The Road from Wrong to Write

| July 29, 2013 | 0 Comments

I feel like I had a mid-life crisis around the time I was 22. I’m sincerely hoping it wasn’t mid-life, because I’ve got a whole lot of living left to do but I’m pretty sure my crisis has petered off and the lessons I’ve learned have changed me to my core.

F and I in our favourite place: on the water.

I’m Ashley, a born-and-bred Bluenoser from the island of Cape Breton. If you’d met me five years ago and told me I’d be writing this first post for Ottawa Mommy Club, I would have laughed at you. Me, a parent? Pfft. And writing? Gimme a break – that’ll never happen.

I guess you could say I’ve surprised myself. I’m an expert on nothing, but I’m always busy learning new things and challenging myself.

I became a Mommy under some not-so-great circumstances, and after a hot-and-cold relationship, an elaborate wedding and badly broken heart, I’ve been making my way across my little path of life to this keyboard I’m now typing on. I shudder to think where my life might have taken me had I not been blessed with my son.

Down and out, I decided to pursue my passion for writing a little less than a year ago and it’s really panned out. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. The happy that radiates from within and gives you that tingly feeling in your tummy. I’ve met my biological family, reinvented myself, caught dreams I thought I’d never hold and made a few messes along the way.

Since donning my Mom cap, I’ve poured myself into health and wellness, fashion, motivation and figuring myself out. I’ve learned how to love myself, flaws and all.

It’s been a rough and winding path at times, and I’m sure there are more obstacles to overcome, but I welcome you to join me on my path from wrong to write, one step at a time.  You can expect a little bit of everything, from my favourite recipes and workouts to product reviews, 20-something antics,  and following my dreams to being a real, live writer. And coffee.

Expect lots of coffee.

She's still deciding what she wants to be when she grows up, over many cups of coffee and the occasional (big) glass of wine.
