Fairmont Le Château Montebello was founded in 1930 as a private club. At the time, it was quite an extraordinary amazing achievement as the red cider pavilion was built-in only 4 months. Up to 1970, le Château was used as a retreat for the “Seigniory Club”, where members from Canadian businesses and the political world such as Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, or Prince Rainier, and Princess Grace of Monaco would have the privilege of staying at Le Château Montebello. In 2015, Fairmont Le Château
Montebello celebrates 85 years in its community. To mark this milestone year, the hotel is featuring promotional deals for its 85th Anniversary. Le Château Montebello is situated off the Outaouais river between Gatineau and Montreal. It’s about 45 minutes from Ottawa and 75 minutes from Mirabel.
Unforgettable Experience at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello

Nowadays, the resort is an ideal destination both for leisure and business travelers. A picturesque surrounding and year-round activities offer their guests and their families hours of fun activities and adventures such as golf, tennis, squash, horseback riding, swimming, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, sleigh ride, as well as Canada’s only Land Rover Off-Road Driving Experience!
It had been many years since I visited Le Château Montebello and a first for my family. I remembered the elegant and charming rustic decor, the six-sided stone fireplace, and, of course, fine dining! It was a torrid rainy day when we arrived at Le Château, so I was really happy to see a car port and a friendly and courteous staff to help us unload our luggage. Check-in was a breeze and we were directed to our room. For the purpose of this review, we were given a Deluxe Room with 2 queen beds. This large room is perfect for families seeking additional space. It’s equipped with high-speed Internet access (free), a working desk, a sitting area with plush chairs and a sofa bed, a wide-screen flat-panel TV, air conditioning, an iron and ironing board, a coffee maker, and a cozy sized bathroom with shower/tub combination. The rustic elegance and warmth of the wilderness comes alive in the chalet-inspired decor!
We also had the pleasure of receiving the resort bundle as part of our stay and enjoying a few of the resort activities. It includes the most popular activities available on the hotel site, in addition to the basic inclusions (free self-parking, internet access, access to health club) you also can take part in the signature children & family activities, mini-golf, tennis, equipment rental (bicycle, canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard, etc). The resort fee is $23.00 per room and per night.
The Fairmont Le Château Montebello is also an ideal romantic getaway resort for couples! You can relax by the crystal blue swimming pools, play a game of golf, go hiking or horseback riding, walk along the Outaouais River, or take advantage a well deserve relaxation treatment at the Fairmont Montebello Le Château Resort and Spa!
The Fairmont Le Château Montebello is renowned for its exquisite fine dining and gastronomic feast! Le Château offers in-room dining as well as a selection of restaurants within the resort. At Aux Chantignoles, you can eat exquisite food such as Duck Foie Gras or Roast Prime Rib of Beef, reserve seating for their famous brunch on Sundays or for their breakfast buffet. During the summer months, you can also dine at Le Riverain and Barbecue and enjoy a BBQ with a buffet on the terrace overlooking the boats drift by. Their new facility includes a magnificent tent and heating system for a memorable dining experience. If you are looking to enjoy a coffee or a drink, you can head out to the Lobby Bar beside the six-sided fireplace or for a bistro style meal, I would recommend the Seigneurie Bar. You can also listen to the great tunes from their house band on weekends.
We ate at Aux Chantignoles for the Breakfast buffet on Saturday morning before we checked out. They served a variety of cold items like juices, pastries, fruits, cereals, yogurts, and cheeses as well as a hot breakfast such as scrambled eggs, maple crepes, pancakes, bacon, sausages, ham, an omelette bar, and more! The food was so delicious that I went for seconds! Our knowledgeable waiter recommended the maple crepes and we were not disappointed!
We really enjoyed our stay at the gorgeous Le Château Montebello! You can pretty much stay at the resort for the entire duration of your visit without having to leave the premise. They have it all for every family member! If you want an unforgettable experience for the whole family, I recommend booking your next vacation at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello!
