

I was really happy with how my first great photo memory turned out. The tulip leaves and the edges of the snow were crisp and clear. I was really happy with choosing to have the image wrap around the print as it is a continuation of the image and makes the print look really nice. I feel that the colours of the print came out a touch darker than the photo I used, but I am still so happy with the print itself.

The walls around my home are all open and ready for a touch of décor to enhance the space they are in. I chose to put this print at my workspace. It This space has a view of the backyard where this tulip pops out of the snow every spring. It is such an inspiring space, and this print is adding more life and inspiration to this spot in my home.

Enhance Memories with CanvasChamp

Not a photo person?

Are photos not your thing? You could have an image like an emoji, phrase, or even lyrics on canvas! Anything image with meaning can be put on a canvas from CanvasChamp. This print can be put in your child’s room, a game or rec room, or music room to add some character to these spaces!

CanvasChamp is an easy way to enhance a space

I am so happy with how my custom canvas print turned out from CanvasChamp! Though the image seems a bit dark, I love the beautiful results. The image on the print is sharp, I love how the image wraps around the print and how it adds life to my workspace. I would love to have more of my favourite photos put on canvas to adorn the walls of my home. I would have ones of my kids done to put in their bedrooms, a photo or two of our cat, and other fun photos. Canvas prints are so easy to have done and are a great way to enhance our images and our home at the same time!

How Parents and Students Can Inspire School Spirit

2

How Parents and Students Can Inspire School Spirit

If you live in North America and you send your child to public school, the quality of education they are receiving could vary wildly. The sad truth is that certain schools have amazing facilities and others are completely under-resourced, with parents and teachers having to go the extra mile to fill in the gap. This type of incongruity based on district lines is unfair and extremely regrettable, but since the world is not a utopian fantasy, for the time being, we have to make do with the current system. Not to say anyone should be apathetic, but it’s important to be realistic.

Depending on what state or province you live in, there may be less money than ever (adjusted for inflation) going into public school resources. In Ontario, recently elected premier Doug Ford is removing crucial sex education and truth and reconciliation (with regards to the Indigenous community) programming from the curriculum and pulling thousands of dollars of funding that was earmarked for school repairs. For Ontario teachers trying to give their students a robust, well-rounded education, the coming years will be a challenge, to say the least.

How Parents and Students Can Inspire School Spirit
A woman in a classroom

In Oklahoma, public schools are so underfunded that many teachers spend their own pocket money on school supplies for the classrooms, or simply up and move to states like Texas, where the average annual income of a teacher is roughly double. This income disparity has inspired Oklahoma teachers to strike and to engage in local politics to enact positive change for public education.

Public education provides the foundational training for future generations to connect and engage with the world and lead us into the future – if the funding and the effort aren’t there, young people will have a much tougher time finding their way to a lucrative, meaningful career. Whether you’re a high school student, or the parent of a child in public school one of the best things you can do – aside from lobbying your local government – is to donate your time and resources to your local public school to give kids a better experience.

How Parents and Students Can Inspire School Spirit
How Parents and Students Can Inspire School Spirit

Here are a few practical suggestions of how to do this:

Donate:

Donating cash is one thing, but if you can get your hands on art supplies, sports equipment, musical instruments or computers, these will make a huge difference to an underfunded school. Many schools are also working with outdated textbooks that contain outdated stereotypes or scientific information that has been proven wrong. Talk to the principal and teachers and figure out the school’s greatest weaknesses. If you have money or resources to spare, start at the weakest point and work from there.

How Parents and Students Can Inspire School Spirit
2 men and 2 women wearing blue “volunteer” shirts.

Volunteer:

If you have language skills, creative writing expertise, sports coaching skills, musical ability or if you’re a chess wizard, volunteer to lead an extra-curricular club. After school clubs where kids might encounter a hobby that leads to real-world skills, problem solving and creativity can make a huge impact. You could even order custom hoodies in Canada no matter what province the school is in, with the club’s name and logo on it to raise up school spirit and give the kids a souvenir to remember the experience.

Make Your Voice Heard:

If you’re a student who enjoys debating and writing essays, write to your local politicians and tell them your school needs more resources. As parents, you can do this too, but hearing a message loud and clear straight from the young people who are being undervalued and shortchanged sends a pretty powerful message.

