Yogurty’s Has Arrived in #Ottawa and #Win a froyo® Catering Box ~ Ottawa Area 07/07

Ottawa, there is a new frozen treat in town! It’s Yogurty’s Froyo Frozen Yogurt shop!

For the past 20 years, Yogurty’s has been providing a vast range of flavours and toppings so its customers can create a different frozen treat every time they visit. How vast, you ask? Well, Yogurty’s offers 85 different flavours and 70 different toppings (there are actually 8 flavours at the store at any given time, but the flavours and topping will change throughout the year), so you can really pop in any time of the year and try out a new flavour combination!

Yogurty’s uses farm-fresh Canadian milk to make its frozen yogurt. Probiotics are also added to their frozen treats. Along with already having calcium, potassium and vitamin, Yogurty’s frozen yogurt is delicious and nutritious!

Yogurty’s is also aware of some of the special needs and concerns some of its customers have where the preparation of its frozen yogurt is concerned. For this reason, Yogurty’s offers four different kinds of frozen yogurt: low fat, no fat, gluten free and kosher. This way, just about everyone can enjoy a Yogurty’s special treat!

Before the grand opening event, I was able to have an interview with Carlos,  the only mixologist at Yogurty’s. Below are some of the things I found out about Yogurty’s.

What does it take to become a mixologist for Yogurty’s?

A lot of passion for food! You have to love food and a have a knack for flavours as well.

Which flavours of frozen yogurt and toppings are most popular at Yogurty’s?

Red Velvet and Coconut is a very popular flavour-topping combination. So is our new Maple Bacon froyo!

For the summer months, we are coming out with non-alcoholic cooler flavours, like Classic Mojito Sorbet, Piña Colada froyo, and Strawberry Daiquiri Sorbet. Our other sorbet and sherbet are also popular now because they are lighter and fun.

In the winter months, comforting and richer flavour become more popular such as the many of our chocolate and peppermint froyo flavours.

How does Yogurty’s decide on which flavours and toppings to feature at each location?

We look at flavours that are most popular or what we think is going to be trending.  Customers send in suggestions to help create new flavours and toppings.

Since Yogurty’s has taken such care to look after its customers needs where eating its frozen yogurt is concerned, has it taken any measures to be environmentally responsible as well (i.e. – using recycled materials for its containers)?

Yogurty’s uses paper for its containers and biodegradable spoons. All of these steps make our materials easier to break down once they have been used.

Carlos and Yogurty’s made this interview so easy to conduct, and were so nice to speak with. They were also available to answer any questions I had after the interview was over. I was pleased with how well and approachable everyone was!

Saturday May 24th was the grand opening of the first Yogurty’s in Ottawa! It is located at 283 Richmond Road in Westboro. Between 1-3 PM, Yogurty’s was offering a free taste of their frozen yogurt flavours and their toppings to anyone who wanted to a delicious snack.

When my children and I arrived, it was just after 1 PM, and the party along their side of the street was in full swing! There was a D.J., dancers, and froyo the Bear, Yogurty’s friendly mascot, to get adults and kids alike into a party atmosphere. The kids were encouraged to dance and sing along to the music, and parents (like me) were cheering them on while dancing and singing along as well! My little guy did not need a push to join in on the festivities!

The party continued inside of Yogurty’s froyo® shop! There was an area where you could take pictures with froyo® the Bear, balloons adorned the shop, and, of course there were the different stations to put together your own unique frozen yogurt creations!

It was really easy to put together our Yogurty’s froyo® desserts! We followed two of their three easy steps:

Step 1: Fill The Cup

Step 2: Top It Up

Step 3: Weigh & Pay!

Since Yogurty’s was giving us lucky customers a free sampling of its froyo, we did not have to go through with this step. While my daughter was putting her frozen treat together, my son decided to entertain newcomers into the shop with froyo® the Bear by putting on a dance clinic!

Here are our Yogurty’s froyo® creations! When it was my turn to start creating, I decided to assemble the following frozen treat sensation:

Frozen Yogurt Flavor – French Vanilla
Toppings – Fresh Strawberries, Dried Cranberries, and Gummi Bears.

As for my daughter, she put together this frozen flavour explosion:

Frozen Yogurt Flavours – French Vanilla and Chocolate Truffle
Toppings – Dark Chocolate Curls, Mini Yogurt Chips, Trolli Sour Mini Worms.

We enjoyed our Yogurty’s froyo® treats outside in the shade as we watched more of the festivities outside of the shop. We had to eat it a bit quicker than we wanted to because of the sun beating down on us. It was so delicious! My kids and I were happy to have had these snacks!

With heavy hearts, we had to home. My son began to protest because he wanted to dance with Froyo the Bear and the other children for a little bit longer.

So, if you are in the Westboro area, and you need to satisfy your sweet tooth, you should pop into Yogurty’s froyo® shop and build frozen treat of your dreams!
