It’s a Wrap! Wrapping Paper Goes Chic

| August 27, 2013 | 9 Comments

We’re almost finished decorating the new guest room.  It’s time to “dress” the room…my fav part. Adding texture and dimension to the room brings it all together. I have a desk that I did a makeover on last year. You can check it out here. It needed to fit into it’s new space so in comes an easy DIY.

I was in Homesense and saw this pretty wrapping paper.  It was only $3.99 and had to come home with me. I attached it to the back of the desk to add dimension to the desk and tie it in with the room.

Here is what you need:

  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape
  • Glue (I used a glue stick if you can believe it. I felt that anything else would show globs of glue through the thin paper)

What you do:

  • Measure the area that you want and cut to size. These are my mama’s hands….she helped me with the project.

  • Take your glue stick and glue all the edges and middle of the paper.  Slowly place it onto your surface area.  Using a glue stick allows you to manipulate the paper a bit to make sure you get it in the exact spot.
  • If you don’t get the right measurement the first time, you have lots of paper to do it again.

Voila! A fresh.fabulous.sophisticated easy DIY that is inexpensive and adds dimension to any space.

I ended up cutting a piece to fit inside a frame and it worked perfectly on the bathroom shelf at the cottage. Love it.

About the Author ()

Together with my hubby, we're working on renovating our 1920's house that we purchased in 2010 in a downtown neighbourhood in Ottawa, ON. The house was in need of mega love, complete with variations of bad wallpaper and peeling vinyl flooring. However, we were up to the challenge. I am the Mommy to a 5 year old, a 2 year old and baby girl who keep me on my toes. My hubby is armed with the tools and is the magic in building my crazy design ideas. In come the realities of renovating, budget, time and kids are things that many of us have to work with. I write about creating beautiful spaces that are everyday friendly, with easy DIYs which then leave room for splurges and I hope to inspire you to do the same.

I love this way of decorating because I’ve used fancy paper and sometimes I’ve used fabric if it had the colour and design I wanted. Fabrics are great for picture frames especially.
