Express Yourself this Christmas with a Caricature from (A Review & Giveaway!)

| November 3, 2014 | 27 Comments

I have always wanted a caricature done of myself. Every time I travel I catch myself stopping in front of a street vendor who is in the middle of drawing a caricature and I am in awe of how accurate yet humoristic the picture looks. I could hardly wait to have one done of myself and my family by and was even more excited when I was told it would be a holiday-themed caricature – a unique and fun picture for this year’s Christmas card!

I sent the artist three pictures of my husband and myself and then three additional pictures of my daughter. Within a week I received a black and white image of us as a family. Admittedly, I didn’t immediately see much resemblance between my family and the drawing. I have heard that caricature artists sometimes have a template they use and then just make minor adjustments based on one’s individual characteristics, but then I thought about what the picture would look like in colour – the hair styles were right, the eye sizes and smiles were bang on, what was missing was my daughter’s strawberry blonde hair, my reddish-brown hair and my husband’s hazel eyes.

What do you think? Here are the three photos I sent them of my husband and I:

And here is the caricature by

If I put those colours into the caricature I think it would resemble my family a lot more. Why I didn’t request a colour caricature is beyond me and is definitely not a mistake I would make again. Make no mistake though; has some great black and white caricatures in their portfolio. I think the difference between the drawing I had done and the incredible pictures in their portfolio is that I threw my daughter in the mix after I sent them the photos of my husband and myself; and my daughter is in the midst of losing her baby teeth and has a different wild-child hair style in every picture I sent them. Also, my caricature is holiday-themed, which, I feel would be better represented in colour.
