Explore Stories from Here and Beyond with DK Canada!

Stories. They can be about anything, and can take us anywhere. Tales, no matter when and where they are from, fascinate us and have the power to connect us. My family loves learning about all sorts of stories that are rooted in different histories of our world. DK Canada knows about the power and amusement stories can bring to readers. They asked if we would like to explore stories from here and beyond by choosing three books to enjoy.

Below are the three books we received:

Connecting people through myths

Mythology. It was a way of explaining why the world works as it does and brought communities together. Pieces of it still inspire us today in film, television and books. Are you curious to know where all of these ideas are rooted from? The Mythology Book can help you get a start! It contains eighty of our world’s more popular myths and characters. These stories are shared and explained with text and bold graphics that will resonate with readers and help them learn more about this topic.

Learning about different stories from parts of the world I have not yet studied is a great way to jump these mythologies. I like that this book is broken down into different areas of the world to search and learn from. The flow charts help readers learn more about the who, the where and the function of the deities from each mythology. This book also shows readers just how connected we are as people with the similarities in mythology.

A story of a beloved scoundrel from far, far away…

Some may see the Star Wars™ as a mythology. This universe shares so many similarities with some of the myths that exist. One area of mythology that is fun to learn about is the back stories behind the great characters of these stories. Have you seen Solo: A Star Wars Story™  in theatres yet? Whether you have seen this movie or are curious to find out more it, Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide  gives readers a look into the lives and places behind this beloved scoundrel’s story.

My family has not had the chance to see this film yet, but is great to have this guide on hand to learn more about the more intricate parts of this unlikely hero’s story. There was so much to learn about in this book. We enjoyed finding out about the worlds they visit, the characters in this film, and the little parts of this world. An interesting fact I learned was about Han’s lucky dice. They caught my eye because they looked like the ones that appeared in another Star Wars™ film. I didn’t understand what they were and why they were important until I found them in this guide.

Travel by air, land, sea and space?

X-Wings? Y-Wings? One area of the Star Wars™ world that has always eluded me is the vast amount of iconic vehicles that make this universe so fascinating. They have histories all their own that fans of this series love. Star Wars™  Encyclopedia of Starfighters and Other Vehicles is great to have on hand to help me and my kids more about this aspect of the this series.

This book makes it easy for us to jump into the type of vehicle we want to explore based on the terrain it is purposed for. The Data Files on each vehicle was informative, allowing us to learn about its function, where it is built, how fast it travels and other specifications it had to its users. There are also fun tidbits shared about each vehicle that help readers feel more acquainted with them. We love having this book on hand to find out more about all of the vehicles we see when we watch these films again and again.

Lots of love for storytelling

My family loved delving into learning through stories from here and beyond with books from DK Canada. Finding out about how the histories of different countries differ but are similar helped us see how connected we are in this world. Getting a sneak peek at Hans Solo’s begins was fun for my family to jump into before seeing the film. Widening our knowledge of vehicles in the Star Wars™ universe by learning their stories makes each of the films we watched in this series more fun to enjoy. Each of these books allow us to explore fun worlds whenever we want and are amazing additions to our home library.

My name is Lian Wright. Born in Toronto, I came to Ottawa as a student to study Political Science at Carleton University, and came away with an Honours Degree, and decided to stay. I'm a huge sports fan, have a love of reading, and like experiencing new things whenever I can. I am now a mother of three children (11, 1 and 7 months old) and am kept constantly on my toes. My blog, Pieces of Me, is my way of sharing what I have enjoyed and encountered in my life so far as a mother. So far, being a mom has had it's expected ups and downs, but that's what makes being a parent so fulfilling for me. I've loved and learned from what's happened so far, and I can't wait to see what's in store for me next. I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
