The Joys of Being a Blind Mommy…

Oh where to begin?

So you know now that things have been looking up, thanks to my lovely happy pills. What a change for me, actually being happy!

So a typical day for me usually starts with waking up around 7,or 8 A.M. if I’m lucky. Feeding Mr. Marshall and watching Mickey Mouse clubhouse, Jake and the Neverland pirates, then Handy Manny. By this time it’s about 11 or 12 and again if I’m lucky Marshall will go down for a nap, and so might I. After lunch we usually play and practice our crawling and walking skills, and by practice I really mean, me constantly running around the house trying to take something away from him, or out of his mouth. Man this little guy can get around all my baby traps! Marshall has figured out how to push and pull things out of his way, well now isn’t he fun! The newest trick he has picked up is, throwing all his food, toys, and drink away from him and devilishly saying “uh oh…” uhhh, uh oh is right buddy.IMG_4451

I don’t know how he got into this habit, but lately he’s been eating, then taking the food out of his mouth and placing it on his shirt… then saying uh oh! It’s cute until it’s all over the floor.

Now on to the explosion! Oh man… the joys of being a parent. One morning after getting out of shower, we noticed Marshall had awaken from a nap…. to find that he exploded threw his diaper, and painted his crib, body and face with poop. TALK ABOUT GROSS! I didn’t need to see this one the smell was bad enough! Oh and the worst part is, he had corn the night before, now if you’re a parent you know, when corn goes in it also comes out the same way. Poor Marshall experimented and thought what the heck, lets eat this again… Oh my god child…. Lets just say after that lovely experience, I don’t really freak out with what he puts in his mouth anymore. Dog licked your cracker, oh well can’t be as bad as eating your own poop. Oh the joys of being a mommy.

We’ve had a lot of experiences, but I think the best one yet was his first steps. Oh boy does that ever make your heart sing!

I can’t believe my little boy is growing up so fast! Marshall is almost walking and just celebrated his first birthday! Talk about this year just flying by.
I wish there was a slow down button!

Until next time.

About the Author ()

A number of years ago I went blind, and as a result found out I had Multiple Sclerosis. After my diagnosis, I attended a new high school for the visually impaired. That is where I met the love of my life, my husband Dylan. Dylan helped me get through becoming blind and find joy in life again. Shortly after graduating, we moved to Ottawa together and in December of 2011, we were married. A year later we welcomed our beautiful son Marshall to the world. In 2015, after two miscarriages we welcomed our beautiful rainbow baby Charlotte into the world. It hasn't been easy adjusting to being blind and living with M.S on a daily basis , and being a mom of two on top of everything. Life has been... lets say challenging! But oh so worth it!
