End of School Year Teachers’ Gifts

| June 24, 2013 | 9 Comments

Time flies, I cannot believe it is almost officially summer.  This also means that the end of the school year is just around the corner.

I give my sons’ teachers gifts twice a year – once around the holidays in December and once at the end of the school year.

Around the holidays I usually look for a keepsake plate or container and fill it up with home-baked goodies such as truffles, cookies, brownies and bars.  Scarves are wonderful and so versatile. If I am not organized enough to bake,  I buy pretty scarves  for the teachers.

At the end of the school year I always buy a Chapters/Indigo gift card for every teacher.

I have heard from past teachers about how much they appreciate and enjoy this gift card. There is so much variety in the store – home decor, accessories, coffee, tea, chocolates, books, magazines, stationery, kids’ stuff etc. –  truly something for everyone. Especially if you don’t know the  teachers’ tastes too well this ends up working out well.

How about you? Do you have a gift giving tradition to show your kids’ teachers appreciation or do you mix it up each year? Do you give each teacher the same gift?

I have been really struggling with gifts this year. I have 6 teachers to buy for and that can really add up!! I am going with handmade, cold pressed, locally made soaps.

I hear you Brenda. I had 6 teachers to buy for as well and I like to keep the gifts the same whether it is the main teacher or an assistant. And yes it adds up really fast. Handmade, cold pressed, local (love local) soaps sound fabulous. I am sure they will be really appreciated (and so different from other gifts).

We were fortunate in Germany as gifts were never expected, nor given. Can you imagine the total cost for 7 children, staggering no doubt.

We are making homemade gifts for the teachers this weekend

what is a suitable amount to give to each teachers btw. Last Christmas, one parent took the role in collecting 20$ from each parents to give to the teachers. so it adds up. My son is in JK so i’m really curious. Much appreciated.

I also give the teacher gifts twice a year. We usually contribute to a group gift card such as a mall so there are a lot of options to use. My child makes a homemade card or gift and sometimes adds smaller gifts that she thinks the teacher will specifically appreciate based on the likes and personality. We love teachers!
