Read and Grow with DK Canada

Summer is a great time to grow. This can happen physically or through learning, and there is a lot of time to do it for yourself or as a group. DK Canada wants readers to grow in many different ways. They asked my family if any of their books would be able to help us grow this summer. We were curious to see what was in store for us between the covers of these books.

Below are the three books my family received to read and grow this summer:

Garden growing

I have a confession to make: I have a brown thumb. I try growing plants, yet they go to the wayside after I try to care for them. The Canadian Gardener’s Guide helps gardeners of all levels by providing tips, ideas, and solutions to care for all sizes of gardens.

One thing my other half and I would like to add to our backyard is a raised garden bed. I love how the materials are simply laid out for readers to see. The instructions are easy to follow, and the illustrations make each step simple to understand. The extra tips for this project, like using brick to create a mowing edge, are great to add to your project.

Handiwork

My other half wants to build more objects for our home out of wood. I thought that Woodwork would be a great book for him to refer to for some project ideas. This title gives readers instructions form splitting a log to constructing simple pieces of furniture.

When going through this book, I felt that many of the projects in this book are not for beginners with working with wood. One item my other half would love to make is a serving platter. It was really fascinating to see how an item like this is crafted. I like the Design Guide for each project. It gives readers an idea of how to shape each object being made. I can see my other half getting a lot of enjoyment out of this title.

Improving my well-being

I am not always a fan of store-bought ways for remedies for common ailments. Sometimes, I like taking a more natural approach to my family and our health. Complete Wellness provides a complete guide to caring for your body. This is done through the restorative powers of herbs, plants, and essential oils. This title also explains how to optimize health and well-being in each part of your body.

Smoothies are a great way to feel good from the inside out. I love drinking smoothies because they provide many nutrients in a single glass and it is quick to whip up. It is great how each of the details of these smoothies lay out how their ingredients help to improve your health. Having nutritional information provided for each smoothie tells readers of what is being added to their body. All of these new options to choose from will keep me from searching for less healthier options.

Growing through learning

I am so happy we received these books from DK Canada to read and grow this summer. We can grow new plants try new plant-based projects with The Canadian Gardener’s Guide. Inspiration for projects made out of wood are at our fingertips with Woodcraft. Suggestions of natural methods to care for our bodies are close at hand with Complete Wellness. Growing as a person is what we aspire to do in our family. These books are helping us get there, one page at a time.
