Watching Magic On Ice with Elizabeth Manley and Friends

| March 19, 2015 | 10 Comments

It was a magical night of bright lights, amazing music, and phenomenal skating at on Valentine’s Day as Elizabeth Manley and Friends took over TD Place made audience members watch the special performance they put together in support of the Youth Services Bureau as well as the Physical & Mental Wellness Program of the Ottawa Senators Foundation. The show made up worth the abysmal snowfall Ottawa the city received before the evening’s performance.

Once we got our tickets and found our seats long with many other family, couples and figure skating fanatics, we took a look around at the performance space. It was smaller than I expected, so I was interested in how the skaters were going to perform in this amount of space. I was also happy that there was a big screen that would also be showing all of the action of the night so those who were not right on the ice could feel as though they were all of the action up close.

The night started off with Elizabeth Manley welcoming everyone to the show and thanking us for coming out to see the performance and for supporting the local charities that were close to her heart.

Elizabeth Manley then introduced her friend, and famous musician, Alan Frew from Glass Tiger. Manley then performed a routine as Frew and his band performed “Someday” while the audience sang along.

Then the skating began as Elizabeth’s talented friends from all over the skating world performed beautiful skating routines. Here is a list of just some of the skaters that helped to put on a show for us at TD Place: Elvis Stojko, Shawn Sawyer, Gladys Orozco, Javier Fernandez, Kimmie Meissner, Sara Hurtado, Adria Diaz, Violetta Afanasieva, and Pete Dack.

Elizabeth Manley also invited future skating stars from area skating clubs to perform and showcase their talent. They were so great, and hopefully, they will be representing Canada on the world stage in the near future.

Some of the skaters performed to fast and energetic music, while others were to slow ballads or to other songs that Alan Frew and his band played. No matter the tempo of the music, each performance was fascinating and the crowd enjoyed every minute of it!

Elizabeth Manley also took time in between performances to thank the major sponsors of the event. She was so sincere and sweet. It was great to see her enthusiasm and the pride she took in this evening to raise money for these great charities.

Overall, it was an awesome night had by all! Throughout the night, I was able to sing along, chair dance and cheer on each performer as they put on a fabulous show in the name of helping others in the Ottawa area. It really was a great night of fun, music and skating for all who attended!
