Homemade Caramels: An Easy and Irresistible Fresh Confection


Candy making is a skill that takes a lot of practice, but some confections such as homemade caramels are surprisingly easy to make.

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 4.5 cups of white sugar
  • 1.5 light corn syrup
  • 3 cups of whipping cream


  • Melt sugar and corn syrup in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for 5-7 minutes.
  • Melt butter and mix with whipping cream.
  • Mix very slowly into the boiling mixture ¼ cup at a time. Stir continuously.
  • Bring back to a boil and boil until temperature reaches 240 F.
  • Pour caramels into a 9×12 pan that is lined with parchment paper.
  • Place in fridge overnight.
  • Cut into pieces and then wrap in wax paper.