Assess your day-to-day routine

  • Many of us feel stressed from time to time, but did you know routine stress can take a toll on your body? If you’ve been having trouble with your digestion, frequent headaches, sleeplessness or just feeling irritable, stress may be the culprit (read more here). Assess your day-to-day routine to see if there are things you can do to reduce your stress levels, like carving out time that’s just for you or making a conscious choice to say “no” when you really don’t have the time for a new task.

Maintain the health of your hair

  • For many of us, hair represents a big part of our personal identity. But as you get older, you might find your hair is getting weaker. To help maintain the health of your hair, try a supplement like Priorin®. Yeast infections

  • Did you know the common yeast infection is actually caused by some of the organisms present in the vagina? A weak immune system, pregnancy, and oral birth-control pills are a few things that make women more prone to yeast infections (read more here). Though it might be common, it shouldn’t be left untreated. Canesten’s CanesOral Combi-Pak® is a single-dose oral treatment that you can take anytime, anywhere and the external cream gives you fast relief of itching and burning.

Health monitoring

  • One of the most basic pillars of your self-care is health monitoring and talking to your doctor about which tests and exams you will need at each new stage of life. Pap smears, breast exams, skin checks, dental check-ups and eye exams are examples of basic tests you should talk to your doctor about.

Physical activity

  • We all have days where going to the gym might feel like a chore, but there are plenty of other ways to get some physical activity in during your week! Before summer ends, consider enjoying the beautiful weather (while we still have it) by talking walks with your family or friends. Staying active will help you stay fit and strong to conquer whatever life throws at you next!

7 Reasons You Should Start an Ecommerce Business Now

5

Last year, there were over $1.9 millions spent on ecommerce purchases in Canada alone. According to research, the growth of e-commerce is coming not only in the volume of purchases, but also the breadth of goods and services that Canadians are purchasing. Canadians report purchasing clothing (42%) and travel (40%) online in large numbers. These studies and surveys demonstrate the rapid shift that consumers are making towards online purchasing in addition or as opposed to traditional, in-store purchases.

As ecommerce sales continue to rise, there’s more and more demand for ecommerce businesses to provide the products and services that consumers are looking for. Whether you want a side gig or are looking for a replacement for your full-time job, an ecommerce business has potential.

7 Reasons You Should Start an Ecommerce Business Now

Reasons You Should Start an Ecommerce Business

There are a lot of reasons that you should consider starting an ecommerce business today, but here are a few:

  1. You Don’t Have to Conceptualize, Manufacture, or Even Stock any Products

Depending on the type of ecommerce business you choose to start, you may not have to come up with a product idea, manufacture a product, or even stock any product at all. For example, when you start a drop shipping business, basically all you need is a website and a dropship supplier—no warehouse, product, or office space is necessary. That means that a lot of the cost and effort of starting a business is removed; you can focus on marketing and growing your business instead of getting bogged down with other details.

  1. Ecommerce Startup Costs are Quite Manageable

As mentioned, the cost of starting an ecommerce business is a lot more manageable in comparison to the cost of starting a traditional company. Since the majority of the cost of an ecommerce business is in the cost of the platform and the website, you can get started for a few hundred dollars instead of the average $30,000 or more it costs to start a traditional business.
  1. There are Plenty of Platforms and Plenty of Support Out There

When you start a business, there’s a lot of learning by trial and error, and there’s a lot of research that needs to be done. In some ways, though, starting an ecommerce is slightly easier since there are so many different platforms that you can use and so much support available to walk you through it. Platforms like Shopify, Magneto, YoKart, BigCommerce, and many others have working platforms ready for your use, and there are plenty of blogs that offer how-tos and great advice to help you get your ecommerce business up and running quickly.

7 Reasons You Should Start an Ecommerce Business Now
  1. You Don’t Have to be “Open” to Earn Money

In a traditional business, you generally have to be open to accept orders, make purchases, and earn money. When you do an ecommerce business, though, you can earn money 24/7, even in your sleep. So, instead of focusing on getting customers into your store, you can focus on marketing and increasing your Instagram followers to bring in more business no matter what day and what hour.

