May The Fourth Be With You
May the Fourth be with you is actually the catchphrase of Star Wars Day on May 4th. It’s the unofficial holiday celebrating the Star Wars franchise, except if you live in California where it became an official holiday last year. It is a pun on a famous line from Star Wars, May the Force be with you. Normally you reply ‘And also with you’ or ‘May the force be with us all’.
The phrase was first used on May 4, 1979, when Margaret Thatcher took office as Prime Minister of the U.K. There was a full-page advertisement in the London Evening News congratulating her: “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.”
The first organized Star Wars Day events in Canada was actually held at the Toronto Underground Cinema on May 4, 2011. The events included the Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show, Star Wars tribute films, parodies screenings, and a celebrity judged costume contest.
