Go On An Adventure Anytime With Peekapak! #Review #Giveaway #HolidayGiftGuide ~ CAN 12/14

| November 20, 2014 | 24 Comments

I am not a fan of those cold, blustery days that come with autumn. The sky is grey, there may be drizzle, rain, or dare I say, snow falling. The worst part about days like these is that it keeps my younger children from being outside and having adventures. On days like these, I have to be creative to keep my little ones from getting bored. This is why I am glad that I had the chance to review Peekapak, a subscription box geared towards kids aged 4-8 that brings a new adventure for the whole family to jump have fun together.

Peekapak is a Canadian company that creates adventures through creative storytelling adventure and craft pack for children and their parents to go on without leaving their home. Cody, Menka and their hedgehog friend, Leo are the Peekapak Pals and are the guides in each of these play-based learning adventures which were designed by education experts!

My family was lucky enough to have received two different Paks to play with. When they arrived, my kids were so excited to open each of the Paks to see what was inside. We were really surprised by the contents of each Pak! It had just about everything we would need in order to have fun for a few hours. The only thing that was not included in our Paks was our imaginations.

In the first Pak, the Peekapak Pals took us on a journey where shapes helped us put different puzzles together and took us on a parachute ride that was a lot of fun! In the story The Peekapak Pals and the Mystery Shapes, my kids got a kick out of trying to put the tangram puzzles. They liked pointing out each of the shapes to us, and they liked the animals they had put together. For us, our favourite part of this Pak had to be creating and then taking our parachute out for a “ride.” Our kids took this parachute up and around our home over and over again, loving every time they say it float down to the ground. My daughter also loved helping to build and play with the kaleidoscope. She loved twirling it around in her hand to watch the colours tumble in front of her eyes.

For our other Peekapak adventure, we were whisked off to Paris! We met the Peekapak’s friend, Inès, and we shrunk down to help some of the critters in live in Inès’ backyard with the use of her magical hat. This Pak, I will say, was much more hands-on then the first Pak we played with. In The Peekapak Pals and The Magical Hat, we helped to shelter and feed a caterpillar, put together a bridge to help a group of ants get back to their anthill, and helped a hive of bees with their sticky honey badger situation. The bridge took a bit of work to build, but my children had a blast helping the ants get back home. They also loved building their new garden and beehive. I was surprised that we were given actual beeswax to work with! It was fun to cut mold into the beehive.

My family really enjoyed going on adventures with the help of Peekapak! My children loved hearing us read the stories to them, then using what is inside our Paks to envision what we were reading to them. The instructions for building everything in our Paks were really easy to follow, and I like that you can reuse or recycle just about all of these items, too! We have gone on a few of these adventures again and again because my kids liked the stories and helping the Peekapak Pals to accomplish their journeys. This subscription pack is perfect for a birthday or Christmas gift for child to have once or to receive as a fun activity more than once, so they will have a new adventure to look forward to receiving. I hope that you and your family will have as amazing time as we did learning and traveling with Peekapak.

About the Author ()

My name is Lian Wright. Born in Toronto, I came to Ottawa as a student to study Political Science at Carleton University, and came away with an Honours Degree, and decided to stay. I'm a huge sports fan, have a love of reading, and like experiencing new things whenever I can. I am now a mother of three children (11, 1 and 7 months old) and am kept constantly on my toes. My blog, Pieces of Me, is my way of sharing what I have enjoyed and encountered in my life so far as a mother. So far, being a mom has had it's expected ups and downs, but that's what makes being a parent so fulfilling for me. I've loved and learned from what's happened so far, and I can't wait to see what's in store for me next. I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