  1. In Many Cases, You Can Operate from Anywhere

Because there’s not typically the need to purchase office space, get a warehouse, keep inventory stocked, or ship product, running an ecommerce business will often give you the chance to work and operate from anywhere. This means that you can take that long-awaited vacation without having to take any time off, or you can watch your kid’s game while keeping things running from the bleachers.

  1. There’s a Need in the Space

Although there are many ecommerce businesses out there already and many more opening up on a regular basis, there’s still a need in the space that needs to be filled. Online shoppers want niche products and services, so there’s plenty of opportunities for you to get involved, establish yourself, and set up your business for long-term success.

  1. You Get the Chance to Own and Run Your Own Business

Many people dream of the opportunity to own a business of their own and enjoy the freedom owning a business brings. Even though owning and running a business is a lot of work, it offers freedom, control, flexibility, and financial benefit that working for someone else doesn’t. An ecommerce business is a great way to break into self-employment and make the transition from career to dream job.

7 Reasons You Should Start an Ecommerce Business Now
7 Reasons You Should Start an Ecommerce Business Now

In Conclusion

Ecommerce is on the rise, making it the perfect time to start an ecommerce business of your own. With startup costs relatively low, the ability to work from anywhere, and the high earning potential, there’s no reason not to take the leap and become your own boss by starting an ecommerce business now.

What kind of ecommerce business have you been considering starting?

Tips for Attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a Disney event guests buy an extra ticket for. The experience takes place in Magic Kingdom after an early park closing. The event features trick-or-treating, unique character meet and greets, attractions with Halloween themed overlays, and three Halloween spectaculars. Since it is an expensive night, here are some tips to help you get the most value from your time at the party. You will find below Tips for Attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

Tips for Attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

1. Best dates to go

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party gets bigger and bigger every year. The party nights begin in late august and carry on through September and October. The earlier dates will be less crowded. The ticket prices for the evenings Disney expects lighter attendance are lower. So, by going in August or early September, you don’t only save money, you also potentially save time as well by avoiding long lines and heavy foot traffic. Strongly recommended!

2. How to get through security

Wear an appropriate costume to avoid excessive security measures. Preference lightweight and practical as you decide what to wear and remember it will be hot out. Avoid wearing too much, or too little. Skimpy is not family friendly and a costume that is too big may look like you are attempting to smuggle something.

Aside from your costume, bring as few bags as possible. Remember, glass is not allowed in the park. Don’t bring alcohol, or the usual security threats to the party. Complimentary trick or treat bags are provided upon entry, but you may choose to bring your own.

3. Go early

It’s best to schedule the party for a non park day (a day you don’t have a regular park ticket for), this way you are not paying twice for the same day. You can sleep in or enjoy a leisurely morning, then go to the party early.

The party starts at 7:00 pm but you can arrive as early as 4:00 pm. Showing up early gives you a head start on things you’d like to do at Magic Kingdom before the party officially begins.

4. Plan your night

Know your characters and attractions

Whichever is your main goal for the night, have a game plan involving what order you want to meet characters, or ride rides in. Having a route worked out beforehand is one of the most effective ways to maximize your time and conserve energy while among the crowds.

5. No Fastpass+

This event does not offer Disney Fastpass on attractions, so be prepared to stand in line the old fashioned way. If you time rides during shows and parades, you can benefit from shorter lines or even walk on wait times.

6. New experiences

Make time for made over attractions this year with special Halloween experiences in Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Mad Tea Party.  Lighting effects will transform the Tea Party, while Space Mountain will get new music and effects. Pirates of the Caribbean will add interactive elements with new pirates involving guests in a search for “Gunpowder Pete.”

6. Meal tips

Eat beforehand so you don’t spend an excessive amount of time on dinner while at the party. Bring your sweet tooth.

7. Parades and Shows

There are three showings of Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, two Boo to You parade times, and one  Happy Hallowishes fireworks spectacular.  Most people go to the first showings, so you can run around meeting characters, riding rides, and scoring candy while the first parade makes its way through Frontierland and down Main Street USA. You can wait to watch Hallowishes and stay for the third Hocus Pocus show, which is followed shortly thereafter by the second Boo to You. It’s energy efficient and leverages crowds to your benefit.
