5 Easy Garage Organization Tips
Is clutter in your garage getting the best of you? Do you spend more time than necessary searching for things you need. If so, keep reading. These handy garage organization tips are just for you!
1. Take Advantage of Wall Space
Don’t let wall space in your garage go to waste. Buy inexpensive pieces of pegboard and create a hanging storage space for your tools and similar items. Another great option is pre-built storage racks, suitable for hanging.
2. Use Storage Bins
Plastic storage bins are a great tool for keeping everything in your garage organized. They’re durable, waterproof and many styles feature locking lids to keep contents from spilling if they tip.
These bins tend to be stackable, which makes it easier to store small, loose items efficiently. Stacking eliminates the need to bend in an uncomfortable position to find what you’re looking for. Plastic storage bins are readily available in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit almost every organizational needs.
3. Group Similar Items Together
Grouping similar items together is smart, because it saves time and frustration. For example, if you generally scatter tools throughout your garage, it makes it necessary to comb the entire area to locate the item you’re searching for.
4. Toss Things You Don’t Need
A common problem with garage organization is owning too much stuff. Go through everything and toss or donate the items you don’t use anymore. Let’s face it, the less you store, the easier it is to keep track of things.
5. Store Garden Tools in a Shed
Storing a mower and lawn and garden tools in the garage can really take up a lot of space. One solution is to keep these things in a shed. In the event you currently don’t own one, buying a smaller shed to store things in can be a worthwhile investment when it comes to the space it saves you in the garage.
These are just a few handy tips to better organize your garage. The best thing about them is you don’t need to take advantage of all of all five of them at once. Even committing an hour or so every day gets you one step closer to a job well done!
Our garage is a mess right now with all the yard equipment and my husbands project car. A garden shed sounds like a wonderful idea to help organize it all.
Lots of good advice as always, thanks for these tips. 🙂
Thank you for mentioning tossing what isn’t needed. That’s always the best start when reorganizing!
Yes to wall space! We put up some shelfs, and our smaller bins fit perfectly!
My son put in pre-built storage racks and built shelving so that they have room to store their Christmas Decorations, camping gear etc etc. That helps a lot, however come summer then there is literally not a spare inch on the garage floor. Their cars are parked outside and inside is the camping gear, bikes and all the other summer gear. It’ll soon all get packed away now that fall is on the way.
We recently built a garden shed that now holds all our gardening stuff. Certainly helps to declutter the garage.
My husband built a big garage and he keeps it organized by putting little in it and instead it goes in the basement. lol True statement !
That is so funny!
We don’t have a garage but I can use a lot of tips for my basement.
Yes, those would work for basements too!
