Great Ideas to Celebrate Back to School

The first day of a new school year is a momentous occasion. Whether it’s the very first day of Kindergarten, a transition year, or just a regular first day of school, there are things you can do to make it special. Some families decide to create their own Back to School traditions, as a way of marking this day each year. I am sharing some great ideas to make back to school an awesome day to be remembered.

Celebrate Back to School with these fun ideas!

1. Throw a Back to School party

What better way to get them excited about the occasion than by having a party? You can decorate with balloons and banners, make your favourite snacks, and you can even invite friends.

2. Have a fashion show

Did you get a bunch of new clothes for the new year? Have your kids try them on and show them off to the whole family in a Back to School Fashion Show.

3. Special Dinner

Another great idea to celebrate back to school is to plan a special dinner! The night before the first day back, you should have a special dinner together. Consider going out to your favourite restaurant, or cooking up something delicious at home. This can become a tradition that you repeat each year and your kids will really look forward to it.

4. School supply scavenger hunt

Here’s a fun idea to celebrate back to school that the kids are sure to love. Take all of those school supplies you have to buy and make it into a fun game to see who can find their list of supplies first.

5. Celebration breakfast

Another idea that you can make into a fun tradition is a celebratory breakfast on the first day back. Even if your students usually eat at school, you can make something special for this very first day. Include a good luck love note card with the Back to School breakfast.

  1. To celebrate the start of the new school year, we went out for an early dinner at Boston Pizza. We don’t eat out often so it was a real treat for them.

  2. I’m sure kids will have fun with any of these ideas but I still don’t think they’ll be excited about going back to school lol
