Mint or Peppermint

There are many different types of “mint” like spearmint, orange mint, chocolate mint, and, of course, peppermint. When you decide to bake with mint, how do you know which one to use? Well, it all depends on how strong of a mint flavour you want. Mint is an aromatic herb produced by the species of the mint plant (Mentha), Peppermint has the strongest flavour with the menthol taste. Since it has the strongest menthol taste, it isn’t often used as fresh herbs in cooking. Adding a touch to your baking makes it taste and feel like Christmas any time of the year. Peppermint isn’t just used for baking, since it has some health benefits and often helps with a cough or sore throat.

Chocolate Peppermint Bread with Mocha

This peppermint mocha bread has the perfect combination of chocolate and coffee. This easy and quick bread recipe makes 1 loaf, but if you choose to wrap up some for gifts, then you will want to use mini loaf pans. A mini loaf is so much better than a slice so save the slices when you have a cup of tea or coffee with your family.

This chocolate peppermint loaf cake recipe uses crushed peppermint that you can get by crushing your own candy canes or peppermint candies better. You can get different sizes to sprinkle over top. If you don’t want to crush your own, you can find crushed candy canes in a bulk food store such as Bulk Barn.
