Laundry is one of the most dreaded household chores. No one likes the hours of backbreaking work. Folding load after load after load is enough to make any busy mom scream out in surrender. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop the laundry from piling up. Thankfully, there are some laundry hacks that can make your life easier.
Laundry Hacks for Busy Moms
1. Wash One Load a Day
First thing first. Stop doing laundry one day a week. This allows the laundry to pile up to an unclimbable mountain’s worth of dirty, stinky clothes. Wash one load a day and you’ll find that laundry is much easier to handle. In fact, it won’t seem like much of a chore at all. You can purchase colour-catching sheets that will allow you to wash all sorts of colours together without worry.
2. Remove Blood and Other Tough Stains with Dawn and Peroxide
Tough stains an issue? No more. Mix 2-parts peroxide with 1-part Dawn dish soap to make a stain remover powerful enough to remove life’s worst stains. Just mix the two together and use a bit of elbow grease to scrub the stains out. This works for fresh and set-in stains.
3. Use Vinegar to Get Whites Whiter
Did you know that you don’t have to use bleach to get your whites whiter? White vinegar is an excellent addition to any laundry room. You can use 1 cup of white vinegar per load to not only whiten your whites, but also remove odours and even soften your clothes. It’s a powerhouse for your laundry.
4. Get Rid of Ink Stains with Hand Sanitizer
Did your kid get ink on his shirt? No worries. You can use hand sanitizer to remove the stain. Saturate the area with hand sanitizer and allow to set for 10 minutes before washing normally.
5. Soak Up Grease Stains with Baby Powder
Even baby powder is a great addition to your laundry room. If your husband loves to work on his car, you’ll definitely want to keep baby powder handy. You can sprinkle it on grease stains, dust off the excess, and allow it to set to soak up the grease. Repeat this process until the grease is gone.
6. Save on Fabric Softener
Did you know that you can get three times as much from your fabric softener by simply diluting it with water? You’ll want to pour your fabric softener into a bucket and then fill the fabric softener bottle with water twice to dilute it. You can then put old washcloths into the mixture and wring them out before adding to your dryer along with your washed clothes. This can save you a lot of money over the years.
Laundry doesn’t have to be complicated or even time-consuming. There are things you can do to easily remove stains, get your whites whiter, and reduce the amount of time spent sorting, washing, and folding. If you’re tired of laundry being one of the worst chores, try these hacks. These laundry hacks are sure to make doing laundry easier. Best of all, some of these laundry hacks can even save you money.
I definitely agree with one load a day. FLYLady says it keeps away Mount Washmore.
I already use the vinegar, and the softener tip. Never heard of the baby powder one though!
I think the vinegar and softener tip are the most popular ones!
