Watching The Thrills and Skills of the Harlem Globetrotters

“Basketball is Life” has become a mantra in our home. I played the game throughout my teen years, and now my kids are in love the game. We even had to get each of them their own ball so they can practice their shots and their dribbling skills without having to share a ball. When we found out that the Harlem Globetrotters were making a stop into Ottawa on their world tour, we knew we had to attend because, as kids, we loved watching the Globetrotters perform their magic and we wanted our kids to experience the same wonder we once did.

On the day of the performance, my other half was not feeling well, so I made our outing to see the Globetrotter a fun mother-daughter event. The Globetrotters performed their show at the Canadian Tire Centre, and my daughter was amazed at the sheer size of the building and the amount of people she saw streaming into the building to see the Globetrotters play.

Once we walked into the doors of the area, she was instantly drawn to the merchandise table that held plenty of fun Globetrotter paraphernalia.

We then took our seats and we were entertained by dancers and DJ Globie as he was spinning tunes get the crowd warmed up for the classic game.

When the show began, the Generals came out to warm up first. Their Head Coach got the crowd upset by telling us about the Generals’ disliked the losing streak they were having against the Globetrotters since 1971, and how much he disliked Ottawa.

With smoke blowing and the crowd cheering, the Globetrotters made their appearance. They gave the audience a taste of what we were in store for that afternoon by showcasing some of their skills.

Throughout the game, it was a clinic of amazing basketball skills as the Globetrotters dribbled, skidded and shot their way through a game with hilarious antics and riddled with “unusual” calls from one of the referees.

The Globetrotters even took time out during the game to interact with crowd and talk about World Vision, the charity they support, and encouraged the audience to support to this cause.

The game went into overtime, but the Globetrotters won! My daughter loved this show (You can tell how much she liked the show by how quickly she was clapping at the end of the show)! She loved seeing all of the tricks from Big Easy, Sweet J, Ant, Scooter and the rest of the team. She was also dancing to the music that played throughout the performance. When the Globetrotters make their way back to Ottawa, we will be sure to get be in attendance to watch and be thrilled by the magic of the Globetrotters!
