Getting In Shape With GoodLife Fitness and Jillian Michaels BODYSHRED™

As a mom of three children, two of them being under the age of three, I know how important it is to take care of myself. My kids depend on me, and expect me to keep up with all of their activities all day long, and for me, one way to do this way to this is to start a fitness routine.  I also want to become more fit because I used to be in better shape, and I want to tone the muscles I have.

One of the fitness routines I tried in the past was one I had found online. I could workout at home while my younger children were taking a nap for almost an hour.  It was a high-intensity workout geared to help me loose the weight that decided to stay after my youngest was born.

At first, it was working well. After a while, though, I lost my motivation to continue following the program. One of my children would wake up from their nap, or other disruptions would take me away from my personal workout time.

As one of my New Year’s resolutions, I felt I really needed to continue what I started and get myself into better shape.  Since I did not want to stop my routine as soon as I started it again, I decided to take a different approach and take a high-intensity workout class where there are other women like myself wanting to become more fit.  I then made some schedule shuffling with my boyfriend/partner so I could take a class.

After doing some searching for a class to take, I thought I should try metabolic training.  What’s metabolic training, you ask? Metabolic training is a type of exercise that boosts cardiovascular fitness while helping to gain strength and muscle endurance.  It is designed to get your heart rate up while helping you to build lean body mass. Metabolic training uses resistance exercise with weights for a set amount of time, followed by a short recovery period (no longer than a minute), then you go on to the next strength training exercise.   Metabolic training is great for people who have busy schedules but still want to loose weight in a short amount of time.

Metabolic training sounds like other cardiovascular workouts available, so why would I choose this type of workout? Well, with metabolic training, it is designed to burn calories and fat at a higher rate during and after the workout is finished.  It also helps to cut down on going into a routine rut. This is because you are quickly moving from exercise to exercise with a short rest period in between.

While looking for a workout facility that offers a metabolic training class, I discovered Jillian Michaels BODYSHRED™ which is a metabolic fitness class being offered exclusively at GoodLife Fitness that will be available across Canada.  It is a fun 30-minute high-intensity interval/circuit workout that will help me achieve my goal of becoming more fit and tone during shorter workout periods.     I have been reading about this work out for a while and I see amazing results in my friend. She is so dedicated! I admire that greatly. Motivation is a big problem here but I am working on it. The Ottawa class lead by Jillian is super neat!
