Marshall’s First Birthday!

Oh where has this past year gone!

It honestly feels like yesterday, when I was cursing my huge belly, and counting the seconds until Marshall decided to make his grand appearance. The year has gone with the blink of an eye, and now we’re here: Marshall’s first birthday!

Ok so I think I’m more excited about his birthday than he is…

Poor kid doesn’t even really understand what is even happening, but boy do I! I was honestly so excited, almost too excited. Everything had to be perfect, and I felt the need to bake Marshall’s cake. I didn’t want someone else doing it, he’s my little boy and I wanted to do something extra special for him. I worked so hard on this cake. As you can imagine with barely any usable sight… it was a  bit challenging. Now lets just say my husband came home to one mess of a kitchen, but I think the results were definitely worth it!1229980_10151576781942676_1967898735_n

We set up a party at our local Pizza Hut with the help of my hubby’s uncle, who happens to be the district manager. Everything was good to go. Family and friends were invited, birthday outfit was picked, and now we just had to count down the days. They flew by of course, and before we knew it, it was here!

Our families drove up from out-of-town, and some of them stayed with us the night before. I remember my sister Jenny was so excited to see Marshall that we woke him up late that night just to say hi. He was not impressed at first, but once he realized who was here, he was all smiles. In the morning we had a big breakfast with eggs and bacon and opened some presents. Marshall is such a spoiled little boy!

Marshall got lots of Mickey Mouse clothes, a new Mickey mouse bed set, and even large Mickey mouse wall decals! His new room in the new house is going to be so cute! Then the big present came! My husband and I got Marshall a push car for his birthday. He loved it! Sat in it all morning pushing the horn button…. kinda regretting the sound buttons now haha! (Big thanks to cousins Ericah, Alex, and Chanelle for supplying the car!)

Now it was time for the birthday party!

We arrived and so did all our guests. We had a lovely pizza and pasta lunch buffet, and then it was time for cake and more presents! I think our favourite part of the whole night was when Marshall got to smash his cake. Marshall was so tired he barely wanted to eat or even touch it. After some reassuring words and gestures, he cut loose. Here are some photos of the destruction!!!

I still can’t believe that a year has come and gone. We have so many memories, that there is not enough time to share them all. I have watched my baby boy grow up so fast. It saddens and warms my heart.

Mommy and Daddy love you little man!

About the Author ()

A number of years ago I went blind, and as a result found out I had Multiple Sclerosis. After my diagnosis, I attended a new high school for the visually impaired. That is where I met the love of my life, my husband Dylan. Dylan helped me get through becoming blind and find joy in life again. Shortly after graduating, we moved to Ottawa together and in December of 2011, we were married. A year later we welcomed our beautiful son Marshall to the world. In 2015, after two miscarriages we welcomed our beautiful rainbow baby Charlotte into the world. It hasn't been easy adjusting to being blind and living with M.S on a daily basis , and being a mom of two on top of everything. Life has been... lets say challenging! But oh so worth it!
