What is it about Disney that makes you feel like you magically returned to your childhood?

I’m not sure if any of you remember when there used to be a Disney store at Rideau Centre back in the 90’s.  I was a teenager at the time, but that did not stop me from venturing into that store with my friends.  Unfortunately, it closed down and my inner child was devastated. Where did the magic go?

When OMC asked me to attend the Ottawa Disney Store’s grand opening at the Rideau Centre, I jumped with glee and counted the days until the big event. The magic had come back!

I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t love Disney, which explains why there were over 700 people in line waiting to get a taste of this wonderful experience. Some had been there since 6am! Talk about your ultimate Disney fans!

As I walked alongside the lineup of these adoring enthusiasts, I could feel the excitement buzzing in the air. The first 500 guests received a pair of Mickey Mouse ears which can only be found at the Disney Theme Park. Other than the mouse ears, there were Goofy hats, princess dresses and tiaras, and smiles on all of the faces I encountered.

As I made my way to the store’s entrance, I was warmly greeted by the staff and was invited to take several pictures inside before the grand opening. Once I stepped inside, I could not stop giggling while exploring all the amazing elements, including a blue Pixie Dust Trail, Magical Trees, a Disney Store Theater and Storytelling Neighborhoods featuring Disney, Marvel and Star Wars product statements.

There were also design elements exclusive to Ottawa, such as a customized skyline incorporating local landmarks – including the historic Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Rideau Canal and The Supreme Court of Canada.

We were entertained by Mickey and Minnie who danced and greeted families and one lucky child was chosen to “unlock imagination” and officially open the Disney Store. Apparently, this tradition will continue after grand opening day, as the store will “unlock imagination” every morning, giving guests an opportunity to participate in a special and unforgettable Disney Store experience.

I invite you to step into this enchanted place and check out all the great products, such as sleepwear, costumes, school supplies, toys, Tsum, Tsums, books and so much more!
