Getting Off to a Good Start with baby enRoute! #Review #Giveaway ~ Ottawa Area 01/05

| December 15, 2014 | 25 Comments

You would think that buying toys for children at Christmas is a simple task. Well, it is a lot harder than you may think. When my other half and I want to get our kids toys for Christmas, we want for them to have items that they will be entertained by and learn from. We also want toys that us big kids can also have a bit of fun with, too. That is why we were happy to have the chance to review some of the many toys and children’s accessories from baby enRoute!

baby enRoute is Ottawa’s one-stop shop for parents with little ones who are eager to learn. They are located in Westboro in Ottawa’s wet-end, and are filled with so many fun and exciting toys, clothing and accessories for young children to choose from.

The first item my family reviewed was the Pacific Baby© 3-in-One Stainless Steel Baby Bottle Swirl 7 oz. This product is geared towards children ages Newborn – 5 years-old.

Bottle 1 Collage

This bottle is great for parents who are on the go. Here are some of its great features:

• Keeps contents warm or cold for up to 10 hours
• Geared for children between newborn to 5 years-old
• Converts easily from a baby bottle to a sip cup and drink bottle
• Safe to use in the steamer and the top rack of the dish washer
• Free from BPA, PVC and Phthalates
• Resists bacteria
• Environmentally friendly

I really love having drinking containers that I can take on-the-go with my younger children, so I put it to the test while I was running errands. After removing the replacing the silicone teat, the bottle ring and the stainless steel cap for the Pacific Baby Straw Top Drink Top, I filled it with my daughter’s favourite drink and headed out with my little ones for a day of running around to get things for our home and for Christmas.

When we sat down to grab a bite to eat, I pulled out the thermal bottle and tested the drink inside. I found that the bottle had shifted from its up-right position, lying on its side in my child’s back pack. Luckily, the ring inside the cap forming the vacuum seal kept the drink from leaking all over the items I brought along for my kids. I then tested the drink inside the thermal cup and it was still cold! So I then passed it to my daughter so she could have something to drink. She loved being able to push the cover that protected the bendable straw without much of a fuss, and she liked drinking from the straw itself. My son also enjoyed drinking from this cup. He also liked the softness of the drinking straw. They both also loved the swirly design on the bottle and that it was easy for them to grasp and hold.

The second item we reviewed was the Kid O™ Cursive Lower Case Magnatab. This item is geared towards children ages 6+.The magnetic stylus and the directional arrows help young writers to form letters in cursive writing. I had my eldest, who barely uses cursive, give it a go first. She thought that Magnatab was a lot of fun, and she was having fun remembering how to write in cursive. She then helped my younger daughter, who is going to start school next year, teaching her how to use the Magnatab and form letters with the magnetic stylus. My younger daughter enjoyed trying to follow her older sister’s direction and try to form letters from what the Magnatab and her sister was teaching her. Even my youngest child, who is not able to write at this time, enjoyed using the Magnatab! He quickly caught on to how the stylus works and how to get the bearings to pop out of the holes. All three of my children really like using this item!

The last product my family tested from baby enRoute was the Tegu Magnetron Magnetic Wooden Blocks Set. This product is geared towards children age 1-99 (Yes, it is for the big kids like myself, too!). This set is able to be used with other Tegu Magnetic Wooden Blocks, and can be made into many different shapes and objects. My kids had waited patiently (that was an understatement) to review this product as they all love building block sets. I handed my other half the box, and he and the kids all jumped in and started building. They had to build the robot first, and they liked how big he was and how easy he was to build. They then tried building other objects and putting other shapes and blocks together. They also had fun doing “magic” as they were using some of the blocks to push other blocks around our dining table without touching them! They had a blast playing with the Tegu Magnetron Magnetic Wooden Blocks Set. The one issue we had with it was that some of the objects we built, like the car, would not stay together if you tried to play with them. They did stay together when built and would make great model toys, but not to play with. That being said, everyone still enjoys using, playing and taking turns building objects with these magnetic blocks!

Overall, my family enjoyed all of the items we received to review from baby EnRoute! They challenged my children to learn how to do things while having fun. They are also helping my family to come together and to teach my younger children how to share, which I think is a very important skill to learn at their age and is helping them get off to a great start for when they eventually begin attending school. Any one of these items would make a great gift for a child this Christmas!

My name is Lian Wright. Born in Toronto, I came to Ottawa as a student to study Political Science at Carleton University, and came away with an Honours Degree, and decided to stay. I'm a huge sports fan, have a love of reading, and like experiencing new things whenever I can. I am now a mother of three children (11, 1 and 7 months old) and am kept constantly on my toes. My blog, Pieces of Me, is my way of sharing what I have enjoyed and encountered in my life so far as a mother. So far, being a mom has had it's expected ups and downs, but that's what makes being a parent so fulfilling for me. I've loved and learned from what's happened so far, and I can't wait to see what's in store for me next. I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
