Get a Fresh Start to 2015 with DK Books #Review and #Giveaway~ CAN 02/23

| February 5, 2015 | 42 Comments

Many people make resolutions to make a fresh start by trying to improve on an aspect of their body. It may be becoming fit, eating better or trying something new. So not make resolutions, but I do like trying new things in order to improve myself. When I was asked to review two books from DK’s Start Fresh Boutique, I was really happy that I would get to do and make things to help accomplish my goals by getting to read these books and learning to improve on myself. I was able to chose 2 books form this boutique, and I chose Natural Beauty: Natural make-up, Soothing therapies, Homemade preparations and Mediterranean Cooking: Fast, fresh and easy recipes.

I decided to start my fresh start on the outside of my body first, so I turned to the book Natural Beauty: Natural make-up, Soothing therapies, Homemade preparations. This book is full of so many ways to help heal and improve your body from head-to-toe using natural products you can make at home. The photos were simple yet beautiful, and there was a lot of detail given for what the book wanted to share with its readers so they would understand what they were doing and the benefits of each treatment, plant or mineral being used in these products.

I really loved the “What’s In That Bottle” section of this book. My particular favourite pages were “The Science of the Label” pages where it has a chart for readers showing different chemicals that are traditionally found in beauty products, why they are put into beauty products, and how it does to your health. I also loved “The Kit You Need” pages that provide readers with the basic tools they would need to make beauty products at home. There are also photos of each of these items so readers will know what they are to look for if they are going to purchase these items.

After looking through the book, wanting to try to make so many of these products for myself, I decided to keep it simple and make something with ingredients that just about everyone has in their homes. I chose to try the Reviving Tomato Mask to test on myself. There are only three ingredients, and the steps to replicate this mask were simple to follow. I also liked how this book tells you why tomatoes are great to use on your face and how they are great for your body, too. After I used this mask, my face felt smoother, and I was touching my face all day, feeling how nice my face felt after using this treatment.

Now that I have begun to take care of the outside of my body, my insides (mainly my stomach) were ready for some pampering, too! This is when I cracked open Mediterranean Cooking: Fast, fresh and easy recipes.

DKKFoodProduct-A

There were so many photos that were, as to what I have become accustom to expect of books published by DK, gorgeous. After a lot of flip-flopping, I chose to make Peperonata from Italy. I went with this choice because this meal is a great compromise between what everyone eats in our home, and the ingredients were not difficult to find at our grocery store. There were only two directions for this recipe which made this recipe really easy to prepare and follow.

I really liked how this book also gives suggestions as to how certain dishes can be used in a meal.

DKFoodHowToServe-A

I used it as a sauce for pasta with capellini noodles and I added hot Italian sausages to the dishes of those in my household that eat meat. We then topped of our dishes with some freshly grated Parmesan cheese. I loved it and my other half said that it was a great dish. He liked that it was a simple dish, but it was so delicious! He cannot wait for us to have Peperonata for dinner again!

Once again, DK has published some amazing books for readers to read, to learn from and to explore. The Fresh Start Boutique DK has to offer a reader is brilliant, and the books I reviewed were fantastic! I am so glad to have these two books in my personal library. I will be using them over and over again because they are so informative and there are plenty of recipes and treatments I want to try to improve myself, both inside and out!
