Smiths Farms All Natural Products – Skincare That Works! Review and Giveaway ~ CAN 04/14

| March 20, 2014 | 34 Comments

It’s been a long winter and goodness knows my skin has suffered. As a lifelong victim of chronic dry skin and eczema I am tired of having to depend on topical creams loaded with chemicals just to make my skin look and feel good. I am always looking for natural skincare products to help my skin maintain moisture and avoid flaky, itchy skin.  I love when natural products come from a Canadian company and are made by a small business passionate about what they are doing, which is why I was so eager to try skin care products from Smith Farms of St. Polycarpe, Quebec.

lipbalmStarted by two sisters who grew up on a farm in Quebec, the philosophy of Smith Farms is that what goes on your body should be as safe as what goes in your body. Therefore, all Smith Farms skincare products are free of harmful chemicals and synthetics such as parabens, petroleum, SLS and phthalates, and all ingredients are derived from natural sources.

The product I was most excited to sample was Smith Farm’s Shea Butter Lip Balm. I am a self-proclaimed lip balm addict, and up until now I have had a hard time finding a lip balm derived from natural sources that felt smooth, full and smelled great. The natural lip balms I have used in the past became crumbly after a few uses or required a lot of pressure while applying to make me feel like I had any on my lips. The Shea Butter Lip Balm from Smith Farms not only smells great (which I attribute to the ingredient combination of shea butter, coconut oil and vanilla absolute), but goes on smoothly, evenly and leaves my lips feeling moisturized just as long as the chemical-filled counterpart I have been using for years.

Another natural product from Smiths Farms that I was excited to try was the Marshmallow Face Cream. Although itSmith Farms Products didn’t smell like or have the texture of marshmallows, it did smell refreshing and went on smoothly, absorbed quickly and didn’t leave my face feeling greasy. Made from marshmallow root, rice bran oil, chamomile and orange blossom waters, the face cream is sure to become a favourite day and night cream for natural skincare product users everywhere. The only downfall of this product is that it doesn’t contain any SPF, so I couldn’t wear it during the day unless I was wearing it under a foundation that offered SPF protection, however it did wear well under my makeup and always left my skin feeling soft and supple.

My favourite product from Smith Farms was the vitamin-rich hand cream. A few years ago I looked high and low for a hand cream that would not only help heal the eczema on my hands, but also prevent it. I finally found that product at a popular beauty product retailer, but their store locations are not convenient for me and the product is not as natural as I would like. I had high expectations of Smith Farms Hand Cream and after using it for one week, I have finally found a natural hand cream I love! Although a little smaller in size compared to the hand cream I had been using, the price point is competitive and I like the fact that Smith Farms hand cream is 74% organic and purchasing it means I am supporting a Canadian small business.

I will definitely be ordering more skincare products from Smiths Farms, including their hand cream! Their prices are very reasonable, especially considering the products are handcrafted and made with all natural ingredients. I am anxious to try their goat milk soap (and beer soap!) as well as their body lotion. The good news is that I received 15% off my first purchase just for subscribing to their newsletter – so, go ahead and visit and subscribe and use the discount to try out some of Smiths Farms great skincare products, your skin will thank you for it!

Disclosure: For the purposes of this review, I received the above mentioned products free of charge. All opinions are my own.
