It’s mid winter and I’m dreaming of warm weather and sand between my toes. In reality I’m lugging the kids to playgroup and the library trying to keep my sanity during the long, cold days. On one such outing I drove past an elementary school. In front was a sign that advertised kindergarten registration. In January.

I had no idea it happened so early. If you have a child born in 2009, congratulations, they are starting junior kindergarten in September. And registration is now open.

Maybe you’re like me and choosing a school for your little one was easy. Maybe you have things to consider and a tough decision to make. Either way, now is the time to start thinking about it. Check out the school board websites and find out if your school is having an information session. We went this week and got to meet the principal, vice principal, the three JK teachers, and see the classrooms.

Picturing my little guy at school, sitting with his little friends at those little hexagon-shaped tables, put a huge smile on my face. He just started preschool and even though that was a rough transition, I know he’s going to love school. I’m going to miss him I’m sure, but I’m looking forward to this chapter in his life, and looking forward to the one-on-one time I will have with his little sister. Until she’s off to school too that is.
