Get Outside and Get to Know Animals with DK Canada Publishers and Giveaway~ CAN 05/18

Earthly BoutiqueIf someone were to ask me what two activities my daughter loves the most, I would say with certainty that she loves learning about animals and loves crafts. These activities would be followed up closely by being outdoors, which is why I jumped at the chance to review two books by DK Publishers, one entitled the Smithsonian Animal Book: A Visual Encyclopedia of Life on Earth and the other entitled, Outdoor Crafts.

The Smithsonian Animal Book is one my daughter refers to over and over again, especially while watching her favourite television show, the Wild Kratts. As soon as she hears what animal the Kratt bothers will be exploring, she opens the book looking for more information on it. The Smithsonian Animal Book offers straightforward explanations of more than 1500 specimens, each accompanied by vivid photographs. Whether it is bacteria, an insect, fish or animal, each specimen in this book is displayed on in-depth spreads, with interesting facts and other related animals. The Smithsonian Animal Book is a great book for animal-loving children and would also make a great go-to resource for older kids’ homework assignments. I guarantee the adults in the household will learn something too – there are a lot more species of porcupine out there than I knew about! The Animal Book

There are also a lot more crafts and activities that can be completed outdoors than I realized. DK Publisher’s book, Outdoor Crafts has pages and pages of fun things that can be done outside. The book is broken down into what kind of activity it is: Make It, Cook It, Drink It, and Create It. The Outdoor CraftsMake It section has ideas for decorating plant pots, jazzing up your garden, instructions on how to make a seed box organizer and more. The Cook It section outlines how to cook herb and cheese muffins (with herbs you grow yourself, of course) and how to colourful and edible kebabs. The Drink It section has a great recipe for herbal sun tea and the Create It section has a fun activity to make a fairy ring by painting lanterns and planting certain plants (an idea I might just use at my daughter’s outdoor birthday party this summer). Each creation has easy-to-follow instructions and colourful pictures. My only wish for this book was that was longer!

If your child is like mine and loves animals and the outdoors then you should take a look at DK Publisher’s “Earthly Boutique.” There are books available for junior and not-so-junior nature lovers, animal lovers and gardeners alike! And just in time to celebrate Earth Day, order now and receive 30% off your order! This is a limited time offer and a great reason to check out some educational and fun books that you won’t find anywhere else.

Disclosure: I received the above mentioned books for review. All opinions are honest and my own.
