What is a Mexican Candy Shot?

You might be thinking that this Mexican Candy Shot recipe sounds like a tasty drink, but are you curious as to what inspired its creation? This sinful sip is based on a watermelon-flavoured Mexican candy that is coated in chili powder and are in small pieces or as a lollypop.

What is a watermelon pucker

Never heard of watermelon pucker before? It is a melon liqueur that contains hints of citrus flavours. You can add this sweetly sour alcoholic additive to punch up the flavour profile of a margarita or a martini. You can substitute the watermelon pucker for Watermelon Schnapps, Sour Puss Watermelon, or Warheads Watermelon.

What is tajin spice

What is Tajin? It is a salty, citrus, and slightly spicy seasoning. It is often used to add a bit of a punch to sliced fruit and vegetables such as watermelon, mango, jicama, pineapple, or cucumber.  It is also used to garnish a creamy corn dish called esquites that is made with mayonnaise and Cotjia (an aged Mexican cheese). For this Mexican candy shooter, Tajin will be gracing the rim of the glass with the help of simple syrup.

MEXICAN Candy SHOT RECIPE VARIATIONS

  • If you are looking for an alcohol-free alternative to watermelon pucker for this Mexican Candy Shot recipe, apple juice, orange juice, strawberry juice, pineapple juice, or a non-alcoholic vanilla can be substituted in its place.
