Did you know a female turkey is called a hen and a male is called a Tom? Here are a few more fun facts about turkeys that you may be interested in knowing.

  • Caruncle: a small, fleshy excrescence that is a normal part of an animal’s anatomy Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.
  • Gizzard: a part of a bird’s stomach that contains tiny stones. It helps them grind up food for digestion.
  • Poult: a young domestic chicken, turkey, pheasant, or other fowl being raised for food.
  • Snood: the flap of skin that hangs over the turkey’s beak. Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.
  • Wattle: the flap of skin under the turkey’s chin. Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.

  • Coloured craft papers (gray, red, orange, yellow, and any other fall coloured paper)
  • Craft glue
  • Sharpie
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

How to Make a Paper Turkey 

Step 1:

Select gray, red, orange, yellow, and any other fall coloured craft papers for the Thanksgiving turkey paper craft pattern. Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut them out nicely. The template includes, feather base, feathers, head, body, wings, beak, wattle, and feet.

Step 2:

Attach the 2 feet cutouts on the bottom side of the body base cutout. Attach the wattle near the bottom side of the head cutout, slightly away from the middle.

Step 3:

Attach the beak cutout near wattle.

Step 4:

Take the feather base and attach the feather cutouts on the feather base cutout.

Fill the feather base with feather cutouts.
