Hello! Nice To Meet You!

| April 29, 2013 | 5 Comments

Welcome to my first post as an Ottawa Mommy Blogger! I am honoured to be part of such a great group! Just look at that list.  It’s chalk full of amazing people. Some of whom I know, some I don’t – yet!

I am excited to be able to share with you some of the stories that are constantly rolling around in my head! What can you expect to read in my blogs? Just about anything and everything.  Whatever is inspiring me at the moment.  Since one of my biggest passions is saving money, couponing and contesting, you’ll definitely read a great deal about those topics.  These days, I’m also full of stories about kids and dogs, since I’ve got both and they provide me with a never-ending stream of ideas and funny happenings. I’m sure you can relate!
Since I’m new here, I figure I should start by telling you a little bit about myself.  Not the normal, boring, everyday stuff. Something different.  Things that even my life-long friends may not know.
1.  I’m the same person in “real life” that you see online.  I’m a positive, friendly, compassionate and enthusiastic person, with a great sense of humour (I laugh a lot!).
2.  I’m a lover of all pets – especially unusual ones.  I’ve owned rats, mice, a chinchilla, a hedgehog, gerbils, fish, a turtle, and of course, dogs.  One day I’d love to own a chameleon.
3.  I’ve been an avid contester for 6 years.  I have won many great prizes.  My biggest win? An all-inclusive trip to the Dominican Republic.
4.  My mother tells me that I spent my early childhood eating nothing but baloney, raw carrots and drinking milk.  At least I had 3 of the 4 food groups covered! Now? I’ll eat just about anything! I love food!
5.  As a teenager in the 80’s, I once had the back of my head shaved, dyed blond and coloured with red and black X’s and O’s for a fashion show at my local mall.  My mother was in the audience…watching…and having a stroke when she saw what they were doing to my hair.
6.  My first car (in the 1990’s) was given to me by my Aunt – a 1970’s Ford Maverick.  It was bright orange!  Stupid me.  I sold it for next nothing a few years later so I could buy a new Plymouth Sundance.
7.  I’ve gone parasailing, held a tarantula in my hands (at Little Ray’s), and walked on a see-through walkway over the Grand Canyon.  All about facing my fears.
8.  I have a pin-back button collection of over 1,000 buttons.  I’ve been collecting them since I was 12 years old.
9.  I won tickets to see Def Leppard in concert from a radio station when I was 16.  I didn’t know who they were (ack!) so I sold the tickets to someone for $20. Again, stupid me!
10.  I used to stalk musicians when I was a teenager, lol. I was obsessed with music – and still am. I just don’t tend to stalk musicians anymore. I’ve met Billy Idol, Adam from U2, Men Without Hats, Belinda Carlisle, Blue Rodeo, 54-40 and many more.
So now you know me just a little better.  What about you? I’d love to know a little about you, the Ottawa Mommy Club reader.  Share one funny, crazy, different thing about yourself! I dare you!

    Hi Sandy,
It is always great to read interesting blogs about things that I am interested in. I also love getting great deals etc. I really love the idea of winning contests and such. My question to you is, how do you know if the contest is real or a scam? A lot of things seem to be too good to be true, so I won’t even bother entering.

    Hi Amanda!

Thanks for commenting! What a great question! Well, you can’t always be 100% sure but, if you stick to sites like mine or any other well-known contesting site, you should not have to worry about any scams. Contests that get posted by members on sites like mine are legitimate. Those that post these contests are usually long-time, contest savvy “contesters” who make a hobby out of entering contests. They know what to look for when it comes to the difference between a legit contest and a scam. Be sure to read the comments in any given contest post. If something appears to be a scam, you can be sure someone has already commented to that affect and you can then avoid entering. NEVER enter those “pop up” iPAD contest offers or anything that pops up and says you have already won something. As the old saying goes, you can’t win if you don’t enter. Good luck Amanda!
