The Surprise of a Lifetime!

My day started pretty typical of every other day. Get up, grab the munckin, feed him, clean him, and watch some Mickey Mouse Club House. Then it was time for lunch, and eventually dinner.

We sat down around the table to eat our dinner. Honestly, I can’t even remember what we had, because what was about to happen next was so mind-blowing, everything else disappeared.

We finished our dinner. Well, Dylan and I finished our dinner. Marshall decided to throw a tantrum and decided mommy was the worst person to feed him today, which ended up resulting in Dylan feeding him and me being thoroughly frustrated! As I was cleaning up the plates, my husband comes in with the biggest grin on his face. (Well I’m assuming he was grinning by the way he sounded.)

Dylan: “Soo guess what?”

Me ( in a super annoyed voice): “What?”

Dylan: “I just got confirmation back, and were going to meet Brad Paisley on Thursday!”

Me: “Uh. No we’re not. I saw the price of the tickets when you bought them, and we’re in the nose bleeds. There’s no way that’s included.”

Dylan: “No, we are. I emailed some contacts and arranged for us to meet him.”

Me: “No you didn’t. You’re lying.”

Dylan: “No. It’s true!”

This went on and on for about 5 minutes because I could just not believe it was happening.

Now, Dylan knows how much I love Brad Paisley, which is why a few months ago he surprised me with tickets. What a keeper eh! I just couldn’t believe it. How thoughtful and amazing this was! This was on my bucket list! I never ever imagined in a million years would ever come true.

It turns out that Dylan emailed some people in Brad’s fan club, telling them our story.
“We met in highschool, after my wife went blind from her m.s. A few years later we were married to Brad’s song ‘She’s Everything’, and a year after we had our son Marshall. Brad is my wife’s favourite singer, and I thought if there was any chance at meeting him, well I’d just have to try and make it happen.”

This travels through the grape-vine, and what do you know. IT CAME TRUE!
Even better, our friends took Marshall for the night so we got some much needed alone time:)
All through the concert, I was so nervous. Brad paisley is my favourite singer that’s alive, and we were going to meet him!

Did I look ok? What would he be like? When would we meet him!?

Turns out we would meet him after the show. Now this was nerve-racking. We don’t drive, and we just spent 45 mins by bus getting to Kanata for the show. Now we find out after the show is when we’d meet him. YIKES. We were not sure if we would have a ride back to Ottawa. Thank god for our friends taking Marshall!

The show was absolutely amazing, of course! We spent a little too much money on food and shirts, but come on this was a once in a life time event, and we had to memorialize it somehow!IMG_4917

Then the show ended, about an hour past when it was supposed to! Now we were kind of panicking. We definetly weren’t going to have a bus back, but oh well we weren’t missing this opportunity. We put on our special badges and snuck up to the front of the line. I slightly may have taken advantage of my “blind card” and coaxed the guards into letting us go first.IMG_4915

We flew down the stairs, and then had to wait a few minutes. Those minutes felt like hours! I didn’t want to rush this, but we kinda needed to make the last bus. FINALLY we got to go in and there he was! All beautiful (I’m assuming).

He literally sounds like his singing voice when he talks. I got slightly week in the knees. (Not going to lie, I have a small celebrity crush on him.) We got a lovely picture with him, and exchanged a few words about his songs. I even got a hug!!!IMG_4931

Ahh this night couldn’t have got any better, but it did. With a mad dash we caught the last bus, and made it 95% of the way home. We had to walk the rest of the way, but it was really only like a 15 minute walk. It wouldn’t have been that bad if I wasn’t wearing a dress and ballet flats. We ducked into Tim’s, and got some drinks (I don’t know why I didn’t choose a hot one, since I was already freezing) and started our walk home, until we notice Dominoes was still open. Haha.

So again we ducked in for a quick slice (hey it was cold and the pizza was sooo nice and warm) THEN resumed our walk home.

It was the perfect end to a perfect night, all from the most perfect man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
I just want to say thank you to my husband Dylan. I thought my dreams had come true when we were married and when had our son, but you still continue to surprise me on a daily basis. I love you so much.

Until next time.

About the Author ()

A number of years ago I went blind, and as a result found out I had Multiple Sclerosis. After my diagnosis, I attended a new high school for the visually impaired. That is where I met the love of my life, my husband Dylan. Dylan helped me get through becoming blind and find joy in life again. Shortly after graduating, we moved to Ottawa together and in December of 2011, we were married. A year later we welcomed our beautiful son Marshall to the world. In 2015, after two miscarriages we welcomed our beautiful rainbow baby Charlotte into the world. It hasn't been easy adjusting to being blind and living with M.S on a daily basis , and being a mom of two on top of everything. Life has been... lets say challenging! But oh so worth it!
