Everyone needs a vacation from time to time. If you don’t feel like travelling this summer, it doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy yourself and create lifelong family memories! Here are some fun summer staycation ideas!
9 Fun Summer Staycation Ideas
1. Splash around
There are plenty of great ways to enjoy water activities when you’re on a staycation. Visit a local beach or lake, make fun DIY water play areas in your backyard, or splash with water balloons to help cool off during the summer season.
2. Go camping
Whether you go camping in your backyard or at a state or national park, camping can make for a great staycation. Unplug from social media and enjoy the great outdoors. You can go fishing, hiking, tell ghost stories, and make s’mores.
3. Go to a drive-in movie theatre
A drive-in movie can make for a fun summer activity, no matter how old you are!
4. Explore your own city and nearby areas
If you’re on a really low budget, try to plan your staycation around your own city and visit nearby areas. If ferries are available nearby, pack a lunch, hop on a ferry and go exploring. Near Ottawa, you can take the Cumberland Ferry and head out to visit an amazing destination for the whole family, Parc Omega. While in Montebello, you can visit these family attractions!
5. Try geocachin
If you and your family love scavenger hunts, you’ll be bound to enjoy geocaching, which requires GPS navigation. It can make for a fun adventure!
6. Experience something new together
If you’ve never been kayaking, canoeing or golfing try it out together as a family! It’s peaceful, provides good exercise, and it’s fun.
7. Make your own dinner night
Have family members pick their favourite food and make it by putting all the ingredients on the table. Suggestions could be pizzas, tacos, burritos, and for dessert, a great choice would be an ice cream sundae bar.
8. Theme Nights
Each family member can decide on a theme night idea starting with the youngest child to the oldest family member. Food, entertainment and even costumes or dress up will be part of the theme.
9. Explore a new park or trail
Bring your picnic basket, blankets, and sports balls and head out to your city’s local park or trail.
