Best Supplies To Donate For Back To School

Back to school season is upon us! But as we go out and shop for our own children, we need to consider that there are other parents who simply don’t have the extra funds. Some families struggle to put food on the table and back to school supplies aren’t an expense they can afford. Let’s take a closer look at the best school supplies to donate!

Where To Donate Back To School Supplies

Thankfully, there are back to school supply drives hosted by stores like Staples that helps get supplies to children in need. You can also donate items directly to schools to help make sure every student has what they need to succeed. Usually community resources centres in your area will accept donations of school supplies as well.

Most Needed School Supplies to Donate

You will find below the best school supplies to donate:

Backpacks

Backpacks are always a necessity for back to school. Even if a family can scrape up the money for many of the other needed school supplies, a backpack may not be doable. If you can afford to purchase additional backpacks, they do not have to be anything fancy, do so. These will come in handy for so many families.

Paper

College-ruled, wide-ruled, construction paper, printer paper, etc. There are so many types of paper that are needed in the classroom. You can use your own child’s list of school supplies to see what may be needed. Find sales and stock up for your own kids and to donate.

Pens and Pencils

Pens, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers, erasers, printer ink – if it’s used in the classroom, chances are schools need your donations. Again, look at your own child’s school supply list to determine what the needs may be.

Hand Sanitizer and Tissues

Most students are also expected to bring tissues and hand sanitizer to the classroom. Chances are many low-income families will not be making these purchases. Donate as many of these supplies as you can to your child’s school. Hand sanitizer can greatly reduce the spread of germs during the pandemic and the cold and flu season. The same goes for tissues. On a side note, you can also donate cleaners and sanitizing wipes for teachers to use for wiping down desks.

Donate School Supplies To Teachers

Last, but not least, you can donate classroom supplies. Dry erase markers, chalk, erasers, children’s books, etc. The exact items you donate will depend on the school you’re donating to. Schools for younger children will obviously have different needs than high schools. If you’re in doubt, call the school and ask what they need. Also remember that donating your time can greatly help a school.
