I’m not Martha Stewart!

I was thrilled that Ottawa Mommy Club asked me to blog about my family’s experience with life and food.

Although I haven’t been cooking for very long, I really enjoy it and find it relaxing. I could do without the kitchen cleanup however!

For years, I was the butt of the joke when it came to bad cooking. I’m sure burning water, a stove fire and putting cayenne pepper on banana bread had something to do with it. But now that I’ve been at it for a few years, and with the help of very useful websites and cookbooks, I’m getting better (with the cooking, not the cleanup).

My best friend is an amazing cook and she always cooked from scratch. I was so amazed at what she did and how delicious it tasted. When I started cooking, she gave me a starter cooking book which I reference now and again, but now I mostly use the all-mighty internet.

When my oldest daughter turned 3, she was starting her princess phase and I thought it would be cool to do a princess cake. I had never made a themed cake before, so why not try a really complicated cake for my first time. Miraculously, it somehow turned out amazing!

But just so you don’t think I’m this amazing cook, here’s the Superbowl cake I made 7 months later. Needless to say it didn’t turn out like the idea in my head. Isn’t there a website for failed Pinterest DIYs?

Not pretty, just tasty!

So follow me in this food world as I maneuver between recipes and life’s great moments!

I can’t cook either. I can however bake and I choose to do that over cooking.

Now, I just need someone to clean up after me. I hate the clean up. 🙁

Looking forward to reading more from you.

I think I’m a fairly decent cook but I know I’d fail at theme cakes like that, they would never look right, love the princess cake!
