Jaws, drool, and my poor nipples

My oldest, when she was first teething

My oldest, when she was first teething

My daughter is teething.  In fact… She has been ‘teething’ for months now, drooling like a mastiff and biting anything and everything she could get her gums on for 5 long months.

Maybe cause she’s my 3rd chomper jaws wannabe baby, or maybe the sudden onset of uncontrollable crying months after the colics have disappeared, the way she grabs my face with both hands and bites down HARD on my chin

like she’s trying to rip it off my face, the drool that’s smeared across my floor as she drags it across the room with her toddling legs…

Maybe – just maybe – because of all those things I knew something was up with my little peanut and mentally prepared myself for what was yet to come.

Having successfully nursed 2 babies through all stages of teething I thought I was ready.  I’ve been a human restaurant for a total of 54 months – and counting – in this lifetime; surely nothing more can hurt these poor nipples?

Alas, yesterday, she clamped the offending jaws onto my now-sore nipples and pulled – yanked, really – until she could pull no more.

And there it was – a tiny sliver of something sharp poking through her gums.  1 down… 19 more to go!

This made me laugh, but I’m sorry!! I feel your pain!! I (fortunately) have finished nursing my 2+ year old, but unfortunately she isn’t done teething yet. More than her wanting to bite on things, she just won’t sleep….I think I’ve had more sleepless nights than most moms! Haha. I hope your daughter’s teeth come quickly for your sake!
