The New Parent Escape Uncensored ~ Hotel Indigo Ottawa

Hotel Indigo Ottawa - EntrancePin

It has been a very, very long time since my husband and I went for a couples only getaway. That’s right, a no kids allowed weekend! Our schedule did not permit us to go out of town, but we really wanted to take this time alone, so we decided to just spend a night on the town and book a 1 night accommodation in Ottawa. So why would we want to stay in our own City and pay for a hotel room? It has been a while since we just went downtown to walk and shop around the Parliament Buildings and Sparks Street area, and we live 40 minutes from the downtown Ottawa, so it’s kind of like a short trip for us. It was nice not to have to go where the kids normally want to and just visit by ourselves holding hands. No set agenda, thus it was extremely relaxing and enjoyable!

I was searching for the perfect hotel that would have a deal for a romantic gateway and came across Hotel Indigo Ottawa. I have to say that I fell in love with the online photos of this boutique hotel.  Now that was definitely a unique venue for us!  They also offer a New Parent Escape package at $209 per night. Well the price was definitely right, so I booked the package!

In the package, we were getting:
  • In-room movie ($16 +tax )
  • Decadent snacks ($13 value)
  • Breakfast for 2 served in our room ( 28 value + taxes)
  • Self-Parking for one vehicle ( $21 value)
  • Late check-out (3pm) (priceless)

Upon our arrival, we parked at the front of the hotel to unload our luggage. After, I went to the lobby and looked at the stylish furniture at the entrance of hotel. Nice decor! There is a lovely water fall on a wall near the reception area and they also have a business centre. Hotel Indigo offers free WiFi throughout the lobby and guest rooms, so you can spend as much time as you want staying in touch with family and friends. As I was being served by a friendly staff, I looked up, noticed the high ceiling with plenty of windows, and realized that I could see each floor and the doors to the rooms since it’s a bright open concept design. I liked the fact that I wasn’t closed in between walls, but wondered how noisy it would be at night. The staff gave my husband directions on where to park indoors and I got the cards to our room. The indoor parking, pool and fitness centre are located and shared at the Residence Inn by Marriott.

Just LOVED our room!

The first thing I noticed were the hardwood floors. Yes, no carpet full of dust or stains. There is an area rug at the foot of the bed and a beautiful dramatic wall mural of a wheat field on the main wall. On the bed was a goody bag with the decadent snacks consisting of Angie Boom Chickapop all natural popcorn, Lindt Excellence dark chocolate bar with sea salt, and a bottle of Pink Lemonade Sparkling Beverage. All so yummy, and we also brought our own Champagne to mark this special evening! There are spotlights on the ceiling and colourful lamps. The theme was set in white, blue, and green with a very nice and refreshing modern look!

My second discovery was a Keurig® Coffeemaker above the mini-fridge! I then entered the washroom and saw the shower with ceramic tiles and glass walls that could fit 2 (hum.. hum.. perfect for tonight). I told my husband this is the exact shower stall I want in our master bedroom and he agreed. I can see a renovation coming soon! There is no bathtub, but we take showers anyway, so it was not an issue for us. The cozy washrom has a granite counter top with a modern vanity and a display of Aveda® bath and hair products.

Another favourite feature is no air conditioning near the windows that shouts air in your face when you are trying to sleep and is noisy. The vent is on the ceiling near the entrance of the room and you can control the coldness with a thermostat.

Downtown Ottawa- Ottawa Mommy ClubPin

Hotel Indigo Ottawa is centrally located just a few minutes walk from shopping courts, Parliament Buildings, and museums. After walking for a few hours Downtown looking like tourists, we decided to eat our dinner at Phi Gourmet Bistro & Bar located in the lobby of the hotel. Phi is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they you can even purchase on the go lunches. We went in at 8pm and had the restaurant to ourselves. How much more romantic can this evening get!  Again the decor is so modern and stylish. For Starbucks lovers, they serve their coffee!

At the waiter’s suggestion, my husband decide to try Beau’s Beer made locally in Vankleek Hill. Beau’s beers are made using the highest quality, all natural ingredients like certified organic hops & malts and local spring water. He enjoyed it very much. For our main meal, my husband ordered the Alberta AAA Sirloin Steak and was served a 10 oz Sirloin Steak with red wine sauce, rosemary roasted potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. He said his steak was just done the way he likes it, medium, and the sauce was succulent. The portion size was good for him. I opted for the Golden Dragon Stir Fry with Chicken served with yellow peppers, onions, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, water chestnuts, honey sesame soy sauce served on rice vermicelli. Again, the meal was just tasty! It even gave me an idea for a recipe to post on the blog soon.

Also inside the hotel’s complex, you will find:
  • Bossarts Salon and Spa
  • Exquisite Blooms – Flower shop
  • Tim Horton’s coffee shop
  • End Result Fitness

We headed back to our room for some well deserved special adult time….. I don’t think I need to say more!

The next morning, we ordered room service for breakfast and it was served at about 11 am (yes, nice to sleep in with no noise from the kids) and consisted of orange juices and eggs easy side up with bacon, potatoes, toasts and preserves. It was served hot and very delicious. The beds were extremely comfortable and we did not hear a sound from rooms beside and above us or in the hallway.

In conclusion, we definitely enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Indigo in Downtown Ottawa and will be looking at booking more rooms with this hotel chain. I noticed that they also offer a family package to Calypso Water Park as well as a Personal Shopper Experience with Erica Wark; a nationally recognized stylist, TV personality and fashion blogger. I would love to spend 3 hours shopping with Erica and my daughter! Do I hear a mother-daughter weekend?

Do you make the time to have a couples getaway?

Have you booked any rooms at a Hotel Indigo before?
