Paper Plate Snow Globes Craft With Template

I love the fanciful approach to crafts that makes fun little trinkets out of ordinary items. When I think of my favourite crafts to do with children, I think of craft paper, cotton balls, scissors, and paper plates. All the good stuff. For a unique and entertaining Christmas craft, you can make adorable Christmas snow globes out of these items. Paper plate snow globes are simple and creatively open-ended crafts that are suitable for all ages and skill levels.

This adorable craft has a snowman inside a snow globe made out of a paper plate. The craft follows 8 simple steps to complete and when you are done you will have a charming decoration for the mantle, wall, or even a scrapbook. It even comes with a free downloadable template!

Paper Plate Snow globes

Paper plates are easy to cut. Their round shape and natural framing makes them well suited to a variety of kids crafts. Paper plate snow globes take advantage of the plate’s perfectly circular base and easy to work with material. You get to decide how much of the plate you want to use. You can cut it close to the bottom to make it more globe-like or you can cut it closer to the center to give it a more domed appearance.

For this craft, I chose to go somewhere in between the two so I could have more of the plate to work with. When you choose the sky colour for your background, consider all the varieties of options including the full spectrum of blues, purples, pinks, etc. to set the stage for an atmospheric snow globe you will most enjoy.

Building a Snowman

The heart and soul of this craft is the snowman inside the snow globe. It’s so much fun to create the snowman figure, cover him with cotton “snow” and then create cute accessories for him to hold and wear. This is where the unique character of your snow globe really shines. You could also take a more traditional route by giving your snowman a corn cob pipe and a button nose.

How To Make The Paper Plate Snow Globes Craft

Step 1

Select your paper plate for this craft. Select white embossed paper for the snow part, blue for the background, and any colour of your choice for the paper plate globe stand. I chose yellow. Trace and cut out the patterns from the selected papers.

Step 2

Cut one third or less of the paper plate to give it a snow globe look. Assemble and stick the paper patterns on the paper plate.

Step 3

Select different coloured felt fabrics for the snowman accessories. White paper for the snowman base and cotton to fill the base.

Step 4

Apply glue on the snowman base and fill it with white cotton.

Step 5

Stick the felt accessories on the cotton snowman one by one.

Step 6

Stick the hat, buttons, and the scarf.

Step 7

You can use black felt or black paper to trace and cut out pieces to craft the snowman’s face and hands. These parts are very small so it’s better to trace them by freehand.

Step 8

When you are done crafting the snowman, stick it on the paper plate snow globe to complete the craft.
