San Francisco, located in Northern California, is an ideal travel vacation destination for families. San Francisco is renowned for its Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, historic buildings, delicious food, and many museums. You are bound to find many things to do with the family in the Golden City.

San Francisco Cable Cars

A great way to see San Francisco is is by taking a ride on the famous cable cars. Families will get a true feel for the hills of San Francisco without having to walk them. Don’t forget to watch the cable cars being turned around at the beginning and end of each line. Tickets may be purchased at the cable turnarounds or from the conductor upon boarding.

Places to visit in San Francisco with kids

San Francisco is world famous for its architecture. Modern skyscrapers as well as hundred year old buildings line the city streets. A walking tour around the Golden City allows for a close inspection of varied architecture. There are a number of Victorian homes to inspect from the inside as well as the outside such as the Painted Ladies. There are many office buildings that are open to the public. The lobby of the Transamerica Pyramid Center houses a display about the building as well as a virtual observation deck where adults and children may man the controls to the cameras perched at the top of the building.

A visit to San Francisco wouldn’t be complete without having clam chowder in a bread bowl. A stroll along Pier 39 will yield samples of the chowder from different vendors, often coupled with discounts to adjacent stores. The famous sourdough bowls may be filled with chili instead of clam chowder for those who don’t prefer seafood.

A welcomed treat can be had at the famous Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop. Ice cream cones, ice cream sundaes or banana splits can be enjoyed in the patio or inside the ice cream parlour.

Bike across the Golden Gate Bridge 

Families may also rent bikes and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. Adults and kids of all ages can do this as it is a great family activity. Walking across the bridge is also an option.

Children’s Museums in San Francisco

San Francisco offers many cultural opportunities for families with children. Notable child-friendly attractions include the California Academy of Sciences. This museum honours the natural world. It includes a superb aquarium, a planetarium, natural history exhibits, a live rainforest, and a living roof. The museum sells out and tickets should be purchased ahead of time.

The Exploratorium is a children’s museum where kids can touch to their heart’s content. Budding scientist may experiment, study, and learn about many different things.
