My End of Summer Bucket List

| August 26, 2013 | 4 Comments

As “back tphoto 2o school” advertising campaigns become unavoidable, it’s clear that summer is already drawing to a close. I spent most of my summer lakeside, kayaking, boating, fishing, swimming, and enjoying campfires with family and friends. The past few short months have been filled with great memories including those of my daughter learning to swim unassisted and her learning to ride her bike without training wheels.

It was a monumental summer in many ways and for that reason I am going to make sure I don’t count it as over quite yet. Before school starts I want to make sure I take my daughter to the park as often as possible and to extend those evenings fishing together as long as the August sunlight will let us. I want to visit the splash pads one more time and let my dog swim off our dock at least a dozen more times. I want to lose track of time around the night time campfire with friends and dodge off to bed at otherwise ungodly hours at least one more time, and I want my daughter and her friends to catch and name at least photo 1two more toads and salamanders (each).

Moreover, before September I want my daughter to eat as many ice cream cones served from an ice cream truck as she wants and watch her swing as high as she can. And while I know fall and winter bring with them beautiful moments I will also savor, I cannot help but wish for a few more Saturday morning coffees on the deck and picnic lunches with friends.

I often say time flies and that summer is way too short, and that’s because it does and it is. My end of summer bucket list includes slowing down one more time to let my daughter roast marshmallows on a camp fire and to let her enjoy the feeling of grass between her tphoto 3oes before the air turns cool and the ground freezes.  I am going to be sure to let her have at least one more unscheduled day of unstructured play before school and activities leave us counting down the days until the May long weekend, when I can once again count my summer blessings.

What was on your summer bucket list? What are some things you wish to do or not do before fall?
