DK Canada: Star Wars Books Readers Review and Giveaway ~ CAN 10/20

DK Canada

The world of Star Wars is becoming more popular to a wider group of people.  DK Readers has a large series of books for young readers to jump into this genre with their parents and follow the characters from this world on their adventures.  The Star Wars saga was a big part of my childhood, so I was so excited to have the chance to review books based on this world that my kids would enjoy!

From the many titles DK Readers currently has available in the Star Wars series, I chose four that I thought would help children start their Star Wars journey from the beginning, so they can have a basic knowledge of the series, and then they can choose which path, Jedi or Sith, they would like to continue on.  The titles of the four books I chose were: Star Wars: Blast Off! (Pre-Level 1), Star Wars: Luke Skywalker’s Amazing Journey (Level 1), Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Who Are The Jedi?, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars – What is a Sith Warrior?

In Star Wars: Blast Off!, readers are introduced to the Star Wars genre through meeting many of its main characters.  Each character is generously given two pages, so readers get a feel for who these characters are, what they look like, and certain key aspects of their appearance, so children can remember who they are.  For a younger reader who has no experience in the Star Wars genre, this book is a great starting point into their Star Wars education.

OMC DK Readers - Star Wars Books R2-D2

Star Wars: Luke Skywalker’s Amazing Journey is, I think the most important book in the whole DK Readers Star Wars series.  It’s a general look at this genre’s hero, Luke Skywalker.  It begins with his humble beginnings with his aunt and uncle to him saving the galaxy from Darth Vader (I know, it’s actually the Empire, but they didn’t mention it in the book).  As in Star Wars: Blast Off! it was a very general look into Luke Skywalker’s story, and the characters that help to shape his destiny.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Who Are The Jedi? is a more in-dept look at the aracJedi are, the start of the Clone Wars, the importance of the Force, and the problems the Dark Side presents to their order.  Because this book is geared toward older readers, it was more informative, and a bit more graphic, but it really allowed readers to get inside the world of the Jedi.

OMC DK Readers - Star Wars Books Yoda

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars – What is a Sith Warrior?, takes older readers into the sinister world of the Sith.  It covers, topics such as the Clone Wars, what a Sith Warrior is, their mission to take over the galaxy, their dislike for their greatest enemy, the Jedi, and, of course, the dark side of the Force.  As in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Who Are The Jedi?, this book was more detailed, giving readers more information into the world of a Sith warrior.

What I liked about this series of books for DK Readers is that it allows readers to learn about the Star Wars saga from just about every angle: various characters, their individual adventures, vehicles used by both sides of the war, blueprints of vehicles, the droids, other characters that help both the Rebels and the Empire, and the list goes on and on!  What I liked about the books I chose to review was that it really did help readers get an idea of what the whole Star Wars saga is all about.  The art directors of this series used stills from the movies and the cartoon series of Star Wars:The Clone Wars to illustrate each book, bringing the information they wanted to share with readers more to life, making the stories easier to get in to.  The glossaries also made it easy for readers new to this genre to understand certain terms and phrases used in Star Wars.

My girls loved reading these books.  My younger enjoyed the early level books because it was easy to read, and it kept her attention, which is a feat i itself nowadays!  Her favourite part were the pictures of the characters.  My eldest daughter, who is more familiar with the World of Star Wars, loved the books targeted at older children because she was able to learn more about what she had seen in the movies and the cartoon series.  Her favourite part was learning more about Yoda and the lightsabers the Jedi use.

So, if you are a Star Wars fan like I am ad you want to introduce your kids to this series, or your kids are into this saga, the selection of Star Wars books from DK Readers are the way to go!  They get your kids, or even parents not familiar with this series, a great jump start into what Star Wars is all about.

Which side of the Force will you and your family choose?

I do like Star Wars but it’s my son (36yrs old!) who’s a huge fan and I do mean huge. At the moment he’s trying to convince his children (5 & 3) to be Star Wars figures for Halloween and I’m sure it’s because he wants to dress up.

I’m a huge fan of the series! I love films 4-6 (the original three), and films 1-3 are growing on me.

Yeah, I would dress up for Halloween as a character from the Star Wars saga if I could, too. I’d probably be R2-D2 or Yoda because they’d be fun costumes to wear.

I think this series is a good one to be a fan of because there are so many areas you can look into and learn about…and the story is timeless, even though it takes place in a galaxy far, far away! ;P
